[Q] Processor Change Due To Overheating - Motorola Atrix 2

Its been around 1 month since i got my Atrix 2 but as i started adding applications the phone felt like it was heating a bit.
As i started playing games and watching movies it will heat up very badly just below the Motorola symbol where i think are its processors . And it even heats up at the battery level when using Tango a video call application .
So i contacted Motorola customer service , they told me to install Advanced task killer , which i already had and sometimes using it will also heat up the phones processors so i uninstalled it.
After taking it to repair center they told me that they will replace the the dual core processor , but i am a bit worried that opening up the phone might screw up the phone in long run
So please advise.

thats their fault if they screw it up so I would first demand they just replace the phone, and if that doesn't work have them do it, and if something is bad make them fix it again

If you're within 30 days of purchase your retailer where you purchased should do the exchange, otherwise you're stuck being at the mercy of Motorubbish.

Your phone will not brick itself as there is a fail-safe just like computers.it will just shut off to lower to cpu temp before it fries it.
Download a cpu temperature app and tell me what the average temp is. if its 140f or under, youll be fine. Anything above that i would attempt to exchange it for a new one.

I tried to find cpu temperature with tempmonitor app but it didn't tell the cpu temperature because of unverified vendor but the battery temp was 104.f Pls tell any app to find cpu temperature

1. it will give you the temp without rooting I think
2. you can root and fxz back to stock before you send it in.

No can do cos i am not that a great rooter plus they wont the phone in couple of days and i can say its temperature is above 120 cos it heats up so much that u cant even keep it in the hand. I even had to keep it in freezer for sum seconds to cool it ..
And this one app said that i dont have cpu sensor?

Reboots!

So I've had the phone since 4pm yesterday. I use uptime widget on my phones for kicks and to check for stability issues so I installed it right after I got it.
The phone was up for 7 hours until around 11pm when I rebooted it myself (to fix a unknown my phone number problem). It came up fine. 30 mins later it rebooted itself which i didn't think much of since I thought it was invoked by a SIM update. Since after the 2nd reboot it correctly showed my phone # in Status and my Messaging app, etc.
All is well, on the charger overnight, wake up this morning and use it everything is fine. At almost exactly 8:30AM while sitting idle/screen off it reboots again?!
Not sure if this is due to the tons of apps I have on or was again a network related reboot. I know in the past when I had GSM phones, the carrier can definitely initiate a reboot due to a SIM update. Having it happen at exactly 8:30AM seems bizarre. It's super fast and no lag or crashes otherwise.
I'm going to use it more today and keep an eye on it but just FYI. Anybody with it experiencing anything similar?

Could be because of me. I had Wifi Calling on both times and I had changed the network mode from the Auto default to WCDMA only. I'll get to the bottom of this, I'm sure
Check out this review of the GSlate by PC Mag. One of the cons is "occasionally reboots." I think LG has some 'splaining to do. This is their second device (third if you separate O2X from G2X) to suffer the problem.
Pros
First 4G tablet. Powerful Tegra 2 processor. Excellent HD screen, with HD output capability. Shoots and plays 3D footage (glasses included). Affordably-priced (after rebate) for 32GB capacity. Generally intuitive user interface. Dual-facing cameras. Video chat.
Cons
Default Honeycomb home screen feels cluttered. Flash 10.2 beta is buggy. Strange, off-center orientation for front-facing camera. Occasionally reboots, unprovoked, when idle. Android Market needs more Honeycomb apps.
Strange how LG could be causing this on both devices since they are both stock Android! My Moto XOOM with Honeycomb has it's issues as well because it's an early OS but having occassional reboots on Froyo 2.2.2 is not acceptable.
I'm hoping it's related to an app or something. Once more people get the phone we should be able to see if it's an isolated or widespread problem.
Its definitely not the LG's custom UI that is causing random reboots. I really hope its not the hardware!
Update coming soon hopefully?
http://translate.google.com/transla...alligevel-problemer-med-optimus-2x,lid.15324/
That's the 2X right? Doubt the same update will apply to us but here's hoping. Anybody else with a G2X having this? It could just have been me and the phone being provisioned. I've had it for less than 24 hours.
Lets not jump to conclusions just yet.. My phones have rebooted due to my doings, lets see if others have the issue first before blaming the issue on this phone too.
Just received my G2X today and have experienced the random reboot thing twice in about 3 hours.
Will keep an eye on it today and report back later.

Don't worry me like this! My phone is arriving tomorrow! Also when you guys got your phones did you plug it in and let it fully charge before playing with it? I know it would be hard not to just turn it on...
Just rebooted again while I was walking the dog and listening to a podcast so first time while I was using it. I think it might have to do with GPS use. The CNN app I installed last night uses it a ton and I think it causes the issue.
Anybody else having this using CNN or another GPS heavy app.
I've turned off GPS for now. Before this reboot it had been up for 10h

For whatever reason turning off GPS has made the phone even faster. Maybe there's a bug or memory leak related to GPS? Here's hoping we don't get any more reboots.

can last me all day and maybe enough for the next.
moderate use - lots of texting, phone calls, internet use, and some apps.

What rom?
What kernel?
How long of a life do you get?
Post your battery usage statistics. Settings-About Phone-Battery Use will tell you what's been using it since last charge, the app Spare Parts will tell you overall usage.

Thanks for all the feedback sarcasim and all. I've never had a battery issue before I installed the recent apk of the new android market. That is my only guess.
Is there a way to revert back and wait for the official update from the market? (I'm still new to android so I'm feeling my way around)
I am running stock rooted. Nothing special on this end.

I pulled the SIM outta my G2x last week after my N1 came back from the dead.
With the G2x just sitting there without a SIM, being used occasionally for Riptide or Pinball HD and some web browsing/email while watching the tube I get a solid 3 days of battery life. I forget the stupid thing is even on until the alarm goes off every morning at 6:45.
Just don't use the phone part of your $500 phone and it will work great!
solution
it was the downloaded apk for the market. i did a complete reset so this should fix my issue.

Overheating?

Hi,
I bought the Sensation about 11 months ago and I'm happy with it. Tha material on the back cover makes it slide from my hand but with a silicon cover everything works fine.
BUT, when I browse on the web, play games and check facebook it overheats, on the lower part of the phone. The more time I spend on these activities, the more it gets hot.
I'm constantly thinking to sell it, but I don't know if i't a good idea, since it does everything I need (and has a lot more of stuff that i don's use.. In fact i keep thinking about the new Lumia 620).
Does this happen to you too? May it be a battery problem? If I replace the original one with another, will it do something?
Thanks!

Ok, you said playing games. Games will definetly overheat your phone, and not just on android, but ony other smartphone you can find, because games take all the processer power it can get. I have xperia arc and it also overheats. Facebook is just the same story, but less than what games absorb from your CPU power.
So don't think it is only you. I have an iPhone and it also overheats up

My sad story with the Nexus 5!!

Hello guys , I got my nexus 5 from my relatives at US (I'm from India). Within the first month of usage, one fine day its motherboard got too much hot and eventually corrupted. I had to send it back to US to get it replaced (as its warranty can be claimed there). I dont think it's motherboard got corrupted because of rooting or any custom rom. Well after few weeks I got it back, and again within one month of usage it got hard brick. This time I'm not sure why it happened , maybe because of that I installed ElementalX kernel on Madhi rom ? or its happening because I'm using the charger that is provided with it from US and it has few voltage differences with respect to India. please guide me as I dont really want to mess it up 3rd time.
PS : I'm not a noob I have had Galaxy S2 for about 2 years and worked just fine for me without any problem. i always know what im doing but just confused that what is happening wrong with me when it comes to nexus 5. i have rooted so many of my friends phone and installed custom roms and no one ever encountered any problem .
Also to root nexus 5 i had used the roottool kit but i dont think it would have cause any problem as the problem arises after a month or so after rooting or installing a custom rom.!
I can guarantee u that if u flashed mahdi and ElementalX and let it on stock settings that wasn't the issue, i have them both installed since i got my n5 and never had issues.. sorry to hear that btw

Stick to the stock ROM . I had all nexus devices ever released , tried most of the custom Roms. And after all am back to the stock one .
The Charger is an Intl one , don't worry about voltage differences am using it on both 110 and 220 .and never try to charge it with higher Amps charger .
All should be fine .

The heat issue can be attributed to the charger.
Please try to use fastboot and adb toolkits can be tricky.(I'm no purest)
Did you have a case on while using custom ROM/kernel?Sometimes my phone gets hot while under heavy usage with case.
Are you changing/tweaking anything with trickster or faux,That could be while your phone burned up?
As far as bricking and it occurring a month later,by brick please explain what you see.(does your computer recognize it when being plugged in,Did it random reboot to nothing, Did it just turn off and not on,Did the battery run out and won't charge.Did it bootloop and screen go black?)a brick normally is a result of modifying the software somehow. Even if your electric charging is off that doesn't effect your firmware radio modem etc.
@D.D.P. can you elaborate a little better or did I cover it.lol
I hope any of what I said helps clarify, best wishes.
I bought my nexus 5 from Google Play US and my wall adapter says input voltage can be anywhere between 100V-240V @50Hz-60Hz which is acceptable on ALL countries worldwide. I don't think voltage supply is an issue.
Please tell us how you use your phone, what apps are installed, what rom/kernel you are in, and the last activity of the phone before they went hard-bricked. This information can help us prevent this sort of thing from happening.

You covered it. I'd have added the fact that any custom kernals where the voltage is peaked, especially during charging state or when a case that is one piece or doesn't allow enough air flow will cause increased heat. Also, where was the heating problem coming from? Near the camera area or near the speakers? That would be two separate issues. And a device won't simply hard brick after using it, randomly on its own. Its possible that during an update or a tweak or mod that the coding didn't merge properly and would definitely cause that.
I've used imported chargers on both of my old HTC phones and I haven't had a single issue. Many of my friends do the same as the ones I had used to charge the device a little quicker.
My guess is it was just your bad luck that you needed to RMA twice and on top of that from a different country.
Then again, it's good to cover all bases so buy a home country charger and good luck with your phone
Agreed.Bricks don't just randomly. Maybe case of faulty device.I would like to know what OP refers to a brick as on Xda there are different types hard or soft.

Yes, that is a over heat issue from encasing not allowing air flow. Take your case off and make sure you're not running several background processes. Your issue should subside.

Also, don't use aftermarket chargers or quick charge settings. The cells in your terminal aren't designed for voltage flux. Use an LG brand charger, and charge normally. Thanks for reminding me @vin4yak

Moto g 2015 overheating

Hi
few days ago i adquire a new moto g 2015 but found that the phone overheats just in a few minutes of using it on wifi or network data.it gets hotter tan when playing for example real racing or asphalt 8 games
tried whit the aosp rom form here to see if the problem is gone but it doesnt improve.
tried again with the oem rom but removing every motorola app but theres no improvement
its a phone issue or lollipop issue?
I've had no overheating and have noticed very few if any posts on overheating. How do you know it's overheating?

in just 3 minutes of use the screen and back comes hot to the point it hurts. just using wifi no other app open just using 1 app play or chrome well any app, same thing with network data.
but if you turn off the wifi or net data the temp start to drop.
Yeah, if it gets hot enough to hurt, that would concern me.. I'm guessing you don't have a case on it then. Looking at the battery stats, are there any apps that stand out as being heavy on the memory. Chrome is a heavy ram user or at least it was on mine, that's why I ditched it.

no cover but even with an amzer tpu cover you can feel the heat trough it,i know chrome is a ram guzzler i use opera .
in the stas everything looks normal os and screen as the mayor consumers other stuff in minimal state even chrome.
the problem is only when using it on wifi or network data, the center of the screen is the hottest spot when this happens.
other than gaming .. does it heat??
like .. if you are using Wifi, browsing for long hours.. watching videos for long time .. etc .. !
mine will also heat up .. when i play in direct sunlight .. the glass gets over heated .. i feel it would crack due to that heat..
but if i play in shadows or in rooms .. its ok .. not that much amount of heat..
try in several conditions and reply again bro.
The overheating is only on wifi or net data,in just 3 minutes, even if i use the phone in complete darkness!!

not unlocked. But i recomend any moto g 2015 to not unlcok until satified with the phone operation.
yerterday i tried to contact motorola and they answered me 30 minutes later so it seems that motorola now are suffering the same issue as lenovo customer service or policies " screw you its not bussines" then 20 more minutes later answering stupid questions the answer was simply a please return the unit with not even a hope or chance to try fix it, well since i purchased the phone from amazon returns are easy as 123, done with it!!!

I agree on waiting awhile, I waited 2 weeks before I unlocked. I would return it also with that type of overheating. Good luck.
Post your battery Temp
Dial *#*#4636#*#*. Choose 'Battery Information'. Look at the 'Battery Temp'. Post the screenshot here.
