Where can I find a file to get multiple lock screen mods for Samsung captivate running official froyo ROM? If there is a file to flash using CWM recovery then please give the link here. Thanks

Ok, I googled the phrase "deodex android".
It looks like the 3rd result is a HOW-TO (it is titled that anyway). So I am off to read this! I'll let you know what happens later.
I still need to know if flashing this mod will wipeout my matted blue theme!

I said thanks because finally I know how to google hahahaha good one ..when there are multiple links on deodexing with creation/update dates going back to 2010 (when we didn't have official froyo) I don't take risk because not all ppl here in this forum are as smart as ppl like you!

it doesnt matter if its froyo or eclair, or what rom you are on....heck it almost doesnt matter what PHONE you are on. deodexing is the same process across the board

That I know / understand now! So, won't have that question anymore. In the adb shell command I see it is referring to ext3. I flashed voodoo lagfix injected kernel and somewhere I read it changes it to ext4 or something like that ..is it something I need to watch at least or it doesn't matter too! Also, do you know any other method to deodex? Like through a root app...

why go through all the trouble? just flash a custom rom like cognition....its just like stock with some mods like power button menu and lockscreens....

Yeah I agree with you! The cognition 4.1.1 has the same touchwiz UI..I mean pinch to preview screens and app drawer?

I'm a newbie on the board here, but anyway, I hear a lot of good things about changing the rom on your phone, but my question is what rom do I use? Can I use any custom samsung galaxy rom? Is there a difference?

Use roms only in the SGS4G Dev Section. Any others will brick.

Only things on the S 4G dev section can be used. Vibrant Roms will brick your phone.
Use Krylons CWM not Rom managers

Before you do anything.... if you brick your phone (e.g - bootloop, brick screen, etc.), DO NOT freak out. You will most likely be able to fix it. Just search for Odin and use that to get your phone back to normal.

Check out the Bible. I recommend you check out the Odin flashing guide, then pick out an Odin ROM from the Bible.
Once you have root, you can install CWM and then you can start trying out some of the CWM ROMs. Fun fun. Don't worry, if anything goes wrong you can always just post back. Don't forget to make a backup of anything you don't wanna lose (right now that'd be pretty much just your SD Card)

Yes check the bible. Definite must trys are whitehawks deodexed kd1, krylond bionix kd1, dr. honks bali kernel and in the market supercurio's voodoo conyrol. Also sextons ext4 and many more like robbitt, blkphoenix and others all have a bevel of goodies to make ur phone a kick a$$ beast! Most of all read. I suggest using google to search cuz xda always comes up, sometimes search app in forum produces mixed results. Happy tweaking ur phone!

ok so I'm carefully reading instructions on what to do, but aren't i supposed to backup my current rom (factory stock) and if so, maybe i'm not understanding correctly. How do i do this. I am looking at WhiskeyTeam and Odin's threads.

Boot into krylons clockwork mod final go to backup and restore and choose backup, and it will backup your rom

This is my first ever Samsung phone, and let me just say. It very different from HTC.
-infact this isnt even my phone, its my mom's. And its laggy like crazy.
Could you guys explain some things to me,
- voodoo
- "red" cwm
- modems (im guessing radios)
- ODIN
Or even better if you guys can just walk me through on how to flash this one certain rom link
I know i sound like a noob, and i agree that i am in terms of Samsung phones.
THe phone is already rooted, and its running Stock + Root
So could you guys please help me, T_Mobile wont, but i know the helpful XDA community will.

Follow the link above to get cwm final. Make sure you push the files to the correct spot as mentioned in the post. After that just download icbinb and flash through cwm. Before your flash make sure your mounts are like so
Unmount cache
Mount data
Mount sdcard
Unmount system
This is how the mounts should look before you flash and before rebooting after the flash. Hope this helps ya and good luck

one more question, what is meant when they say disable voodoo? Is that part of clockworkmod?

I've been looking for a guide to help flashing with CWM as I've never used it to do so. Only Odin3 .. I want to try and flash KG6...

With cwm final (orange cwm) there is no voodoo. But once you install the Bali kernel cwm will turn red and give you another option which is voodoo. Know to dissable voodoo you just need to navigate to voodoo once in cwm(red) and make sure it is dissabled. Youll see what everyone is talking about once you get a rom with Bali kernel or just flash Bali kernel with any froyo ROM.

Once again thanks my good man.
When i do install zip from sdcard it says "Can't mount /sdcard"
And i have the mounts all setup like u said, and the way the developer said...

I appreciate all your help.
Ive tried this multiple times with multiple sd cards. Not making a difference. I will look into to this issue still.
Till then im just stuck on stock........
I dont really like Samsung anymore. This was soo much easier on HTC phones, no ODIN, no Voodoo, none of that stuff.......

im going to odin one more time, see if that helps

Glad you got it. And just to give you the heads up it is rumored that kd1 has a bad system partition and has caused issues with other user myself included. I personally cant say that it is or if its just ghost in the machines but somtimes it ok and somtimes not. So I would recommend grabing the kc1 stock for Odin if you havent already.
Also if you plan on sticking with the sgs4g I would recommend checking out the sgs4g Bible in the developers section of our forum. I appreciate the thanks and happy modding

Well seeing as im a poor fella(as in not much money) this is how im trying to pay back the community for the great roms, mods and themes I use. Plus at one point we were all like wtf how do we do that? But its cool this is the only forum I visit or post on. Well this and rootzwiki. There is NOTHING you can do right now to get CM7. It doesn't exist for this phone regardless of what version you are currently on. It's just not there.

Why down Rom manger work for this phone...it even had my phone in its list...i even paid foe the premium one...wtf...?...and I've been in Google for hours reading...lol...is there any way i can download a Rom on my sd card...and flash it like that...that's how Rom manager does it...and what Rom can i use...?...do you need all my phone info...???

Step one, search for the gb starter pack, fbis251 was the op in that thread. follow it to the t.
Then, use odin to flash bhundvens kj6 kernel with voodoo and cwm
Now read around and learn to flash via cwm.
Lastly Install valhalla final either regular or black version (i like black imo)
Please, before you continue, and no I'm not discrediting you, i know this has been said before and i have no way to know if you have or not, but read all the stickies in our forums here, they really are helpful

And just because a phone it's listed as compatible, it don't mean that it's gonna work... I believe there is some work to get cm on this phone since only in November did Samsung release the source.

lol...one last question...when i use odin for flashing the bootloaders and kernel...there is 2 files in each one...and in both one file is a pit file and the other is a tar file...where in odin do i put them...on bootloader...pda...phone...?...thats where the instructions dont really tell you...lol...i should be good after this question...oh and the re-partion isnt checked...should i check it...?...thanks for putting up with my noob-ass questions...i think windows is so much easier then android...lol...till next time... ;-)

Why doesn't anyone say "Install valhalla final, valhalla black,""or AOSP Style"""
AOSP Style is a lot better and it has all the features as well as more than valhalla or valhalla black.
ALSO: CM7 is coming along.

I just rooted my phone yesterday and removed all the bloatware (big thanx to Lumin30)
Now I'm wondering if I can make it even snappier without flashing too much stuff on it.. since I'm too new to this business and would prefer having my phone mostly stock

Boat browser is the fastest I've used. DL from market.

If you have cwm installed. I'm assuming you do since you're rooted. Dsexten's adrenalin shot and the scroll mod can work wonders for making things snappy while maintaining a stock phone.

Moving to Q&A

For actual data speed, you can probably make it faster by leaving your phone on CDMA mode only (keeps you locked in 3G/4G). If left in Auto mode, it will revert to EDGE when you aren't using data.
I feel like it makes a noticeable difference, since your phone won't need to switch back and forth.
As for the actual speed of a browser, I've been using Dolphin since I got my phone. It's very snappy.

Flash ICBINB 2.3.7 from dsex its stock with all the tweaks included trust me its fast

Thanx.. can u please tell me a way to flash that... I'm new to this. My phone is rooted thru superoneclick.
I'm on stock gingerbread. I would love to be able to run that rom since it will free up a lot of system storage... is it glitchy at all?

It will be easy for you. First download SGS Kernel Flasher from the market.

It was somewhat clear... I appreciate u making that thread and taking ur time to answer but I'm still somewhat clouded... I need to install a kernel with vodoo lag fix before I install a rom.. when I go to the link of vodoo lag fix it says attention its still buggy and vodoo sound maybe coming soon... all of that is making me somewhat worried... but the rom flashing steps are confusing to me since I'm like a blind baby to this flashing stuff.

If you don't want to use the kernel then you can use KJ1. I haven't had a problem with the kernel. And when you flash the custom ROM it will have that same kernel -- just updated. You only flash that kernel to get CWM to flash the ROM. When you flash the ROM it comes with a kernel that will overwrite the kernel you flash with SGS.
And Voodoo sound is not the same as Voodoo lagfix.
You just need to follow the direction to get where you want. If you think some of the directions are clear... then tell me which one's and how. I will take a look at and see if I can make them clearer.

Check your mounts in mounts and storage and read the OP of ROM for correct mounts – U=Unmount / M=Mount. I had to change some coming fresh out of the box.
o Then choose 'install zip from sdcard', then 'choose zip from scard', then go to bottom, find ROM you copied over, select install and wait.
thats a lil confusing...
and to double check the first step:
all i have to do is download Subtly Modified Stock for T959V KJ6 v0.1.1-rc1 and flash that kernel with kernel flasher from the market? simple as that?

Yes on the kernel.
Don't worry about the mounts. I need to change that. The aroma installer will handle that for you now. What ROM are you going to flash?

ICBINB 2.3.7 since I read its mostly stock with no theming and is super fast and only uses 46mb internal space since it heavily debloated... would u recommend it?

Yes.
Go reread the guide. Take notes when you go through. PM me anything you think needs to change or be added. If you have flashed the kernel - just flash it - follow the directions to flash the ROM and you are good to go. Take note of the steps in the Aroma Installer you do and PM those also and I will add them to the guide. Aroma Installer is what you will see after you select install for the ROM.

Hopefully you noticed when I said reread the guide it is because I updated it. I am asking for your input as somebody fresh using the guide. I know what I am doing and it is easy to leave out the little steps when writing the guide that noobs may need. Hopefully you can help make it a better guide!

Hey Lumin.. so I did like u asked I believe u did miss a step.. I just installed quick boot.. did a back up... but from cwm recovery I don't know where to navigate to install the icbinb rom... it has a list.. back up.. reboot.. update zip file or something like that... etc which one do I chose? And do u need to extract the icbinb rom zip file? Or just put it like that in the root of my sd? Before that do I need to wipe anything? Thanx a lot again
