I just realized that the SGS3 Touchwiz UX ported to our Notes is constantly running on background and eating the juices of our gadgets. When I returned back I've got considrably more power. So, for those of you that still running Touchwiz UX be prepared for shorter battery life.
true!
Only the dadelion LWP picked from TW UX had the same issue on mine, bringing lags and battery drain. When I went back to my classic picture wallpaper, I really felt the difference.
No such experience here. i was on kingdroid rom with tw5 ... battery was awesome.
There is some difference, may be placebo. I usually have 50% juice at eod but today i had over 60% using stock launcher.

Most importantly..the Ram usage is much higher with touch wiz..compared to other launchers..

If you actually check CPUSpy, it usually displays 1400Mhz & 200Mhz used when the phone is actually not touched. With APEX, it constantly shows Deep Sleep.
Somehow the Touchwix UX is waking the device up. It still goes to deep sleep, but it also does eat a bit more juice. That's my .2 cents.
maybe the "ripple" effect of the lwp is counted as a touch on the screen and keeps it up ?
I have noticed the problem too--battery life is taking a hit.Had 80% battery at 2am and when i woke up at 9:30-lo and behold-only a measly 20% remaining !
and that is w/o any kind of app running or wifi or BT or whatever
same problem
Friends!
I have also the same problem. After flashing SGS3 addons on kingdroid rom i have quick battery drain problem. How do i go back to old touchwiz from SGS3 Touchwiz UX ?

i tried Touchwiz UX package had Days.apk in it too
Saw in battery stats it was using about 9% so removed it from /system/app
Had to uninstall for same reason.

Well i didnt experienced it much, you can remove days.apk, do make a backup of old stock one
OP, on the contrary! I've been getting better battery overall, even with Franco's #5 clocked at 1.6 Ghz! (using Alba's DDLP8 Full Repack V2 ROM)
I can go through the day without touching the AC charger and moderate use! (I m at 10 hours 5 minutes with a little over 30% charge left!)
I liked it so much that I even stopped using Nova Premium or any other launcher!
Cheers!

Hi,
I'm currently on the Deck RC7 ROM, and loving the 2.3.3 gingerbread. I'm getting pretty good battery life, at around 14-15 hours of usage before charge, using Tiamat 3.3.4. I like the Go Launcher but I noticed that when I use it, I get around 8-9 hours, so I think it's causing battery drain. Thing is I can't tell from Spare Parts of from the About Battery screen.
I just wanted to ask to see if any one of you are using Go Launcher and seeing similar battery drain issues also.
Thank you.
I love the go launcher however it does kill the battery very fast.
Go launcher drains the battery on my x10 like a constant slurp of a straw and find I show the go launcher to friends for the wow phone factor then secretly switch to ADW or launcher pro to double my spare battery time. I don't use many widgets in go launcher either but maybe someone has found a solution.
I'm not having any battery problems with the go launcher. I actually have the set CPU to overclock to 1.1ghz and then 700mhz after i turn off the screen. It has saved my battery after heavy use. I'm doing a 30-day battery screenshot challenge as we speak with my buddy and I'm getting 17-18 hours average on moderate use. So far i see no battery drop in neither launcher pro, launcher 7 nor go launcher.
By moderate i mean 2000+ text messages and about 1gb of data per month

Just curious is it just me or does the Skyrocket have ****tier battery life running on ICS compared to it running on Gingerbread? Anyone else having battery problems. I've been running ICS on my I727r for 2 days now and the battery life is very questionable. Probably a battery stat reset will work :S

I've found my battery life better. I haven't put down my phone since, and the battery life is on par with GB with my phone in deep sleep in my pocket. Lol
I did do a battery stat wipe and drained it and recharged it to full.

Yeah, my battery went out pretty damn quick yesterday, but that could be because I've been fussing with my phone more than normal.
The first day of using ics my battery life was okay. The second day my battery life sucked. Why? Because I set up Facebook. Battery manager showed 10% use and I hadn't even checked it. Its the bloat!

Same, my i727r battery life is horrible since i flashed ICS.
I have noticed that my android system is pulling a lot of juice compared to GB. I made some changes today like freeze all the bloat + installed UCLC4 modem. And wiped battery stats + complete drain and discharge of the battery. Lets see if it get better after a few cycles.
My battery seems a lot better! Way way way better. 25 minutes of web and its still full!

Battery has been much better for me with ICS.
Freezing tons of bloat helps..
My battery life has been horrible on ICS but when I look at the battery thing, Face Unlock used 35% of my batter (when my batter was 5% left) o-o it takes THAT much?
My battery life is absolutely amazing with ICS.
I have the stock rom debloated completely, and a lot of junk is disabled. Coupled with turning off auto brightness and leaving data off when i don't use it, the battery just chugs along.
This morning I got in my car at 7 AM, started playing music full blast through the stereo for an hour. Got to class, played some temple run, approximately a half hour worth. 30 texts or so, one 1 minute phone call. (data was off the entire time, it keeps facebook from butting in from behind) My battery has literally only gone down 10%, and it's 1 PM
I'm in love.
Seems fine here, I usually have it plugged in but today am testing it without. The couple charge blips are from when I had to get some files off of it.
I froze a bunch of the AT&T bloatware, have had Wi-fi, BT, GPS enabled the entire time. Moderate/light use... I've attached some screens.
I'm running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567817 with the flashable ICS modem.
My battery has been horrible but it's only been a day for me and my signal has been fluctuating a lot on day one. It's stabilized now so we'll see after a few days of use. But right now it is horrible.
It seems mine is doing worse.
But I have been adding a lot of stuff since this is my first time rooting.
I am about to get a battery depleted(at 12% right now) and reset the battery statistics and install the OEM battery.

I thought there was a lot of debating over deleting the battery stats, i remember an article from a google programmer saying that it actually decreases battery performance...i personally stopped doing it a year ago and noticed a better batter experience, most of the time bad battery comes from a bad flash or apps that run in the backround and use location services
My battery life was horrible with ICS so im back to GB. At work with phone in pocket for 2hrs and was already down to 75% off killing battery and charging it fully next day. When I got home after 8hrs of work already at 50% and thats when its in sleep mode. Using it I would drain 1% every couple minutes definitly bloat. Might try new debloated ones but kinda skeptical since GB gives me amazing battery life.
Once the kernel source drops custom kernels will make all you guys stop crying your all used to optimized stuff not samsucks stuff lol give it time

Well condiering I have never reset them and did this first and only flash of the ICS leak, I'm hoping it helps out. We'll see what happens.
I have Juicedefender turning everything off while sleeping(set widgetlocker to deinied so when locked, widget locker stays active to be ready, and juicedefender see's that and turns off data)
On my 2100mAh nexus battery I barely got over a day(was getting 36-40 hours on GB)
Either way, I have two batteries so I'll deal with it until either an official ICS release or a new rom with better battery performance comes around.
I also have the nexus battery. Def have less battery life with this version of ics .
It could be the algorithm the use. At the start of the day is slowly draws down. As the day goes on it seems to drain faster

Actually, I have been having the Best battery life to date. I will post my list of APK's that I removed. I don't do FB or anything like that, so not sure if that is affecting it. Also, in a non LTE area. on the UCLA3 kernel, I was absolutely getting horrid battery life.
I live in an LTE area and I am getting almost a full day of use. Never got that with GB. I keep wanting to charge it, but I dont have to.
I do have Juice Defender running though, and it disables my data in 15 or 30 min intervals when the screen is locked. And I have SetCPU which limits the CPU to a max of 384 when the screen is locked.

***Just want to clarify this is Beans 6 discussed in this initial post***
Hey guys. Been a member for awhile now, but haven't posted much so can't post in Dev section. I've seen quite a bit of discussion in the Beans thread about clock speed and hot phones, so I thought I would create a quick thread to share my experience and observations.
Unfortunately at this time I'm not 100% sure about my initial observations since I didn't know what I was looking for at the time. But the basics are that Beans uses Imoseyon's Lean Kernel and it comes in clocked at 1900Mhz. The tricky bit was that at first on Beans, I was experiencing the behavior that my settings in SetCPU were not being respected. With clock set at 1512 Max it was still spending time at 1900.
So first thing I did was reflash the Kernel from Imoseyon's thread. Realized it was a test/beta kernel at that point, so was expecting it to not be completely perfect. Not exactly sure which version is in Beans 6, but once I reflashed 12.2, my setcpu setting seem to be respected. Until I plugged it in to charge. Then it once again jumped up to 1900. So I made a profile in setcpu for when on the charger and locked it down to a lower level and it's has stayed at the levels specified in setcpu since then.
Now I'm just using more battery that I want to be, but still have to track down whether is a kernel thing, an app thing, or a phone thing...guess I should have baselined the new phone before flashing...
Anyway, just updated to Beta v0.1 and will report back on my battery findings.
I had amazing battery life with beans. The thing you have to do for sure is lower the CPU. 1.9 is way to much and the phone runs extremely hot. I just started synergy 1.6 and battery script today. I'm going to compare my battery life tomorrow. I recall on beams r6 it took 3 hours of screen off time for me to even lose 1% battery!
The only thing I don't like about beans is the scrolling wallpaper..wish he'd give us a flash to remove it . Also sucks not being able to charge your phone while its off with the custom kernel.

While I'm hoping for better battery life, I'm not expecting anything like that 3 hrs of screen at 1% battery would equate to 100 hrs of battery lift with the screen on. No, I'm just wanting to get less that 1% an hour drain at idle. It bugs me when the phone drops so much at night. I never did a good test on Beans 6, but there were a couple of night where in a 7-8 hour period it dropped double digit percentages....up to 15%. But I also found later I was battling an occasional wakelock issue. So I wanted to wipe and flash and try again...
So, when Beans 7 dropped, I did just that. Loaded it up last night and forced myself not to restore apps until I got some baseline information.
The initial clocks in the kernel seem good... As an aside, I almost want to install Beans 6 again and see if the overclock happens initially or if it had something to do with restoring SetCPU with data from my previous phone... This time I restored App Only and clocks look good. Even when charging, no extra profile needed like with kernel Test 12.2.
Idle battery life with just a couple extra apps installed was acceptable. Lost 6-7% over 8.5 hours. I was thinking stock was better, but now that I think back on it, the only night I was pure stock I didn't get to bed until 3am. So it lost, I think, 4% in about 5 hours...So given my fuzzy memory on the numbers, probably about the same at idle, maybe a little bit better with Imoseyon's Beta 0.1 Kernel...
So I've restored apps now and will fuss over battery life and other stuff for a few days more and then settle down and just use the thing.
Final note. Beans 7 looks awesome. The 15 toggle and notification looks nicely polished. Gone is the little nagging issue of having trouble grabbing the notification bar. So thumbs up all the way around so far...:good::good:
Im on beans b7, currently running stock settings...my device is running at 30*c, and my battery life is at 23hrs @ 49%. 1.5hrs of screen on time.

Since you know you don't get a signal inside your school, you might as well turn off mobile data or even just airplane mode it while you're in there.
I agree, turn off the radio so you don't waste the battery. Maybe you can use something like Tasker to do it for you only when in class.

Tasker is very difficult to use. I have tried and failed. haha. but i found an app called autopilot that will basically do the same thing youre looking for. it will check for signal strength and enable airplane mode if its low. then recheck in intervals to see if it should turn airplane mode off.
Yeah. Idk why I dont already do that. Lol. But I do seem to get a little bit worse battery when using it. Not too bad but not like before

Just turn off data in school. You'll still be able to receive calls and texts without data. I'm using the Synergy JB R106 build and I'm getting decent battery life.

The cell standby is calculated incorrectly so don't worry about that. It's not really using up any battery.
For the exception where it's trying to locate the towers.
Anyways, i'm on CM10 latest night build and i'm getting awesome battery life, along with the VRL15 radio and RPM
I have "my profiles lite" it lets you set times you can have the airplane mode activate so if you have brakes at certain times it will come on at that time
I have used the app called NoBars, which puts the phone in airplane mode when it loses signal for a set amount of time. It then retries after another set amount of time. Sure, you don't restore the connection immediately after getting back to a signal, but it works pretty well overall.

Jellybean ROMs have all been worse on the battery life IME, so I am interested in seeing what the official JB stock will do. I have heard that part of project butter for Jellybean was to ramp the CPU to max upon touch interaction which could be a clue as to why it is worse.

i dont understand how people get days on end with the stock battery......I end up using about 25-30% every hour i'm using it with various battery hungry processes disabled. its easy to manipulate your battery screen to be on for many hours.
your screen on time is a better indicator of how your battery is performing.
all is dependent on settings o course though.
ya went back to synergy ics rom and its night and day my battery last forever on this ics rom with lean kernel at 1.7ghz compared to stock speeds on jb and this ics rom is SO smooth has google now so im not to worried about jb till they get battery life straightened out.
Loving CR4 and the battery.
It was asked how the battery is on CleanRom4... it's doing great! I don't have specific but let me say I use my phone all day for surfing XDA forums as well as standard apps/mms. Talk about 2 hours total daily for work. Even throw in some Netflix and I don't charge it except for every other day.

Hello,
I have owned a note 2 and 3 and quite a few Android phones before that. I know how to disable features running in the background to get good battery life out of them. My notes had amazing battery life.
I have applied the same settings to my note sm n915fy and the battery is pretty poor. As soon as I take it off charge it immediately drops to 99% then down to about 70 in 5 hours while I'm asleep. I have brightness to 25% with sync disabled, a jet black background and all Samsung features switched off. Saying that I still seem to get a lot if push notifications in the Background.
I bought this phone from someone and never doe a reset when I got it, I just made a google account up.
I have not rooted yet, I am waiting for more roms to appear before I consider this.
I would appreciate so etc help on this please.
Cheers.
I found 2 issues that were killing my battery: s-health and the unified daemon. I think UD is used to track location for the weather display on the edge screen. Anyway, disabling both of them gave me good battery life. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply.
I done a factory restore which seems to have helped a bit. I will try disabling UD to see if it helps more.
Cheers.
