Blue Tint Screen? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello,
So I got the HTC One X last week and the first one had a dead pixel so I swapped that one out. Depending on the day I go to the store, you see sometimes a nice lady is there or a mean lady is there. The store is Target Mobile. The mean lady I don't think has a blink of an idea of what cell phones are. She doesn't even know what a dead pixel is...
Anyways, so my new replacement phone seemed to be perfect, however starting from the bottom of the screen it has a visible blue tint and as you look at the screen from bottom to top, it seems to disappear. By this I mean the screen looks like a grayscale graph but instead it starts with a moderate blue tint and to an accurate white. It's actually really annoying when I'm typing in landscape mode beause the color differentations of the halves of the screen. Also, it seems like a piece inside the camera is loose because when I shake the phone there seems to be something inside moving. Also when I focus in the camera, it makes a physical click whenever I focus. So are these reasons enough to convince the sales rep to swap out my phone?
When I was changing my dead piexeled phone, she said " How do you know that it is defective. That may be the way the manufactuer makes it...
Anyways do you guys have any other counterpunchlines to use when she says stupid things like this?
Thank and sorry for this WOT.

I gave up looking for a phone without dead pixels. I tried to exchange my 2nd and two AT&T employees claimed that they couldn't see them. I almost wanted to tell them to get their eyes checked because I can see them at full arm length extension.
But screw it. I'm sick of wasting my time trying to find the perfect screen. I feel like the dead pixel epidemic is getting even worse with these super high res, high DPI screens.
From what you explained, I would exchange it. Is it obvious? If so it will be an easy exchange. Inspect the new phone carefully before agreeing to accept it.

I can see what appears to be a small fingerprint size bluish smudge in the upper right quarter of my screen. I actually only notice it on gray screens.
I keep telling myself it's not there in order to make myself believe it is truly the best phone ever.
So in an act of complete contrition, I'm going to rescind what I just said about the bluish smudge...
My screen is perfect... Hahahaha

Mine has exactly this in the middle of the screen. I can only see it in dark rooms when on a dark screen. It looks exactly like a finger smudge. I almost took it back at the 30 day mark, but was scared of getting one with dead pixels. so like you I convinced myself it wasn't there. It was, but now it isn't

I havent seen any blue tint or dead pixels on my One X

Lol "ignore it till it goes away"

Screen does not perfectly fit the unibody

Who got the same problem? I already swapped 3 times for a new HTC Desire S in the store. Today I got the 4th one. But still the same annoying problem. I can see that the screen doesn't perfectly fit on the unibody. I can also see the backlight shine through the border of the screen (at 3 spots) - so called light leak. The seller said that it's because of the unibody and the screen is pasted above the body (he suggested another phone because all the unibodies will have the same problem, but I like to stick with the Desire S).
I think I have to live with it, because all the 4 phones got the same fault.
Maybe you all should check the screen closely (the whole border).
If someone knows a solution, please let me know. I will wait a little bit, maybe I will put a bit of kit in the gaps...
Greetings,
Faraaz

Yeah could be. I also wanted the black version, but it wasn't available in the shops I went. I will ask if they can order a black one. I have 30 days return policy.

I have the black version and it has a small gap on the top of the screen...
So it has nothing to do with the color lol.
Nothing too obvious though....
my gray DS is okay, only little problem is with back cover...
xD well, so there are some good and some bad no matter color
I have sent an e-mail to HTC with the so called light leaked problem. I'm curious what the respond will be.

I've a black one and it has minimal gaps, such that I can see a tiny orange LED light leakage from the top of the screen edge and at the bottom right hand side I can see slight light leakage from the hard button backlights.
But these are only visible in a dark room after careful angling and rotating of the device...So ultimately, doesn't effect the operation of the phone, so doesn't bother me.
Black one here and never noticed anything wrong with the screen fit/build.
Is it just an aesthetic problem or does this cause issues with the phone operation?

Looking at it, I kinda see what you mean, but it doesn't bother me all that much. A thin black edge around the actual display on all sides, and if you tilt the phone you can sometimes see the light escaping from the soft buttons' backlights.
Doesn't bother me at all thankfully.
My girlfriend's wildfire S's screen mismatch however... that winds me up just being in the same ROOM as the damn thing.

Got a reply today. It is in dutch, but in short:
"HTC is not familiar with the issue. You got to send the phone for repair and then we will look at it".
I also put links of xda forum, android hilfe and google (search: light leak htc) in my message. But HTC pretends that they know nothing. It's ashame. No more HTC for me. The 4th HTC Desire S with problems is not right. It's not a low budget phone...

This unfortunately is a common problem but not that severe, it effects devices sold in many countries, although after your experience with that one shop I'd follow advice given and would try an alternative shop or try to possibly buy online.

I did this, got it back after 10 days. They hadn't done squat, it still leaks exactly the same as before.
And for the record, it's a black one.
I've had 3 Desire S's, all black. One of them was fine, the other has a slight leak. My current one is a little worse. Also noticed that the screen isn't aligned properly. Sending it back to the seller for a replacement soon. I think it's just a hit or miss thing.

Check your screen for dead/stuck (sub)pixels.

Ok, so I am on my second One X now and both have had more than 1 dead/stuck pixel. You probably have some too and just haven't noticed it yet. The easiest way to check is to set the brightness to max then set the background to full black (you can get dead pixel testers from the market). You will see small bright spots. Look closely and maybe you might have to tilt the phone to slight angles to catch the sub pixels.
One phone I have has 13 bad pixels and the other has 3. Terrible QC.
My second replacement device had a handful of buggy pixels. They would flash on certain backgrounds. Got my third replacement, and it is perfect. I have no intention of painstakingly examining for ones I can't see. If I can't see them I don't want to know about them.
Rabble rabble rabble.
If i have to do all that to notice them then I am not worried about it.

The thing is you will eventually notice them and then by then it might be too late to exchange it. It's not like setting the screen to max brightness and a solid black background is something that will never happen on your device...
I have only one. I can only see it if i look for it hard though at an angle. Not enough for me to go out and replace risking a worse one. But kinda discouraging... Still in my 30 to decide if to keep in general

I must have got lucky because my One X doesn't seem to have any dead or stuck pixels. I remember my PSP having multiple stuck pixels and that drove me crazy each time I used it because a couple were in the middle of the screen.

No dead pixels here. Like davis, I had a stuck pixel on my PSP and it drove me nuts (replacement screen i got for 40$ from hong kong so nbd) Theres a tiny scratch in the glass of my Captivate which holds skin oil and refracts different colors like a CRT screen would do. That is by far much more annoying to me.
I got my phone yesterday and didnt notice it then, but now I see a dead pixel right smack in the center of the screen. It only shows on much lighter backgrounds, but my eyes keep gravitating to it. I might have to get it replaced. I hate that because I have my phone completely how I want it set up right now.

exactly what i was thinking
I found one that I can see ONLY when I use a screen test app on black background in the top right corner...going to exchange it. It's free to do so...so why the hell not?
Wow. This thread had me worried, as I've not closely examined my display yet.
I used a dead pixel tester from the market. Set brightness to 100%. The app cycled through several colors, including black and white.
I have 0 dead\stuck pixels. What a relief
No dead pixels for me either!

Dude, I remember buying the original psp on launch from my local bestbuy, bought the extended warranty they offered for up to 2 years and took my psp back to them after a 1.5 years and switched for a brand new one. My problem was 2 dead pixels on the bottom of the screen.
I've got one dead pixel. Either that or it's a piece of dust. Prolly dust since it's grey and doesn't really light up. Luckily it's in the top left corner and I have a grey widget there. You can't really see it.
*looks for it*
Actually... I can't find it today. It was there before, I swear.
Maybe it was actually dust....

Checked the first day. Found none. Not going to be obsessively looking for one at this point. Had a little light bleed at the bottom, but i turned off the backlight on the capacitive buttons. I prefer it that way. Better reading/watching experience in dim environments.
Found one in the upper right corner. Impossible to notice unless I have a dark background present. Added with the fact that the screen is super high res its so small that I could care less.
I'm not going to risk receiving a phone with more problems for 1 dead pixel which I barely notice.

I'm on my 3rd (and final) One X but all three I've had haven't had any dead pixels.
Btw can someone post a picture of what the light bleed looks like? I'd like to know if mine has it but I don't know what to look for. Everything seems ok.

I'm just going to deal with it

Got a new HTC One X Rogers version.
One dead pixel.
Screen ripples with pressure on the side.
Small light bleeding at the bottom.
That's about it.
I bought it off someone. No returning it.
I'm going to try my best to deal with it, I mean who cares about the light bleed? I'm not staring at a black background in the dark all night so I won't see it much, the dead pixel is so tiny and somewhere where I won't notice it too often unless I look and I never regularly apply that much pressure when using my phone so the other issue is okay too. Phew... calm down. No need to resell it. Ugh.
Whatever this is a decent phone but HTC get your freaking QC together.

Every One X I've seen has that screen ripple when putting quite a bit of pressure on the sides/corners of the display
Okay that means all I'm really dealing with is the light leak (makes the bottom part of phone bright and a dead pixel.
For instance it's black but around the bottom there is globs of light that makes it slightly less black and more grey... light leak. Meh barely noticeable.
YES I CAN DEAL WITH IT A FREAKING DEAD PIXEL PHEW. I CAN DO IT.
I returned mine over a dead pixel, it also had light bleed but I was fine with that. My new one is flawless in every aspect.

Sigh... still trying to deal with it lol but this is really so disappointing...
The fact that HTC has such a great design but this phone is screwed up by the various issues because HTC doesn't have good QC.
Dead pixels
Wifi Issue
Screen Banding
Screen flickering
Screen rippling
Build Quality in general from creaking to glass problems
List goes on. Honestly I had a Galaxy Note before this.... 0 problems.

Haha Yeah, I'm quite pleased except with these two issues...
Galaxy Note was a bit too unpolished with TouchWiz 4.0 and I didn't want to brick it with flashing ROMs and I figured the Sense 4.0 would be smooth and I was right.
Stupid dead pixel. That's all that's bothering me right now because that's all that I can see ATM haha.
Naw it's sold ):
all i have is a little bit of light bleed from the bottom which from the looks of it most people have.
Ohh, dont push on the screen
I figured out my bleed at the bottom was actually light spilling from the capacitive buttons.. OP did you try a pixel fixer app? Worked on my nexus1 back in the day.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Probably same here for me too, capacitative button light leak. Meh :/ And I did but it doesn't seem to work. I assume it's stuck and not dead because it's white lights up?
Try rubbing it with a pencil eraser. Also, the Amaze suffers from light-bleed from the capacitive keys too, I'm sure a fix to turn them off will be out in time.

[Q] How many hox have you gone through?

So I am just wondering if I'm just have a run of bad luck. Bought my one x the release day. Few days later started seeing dead pixels all over the screen. Took it to att and they swap it out no problem.
Second one seem fine the first day but then I notice tons of light leakage like the screen wasnt in all the way around the bottom and right side. The screen would also wiggle and make a popping sound if I pressed on it on the bottem left corner, right corner, and top right corner. The plastic on the bottom would also move if I pressed it.
I happen to luck out and found an att close by that had one in (damn you apple). Now this one the screen is clicking even worse than the second one. If I wipe the screen off I can hear it clicking and popping with even the lightest pressure. Also have light leakage across the bottom again and what looks like single dots almost like a dead pixel even though there is no pixel by the buttons where light is shining through the black. I expect to have att replace this one also.
So I was just wondering am I have terrible luck or should I expect this from all hox? I love the device but really wont keep it if I keep getting shotty devices.
That's some pretty bad luck... Still on my first. No problems except for the tiniest bit of bleed on one side, and I cannot over emphasize tiny. Hope it stays that way too.
Still on first as well

You must have been on a streak of bad luck for your HOX...
I am currently on my second. The first one had a defect in the upper-right side (near the volume rocker and front-facing camera) where it would very loudly "creak" whenever I picked it up and/or was using it. And the screen/display in that area was "mushy" as I was able to be push the internal casing into the polycarbonate shell a few millimeters without hardly any force at all.
I bought it at Best Buy and when I brought it in I just asked IF it would be considered a defect and they suggested replacing it without me even asking. The second one I got is very solid in comparison to the issues from the first one but the volume rocker does "wiggle" a bit and the bottom (near the microphone) "creaks" but only if I apply direct pressure on it. I understand the nature of how the internal "frame" is placed into the "shell" so I don't think those are issues at all so I am very pleased with the build quality. Also, I keep it in a Otterbox Defender now so I don't even notice either issue at all.
This sucks that I'm having this luck but thanks for the feed back.

I agree that we can sometimes expect too much.
The One X is unique in it's design in that the "internal frame" that holds the display, screen, motherboard, battery, etc. actually "snaps" into the outer polycarbonate shell, not with screws like almost all other smartphones.
The "creak" that was coming from my first HOX was an undeniable defect, it was so loud the BB employees could hear it over all the crowd noise and it would do that just by handling it normally, not to mention the screen had way too much "give". The "creak" in my second HOX is probably just a "normal" side-effect of the design, as it is very faint and only happens when I try, and I have totally accepted that (as I have already mentioned I see it as a non-issue).
But to be honest, I don't think the consumer should just "accept" flaws and poor build quality, things should not "creak" or "wiggle" (that were never meant to) within a few days of use. Some people can deal with it but we should not have to, so if someone is unhappy with their product then they have every right to exchange it or return it.
I'm on my second, first one swapped for connection issues (had to toggle airplane mode for it to work any time I lost service or was in an area with poor reception)... Only to find out that my second does the exact same thing.. considering swapping again because 1.85 screwed it up even more.

I agree that often perfectionist and it's my downfall. I'm ok with the very small light leak I have on this one . But just touching my screen near top and hearing it "pop" just shouldn't happen and afraid it will get worse as time goes on. And seeing as I bought this phone out right I don't feel as if I'm being to unreasonable. I mean I must of traded in 20-35 iPhones in my time for even smaller defects. Going back to the iPhone 3g.

I have even dropped it about 5 times and it skidded about 10 feet each time. Still good as new. Actually the builded quality for me compared to the Sony phone is night and day. Sorry to hear about everyone bad luck. So far its been the best phone that I have owned.

ATT first vs second shipment

After reading many build and quality issues with the 1.73 original shipment handsets, I was wondering if people with the factory 1.85 second shipment handsets are seeing the same issues.
Personally I have a second shipment 1.85 handset and it is very well built, great on battery, no dead pixels on any color, rarely gets hotter than warm, very minimal light bleed on lower right corner on all black screen, no corners lifting up and running like a superstar with clean Rom 3.0(ran outstanding on factory 1.85 also).
Only issue I am having is the phone seems to take longer to charge than my inspire or vivid with real HTC charger. I have tried more than one. Not so long that I think there is an issue, just longer than I have experienced in the past.
Please post your experiences with 1.73 vs 1.85 handsets and maybe we can figure out what has been fixed on the production line so far.
Personally I think they definitely tweaked it and fixed some early build issues.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I had an original 1.73 and dropped it so I replaced it and got a 1.85 device. For me, they are both EXACTLY the same. Never had any issues on the first one.
I got a 1.85 One X about a week ago. Strangely, the box it arrived in was somewhat warm (for whatever reason), and the device was warm when I first took it out of the box, but I don't believe that's affected anything on the phone. Everything seems in good shape with this model; my only question is the light bleed you're referring to on the bottom right corner of the display. I think I have that too. When it's an all black display, or at least all black in the bottom right corner, it seems to be a little bit "brighter" in that area, so to speak. I also notice that the "stage light" arrangement for the backlit display on the bottom of the display (above the capacitive buttons) seems a little brighter in that bottom right corner. Sorry for the rambling, but is that what you're referring to?
On a side note, that "stage light" appearance of the backlights on the bottom of the display are supposed to be like that, according to an HTC Customer Representative. In case any of you were wondering lol.

4 of my HOXs had those "stage lights" as you call them, one didn't have them at all. The one that didn't have them had a really crappy screen that was all washed out and had yellowish whites. All the ones that did have them had vivid colors and bright white whites. Be happy your display is the one with the visible backlights, the other one sucks.

This one that I just got today *seems* perfect. I say seems because as history has taught me 4 times over, only time will tell.
I have a 1.73 and have had zero issues with build, the only issue I had was software (clock not updating time when on wifi and coming out of deep sleep)...which has not returned since the 1.85 update. I have rooted and unlocked bootloader and currently running cleanrom 3.0, standard...and DEV editions! It has never run hot, screen is flawless, and I am happy

I dont think having 1.85 on the phone qualify the device as second shipment. Maybe one of the many numbers on the box would indicate to this. My first was 1.73 but had a dead pixel, then my second was 1.85 and was about the same minus the dead pixel.

As long as the electron had a separating screen, faulty sim reader, terrible battery life and dust under the screen, or a bad vibration motor and overheating problems, then yeah, you're probably right.

i had my first one replaced at bestbuy for dead pixels. He took out a new one x and had dust under the screen. So he set that one aside and gave me another which over all is good. However when I push down on the screen I can see an ink looking blotch show up for a second. Kind of annoying.
Agreed -Does take longer to charge
But I love the battery life on the HOX running 1.85.
I've had mine a couple days before it released on AT&T officially and my co worker has a white One X from the second shipment and our battery life is identical. Give or take an hour or so but build is exactly the same. We do this for a living and are very particular about our devices. I actually swapped mine out twice until I got the perfect one -_-

So glad I DOA'd my phone. Battery life is much better. Haven't had any wifi issues anymore. And the vibrate motor doesn't rattle.
I can't tell the difference between the two build quality wise. I know that I battery life changes drastically from phone to phone. The grey one I had the battery was perfect. I thought it was getting too hot so I exchanged it. Boy do I wish I didn't. These replacements aren't coming close to that battery life. I'm doing all I can to get one that does and hey if AT&T wants to keep sending me replacements then I'll take em.
