[Q] HELP!! status/notification bar gone!!! - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

ok. I started my phone from scratch earlier. Everything was fine. Flashed Final-fixed. Everything was fine. Got a few apps back, everything was fine. After a while, I flashed the Booster... rebooted, and now my status bar/notification bar is GONE! On boot, I get an error about systemui problem had to force close. How can I fix this?

Exact error, which came up when in SetCPU, which is also giving me problems:
The application Status Bar (process com.android.systemui) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

Final fixed already comes with booster. You're constantly having problems no one else is. You're not reading. You're flashing randomly. You're not doing things right. If you don't want problems go back to stock, or you can read carefully and not just flash willy nilly

No man, I DO READ. I read it all. Sometimes I get a little confused about what some things are, but I'm not a dev, and this is my first smart phone. I'm NOT flashing randomly, either. Jesus, man not everyone can just jump right into this stuff and know it all. If you didn't want to offer a little help or a solution, don't be an ass. I'm trying to learn ffs. I was under the impression that val final and val black were different.

Seriously man? 6 posts in a row:

If someone had help to offer you're gonna have to wait for it. You're spamming the hell out of the board, so how about YOU quit being an ass.
I don't think you're reading at all. You're doing more typing and flashing than reading. If you don't understand how something works, why are you flashing it? You should be trying to understand how it's going to affect your device.
My advice: reflash valhalla final, don't install any tweaks. Valhalla final is one of the most stable roms out there and it's been used as the base for at least 3 roms that have been posted.
Here's a lot of reading for you:

Thanks, that's better man. FYI, i'm not posting the same stuff everywhere. I'm reading and learning stuff, then trying to see what I can do. It's not all the same posts, just like the last 5 of mine have been about the notification bar, but all different querys. I'll clean it up tho, after I get sorted out. Also, I've already read the whole wiki, and the ENTIRE threads for all the things I've considered flashing.

Oh, how do I get into my phone if I cant pull down the notification bar to connect USB?
Never mind. I know already. Mount USB in CWM sry.,

Just an update after lots of troubleshooting, in case anyone might run across the same problem and did as I did:
I added the paid version of SetCPU to system/apps in the zip of the ROM I was flashing. I guess that's what was causing the issues, because now everything is stable. I kept Paid ADW Launcher, replacing the stripped down version, also a modified SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk, and twframework-res.apk. All three from the zip I got from UOT Kitchen. So, now this great rom is even greater, and HIGHLY customized. Dont know why the modified crucial apks will work, but it wouldn't take the addition of setcpu...

If you pushed those apk's without rebooting to recovery and fixing permissions that will throw all the force closes.

After I figured out what you meant by 'pushing', I got it sorted out just like you said. Thanks man!

[Q] Question about viperboys BSM mod..

I'm sure this is in the wrong place, So i'll start by apologizing. lol
I tried posting on the thread but i don't have permissions for dev threads..
Okay, so i read up quit a bit the past couple of days about the BSM mod.
I just recently rooted and installed CM7.0.2.1 with Tiamat 3.5.8; no SBC.
(also i was thinking about trying SBC, buuut i read about alot of batteries
getting way messed up and smoking and stuff lol so is that still the case?
Or has this been fixed?)
For the life of me i cannot get his mod to work. I tried wiping cache's and
installing .zip's but to no success. So just a couple minutes ago i go ahead
and buy root explorer to be able to manually add the file, which went good.
But, when i run the Terminal, there is still no change all levels are the same.
As a side note, my levels are actually a tad bit higher then his OP of what
the stock levels should be..weird.
I'm not extremely professional with all this stuff, but I'm getting there.
All help is appreciated, Thanks guys.!
EDIT: Here is screenshots..
Nobodys got anything?

[Q] I have had it with this horrible phone. Help me get a good flash for once.

In the life of this phone, I have easily flashed a good 15-20 different Roms onto the device and used most of them for a decent amount of time. NO ROM has ever worked very good at all. The best luck I have ever had were with a couple like Valhalla and Octane that would work pretty decent for a couple months then the problems would always return in full force. Again, EVERY single rom has gotten extremely annoying problems eventually. I have had it with this phone.
I don't know what I could be missing here, as I have tried multiple times to start completely fresh from stock and wipe everything before and after a flash, but nothing works. The current ROM was installed after an sd card format, full wipe, wiped caches, etc... Right now it will randomly exit the messaging app frequently, has wifi problems, apps force close, random restarts, it often won't upload/download things because it says it doesn't have an sd card, and to top it off, CWM is having problems and will get stuck on a screen with just a picture and no words.
This phone is borderline unusable for its stability and other issues and I am tired of trying to make it work well. I am not even new to flashing roms, but this phone is a headache. Someone, please help me figure out what is wrong with this phone.
Even with these problems and my long rant here, this would still be a great phone and should have plenty of life left in it. I had minimal problems with my old SGS Captivate that I had before this, so I don't know what is wrong. Perhaps a piece of hardware is faulty? I would highly doubt that. I need help!
Use the GB Starter Pack. If you are using Titanium to put everything back, it may lead to problems. I remember a couple of times where restoring all my apks and data with Titanium caused a soft boot or force close cycle.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
I stopped using TB a long time ago. That would not be the problem.
What ROM are you currently using right now. Maybe see if you can take a log of it to find out why the things Messaging might not be working?

It is currently on the non-themed Octane 3.0. I don't have the phone next to me right now, but can you explain the process for taking a log?
It sounds like you've wasted too much time trying flashing roms and trying to make the piece of crap perfect than actually using the phone. As much as I hate the stock of this phone, I will suggest using the one click kj6 heimdall then root it and voodoo no tweaks. Also start from fresh and try octane v3.0 w/o tweaks or kernal updates.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11930-learn-to-logcat-like-a-pro/
I hope that helps you out. There are some apps on the market like CatLog and aLogcat that also take logs if the guide doesn't work for you.

Im not trying to make it perfect at all. I am just trying to make it usable. It is extremely annoying when all you want to do is create a message but the app constantly force closes no matter what you do. The dialer has had the same closing problem also. Or the frequent rebooting multiple times a day. Like I said, I have had a few good flashes, but they only last for a few months until the problems come back.
To me, it seems as if though you are having some cache problems. Start fresh. Flash to froyo and try. If that doesn't work, then take your phone to t-mobile, because that is a hardware problem. I have been using the same rom for a month or two now (latest beta version of my AOSP Style) and I haven't had a single fc. I have even used processor tweaks and whatnot. SO before you cuss this phone out, I suggest you try my solution, it is guaranteed to work.
Oh yeah, as air said, it might actually be a hardware problem.

I have flashed back to froyo already, unfortunately. And there isn't a contract on the phone anyway. Do you know what piece of hardware would cause this though?
Not really sure, but if you are back to stock, I'd try to exchange it for another phone. I've had this phone since June (also not on contract), and I haven't had any of the problems you've had. Yes, I do need to reboot my phone every once in a while because bluetooth sticks and won't come on, but that's about it.
Usually, after I flash a rom and restore my programs/theme, I'll go back into cwm, wipe cache, wipe, dalvik, fix permissions, and then reboot and let the phone sit for a while. That usually takes care of making sure everything works right.

Any 165.1 roms yet?

I love bulletproof but no WiFi and my FB bein retarded sux...
I am on Bulletproof, and my wifi and Facebook are fine, maybe you got a bad flash?
Could be... Did you flash from 155 originally?
WiFi worked until I overclocked. If i put stock boot.img back WiFi works though.
Facebook works, but not the same as it used to. I can't look at pictures
hey sorry for the delay, but i finally got around to testing this. i am on the latest OTA/radio etc., and i got wifi to work on Bulletproof with the UV6 kernel.
Blue made me realize that you have to use the EXACT modules that came with the kernel you are flashing. he may have even pointed this out to us before!
so in your case, you could just flash the full kernel zip again, and it will install the appropriate modules without touching your boot image(since you are rooted but S-ON). or however you wanna do it, just get those very modules from the UV6 kernel into your system somehow, lol. (or from whichever kernel you wanna use)
again, sorry for the delay on this. hope you get it working right away!
Confused.... To get the kernel I had to fastboot flash boot.img...
So it already changed the boot image... Kernel won't apply with s-on correct?

fastboot flashing the boot image wasn't enough, you also need the exact same modules that came in the zip where you got the boot.img. from. so if you simply flash the full kernel zip in ClockworkMod, it should write those modules into your system, and wifi should fire right up once you boot up, since you already have the boot.img flashed.
if you know how to manually paste the modules into your system, you can do that too. they go in /system/lib/modules. then you set the permissions and reboot.

excellent!
which features of facebook do you mean? and do you mean Facebook for HTC Sense/Freindstream, or the Android FB app?
i have noticed that Friendstream is cool, but incomplete in some areas. when someone posts a pic, the app does a good job of retrieving that person's entire album, and it even displays it in the gallery i believe. BUT, it often doesn't retrieve the latest pic, which was THE pic you wanted to see! so that is annoying, and i think that is just how it is. there are a few other things as well.
It's the Android FB.... Facebook sense continually tries to update though...
If you go on someone's profile or timeline there is no ability to look at albums or info now. As a matter of fact there is no timeline display at all. I deleted and reinstalled... Same thing. It was fine before bulletproof.

yeah, i see what you mean about the Android FB app. is there a chance that they updated the app just recently, and maybe it's buggy? if not, then perhaps something was removed from the ROM that is needed for that? i'll let you know if i find anything out about it.
It's fine on my other slide with 155
I'll have to check my records and see what I removed regarding facebook. Pretty sure I left all libs and supporting files, so not sure what could be missing.
I don't have a facebook account, so can't check directly, and I've been pretty wiped out when I get done my shifts. Depending on traffic and what time they let me go in the morning I can get home anywhere between 8 and 9:30 AM.
I know this has been an issue bugging you for a while now, so I'll make an effort to focus on it when I get in tomorrow morning, some 8 or 9 hours from now.
Sent from a digital distance.
ok, i was just gonna say that there is probably a fix, like adding back something that was removed from the ROM, but i have been trying it again, and it is working every time. i tap on a contact's name and it brings up their profile page.
update: well, i have been able to get it bring up the person's profile every time, but something seems to be missing... namely, the bar at the bottom of the page that lets you select their Wall, Info, or Photos. well in any case, i can see those things on my Sidekick with the same app, but not on the MT4GS with Bulletproof and UV6 kernel. strange
Thanks for looking into it and making the comparison on even another device.
I'm not sure what's not right, i'm just in and going to see what I can browse through in my changelogs from one version to the next.
If anyone's feeling flash happy and willing to test it out though, is it any different on version 1.0 to version 1.1?
I've got both still available for download if anyone feels like checking into it, link for 1.0 is underneath 1.1 on the thread in the OP.
Hopefully I can come up with something to remedy the issue.
( I can't believe a day actually came that I kinda wished I had a facebook - getting involved with it would still represent a black mark on my conscience, but still...wow lol )
Thanks!
Ya I don't have a FB either. But it always seems like the FB app is giving one group or another problems. Doesn't it?

i tried it on Bulletproof 1.0, and it is behaving the same as on 1.1. i have noticed that on the Sidekick 4G, those choices on someone's profile page are usually there, but are ocasionally not... so i am getting closer to chalking it up to inconsistencies with the app itself, and/or the way the app interacts with the FB site. i kinda doubt there is anything with the ROM that would cause this, or at least anything that you could actually pinpoint. not positive, but leaning this way.
but, it is curious that i have yet to get those options on the MT4GS with the 2 Bulletproof ROMs, but can get them on the SK most of the time. i think it could also have to do with the FB Timeline feature, and with whose profiles have been converted over, and whose haven't.
i guess my final test will be to flash back to my nandroid of the stock 1.63.531.2 ROM, and see how it works there. i'll update this post once i do that
I have access to a mt4g slide with 155 and one with 165 and mine with bulletproof. Other than bulletproof both the others have the bar at the bottom with same FB app installed. It is definitely ROM related.

No arguments, and given what others have posted as well it seems most likely that something in Bulletproof doesn't agree with facebook.
Being as it's not a service I use, it's a bit difficult to troubleshoot, and while I run better a bit tired, i'm way past that threshold on this gig (can't believe i'm still up, actually, i've got to get up in 4 hours for a commitment before work)
I don't have work friday or saturday - but am finding myself spending friday morning when my shift ends until sometime saturday afternoon recuperating from the beating I take during the workweek. I'll give what time I can during the workweek on it, but can't promise any kind of coherent progress.
If it comes down to me having to sign up for a facebook account to fix it, it won't get fixed.
I do not agree with the facebook terms of service, and have no intentions of giving my data to that institution to sell off. Facebook is now selling off peoples pictures for product advertising and as a retail merchandiser if I had to stock product with my image on it i'd flip out and lose my job on the spot.
Beyond that, the big Z is unpredictable, and who knows what he'll authorize being done with the data they are mining in the future, but they are actively seeking any avenue possible to monetize the data they own (yes, they own all the data you put through facebook) - no thanks, I want nothing to do with all of that.
So, i'll do the best I can as I can, but there are very real limits to how far i'm willing to go in seeking a resolution to the matter.

My first flashing... (no trenchcoat involved)

So, I finally flashed a ROM onto my Atrix 2 for the first time the other day.
Synopsis
Long story short the twitter app crashed my phone and threw it into a boot-loop, I did some research, quickly learned the in's-and-out's of flashing ROM's, flashed the stock-ROM for my device, fully updated my device, and became a better man for it...okay, well maybe not that last part!
The nitty-gritty
What happened was I was trying to update my twitter when the app locked up after hitting the 'submit' button. I tried to force-close the program but to no avail. Then I had the bright idea of shutting down my phone. This is where the fun began.
After re-booting my phone, I discovered that it was stuck in a boot-loop. Now, my phone has been rooted for a little over a month. There were no issues that occurred after I rooted my phone up until that point. This is what leaves me to believe that Twitter corrupted some app data.
After this happened I took to the internet and scoured over forums (this one chief among them), articles, videos, and even asked a few fellow-android users here in the real world. Everywhere I looked lead me to this term I had feared up until this point: Flashing.
I understood that flashing a ROM was just like installing a new operating system. I had toyed around with Linux before just a bit and am savvy-ish when it comes to computers. However, I was so terrified of bricking my phone in trying to flash a new ROM onto it (I would have been track-phoning for around a year until my next manufacturer subsidy came out on my account.)
After discovering terms like deodexed, CM7, stock, AP Fastboot, RSD Lite, and hardware-key reset, I felt like I was finally able to attempt the flashing. The first few attempts failed as I didn't realize I didn't have enough battery life to sustain the flashing process.
After charging it up, I flashed the stock ROM onto my phone. The moment it went from the red M puddle screen to the dripping AT&T sphere, then onward to the ROM was a moment of pure joy (not to sound corny.) I felt like I had beat-the-system. A problem that would have forced others to return their phone to the store was a problem that I fixed myself.
Final Thought
I know this is rather cinematic for it being a simple flash job on an android device. But, for me, this was quite exhilarating. I'm not comfortable flashing anything lower than full-release ROM's (beta and alpha ROM's are a bit beyond my scope right now.) But, I do look forward to testing out various full-release ROM's as they become available.

In all technicality all you're doing when flashing a rom (at least now) is installing some tweaked files such as build.prop or some tweaked system files for themes. By no means is it a new OS. But once a main kernel Dec finished up with a CM7 kernel we should be able to flash a custom kernel which is the meat of what really runs your phone. Really the stuff we can do right now only really have to do withtl the UI.
But anyways welcome to the world of android development!

Congrats on flashing your first ROM . Sorry to hear it didn't completely work out for your. Quick question: did you wipe the Dalvik Cache as part of the flashing process?
By the way, most of the ROMs labeled "beta" are pretty stable. If a ROM has had more than a few updates and it's still in beta, it's mostly because the developer is either planning on adding more features for the full release or is a perfectionist
Well, as you can tell it's a sharp learning curve. But welcome to the world of Android hacking/modding/whateveryoucallit, and happy flashing

I would say it worked out pretty well. I will probably flash a custom ROM later on this week. I will also keep reading up on the whole process and the it's and out's.
I cleared both user data and the dalvik cache as well. Pretty much at that point I was desperate. Lolz

I agree. Spent this weekend working on the Stock 2.3.6 rooted/odexed. Added the Superv6, and other mods, hotspot wifi fix, removed bloat. Definitely more fun this way. Then again I had a buttload of practice on my original ATRIX.
And thank god for the bootstrap and FXZ !!!!

How exactly do I identify bloatware? I have two programs to do that Titanium backup and Rom Manager as well as a few 3p uninstallers. However, I never know exactly what to delete?

DON'T ever delete any programs. It is better to use something like bloat freezer, and freeze these apps, than to delete them.
The updates check for missing "bloatware" and will fail to install the updates due to ANY missing apps, that came with the stock image.
If you want a debloated image, then use one of the more custom ROMS like lithium, or Supercharged, etc.
If you use a debloated ROM, then you can always flash the fxz back before any updates come out, we tend to start screaming pretty load on here when updates start to arrive as you may have already seen this week with the ICS leaks.
P.S. It is VERY hard to hardbrick this phone, it took me killing the signature on the kernel to get my first hardbrick, and I have had 3 more hardbricks. I have the warranty through att, so I never worry about things like that, since I am a dev and take my phones life into my own hands, and ATT always has exchanged my phone on the spot for over 12 years now.... You can softbrick (bootloop), but that is an easy fix with the FXZ (lifesaver). So not too much to worry about hurting your phone with flashing...

I though the same thing, and I was kind of glad it did crash though, so that I could find that article with the interview of cyanogen that was posted on the XDA-dev home page.
AscottW, I am like you -I read and researched and forum'd my evening/early morning hours away with regards to the whole rooting and flashing and so on. I have never done such things with a phone before, but being fairly computer savvy myself felt like after several hard weeks learning as much as I could, flashed MY first ROM. (Did a little happy dance myself when I saw the custom boot animation for the first time, think I even let out a little school boy squeal as well! -Glad no one was around to hear that)
Still reading and researching and forum'ing at every free moment I have (girlfriend and kids think my laptop has become permanently attached to my, well... lap!) and am really interested in possibly getting myself to a point where I can be of some usefulness in the dev world.
Admittedly, after flashing for the first time, I got foolish with CWM and did basically what seemed like deleting the system partition and told the Android OS to get lost. Big mistake. Got stuck in a crazy splash screen loop and wouldn't load Android OS for the life of me. That said, with the help of the good people here on this forum, I was able to be walked through a AP Fastboot FXZ file fix, updated back to 2.3.6, and started over -making damn sure I knew what I was doing before doing ANYTHING! lol

[Q] Help! Please....HELP!!! Mysteriously UNROOTED

I am having anissue...sch-1535...d2vzw....whatever it needs to be called...running du_d2vzw_2013-10-14
Was attempting to backup everything with TiBu...... (was sooo pumped to flash KitKang, been running Dirty Unicorn 4.3.1 for about a week; loved it, just relatively new to all of this, only had a gs3 since September... so proverbial noob, although not naive...)..... upgraded to TiBu Pro when it said I did not have enough free storage available to batch backup apps/system data... which of course was bogus. Checked the forums and tried to update SuperSU permissions, was redirected to Playstore for some sort of update; next thing I know, this bad boy is briefly rebooted into recovery and now.....alas, I evidently no longer have root permissions............?????....!!!????asdfasf asfgawo asfasgh
I would really appreciate some help; I have already tried to flash SuperSU update or whatever; I have also even tried to (re?)root with Casual (which is what I used the first and only other time I rooted my phone to flash JellyBeans b_19 a few weeks after I got the phone for $0.97 at wally world) and that did not work...
I am completely cool at this point with doing a factory wipe and flashing from scratch, I just don't want to do that yet because I lack the confidence in myself. I feel like I have learned about as much as I could have in the past couple months, and while this site is incredible, there seems to be a lot of cooks in the kitchen telling me 9 ways to skin a cat (to no fault of their own... if anything it's on me for being ill-equip to decipher and filter the signals through the noise...) and I could realllly use a helping hand here.
I'd like to end this saga with first an apology; my rambling is probably adding unneeded information and leaving out more vital details that would better help my future hero, and for that I am sorry and appreciate your patience.... and secondly, I would like to thank everyone who is involved with the development, maintenance, and everything else Android... you fellas are brilliant, and it is not enough to thank you for facilitating me with a hobby/passion, however new and freshly planted this obsession of mine may be; THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what all you have done.
Proper way to fix in this case is probably to flash your same ROM again , just dirty flash it. If that doesn't work then try to settle a bit and explain in English clearly what you have done so far step by step. Or you can just go into recovery, wipe everything and flash your chosen ROM fresh.
Thanks for answering, Doc, and sorry for the inane illustration of immediately inept, irritatingly irrational, illusion-ed illiteracy I illustrated inside the earlier invoice.... I was flipping out because the last thing I want is a to deal with some bootloop.
It's the little things, evidently; I had thought I was flashing the most recent version of SuperSU: Wrong. Reflashed the newest update, cleared cache/dalvik... and now I am golden. Thank you sir.
While I am typing, would you or anyone have an opinion on the most "solid/functional/reliable/dependable" 4.3(+) ROM available? Like I said, I have been using Dirty Unicorns 4.3.1 and while it was almost excellent, I prefer to be able to utilize xposed or something similar for functions such as LMT, etc... thanks!
Try the instructions on this link.

The most functional , stable , fully features ROMs for the Verizon S3 are the custom TW ROMs. . Lots of good ones, I have personally used Hyperdrive,, Synergy and Jelly "Beans" They are all great, each with a different mix of features and custom settings. "beans" release 20 is new this week and has the xposed framework.
Thanks! I got flash antsy and while I was looking at liquidsmooth 2.10, I noticed that 2.37 had just been posted no sooner than 3 hours before...to which I declared it fate and have been happily running that ever since. Very seldomly, it procures minor hiccups...but I love it. I have been reading a few things about beans_20 that have made me think I need to wait just a bit for all the kinks/fixes to be registered before diving in. I'd imagine that within a few weeks there will be some sort of 4.4 that can be a DD with enough customizable options to keep me busy...I'm hopefull anyway.
