Is there any way to remove dust under the screen of a Sensation? I'm getting mine in two days and I know there's already going to be some underneath because I'm trading via the Marketplace.
I got mine through Craigslist and it has no dust
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
The only way is to disassemble the device and clean the dust out then reassemble it.
I think in The Netherlands (Europe) dust in your screen is covered with factory warranty. As it's a known factory issue HTC offers to fix the issue themselves instead of through your dealer. It's worth a shot contacting HTC.
Had my phone sent twice to HTC technical service in Poland (Regenersis), and, despite of having S-OFF'd and rooted device they did needed repairs. My phone had dust under the screen twice. Today I was given my phone back with full list of changed parts + big WOW - foam between digitizer and screen to prevent dust from coming under the screen. I think you should try contacting technical service. Wish you luck!
its probably had the digitizer replaced at some point... just remove the digitzer using a heat-gun, clean the dust out, re-seal and re-assemble.
there's guides out there about how to replace the digitizer that you can follow.
Only way to remove dust is buy disassembling the phone. The dust is usually between the gorilla glass and the screen. I had dust under my screen and was annoying. Recently got it replaced from HTC as it was on warranty. The service center guy said many people have come with this problem

Hey rhishavphukan,
How long did they take to give you your phone back?

I searched the forums and google and couldn't find an image similar to what is happening to my fuze.
So yesterday I noticed a problem with my fuze screen, and i don't know if i can't explain the problem or what, but at&t is convinced it's damaged and will charge me a bunch if i even try to send it in.
There are no cracks, scratches, whatever. (I wish i could take a pic, but the only cam i have is the phone)
The problem is that the surface of the screen (I think the soft touch screen top) seems to have a thin layer of 'something' in there. It is the same shape as the screen, centered, and about 70% of the screen's size. The effect is something like the shimmer/rainbow from a very thin layer of oil on water. (thin film interference?) Anyways, the touch screen still works, the lcd still works, the glass isn't cracked, and I have no idea what happened. I use a screen protector and am very protective of my baby.
I'm thinking I need to order a new digitizer and replace that? ($25 and some labor doesn't sound bad after talking to AT&T about what i would get charged if they decide it's physical damage)
I dunno, if anyone has experience with damage like this or at&t or replacing digitizers and has any words to help me, either with explaining what happened or what i should do, that would be much appreciated.
I had the EXACT same problem on my fuze. It looked like the layers of the screen began to seperate. AT&T scared me that they would charge me for this so I sent it directly to HTC and they replaced the screen at no cost to me...took about 2 weeks.
AT&T Warranty agents are trained to be cautious in regards to damage to devices as the mail program doesn't leave much(any) option once you send the phone back for the exchange. It's either no-damage/no-charge or damage/charged, after which you cannot go back on the exchange.
My advice is to see if there is a Device Support Center in your area.
http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB91429
I went to one with my possibly damaged Fuze and they took a look at it and exchanged it without any "possible" charges jargon.
If that isn't an option, you could buy a pre-paid phone to use while you send it in to HTC as TheSopranos16 did for repair.
Good luck!
Sir, the problem you have is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439410
I only hope my xperia doesn't get it.
i have this same exact problem. its technically called a newton ring. att wanted $500 to fix it and the htc rep told me that whenever they encounter this they usualy dont cover under warenty because it is due to pressure on the screen and it would cost something like $300 to fix. so i basically said forget it and now im stuck with it.
Hey guys noob here,
Any of you know where i could find a replacement glass digitizer?
My lcd works fine i dropped my phone (no case ) and cracked the screen after one week. Would you guys recommend fixing it on my own or getting a new one through tmobile for 140?
i would call Lg and see how much the digitizer glass is it might be cheap if you do it yourself
This place has it for 55.09 its out of stock right now tho.

Screens are tricky because they have a seal to keep out dust. If its not done right you may end up with dust particles later and it will drive you mad. You also need a clean/dust free room because dust will get in when your're sealing up the screen. It may look dust free but there is dust all around. I'm not sure how it is for our G2x, but that's how it was with my HTC G1.
I had a Nexus One on launch and few months down the road, I noticed dust in the corner. I ended up getting 2 more replacements due to dust under the screen. Probably crappy QA. When replacing my girlfriends G1 damaged digitizer, I tore the LCD flex PCB ribbon. There are a few layers of flex PCB and it has to be plugged one layer at a time. It was madness!!!
I would suggest getting the replacement from T-Mobile just so you have peace of mind.
Don't feel bad about breaking your phone. Last Monday (Memorial Day) I jumped in the pool with my one week old G2x. I didn't realize until 20 minutes later. I have insurance so I had a new one by Wednesday. Funny thing is, It still works, but the screen was waterlogged and screwy. Because of the issues I had with my G1's, I just paid the $130 to have it replaced.
Haha I almost did that's with my g2x. Good thing my friend didn't push me in.

I managed to break the screen on my Optimus 3d last night, not sure if it was dropped or ran over. I found it face down in my driveway this morning and to my horror when I flipped it over the screen was completely smashed, however the phone is still working fine, minus the never ending ghost call issue.
What make the situation worse is Rogers just sent me out a replacement phone yesterday and I have to send this one back, in the next couple days.
So I called a repair centre and they wanted $190 to repair the phone, and stated they would need to replace the LCD and the glass screen. I know there is nothing wrong with the LCD screen, phone functions and all colours are good, just has broken glass.
My question is, can I repair just the glass without replacing the LCD? I have found the screen for around $30 on ebay. Based on watching the how to on youtube it doesn't look like too difficult of a job.

First of all , this was asked before. Read the forum. I know because i asked that question.
Check here ;

and here ;

Carefully read them , especially my posts because i did it.
Where are you from and how fast can you get the replacements off ebay ?
When you get them it'll take about half an hour to fix it.
Nobody will notice unless there's damage to the LCD.
If it has we'll have to change it too.
I can guide you via Skype video calling.
Ok so I have managed to remove the broken screen, it was actually fairly easy my only concern is the part show at the 7:00 minute mark of the video below, was broken when I removed it. The copper tape strip (or whatever it is) is still in tact. Where can I purchase this part? I still have all the pieces and if worst comes to worst I will attempt to very carefully assemble the phone with the broken parts to see if the phone still functions. I'm assuming this is part of what operates the home, search, back and menu buttons.
I have already removed the glue and am going to pick up a new screen from London shortly. I had some adhesive remover and work in a glass shop so I have all the tools and cleaners to ensure my new screen sticks and fits nicely.
After reading the thread you linked I am wondering if the screen they sell in London will will include the outside casing, this would solve all of my problems. I guess I will know soon enough, heading to London now. I will let you guys know how I made out.
Heey if you look on youtube you find couple of videos its not very difficult i did it with a friend of my it takes 20 minutes be carful ^^
Goodluck
You can make do without a front case if you know what you're doing. I lacked equipment so i used alternative methods like shoe glue or blowdryer (which killed the original digitizer)...
No matter what you do they'll recognize if you don't buy it with a front casing though... (Already glued preferably)
I found it in turkey so i don't think you can't find it in london , resources are vast there...
Look around.
Remove the digitizer and check the lcd before heading to london if need be buy it as well.
If you need help you know where to find me...
Cheers!

Ok so I got the new screen installed and everything is working great. I purchased some 3m adhesive at the repair shop which made for a very clean replacement after removing all the old glue with some adhesive remover. Decided to grab a LCD for my brothers LG970 while I was there and repaired it as well.
New phone arrived yesterday evening, so I will be sending this one back this afternoon. The screen replacement is very clean so I'm not concerned about that but I did manage to lose the little speaker cover from the front of the phone, I just plan on telling Rogers it fell of at some point if they ask about it. Considering the phone is in working order with no physical damage besides wear and tear I don't expect an issue from Rogers.
By the way anyone want to purchase the brand new Optimus3d Rogers sent me? Not even taking this one out of the box, selling it and getting the as far away from LG phones as I can.
Thanks for all the help guys.
I could think about buying it but you need to disassemble it and wrap the parts good.
In Turkey it's illegal to buy phones from foreign countries but it's not if you buy not working parts.
So in short i'm gonna con them into thinking it's for parts if you're up to it. PM me the price in your head.

I have sent you a pm. At least I believe I have I don't actually see the message in my sent items list.
After having no reply from HTC with regards to getting the dust removed under the screen of my HTC Sensation Z710e, I got quotes from 2 different websites.
First was http://www.gsrepairs.co.uk/ who quoted as estimate of £20
They sent me this reply:
"Hi Matthew,
Thanks for getting in touch. You would be looking at around £20 to tidy up the inside of the phone. We would have to completely disassemble the phone as the flex ribbon which is connect to the mainboard sits behind the lcd. We would also have to replace the adhesive which holds the front screen down."
Second Was http://www.buzz-box.co.uk/ who quoted me £88.35.
They sent me this reply:
" Hi matthew moss
HTC Sensation Screen Repair
Your screen including digitiser and lcd are replaced with this repair as they are factory bonded. We just need the phone including battery so we can test it before returning it to you. No sim, memory card or accessories need to be included with your device. We recommend you back up your device for data before sending it, though we do not usually need to wipe data with this repair.
Repair Information
Screen £ 81.65
Return Courier £ 6.70
Total Quote £ 88.35"
Obviously, there is a huge difference in quotes, but first company say they can basically just clean up the dust, but second company saying the digitizer and lcd need to be replaced!!
The phone is in absolutely mint condition, the only problem is the dust, so basically what i'm trying to figure out is....do I really need to pay to have digitizer and lcd replaced, just for dust? and maybe the £20 quote to clean the dust from the first quote is dodgy?
Or, is the second quote just taking the pi$$ by saying they will have to replace lcd and digitizer?
Can't afford to go changing my phone and neither do I want to, but with summer coming fast, it's a nightmare trying to view the screen in the bright sunlight and there's NOOO way I'm going to attempt the repair myself.
Has anyone ever heard of or dealt with http://www.gsrepairs.co.uk?
Are they a reputable company and know what they are doing etc?
£20 to clean the dust out underneath the screen sound too good to be true?
Or, can anyone recommend a good reputable company in the UK that can clean the dust out from underneath my screen?
Any info and help you can give me will be hugely appreciated.
thanks
Matt.
Hi,
I think it's indeed neccesay to replace at least the digitizer. The dust is trapped between the digitizer and the display, and removing the digitizer from the screen will/could:
- break the seal between the digitizer and the screen. this is glue I believe.
- stain the digitizer, a new one comes with protective sealing to prevent it from getting dirty during repair.
unless they damage/stain the lcd screen, I think it's bull they have to replace that one aswell.
a new digitizer comes at a price of € 14 with prying tools. I'd say ask gsrepairs for specific cleaning method. Will they remove the digitizer in order to clean the dust (I believe there's no other way)? will they replace it and if not how will they guarentee the display will come back nice and tidy to you?
if it's typical sensation dust I would not even send it in if it were for free. I've got a bad experience with repairing the one time I did it and the litle bit of dust in my case isn't bothering me. But if it is as severe as you say we're talking a whole different situation. And what I find harmless, could be an absolute pain to others.
Since I'm dutch I can't tell you anything about the repair centre you mentioned. But finding reviews shouldn't be that hard
I have the dreaded "dust under screen" issue on my Sensation and getting too bad to ignore. I know there are many threads here and videos online for REPLACING the digitizer. As the digitizer is not damaged i want to lift it, clean and refit with 3M double sided tape. I cant find any video on removing and refiting without replacing the digitizer.
Does anyone know if:
The digitizer can be romoved without damaging the cable?
Remove without damaging/distorting the digitizer when seperating from the screen?
Can the digitzer be lifted off screen without disassembling the phone? (Preferred option)
I have searched and cant find any info both on XDA and elsewhere. I know the digitizers can be bought cheaply but id rather not have to take the phone apart to replace it.
it took me 1min to google for this

I guess you misread my post..... it would have taken less than a minute to read it properly.
I see lots of videos and info on replacing the digitizer but i dont want to do that. I asked for info on removing/lifting the digitizer without having to fit a new one. I want to know if anyone has done this without damaging the digitizer taking it apart from the screen. I have searched LOTS for the relevant ino but cant find answers.

As shown in the many online videos and like the link posted above. Just dont cut the ribbon cable.
I bought a toolkit and 3m tape online. Really the only tools needed are a guitar pick(for seperating lcd/digitizer), torx bit, small flat screw driver or similar for prising plastic motherboard cover and a bic pen cap for lifting ribbon cable connectors and pulling cable out.
Must be disassembled as the digitizer cable has little slack for it to be lifted, Make sure you heat well with a hair dryer (heatgun not needed) and dont push the guitar pick too far in as it spreads the adhesive onto the lcd and back of digitizer. Be extra careful at the top corners as I slightly marked the area inside top left border. It can be hard cleaning both surfaces, if u ever fit a screen protector you will know what I mean, just twice as hard.
Powered up first time but left side of keyboard numbers were not working and screen was a bit slow to respond. Stripped phone again to check digitzer cable connections and all were ok.
Flashed a calibration file found on this site and its working fine now. S-OFF and Super CID are required for this so best to do before you start.
Note: Dust was getting in both sides on mine and gathering in the centre. When I cleaned the LCD I noticed, under the heavy dust gathered in the centre, the screen was permanently marked. I guess screen was burned but it cant be seen when the screen is on.
Why would you go through all this trouble? This is covered by your HTC Guarantee.
I allready had the screen replaced one time because of dust. Second time because my phone got sunburned (see sig.) and because dust and now on my "new"device I'm seeing dust again. Getting really tired of it. Haven't had a 100% good phone for 1 day during the first of 2 years contract

Except HTC never fixes this problem. Everytime I sent my phone to them, they just keep cleaning out the dust, nut of course it fills up with dust in a matter of weeks again.
Bought another phone off eBay, haven't looked back since. No dust, no nothing.

I bought my Sensation used so I had no receipt. Would probably have to go back to stock, S-ON, be without phone for a few weeks etc which was just too much hassle.
Really wasn't too much trouble and it can be done in 20mins.
