I have lurked here for a while and read....a lot. When I decided to take the plunge, so to speak, I read some more. From rooting with SuperOneClick, to flashing my first kernel (sms-t959v-kj6-v0.1.1-rcc-unsigned-update) to get CWM, to my first ROM (VALHALLA.final), to my first theme (blue/transparent for Valhalla) to my current kernel (sms-kj6-v0.2.0), it has been entirely painless, flawless, even. Many thanks to all those who put in the effort to make it so simple for me. I will miss many, but Whitehawkx, bhundven, Tehgyb and DoeblerDan, my hat is off to you. Apologies to those I missed.
Now to my question. With the above configuration, any suggestions for further additions or modifications? I mostly use my phone for internet, SMS etc on T-Mobile. Oh, and gaming.

Another thing to consider is trying antonx's kernel. It has voodoo sound built in and all you have to do is install the free app from the play store.

I got antonx's kernel. Voodoo works great. Thanks, and to antonx as well. I'm trying to use tegrak, and plan to use the settings he posted for download. When I try to load the overlook module, I get a driver mismatch error-1. In tegrak, the driver version is listed as unknown. Ideas?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
If you installed his oc/uv kernel - use the free version of tegrak. You don't load the driver as is supported by the kernel.
I'm using -antsvx-v1.1.2 and the free version on Valhalla final. I thought I read in the thread that it supports Voodoo and oc/uv.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
OK. Self correcting. Tegrak only works with the no oc / uv version. Downloading now. Thanks.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
The free tegrak works with the oc/uc supported kernel. The paid tegrak app works without oc/uv kernel support. And with oc/uv kernel support there is no need to load the module.
OK, I need to start from scratch. Unless I made a mistake, I tried both kernels with the free version and got the same result. In both cases, I was prompted to load the module by the application. I'm going to delete both kernels and d/l again. Do I need to do any wipes between kernel flashes?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
Haha... apologies. I just realized I was talking about Voodoo Sound.
Use the paid version. AntonX's oc/uv kernel has preset values and he recommends using a different app with it. I use his non oc/uv kernel and have no problem loading the module. You need the paid version to set on boot.
I personally use Voltage Control.
You can get my recommended values in Hebrew Valhalla 2nd post.
P.S
Hebrew Valhalla is Valhalla Final with A.S, scrolling tweak and a few more candies. If you don't change locale to Hebrew it works on English. Actually I think most of this ROM users don't speak Hebrew...

So I'm running Heinz 57 6/22 release, with OTB kernel 1.6 and my voltage control app settings are not saving through a reboot.
I've tried clearing app data and re installing the app.

We had this issue with 1.6 when it first came out. Try appling for now. Then go back in and apply to boot three of four times and see if that works. That's what I had to do to get it to work. If that doesn't get it then might be a different issue

To the op. Nem said 1.6 would probably be the last froyo based kernel he does for otb sadly .
Now that the MT4GS is rooted, when are the custom ROMS coming out?
When is an overclocking kernel coming out? Are we waiting for HTC to release the source? For the time being, can we at least get a kernel module that will allow us to overclock?
That's the $1 million question. Shouldn't be long now...
I hope that when cm7 gets ported that they can do something to make the default camera app better.

Yeah, Ace tried his best but it seems like there was an incompatibility with the installer script he was using and our new version of CWM recovery. I hate waiting but I'm sure it won't be too long before there are custom ROMs or at least overclocked kernels for us to dink around with!
I just updated my friends SGS4G to stock 2.3.5 with voodoo lagfix. Still seems a tad laggy. When I had a Vibrant Team Whiskey made an awesome rom (Bionics-V) that had virtually no lag. What is the best custom rom out for the SGS4G to get rid of most of the lag?

First off, sent from your iPhone? Really? ...
Second, it depends on what you are looking for. Using a Froyo ROM is always a safe bet. Supposedly GB has better battery life though. But also if you are looking for a stock look, maybe ICBINB or AOSP is more your speed. The GB ROMs are pretty good these days, and with the source released they will only get better. Before I ran GB, I ran Bionix Frost with Bali UV, and it was great.
But, if you just want to get rid of lag, maybe just try something that will debloat you and flash the Bali kernel and stay Froyo.

you may also want to try flashing dsexton's adrenaline shot for the GS4G, it makes a difference. I'm running it on valhalla with good results. Or you can try a rom that is pre-tweeked, like Octane v3.0, or ICBINB KJ6 version.
And check what kind of SD cards are in your friend's phone. if they have an older/slower (like a class 2) SD card, it will slow some things down.

Hi Jules,
In order to use voodoo lagfix, you'll need to install one of the kernels that have that ability. I personally suggest using bhndven's
[KERNEL][UVKJ6][BETA3] Subtly Modified Stock with CWM5 + Voodoo Lagfix [12/19/2011]. Just follow the install instructions on his page. It's a great kernel, has the latest CWM (which fixes an issue with GB ROMs not being able to mount/unmount the /system partiton), root, and voodoo lagfix in it.
Once you've installed it, reboot into CWM recovery (either use an app like quick boot, or you have to power down the phone, hold down the volume up, volume down, & power keys, then release the power key after the "Galaxy S" screen gets a bit brighter), go to the voodoo menu, and ensure "voodoo lagfix" is enabled and "/system lagfix" is enabled.
As for the debloater (check my signature for the link), literally, go read FB's page about it. It takes you to a site, you select what you want to remove, it creates a .zip file you download, put it on your sdcard, then flash it from within CWM.
Tnx dude.

The link for bhundven's kernel installs CWM as part of the kernel. If you follow the instructions on his page you'll be fine. He writes good stuff
The only other way I know to install it on Gingerbread is to install one of drhonk's kernels in the dev section. Using the one I mentioned is easier & is the current version of CWM.

I actually had the same problem when I ran the 'ics" version of the v6 supercharger, but fortunately I didn't lose the data on my SD card. I just got stuck in a bootloop after it restarted so I just had to do a restore from my nand backup (thankfully I backed it up first : D ). Well It work on me, you have to follow every step on the script.
If it tells you to reboot even though you havent finish all do it, then come back to the
Script Manager and finish where you left of..
All of the services.jar that are posted on the guide are for different phones running different ics. I was looking for a patched services.jar file specifically made for cm9 for the g2x. That is all.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I'm able to run pretty much any CM9 services.jar on my milestone.
Try the THS CM9 - it's done by me and it's worked on alot of different devices.
That's the one I'm currently using but every time I reboot my phone initializes my apps and when it gets to the home screen an error pops up saying "select an application for the USB device. %1$s is not responding. Would you like to close it" Any ideas on fixing that zepp?
Edit- I was just pushing the services.jar file with root explorer. Then I cooked it into the rom and reflashed it and now no errors. Still says it breaking strict mode policy on boot up but no more USB connection errors.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
So it doesn't initialize the apps on boot anymore, right?
Yeah doing the permissions usually fixes that.
I'm not sure that I know what that strict mode policy error is tho.
It also seems that the text on buttons don't always say the correct word... so it would indeed be better if you had your rom's services.jar patched.
It doesn't initialize anymore but it does say the strict mode policy thing. And I tried to patch my services.jar for the cm9 selfkang3 rom but I cant seem to do it right. Is there anyway I can upload the file and you patch it for me?
