From what I can gather from forums and articles about the HTC Thunderbolt is it not been the greatest Dev friendly device. For example the signed boot loader which held up and caused issues with rooting is just one of many issues. Those I thought once that was cracked CM7 would be around the corner but obviously that is not the case. The OTA Update issues I speculated is slowing down th CM7 build as well.
So are the current issues with HTC Thunderbolt holding back production on a official or nightly build of CM7?(Security,4G LTE Chip Issues?)
Is their more than just signed bootloader holding back a solid version CM7(nightlies)?
Are the Devs focused on probably more efficient projects like Charge,Incredible 2, LG Revolution, Xperia Play and etc.?
Will we CM7 by the end of Summer or will this device fallen to the unofficial pile of CM7?
Same thing I just posted but in better wording, thanks....

None of the projects mentioned are worthwhile. We need the RIL for CM7.

The problem right now is the RIL. On older phones without 4G the RIL was somewhat universal and could be ported from phone to phone. Now we have to start over fresh and do the whole trial and error thing and program the entire RIL from scratch. Right now this is being done by Slayher and once he finishes the dev flood gates per se will just open up. Until then we have to wait on Slayher to finish it up.
Technically you can run any ROM on your Thunderbolt that you want the problem is is that you will have no radio's until the RIL is finished.
Just an FYI when he finishes this this can then be ported over to other 4G phones so it is a pretty major project that A LOT of people are relying on. A lot of pressure for one man who doesn't even get paid to do this.

What's RIL?
The TB was fully rooted with S-OFF in 2 days, wasn't any holdup at all.
The INC2 & Charge haven't even been fully rooted yet. So there is nothing "more efficient" about them.
Rule #1 of CyanogenMod is you don't ask for ETA's. The build that is out right now is actually very stable, with everything working the last time I tried it. End of summer is September, I think there will be a lot more than just an official version of CM7 out by then.

I knew one dev was working on it but did not know what cm7 project so difficult for the HTC Thunderbolt. Now I know and much thanks to slayher. Obviously like you stated this is more than just the HTC Thunderbolt but the blueprint to all 4G devices. Which 4G is growing fast and will soon be standard. Well I hope best for slayher and rest Devs.
Thanks for the info.
Patience grasshopper, you will get your AOSP goodies soon enough

Now that everyone understands the importance of the RIL I hope you know all also understand why Slayher does not want to release a half finished product. He wants it to be perfect for a long time down the road so that months later we won't here someone whining about how "incomplete" it is cause they picked up an earlier released version.
Let there be one version to rule them all that works flawlessly and doesn't need refining!

So why was the porting of CM7 so quick to hit the Evo 4G? Does it have an older RIL?

Wimax, Evo supposed "4g" and LTE, Verizons 4G is something completely different and on a new level. You can't even compare the 2 things and LTE is way more intricate.

I believe (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) the WiMax radio in the EVO 4G works in a different way then our LTE radio so they didn't really need to modify the RIL to much to get it to play nicely over 3G. The EVO 4G didnt get 4G on CyanogenMod for a few months after it was released, just 3G.

Same for LTE.
The pre-4G technology 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is often branded "4G", but the first LTE release does not fully comply with the IMT-Advanced requirements.
(came from wiki, wont let me post urls)
As CNET’s Marguerite Reardon writes, “To be legitimately considered a 4G technology by the ITU, the network technology is required by the agency to be IP-based and use orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM). The other main requirement is that the technology needs to support peak download speeds of 100Mbps. The current flavors of LTE and WiMax are not that fast. And neither is the technology T-Mobile is using, which is called HSPA+.”
(came from thetelecomblog)
Just google "is lte really 4g"
None of the current "4G" networks comply with the requirements. Verizon's is the closest, followed by Sprint and T-Mob brings up the rear of the false advertising train.

I would say it more along the lines of WiMax is the half step up from CDMA while LTE is a full step up from GSM and CDMA.
Regardless, Slayher is doing a great job and I'm surprised CM7 has come as far as it has already. Starting to be stable enough to use it as my daily driver

wimax has little to do with either cdma or gsm though. It's basically just wifi on steroids.

for all of you saying to wait for a sense 3.5 sprint wimax phone to come out:
UPDATE! http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/27/sprints-lte-build-out-already-underway-new-4g-network-to-launc/
Sprint is officially moving to LTE most likely meaning there will not be a sense 3.5 wimax enabled phone released. So the excuse wait for a 4g wimax sense 3.5 phone can no longer be used. So now im challenging everyone to jump on this challenge and lets give the devs a little motivation! the donation doesnt matter anywhere form 1$-1000000$!

This is not going to happen, there isn't even a stable build yet. If you need 4g use a rom with 4g. Bounties are pointless and hinder any development. Everyone will be working alone until one finds the fixes.

I'm checking the leaks thread over @ Mobile Underground every day to see if/when Football posts one . . .
Once their is a device on Sprint that is manufactured by HTC that uses Wimax then it coups happen but until then I'm 99.5% sure it won't happen. If you look at all the ported roms that have 4g working they all are Sprint HTC devices.

Great Idea here but the point of the matter is that by time a team of devs figures out how to get 4G working or converting it from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 it will have been released on a new SPRINT device that is running 3.5. At that point in time the port to the EVO would be super easy.
The only concern with that theory is that SPRINT is moving to LTE, no longer WiMax in the coming years.

My opinion of curiousity, I don't think sprint will be going to LTE? Just saying cause that is a core network that was originated as a 4Generation, if anything everyone is riding on their's. LTE with verizon is just internet, for them to have the cellular on 4G is going to cost them heavy. 4G is backward compatible 3G cannot leap forward, sprint was forever on 3G with a 4G core?
Overall look with international devices whom not allowed in our country, HTC broke barriers and released what non of us have used regular. Video talk was in NZ(intl) 5yrs before us as I visited and there cellular networks had no boundries nor laws like U.S, we were limited my friends of what was allowed. Today who held on the longest and now becoming the strongest and giving Verizon a very good race, I am not saying this cause I am a customer but my knowledge of Networks. 5Gen is making it's way out of Canada, for info on wimax look up Clearwire who introduced wimax to all of us.
And for the bounty? I am in as always supportive to what great names in here have done from the past to the present, would it there was a place that can be collected at to save all the talk and no walk bs from happening. You can put my name in the OP for $10 before the new ports gets in or this would all be uncalled for.

just wanted to quote you and let you know sprint has already announced that they are shifting away from wimax 4g and are going to be working on releasing a LTE advanced network because of the dramatic differnces in speed of LTE compared to wimax. wimax is more comparable to atts hspa+ which if you do recall att just flipped the switch on their LTE network. also have you not noticed that sprint hasnt expanded wimax any in over the last six months???
to the OP this is a good idea i just dont see it happening. the devs would have to take sense 3.5 and strip it from its current base and then take a base that is WIMAX compatible and overlay/integrate sense 3.5 into that which while possible is a lot of work and from what ive seen the devs arent concerned with getting 4g working anytime soon until they have all the wrinkles and bugs out of their roms and have everything else working 100%

so now knowing this we have no way of getting the code for wimax if they are gonna switch to lte we should then inspire the devs on xda to start coding so that we can have it sooner im sorry i know most of you dont have 4g in your areas and dont care about it but im sure the other side that do have 4g want to use it especially with how sick the roms are already. i saw they do this for cyanogen when there was no 4g and i know with the bounty idea it inspired all devs to get to work, im just trying to give our devs a challenge with a reward.

...oh yeah, non-rooted phones because you know, that was stated in the OP how silly of me to not infer this. Like I said and my comment speaks for itself, whether or not we get ICS officially isn't the question, the beta is out, rooted phones will get it. If you or anyone likes ICS that much and needs it, consider getting a phone that will support it non-rooted or just root your inspire if it means that much. Again, another pointless thread about ICS. Nothing has changed, it is still the same information.
AT&T always ends life of a phone after 2-3 updates. They don't support phones for very long because they're more worried about making money from new phones. If they supported their old phones, they'd lose their precious money.

And I know this isn't the right place for it, but because I have no other posts I can't ask in development...
Have any of you guys found an Undervoltable Kernel that will work with ICS?
This really is gonna be a never ending issue. This will always be happening unless you get a nexus or euro unbranded version of the phone. As long as the carriers control the updates we may get one maybe two updates but that will be about it. This has always been and always will be the case

Still, what are the chances of a US Cellular ROM working on the Charge? We would still not have the RIL source, and the ICS build works fine otherwise.
Also, US cellular is known for using dated phones (for a much lower price, mind you). Their previous flagship was based off of the OG Atrix and Photon for AT&T and Sprint.

I would say very good. US cellular is CDMA like VZW is. From all accounts the phones are going to be the same.
The RIL source won't matter that much if we get totally working ICS radios now will it? Well it will for things like CM, but I am not thinking that way. I am think that this makes ICS stone cold done, not jellybean mind you, but just ICS.

The issue is that we aren't gonna get the radios. Google has flat out said that they legally can no longer release full source code on any CDMA phone.
assuming the aviator is as close to the charge....as the fascinate is to the mez/showcase then porting roms is pretty easy
just edits to apns, cdma carriers in system/etc, some build.prop edits and hacking up mms.apk and mmsprovisioning.apk (all of those just for sms/mms...rom will boot with data/calls as is)
since the aviator will get ics (under google's 18 months of updates) even if the charge doesnt, it should be pretty easy to port over
but really, i think the charge will get an ics update because i doubt samsung will spend a ton of money to make an update for a phone that might sell 1/20th as many units as the charge has (really little work on their end to make it compatible for the charge)
in fact id be surprised if the og sgs doesnt get ics now since the specs (screen and lte aside) are virtually identical from charge (which is essentially an lte og sgs)
now this coming from you makes me real happy......

Wasn't it reported that Samsung isn't going to update the og sgs due to memory limitations(read: since we can't/won't give you a stock ics update, we won't give you one at all).

Well there are forums for the wildfire s, CDMA hero and if you look around there are always other sites.
US Cellular is a 2nd class carrier in the US, no doubt, but that doesnt discount anything

i doubt you ll get more developers...the only really active samsung uscc devs were on the mesmerize (phidelt82 being best in class and he left and is on vzw now) and most of their work was just porting fascinate stuff to the mez/showcase before directly porting the roms was figured out (kinda sad it took so long to be figured out )

T-Mobile has had leaked ICS Roms for both HTC devices running Sense 3.0. The Sensation 4G, and Amaze 4G. Most people felt like the Amaze would never get the 3.6 Update. But now they have a leaked RUU, bloat and all. Now that a good number of Sense 3.0 devices have an ICS update. I think it's time for the Doubleshot to get a ICS update. The Gingerbread RUU was leaked before this phone came out. I'm sure Football will manage to get a leaked Rom. We have all the proper specs, and I know we have 1 Million plus ICS Update threads. But with all the new updates, come on. It's about time.
Fail Xo I posted in the wroung Section! Mods, please move this thread. I'm sick right now, didn't know what I did.

Our phone will literally rocket off for development
Ya... But I just don't see any signs that T-Mobile or HTC is going to release a ROM like that for our phone. Hopefully they do tho!
Typed by ---- oh wait! I'm schizophrenic!
Either way, we've been making stunning progress even without an official update.
Have you checked out the sticky on ICS configuration tree in the dev section?
That's some great progress
I encourage anyone who knows anything dev to pop in and see if they can help. It will make cooking roms much easier and also greatly increase our chances of CM support.

Undeadk9 was claiming that he knew a "level 3" tech support at T-Mobile who told him there would not be any ICS for MT4GS. I heard all that sort of crap back when I had a Moto Cliq and the MT3GS, some "friend" in "tech support" telling bullsh*t. No doubt there is a friend, but believing that friend has information that nobody else has is very unrealistic.
T-Mobile updated even the ancient original MyTouch from 1.6 all the way to Froyo 2.2. I don't see them completely abandoning this phone, especially since the hardware is so similar to their other models like the Amaze 4G and Sensation 4G. HTC would only need to incorporate the Genius system.

You just confirmed that you really don't know sh*t. EOL has no bearing on whether a phone receives an update. T-Mobile has updated many phones long after they went EOL in their system. The entire MyTouch lineup, including the original, got updated to Froyo within a few months of each other, LOOOOOOONG after they had all gone EOL.
And what's the crap about no development on this phone? You can't be taken seriously spewing crap like that. Look around, dude. Here and Virtuous are full of dev for this phone.

I have to interject here. STABLE ROMs? Are you insane?
I'm sorry but MMS and Bluetooth not working (to name a few of your "kinks") is a pretty f**king big deal. I would never call that stable.
And the closest to stable is DeSensed, which is ridiculous considering imitation widgets are GARBAGE in comparison.
Let's remember: Virtuous sets the standard for "stable". Period. Don't get me wrong, the developer community is great and I have appreciated them very much so over the years. But don't go branding their work to save your argument.
I hope that an official ICS update comes, but I doubt it. With the 3G slide, at least they kept telling everyone that an update was coming and it eventually came. Not the same case here.

Don't know what rom you are talking about MMS and Bluetooth, but Primadonna has MMS, Bluetooth and almost everything else working for me. The main feature it doesn't have is tethering, but Opengarden and Barnacle does the trick on that too...

I threw AOKP in the mix by mistake. Either way, you're missing the point. There are stable (DEFINE: something I can use daily, with features I won't miss - obviously that differs from person to person) ICS roms out there. And if something like autobrightness isn't working, and that's what got you in a hunch, then you need to stick to the stock rom. Honestly I could care less about little quibbles like that.
My point is 95% of what you would need, even on a daily basis is working. And for some roms, it's even more than that. That's pretty outstanding considering we don't even have an official kernel or update.
Honestly, this thread has spiraled into a pointless opinion thread.
I refrain from posting any further.
You may think what you wish
I keep seeing people on here saying "phones with sense 3.0". I hope yall realize that we don't even have a real version of Sense.. its a Rosie/Doubleshot version. I don't see HTC modifying/myTouching the new version of sense and ICS for the doubleshot.

Which is simply your uninformed and unknowing opinion, no more credible than anyone which differs. You claimed to have "inside information", which is pure bullsh*t.
I hope so. None of the custom ICS ROMs are stable, always several things missing or not working that prevent me from using it long term and those ROMs havent been updated in over a month.
Like I've said in several ics threads like this, the mytouch 4g will not receive ics.
Reason being, the mt4g has T-Mobile's sense version(my sense). For the mytouch 4g to be able to receive ics, T-Mobile would have to get rid of their mysense version of sense which they won't do on a T-Mobile specific device or HTC would have to create 2 versions of ics, one compatible with mytouch 4g's mysense and a regular ics for the rest of the devices.
You guys also gotta realize we didn't even receive a sense 3.0 update.
U all keep forgetting that HTC rebranded the phone in canada to the HTC Panache...
So its not only a MYSENSE Tmobile phone
so it is possible that other carriers in canada request that ICS gets on this phone
thats my 2 cents on this subject

Exactly, in Canada. If my memory serves me rights, they didn't even receive android 2.3.4.
But lets say he Canadian version of the mytouch receives ics, the US T-Mobile won't. Again same reason, panache=sense/T-Mobile mytouch 4g=mysense.
Any devs having any luck getting 4g to work on the ics roms? An outside chance or slim n none? Either way thanks.

It's not quite that easy, we don't have a kernel source for ics sense for the shift with working wimax in it.
Does it require a kernel source from an HTC WiMax phone upgraded to ICS first?
I like ICS, but I still use WiMax on my phone on a regular basis.

Actually, according to this post in the Deck ICS beta ROM thread, due to the similarities between the EVO Shift and the EVO Design, we might be able to have WiMax on ICS.

So I'm holding out for hope since I can't upgrade until December.

We will have a fully functioning ics rom, camera, 4G and all... The evo design just had a leaked ruu get released, the only major difference between the shift and the design is the shift is wvga resolutin and the design isn't... Same msm7630 SoC, same adreno 205 gpu and same camera (minus the f.f.c.)...

There doesn't seem to be much interest in the Shift ROMs these days

I didn't ask for any ETA. I wanted to know if the device had any hope of WiMAX ICS, as it hasn't had it for months. I didn't know if it was "coming" or not since WiMAX has been non-functional on all the Shift ICS ROMs to date. Also, I've been off contract since 2009 so I am getting ICS with working LTE June-ish if the Shift doesn't get a ROM with WiMAX
Just trying to plan ahead a little bit.
I heard that there was also a possibility of LTE on the shift since the radio theoretically supports it? I won't have LTE in my area for a while, but I'm curious as to whether it's still on the table.

There is no possible way for any WiMax phone to have LTE. Even though Clearwire is upgrading to LTE, none of the existing devices will support that capability. I've heard rumors of other WiMax devices that could be upgraded to LTE, but no one has ever given definitive proof that it's possible. I am a member at http://www.s4gru.com, and it has been discussed at many of the early chat sessions over there. It just isn't possible.
