Nice, but may i say that in your future plans it says to change G to 4g? G is actually GPRS, which is a form of data lower than edge(2g). You probably meant to say HSPA+ to 4g, because HSPA+ is T-Mobile's form of "4G"

When you see G on the phone, it is because no 3G, or 2G signal is available, and the only signal available is GPRS, which has a data transfer rate of 56-114 kbps, which is definitely not 4G. T-Mobile's version of 4G, Which is HSPA+, on the G2x has a theoretical transfer rate of 21 mbps. I have never even seen the HSPA+ logo on any other ROM than complete stock, even though people are saying that CyanogenMod made a change to differentiate HSPA and HSPA+. What would be helpful to some people though, would be if you changed E to 2G, and H to 3G, Because more people are probably used to that, and personally i like that naming scheme better, it's less confusing.
(If you want to check out my source, I think your article was a general GPRS for all GSM communications, Here's what i used:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Packet_Radio_Service

Also, why does every MIUI rom remove gapps? Are gapps causing problems with MIUI? I'm new to MIUI so pardon my noob question.

Gapps not supppose to be in any rom, not even in cm7 due to copyright issue and some other issue i forgot.

Google only want the apps on released device they approved. Since cm7 or miui isn't approved for our phone we can't include them. On stock roms its OK since Google approved the use on Google apps on them.

I flashed the cm LG camera mod and it works flawlessly on this rom.
You just have to wait a bit for "media scanner " to finish its thing.

I confirm it to be like all the other miui roms with "invalid sim"... other then that its a pretty good miui rom.

Sorry.. I got that zip from this thread couple of days back. I don't know what source has been used to generate that file. I wonder if there was a released source for that, as it is LG custom camera.

[Q] HTC Thunderbolt Issues holding up CM7 Devs?

From what I can gather from forums and articles about the HTC Thunderbolt is it not been the greatest Dev friendly device. For example the signed boot loader which held up and caused issues with rooting is just one of many issues. Those I thought once that was cracked CM7 would be around the corner but obviously that is not the case. The OTA Update issues I speculated is slowing down th CM7 build as well.
So are the current issues with HTC Thunderbolt holding back production on a official or nightly build of CM7?(Security,4G LTE Chip Issues?)
Is their more than just signed bootloader holding back a solid version CM7(nightlies)?
Are the Devs focused on probably more efficient projects like Charge,Incredible 2, LG Revolution, Xperia Play and etc.?
Will we CM7 by the end of Summer or will this device fallen to the unofficial pile of CM7?
Same thing I just posted but in better wording, thanks....

None of the projects mentioned are worthwhile. We need the RIL for CM7.

The problem right now is the RIL. On older phones without 4G the RIL was somewhat universal and could be ported from phone to phone. Now we have to start over fresh and do the whole trial and error thing and program the entire RIL from scratch. Right now this is being done by Slayher and once he finishes the dev flood gates per se will just open up. Until then we have to wait on Slayher to finish it up.
Technically you can run any ROM on your Thunderbolt that you want the problem is is that you will have no radio's until the RIL is finished.
Just an FYI when he finishes this this can then be ported over to other 4G phones so it is a pretty major project that A LOT of people are relying on. A lot of pressure for one man who doesn't even get paid to do this.

What's RIL?
The TB was fully rooted with S-OFF in 2 days, wasn't any holdup at all.
The INC2 & Charge haven't even been fully rooted yet. So there is nothing "more efficient" about them.
Rule #1 of CyanogenMod is you don't ask for ETA's. The build that is out right now is actually very stable, with everything working the last time I tried it. End of summer is September, I think there will be a lot more than just an official version of CM7 out by then.

I knew one dev was working on it but did not know what cm7 project so difficult for the HTC Thunderbolt. Now I know and much thanks to slayher. Obviously like you stated this is more than just the HTC Thunderbolt but the blueprint to all 4G devices. Which 4G is growing fast and will soon be standard. Well I hope best for slayher and rest Devs.
Thanks for the info.
Patience grasshopper, you will get your AOSP goodies soon enough

Now that everyone understands the importance of the RIL I hope you know all also understand why Slayher does not want to release a half finished product. He wants it to be perfect for a long time down the road so that months later we won't here someone whining about how "incomplete" it is cause they picked up an earlier released version.
Let there be one version to rule them all that works flawlessly and doesn't need refining!

So why was the porting of CM7 so quick to hit the Evo 4G? Does it have an older RIL?

Wimax, Evo supposed "4g" and LTE, Verizons 4G is something completely different and on a new level. You can't even compare the 2 things and LTE is way more intricate.

I believe (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) the WiMax radio in the EVO 4G works in a different way then our LTE radio so they didn't really need to modify the RIL to much to get it to play nicely over 3G. The EVO 4G didnt get 4G on CyanogenMod for a few months after it was released, just 3G.

Same for LTE.
The pre-4G technology 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is often branded "4G", but the first LTE release does not fully comply with the IMT-Advanced requirements.
(came from wiki, wont let me post urls)
As CNET’s Marguerite Reardon writes, “To be legitimately considered a 4G technology by the ITU, the network technology is required by the agency to be IP-based and use orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM). The other main requirement is that the technology needs to support peak download speeds of 100Mbps. The current flavors of LTE and WiMax are not that fast. And neither is the technology T-Mobile is using, which is called HSPA+.”
(came from thetelecomblog)
Just google "is lte really 4g"
None of the current "4G" networks comply with the requirements. Verizon's is the closest, followed by Sprint and T-Mob brings up the rear of the false advertising train.
Wimax is also the "step up" from CDMA while LTE is the "step up " from gsm

I would say it more along the lines of WiMax is the half step up from CDMA while LTE is a full step up from GSM and CDMA.
Regardless, Slayher is doing a great job and I'm surprised CM7 has come as far as it has already. Starting to be stable enough to use it as my daily driver

wimax has little to do with either cdma or gsm though. It's basically just wifi on steroids.

what would be your suggested next move for better download speeds?

I read about all you guys downloading 2, 3, 4, and 5mbps. I average 1.5mbps
downloads (lets not even talk about upload speeds). The only way I see yall numbers if I am on wifi. I am in south La below New Orleans near the Gulf. I know I am not in the 4G area (yes we have 3G) but seems I should be getting better. Things I have tried and done. With all this changes and with stock phone/ROM my speeds have not changed. I am using the speedtest app for testing. I have tried different times and places etc...
Check with ATT and I am on the 4G plan
On the Gingerbeast ROM (have not tried any others)
Tried the Gingerbeast radio and ril
Tried the recommended ATT radio .06.06.30_M with recommended ril 2.2.0079HM
Tried the recommended ril for the ROSP ROM HTC-RIL 2.2.0018G with the ATT .06.06.30_M (currently running)
Also configure the APN for the recommended ATT phones (tweak the APN and added MediaNet
Well my speeds have not changes (if they did it is very minimal)
Just looking for any wisdom or suggestions as to what to try next. Maybe this is the best we can get down here also.....I dont know anyone that owns a Inspire to compare it to down here.
thanks
Call ATT and see if they're having tower issues in your area. They may be severely degraded.

CM Q&A

As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
I feel like I'm posting incorrectly here but this thread says CM Q&A so if i am I sincerely apologize but here goes nothing...
I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 RC1. Before i installed CM7 i did a wipe of data and cache.
The google navigation app works for about 2 or 3 minutes then loses gps signal. I have to exit navigation then bring it up again and it will immediately get a gps fix then disconnect after another 2-3 minutes. I have really searched around for a fix and i'm not even sure which one to try.
Below are the threads that i have found that may fix the issue. I don't believe they will since the problem isn't getting a fix which it does. It it just losing the fix after a brief period of time.
If i use MapQuest it works flawlessly. It just really bothers me that i can't get a stock app to work...
Which one is the most viable? If non of the threads below will help can you politely point me in the right direction?

This is how it works for me as well. Just toggle GPS off and back on while still in the navigation app. Should come back up and stay on from that point on.
Thanks for your responses guys...I wish there was another way rather than that. I guess it's a small inconvenience for what is my favorite rom.

There is a way to quick search the phonebook with the stock CM7 dialer, but there's an extra keystroke involved. While the dialer is up on the screen, just press the search button on the bottom right of your phone. Then you can quick search through your contacts.

Very low data speeds in CM7, what gives?
I'm new to android and to rooting. I understand that CM7 does not support 4G, but I'm not even seeing 3G speeds when I have it installed. My speed test results are averaging in the 0.4 - 0.5 mbps range down, and similar or some times better up.
On ANY other rom I see better speeds. I'd be ok with similar speeds to what I saw on my Iphone 3g, but when I tether right now on CM7 it makes me long for the good ole days of dial up. Seriously, I frequently see sub 56kbps speeds.
I WANT to use CM7. I love all the tweaks and features, but the data is so slow! Any suggestions to how I could fix this and get back to my 1.5 mbps 3G speeds?
Radio: 26.06.06.30
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0018G

Did you make sure the APN's are correct? There is a APN thread in the dev forum.. If you are in 4g area you should see faster speeds than 1.5Mb.. Iam in dallas and see 3.5Mb down 1.1Mb up.. Either way, make sure the APN settings are correct.
By chance has anyone's phone gotten laggy at random or where it'll temporarily hang/freeze in the later builds?

Something this severe hasn't happened to me yet. I might see a little sluggishness from time to time, but it doesn't cause the phone to hang or freeze.

+1 on one7dchevy's suggestion. CM7 works with HSPA+ / 4G just as well as any other ROM (I've seen speeds up to 6-7Mb/s), as long as you've got the right APN config. Link to the APN thread is in my sig - be careful though, the OP of that thread is a real jerk.
BTW the radio version you're using is just fine - and the RIL that comes with CM7 works fine with that radio.
Posted this question over in the CM forums but they seem to get alot less traffic than here. Figured I'd give it a shot.
Flashed this device a while back. Now it's randomly losing GSM signal, wifi is fine. When I attempt to scan for a network provider it just errors out.
It's a AT&T device, Inspire 4g
It's running: 7.0.3-DesireHD
baseband: 12.39.60.19P_26.06.04.06_M
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0099HM (Jan 27 2011, 16:12:49)
Having to swap to and from airplane mode every few hours to maintain signal is getting old. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily handset and I'm missing way to many calls. I've confirmed with my gf's captivate that it's not random network outages.
I even rolled back to an old nandroid backup where this didn't happen and it continues to happen.

[Q] Serendipity VII Infuse - 3G/H(4G)

Mike1 - Awesome ROM..Thank you.
2 Questions: Why does ROM toogle between 3G/H signal? Stock ROM connect to 4G(H).
Some download from MARKET would come up insufficient memory and fail to down load. Is there a fix? I reboot but still does not resolve.

Might want to flash a different rom. The dev for that one is jumping to a different phone. As you can see the latest version of serendipity is way over a month old. You will get better support from a dev/rom that is still fully supported.

Depending on the area your in, stock or custom, the phone will always toggle between the two. The stock rom just doesn't show it doing so. If you aren't in an area that has 4G, obviously your phone will take advantage of whatever is available.

I agree, but with GB so close, I'm sure we will get a boost in development with new roms to choose from..I wouldn't worry about an outdated rom, for now, S7 is great even if outdated. I mean its not like an Hdmi fix is gonna come till GB anyway lol
S7 Supports
WTF..I was looking forward to new update. Other ROM have alot issues.. Is there a recommenedation out there?

You're not really likely to see anything other than Hellraised I9000/Captivate ROMs until after AT&T Gingerbread drops.
So what if it hasn't been updated since initial release? It was created by Hellraising a highly refined and mature Captivate ROM. There's nowhere it really can go until we get official AT&T Gingerbread. At that point you'll likely be able to get nearly all of the benefits by flashing over another Hellraiser update.
I was originally going to try and do kernel development over UCKJ1 in order to backport some stuff to the Infuse Daily Driver series I've added to the GSII version, but it's looking like I may just return to S7 for that work. So when DD development resumes, S7 will likely be the ROM it's tested against until official AT&T GB hits.
I have run S7 off and on while trying to teach myself about ROM creation/modding, and S7 has always jumped back and forth for me in areas where I am right on the edge of good HSPA+ signal. It's fairly normal and if it's annoying you can always set your your phone to restrict to one network or the other.....but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd just be careful how much data you auto-sync if it switches a LOT as bad signal areas + background data can mean extra battery drain.

I guess since no one technically answered your questions I will.
1. Because S7 is true to what you are connected to, whether umts (3g) or hspa+ (H) and that fluctuates normally where ever you are. Stock ROM always said either H+ (at&t) or 4G (rogers) regardless of whether you were connected to "4G" or 3G.
2. It is a known bug with the new market and has nothing to do with the ROM.
S7 is in no way outdated ....it may be over a month old but that's because it works so damn good...plus Mikey has said he will do one final update when official gingerbread cones out.
Anything you would consider more up to date is using leak stuff from ucki3 or 4....which kinda sucks anyway...

About the only improvement I can think of right now for S7 would be integrating the camera library fixes into the download.
That's it... That and the TCP buffer fixes in the initramfs (which you can get just by flashing a newer kernel) are the only good things that came out of UCKI3/I4.

True....forgot about the camera files as I just pushed them myself...but it would definitely be easier if they were included..
As for the buffer fixes....you said newer kernels have it, does that include bedwa's newest one?

Quick question guys. I have the rogers infuse 4g unlocked and on another carrier that is 4g but never get 4g showing..it's always on 3g. I'm in a 4g zone so I don't know whats up. apn related? or is it because I'm unlocked and with another carrier?
Thanks for the help in advance
Not sure if its me or the ROM
I recently rooted and installed serendipity. Which I love and works great. Its been like a week...love it.
BUT i don't really normally make or receive alot of calls. I did read the part about your first call not having sound, tried the speaker toggle, all is well. While Im making calls. But I cant receive calls. lol
It makes a crazy sound then says "NO SERVICE" for several minutes. But everything else works great!
Now im not actually using AT&T im using H2O
Any help is appreciated

[Q] cm7 signal

I know there are already similar posts, but I have some slightly different questions,
1. Is there any way to get just hspa, or just get 3g?
2. I somtimes have full signal but nothing will load?
3. No matter if I am on edge, hspa, or 3g I get EXTREMELY slow speeds (I almost always have a full signal)
4. Is there a way to get get back on the regular (non MTD) roms?
THANK YOU!!!
Hello,
you should have explored the CM7 threads before posting, but yea, you can ODIN / heimdall with repartion with all the stock KJ6 files to flash to stock.
You may be in a bad area with slower 4g.(yes there is a difference)
when signal shows 3g, you are on 3g. There is no need to be on 4g while idle. When using increased data, "like downloading or xda app, IDK" you will switch to h, which is 4g.
The signal issue i guess is just a CM7 / stock issue, which may be solved with a full AOSP kernel that bhundven is working on. Honestly IDK. Just go into airplane mode and out. your signal should be fixed.

@airfluip1-
Would you mind posting a link or giving me the full instructions because I searched for it and couldn't find it? ...I think the mod might have removed it when he cleaned up the cm7 thread...
