Might be good to start here
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html
Also this might help a bit but bare in mind it's for the ace (Desire HD) rather than the Saga (Desire S). But the main part is still the same.

Thank you so much! When i finish my exams i'll try it

I don't know about the European version but I don't think they have a stock 2.2+ rom working on the US versions. But I'm pretty sure that you can have a stock rom on the Desire. So I would say Desire for customizing and Galaxy for hardware.
Thamks for your repli ! You have the desire or the galaxy ? Which one you prefer?

I love HTC Sense so desire 1 galaxy 0
Galaxy has easier root so 1-1
Galaxy's CPU is better in graphics (in a test i read) so 1-2
Desire has more ram 2-2
So theyre equal for me but it changes according to your prioities. So i say choose your destiny
Edit: you can disable Sense UI

hello guys,
i have been asking for a noob friendly guide for almost a week now, but finally i got one, you can visit the guide from http://hemorrdroids.net/overclocking-your-desire-z/
All credits goes to JD
ps: that guide is for the Desire Z, the only thing you need to change in the kernel module
Good luck all

I'm surprised that you find that a noob friendly guide. You've been given easier ways of doing this in this forum, that don't involve even having to connect your phone to your pc. Still, if you find it more comfortable that's fine, as long as you end up with the result you want.

Hello can you give us the link to the kernel please?
Thank you

Why virtuos unity is not yet supported in rom manager?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Ok guys... It's getting a bit messy in here... Why don't You ask this question in Virtuos Unity Rom thread? I dig this whole friendly atmosphere and stuff, but c'mon... This section needs some more agressive moderation.
You are better off updating using your computer anyway, less chance for anything to go wrong.
Yeah... I have noticed the last few days people are posting in the wrong sections! Come on guys!

Why is everyone so quick to flame without actually realising the situation
When he wrote the post, he had less than 10 posts, meaning he CAN'T write in the main thread in the Dev forum. So what he did was the RIGHT THING.

Thanks for the explanation. So any of you know why this rom is not supported? In rom manager i can see only 1.39.1 version...

I would also like to know why the latest versions of virtuous unity aren't in ROM manager..

Hey, I am looking for developers to help me with my rom project, I an hoping to make it big but can't do that alone. Rather than fill this thread with a bunch of stuff, simply email me at [email protected] for In depth detail. But on a basic note, the rom is called SOSA (SUPREME OS ANDROID), and will be released on the following devices firstly with others coming in the future:
HTC Evo 3D
Nextbook Premium 7 tablet
Velocity Micro Cruz T408 tablet
Nexus S
Mytouch 3G Slide (old school lol)
HTC Sensation
HTC Amaze
Kyocera Echo
Maybe other devices too
This is just the initial release. At the moment, the rom is gingerbread 2.3.x, but in the future I will be going to release an ICS 4.0 version. I am in need of themers, boot animation makers, kernel developers, and people with overall developing experience, I can't do this alone asks want this to be an amazing rom. Again if you are interested please feel free to gmail me. thank you for your support.

Lol u have to do what u have to do to get your point across.! But hey I'm kind of an amateur myself, if u want to jump in I can lead you in the right direction with lots of tutorials and stuff

I really appreciate the offer, but I'm deciding if I should start learning how to create custom roms, or go for creating themes. I'm kind of aiming at learning how to create themes. Hey though if you release a new version of SOSA, I'll create a sick theme for your rom when I learn how to.
Looking forward to it.! thanks for the support dude.!

Search, read, try, learn. The info is literally everywhere on this subject. Why would we need to rewrite what is already available to you?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Indeed as Pirate said. Not 1 person here just magically knew what to do. Most of this stuff is trial & error. The reading is to get you going in the right direction for what your trying to accomplish. Although you with find some step by step guides. Try different things and see the outcomes. One thing of advice. Always keep backups of what your editing and track what your doing in case you need to reproduce something such as an error your trying to fix. Anyways good luck!
I should restate my question. I understand that stuff is there, and I have found it, but I'm wondering what would be easy to make for a first time Rom. Like should I start with sense, or should I do stock. And wich version of android should I try out first

That depends. Are you wanting to modify a stock rom or compile CM/AOKP and edit that for your phone?

Start with modifying what your phone is running. Learn how to decompile and compile apks, smali edit, and understand the XML layout and structure of android. Unless you have a device that is supported by aosp you won't be building anything for stock android. At least until there is source and proprietary blobs available for your current device.

I want to start easy, would modifying one be easiest? Or starting from scratch?
