Problem: Music player lags a bit - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on 4.0.4.. Stock ROM.. matr1x kernel..
The music player lags while the song is playing if I start something else like Whatsapp or browser..
As in the song literally lags..
I've tried oc'ing it to 1.4ghz..
And have plenty of free memory..
But still it lags..
Can someone please help..
Do I need to change the kernel? if so which one is good?

i have no issues with this kernel, but if u have a nexus s and not a 4g i will advise you to not oc to 1.4, stay at 1.3/1.2 . cuz nexus s processor are diferent...
but if u think it is the kernel, flash another one, but that one should work perfect

I Jus oc'ed it to see if it's a problem with the processor.. I don't oc it beyond 1.2..
I'm on the matr1x v20 cfs..
the further versions gimme freezes and bootloops..
Can you suggest any other stable kernel?
Trinity?

Try raising voltages back to stock. Some phones can UV without rebooting but become far less efficient and unstable. Matr1x is undervolted by default.
Edit: See here for stock voltages.

It definitely worked..
First I changed the voltages.. No lag.. Then..
Realized that the trinity kernel has the default values.. And its working fine.
guess it was the voltages..
Thanks..

If you want to use matr1x. Try downloading voodoo sound.

[Kernel][KG2]Bali Tweaks + OC! 1.28Ghz

I added kernel tweaks from raspdeep's I9000 OC and got our bali kernel to OC, I'm running at 1.2 Ghz right now. I haven't tested this in terms of battery life, but there's a good chance your battery life may be less. So use with caution.
This 1.2 Ghz OC feels smoother and faster than stock, and better and more stable than 1.28Ghz. If you tried the 1.28 and gave up, try this 1.2, it's much better. I removed the link to the 1.28Ghz kernel because it was causing too many problems for everyone, and actually being slower due to freezing and overheating.
Battery life and stability not guaranteed
Use setcpu to control your cpu speed.
Credits to Dr. Honk for bali original, and raspdeep for OC source.
THIS IS FOR KG2 ONLY!
I have flashed this both on stock and on a custom KG2 rom, they both worked.
link removed because it was unstable - 1.28Ghz
Updated 1.2 KERNEL: http://www.multiupload.com/3QPMQY476F

I provide no guarantees that this will work, make a backup before you try this!
This was really only made for all the kids who kept asking for an OC kernel.
It has been suggested that the 1.2Ghz kernel may be more stable, so I would suggest trying that one instead of the 1.28Ghz kernel
Flashing right now . You beat me too it ;p

Flash through CWM as usual, I've tested flashing it and it worked fine for me, so it should work for you.

I'll try adding in UV mods later, but I have to go home from work for now.
Remember once you add UV to check the voltage . Just a reminder & The kernel flash's but it auto-reboot's & then stay's stuck on SK4G splash screen .

Well it works on mine, so it's not broken entirely, so something has to be different here. pulling the link until its more tested.
Now that I think about it, the issue might have been that you were all on rfs, rather than ext4
if you can get back to CWM you can just flash the old kernel
Ok reflashed old kernel. All is well.

Why does my Phone reboot during a call?

I am trying to find out why my phone is doing this? Could it be a rom or kernel issue? I am running asop+ 2.2 rom and glados 2.7. Or could it be a radio issue?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Glados has a problem with rebooting while calling
It's a known issue in GLaDOS thread. However, some users get a lot of reboots, some never get one.
If you want a quick fix then try flashing another kernel.
Thanks any suggestions on kernals? I have had nothing but issues with matr1x and now it seems glados is giving me issues.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Known issues with GLaDOS. If you want to stay with GLaDOS, you can try:
-Up the voltage a bit if you are using liveoc (or disable liveoc)
-Don't overclock at all
-Disable deep idle
Or you could try matr1x again and maybe up the voltage 25mV across the board (except for 100 and 200mhz) as it is underclocked by default which your phone may not like. Otherwise i'd be trying netarchy, eugene's icup or francos kernel.

I'd suggest you start with Eugene's kernel (ICUP) because I have used it for a week without a single reboot
Disable deep idle, fixes most problems.
99 problems but a deep idle ain't one.
I switched to icup and it seems to be doing good. Thanks guys. I never had deep idle enabled so that was not my issue

I'd try to upgrade to ICS or reinstall the ROM. Also check your battery. It it heats abnormally, that might be the issue as well...
Aosp+ 2.2 is ics... but regardless changing kernels fixed the issue.

Kernel fickle

I've download a couple of kernels like teuv, matrix, and air kernel. But I keep switching between them because I feel as if none of them are working....can someone suggest good solution?
Sent from my Nexus S
If your phone is like mine, you might want to make sure that the kernel you use is set for default voltages. Matr1x in particular won't run correctly unless I reset the voltages.
Eat at Joe's
Run the stock kernel.

+1 on mathkid's suggestion. You're phone might be a stock-lover.
I attached the stock ICS kernel here, or you can check out the stockish kernels such as (click for download sites/link):

SimpleKernel
Franco's
Hope this helps!

My phone only likes stock/simple, thalamus, and Pete's kernel. Every other one always gives me issues after a few days. Just stick with stock or modified stock, like thalamus as stated in another post.
Have you tried SimpleKernel by terryhau? Its the stock kernel with Voodoo and BLN added. Seems like a great solution for you.

Sound stutters when playing music.

My phone has a stuttering sound when playing music, I've tried different ROMs, different music players, different Music enhancement and everything, and I can't get rid of it.
I'm also hoping that it is not a hardware problem since the warranty on my phone is over.
Need help guys
Good day cheers!

I often use Sony Walkman but any Music player still does the stutter. and yea ive already cleared the dalvik cache.
Did you have this issue with stock Samsung ROMs?
What format is your music in? What kbps is your music at?
I had same problem on ICS stock kernel. Just flash other kernel dedicated for ics
Sollution for Stutter problem
Install Player Pro.
Then Install DSP Pack, and then do the following
Setting--Audio---Enable DSP Pack----Audio Buffer----Select very large
And Stutter is gone.

[Q] Tipo CPU and GPU Overclocking

Hi!
I have rooted Tipo. Running on Free Xperia kernel (3.0.8-FXP-g22c38de5) with MIUI 3.7.19 ported for Tipo on Android 4.1.2. What a long sentence So, my question is; can i overclock GPU and/or CPU. I have tried to overclock, but i only was able to underclock
you can only overclock cpu at stock rom with vergeance kernel (1.40) but it isnt stable
Sent from my Xperia Tipo using xda app-developers app

Ok, i might test it later, but not now since it's unstable. Thanks for info

either you don't have init.d support or busybox, or adrenaline engine is really worthless, IDK check if you have those two things, if you have them then adrenaline engine doesn't work well on CM. I noticed some improvement with multitasking on stock rom

You can use 1.40 vengeance kernel with gimlo rom.....i come from cm10 and miui.....believe me ...this rom is pretty fast.....and with vengeance kernel, i get 5041 score in antutu benchmark .
Earlier this vengeance kernel was very unstable......but now with gimlo ,this is behaving very well.....no doubt there are some some reboots when you strain the cpu a lot but thats very predictable
And one funny thing....i can play subway surfers all day long without any reboot ...hhaahaaa my fav game
Try it
If you get unstabilities, you can always switch back to stock...or better set the vengeance kernel to 800 (its rock stable there) and still you ll get 200 more points than stock Its a win-win situation .

It's more stable, but no overclock. I haven't tried it still, but I don't recommend using 1.40. If you want to play a 3d game or watch a flash video on a website the phone will reboot, regardless of the frequency or governor/io set
So now i know what to do.

So I'm going to install 1.46 and probably not overclock. I may test it, but if it crashes all the time, i'm not going to overclock.
