JB leak battery life. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey how does this look for battery life guys? Any tips to make it better?
Btw, I get no signal inside school so 7 hours of that was little/no signal.
Devices:
Samsung Galaxy S3 - stock JB leak
HTC Incredible - JB Inc RC3

Since you know you don't get a signal inside your school, you might as well turn off mobile data or even just airplane mode it while you're in there.

I agree, turn off the radio so you don't waste the battery. Maybe you can use something like Tasker to do it for you only when in class.

Tasker is very difficult to use. I have tried and failed. haha. but i found an app called autopilot that will basically do the same thing youre looking for. it will check for signal strength and enable airplane mode if its low. then recheck in intervals to see if it should turn airplane mode off.

Yeah. Idk why I dont already do that. Lol. But I do seem to get a little bit worse battery when using it. Not too bad but not like before

Just turn off data in school. You'll still be able to receive calls and texts without data. I'm using the Synergy JB R106 build and I'm getting decent battery life.

The cell standby is calculated incorrectly so don't worry about that. It's not really using up any battery.
For the exception where it's trying to locate the towers.
Anyways, i'm on CM10 latest night build and i'm getting awesome battery life, along with the VRL15 radio and RPM

I have "my profiles lite" it lets you set times you can have the airplane mode activate so if you have brakes at certain times it will come on at that time

I have used the app called NoBars, which puts the phone in airplane mode when it loses signal for a set amount of time. It then retries after another set amount of time. Sure, you don't restore the connection immediately after getting back to a signal, but it works pretty well overall.

Jellybean ROMs have all been worse on the battery life IME, so I am interested in seeing what the official JB stock will do. I have heard that part of project butter for Jellybean was to ramp the CPU to max upon touch interaction which could be a clue as to why it is worse.

leak has a wakelock issue.. hopefully the next leak or ota will fix it.. but i still like me some jbtw lol

i dont understand how people get days on end with the stock battery......I end up using about 25-30% every hour i'm using it with various battery hungry processes disabled. Now I'm using an extended 4500 mah battery that I hate because it ruins the cosmetic appeal of the phone by making it look fat and heavy. I feel theres something I'm missing in all of this.......
I am not rooted before anyone asks what programs I use.

its easy to manipulate your battery screen to be on for many hours.
your screen on time is a better indicator of how your battery is performing.
all is dependent on settings o course though.

ya went back to synergy ics rom and its night and day my battery last forever on this ics rom with lean kernel at 1.7ghz compared to stock speeds on jb and this ics rom is SO smooth has google now so im not to worried about jb till they get battery life straightened out.

Loving CR4 and the battery.
It was asked how the battery is on CleanRom4... it's doing great! I don't have specific but let me say I use my phone all day for surfing XDA forums as well as standard apps/mms. Talk about 2 hours total daily for work. Even throw in some Netflix and I don't charge it except for every other day.
I would say that's great battery life.
:good:

Battery life is normally different from each person but similar results may happen

I'm on Synergy r111 and I get great battery life, 5 hrs average on screen time with brightness at 50% n newest radio n rpm. Before only used to average around 3 hrs. I even managed to get 6.5 hrs at one point.
Sent from my Secret Base in Outer Space

On I5 my battery life was 15hrs with 3hrs screen on. On J1 im at 20hrs, 2hrs screen on, 44% to go...both setup the exact same.

I've been satisfied with battery life on cleanrom le 3.5 thus far. I'm not a heavy user but I'll get 3 hours screen time easily. Tried going back to ICS after jb and I can't lol

What is best ROM for battery life?

Hello,
Anybody who flashed tons of different ROMs, can you comment which ROM provided best battery life for you. I'm not looking for absolute numbers but comparison of different ROMs as far as battery drain is corncerned for the same user.
Is less about the rom and more about the kernel and u/v u/c in my opinion...radio can have an effect too
Currently I am on coca-cola with dag's .3 kernel using the Gideon battery saver script.
I like using that on the quickwiz rom too

Ive been flashing a lot of roms the past week. I'm currently using [ROM][UXKJ2]Buoyancy v1.3.0||Rogers/AT&T||[1/25/12]
Deff the best so far. Very quick and it's been 11.5 hours and I'm at 57%! Kudos to jomeister15 and his team!
You are on ATT network and in LTE enabled zone?
Nexus had the best for me. I also hear Buoyancy is great as well. Sky ice cream sandwhich is what im running now but i charge my phone a lot. An update should be coming soon for battery life fixes on it though.
radio on or off?
I've been running TPC v3 on my 727R for about 2 weeks, with his oc startup script. My battery life wasn't so great until I decided to start turning off data while not using it. Made my battery life go through the roof.
From full charged, I was still at 69% 20 hours later. Mind you, I wasn't using it that much but even still.
Which leads me to wonder: are people actually turning radio off when not in use? Because with it on, I can't get anywhere near those numbers.
What will you be missing if background sync is off while screen is out? everything relying on push notifications will stop working or will be there some other noticeable changes?

I use skyICS and I get pretty good battery.
The pic is of my first battery cycle on skyICS, with pretty decent usage on it. The red little bit at the end is me trying to kill the battery. I had wifi on, data, sync, flashlight, and ran quadrant standard non-stop for about a 30 minutes.
I think a lot of it will depend on how you use the phone. As mentioned above, simply turning off data saves you a lot of power. Going into airplane mode saves even more. I lose almost nothing in airplane mode (I put it on at night). You can get an app in the market that will auto turn off settings for you if you're too lazy to do it yourself.

Anyone having crappy battery life with ICS?

Just curious is it just me or does the Skyrocket have ****tier battery life running on ICS compared to it running on Gingerbread? Anyone else having battery problems. I've been running ICS on my I727r for 2 days now and the battery life is very questionable. Probably a battery stat reset will work :S

Yeah, my battery went out pretty damn quick yesterday, but that could be because I've been fussing with my phone more than normal.
The first day of using ics my battery life was okay. The second day my battery life sucked. Why? Because I set up Facebook. Battery manager showed 10% use and I hadn't even checked it. Its the bloat!

Same, my i727r battery life is horrible since i flashed ICS.
I have noticed that my android system is pulling a lot of juice compared to GB. I made some changes today like freeze all the bloat + installed UCLC4 modem. And wiped battery stats + complete drain and discharge of the battery. Lets see if it get better after a few cycles.
My battery seems a lot better! Way way way better. 25 minutes of web and its still full!

Battery has been much better for me with ICS.
Freezing tons of bloat helps..
My battery life has been horrible on ICS but when I look at the battery thing, Face Unlock used 35% of my batter (when my batter was 5% left) o-o it takes THAT much?
My battery life is absolutely amazing with ICS.
I have the stock rom debloated completely, and a lot of junk is disabled. Coupled with turning off auto brightness and leaving data off when i don't use it, the battery just chugs along.
This morning I got in my car at 7 AM, started playing music full blast through the stereo for an hour. Got to class, played some temple run, approximately a half hour worth. 30 texts or so, one 1 minute phone call. (data was off the entire time, it keeps facebook from butting in from behind) My battery has literally only gone down 10%, and it's 1 PM
I'm in love.
Seems fine here, I usually have it plugged in but today am testing it without. The couple charge blips are from when I had to get some files off of it.
I froze a bunch of the AT&T bloatware, have had Wi-fi, BT, GPS enabled the entire time. Moderate/light use... I've attached some screens.
I'm running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567817 with the flashable ICS modem.
My battery has been horrible but it's only been a day for me and my signal has been fluctuating a lot on day one. It's stabilized now so we'll see after a few days of use. But right now it is horrible.
It seems mine is doing worse.
But I have been adding a lot of stuff since this is my first time rooting.
I am about to get a battery depleted(at 12% right now) and reset the battery statistics and install the OEM battery.

I thought there was a lot of debating over deleting the battery stats, i remember an article from a google programmer saying that it actually decreases battery performance...i personally stopped doing it a year ago and noticed a better batter experience, most of the time bad battery comes from a bad flash or apps that run in the backround and use location services
My battery life was horrible with ICS so im back to GB. At work with phone in pocket for 2hrs and was already down to 75% off killing battery and charging it fully next day. When I got home after 8hrs of work already at 50% and thats when its in sleep mode. Using it I would drain 1% every couple minutes definitly bloat. Might try new debloated ones but kinda skeptical since GB gives me amazing battery life.
Once the kernel source drops custom kernels will make all you guys stop crying your all used to optimized stuff not samsucks stuff lol give it time

Well condiering I have never reset them and did this first and only flash of the ICS leak, I'm hoping it helps out. We'll see what happens.
I have Juicedefender turning everything off while sleeping(set widgetlocker to deinied so when locked, widget locker stays active to be ready, and juicedefender see's that and turns off data)
On my 2100mAh nexus battery I barely got over a day(was getting 36-40 hours on GB)
Either way, I have two batteries so I'll deal with it until either an official ICS release or a new rom with better battery performance comes around.
I also have the nexus battery. Def have less battery life with this version of ics .
It could be the algorithm the use. At the start of the day is slowly draws down. As the day goes on it seems to drain faster
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
Actually, I have been having the Best battery life to date. I will post my list of APK's that I removed. I don't do FB or anything like that, so not sure if that is affecting it. Also, in a non LTE area. on the UCLA3 kernel, I was absolutely getting horrid battery life.
I live in an LTE area and I am getting almost a full day of use. Never got that with GB. I keep wanting to charge it, but I dont have to.
I do have Juice Defender running though, and it disables my data in 15 or 30 min intervals when the screen is locked. And I have SetCPU which limits the CPU to a max of 384 when the screen is locked.

[Q] Looking to get this for my fiancee - battery life on stock?

Looking to get this phone for my fiancee tomorrow and am curious what the battery life is for this device running on stock. (Non-rooted) I have my device (atrix) rooted and all tweaked up but I'd prefer to get her a phone that was just good on battery life out the box. If I don't have to mess with it any, the better and easier.
She uses it moderately: Mostly for browsing tumblr and facebook. Occasional internet browsing. A bunch of texts and sometimes a few phone calls. Can she go through an entire 8 hour day with this device not needing a charge?
Battery life sucks out of the box. She could probably make it the 8 hrs but definitely would have to plug it in after that. From my experience anyway... I came from iOS so it was never really a problem for me till I got the Skyrocket. Low battery life makes sense given the specs. But I recommend picking up the extended battery for the Galaxy Nexus. It just fits in the Skyrocket and gives it a small but noticeable boost. BTW Installing a custom ROM like AOKP or SkyICS makes a HUGE battery life difference. Hope it helps. Good luck!
I'd say at the least just root it and install Titanium Backup so you can freeze all the bloatware and it should be fine stock. Mine was stock for a long time and I would get 10 plus hours of moderate use.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA Premium App
As stated the battery out of the box leaves something to be desires but if u get the time and have the confidence to root then I would definitely flash SeanZ Sky ICS. I am using that now and as I type this I have 14 hrs battery used and 4 hrs of display on. 8% battery remaining. Can't complain whatsoever! As for rooting and flashing there isn't much to worry about now a days. Hard bricks are few and far between with many of them being the result of simple carelessness or flashing roms not intended for their phones. Even this can be fixed though with a $50 jtag repair. Soft bricks only require a flash back to stock in Odin and you are good to go. Sorry to go off on such a tangent lol I just couldn't stop typing. Anyways, battery life is ok but charging will be necessary on stock with medium to heavy use. Hope she enjoys the Skyrocket as much as everyone else here has.

You have 3 options:
Option #1 (Stock with extended battery)
Well if you want to remain stock, the best option is to stay on GB and buy the Galaxy Nexus Battery from a verizon store ($26). With GB and the extended battery and the usage mentioned, I am sure you can go 8 hrs and even more.
Option #2 (Custom ROM with stock battery)
If you are looking for a good ICS ROM, out of the ones the best in my opinion is the Sky ICS 4.2E (17ish update). I know there is an update like the 4.2F, but it did not run as smooth as 4.2E so I went back to 4.2E.
Sky ICS has a good battery life, the new features of ICS, few nice tweaks like an extended power menu, wake by using the volume rockers, and overall runs very smooth little or no bugs.
Option #3 (Best battery life)
Killer combo is Nexus Extended battery + SkyICS, you will get 14 hrs of battery life.
If you dont want to buy a battery, you can just be on Sky ICS (Option #2). Read some threads on how to install the clockworkmode recovery, make sure you make a nandroid backup of the stock GB before you flash the Sky ICS and you should be good.
When my SR came out the box , was on 2.3.6 battery life was amazing with moderate usage ... Many people don't know how to use a lithium rechargable batteries

Battery life with Jelly Bean very poor

I have to say there are lots of thing that went backwards in the Jelly Bean update, but battery life seems to be worst. With all location services off, all maps location repoting/history off, the idle drain in low cell signal areas is terrible. Way worse than ICS.
I don't see any abnormal processor usage or wake locks. I think this means the radio is to blame.
Damn am I tired of Samsung/Android updates adding new features but making some things worse. I tried to like Android and defend it. I can't do it anymore. It's sloppy and rushed. I hate it now.
I am running stock deodex BLK3 and have had no problems with battery drain. Actually I am getting better than I had on ICS.
Only things done to it are kinda crap mods and removing stock applications. I have GPS on about 50% of the day and hardly ever use wifi.
I'm on cleanrom 5.5.1 and battery life is very good I can easily make it through the day

On on stock with Apex launcher. I'm a moderate user (browser, calls etc) and I get 24 hours and still at 30%+ Most of the time I'm on wifi as our building does not have great interior reception.
IP, download Carat app and see what is draining the battery. I assume you already used BetterBatteryStats and there were no wakelocks? Check if there are any apps that are refreshing at short intervals. The battery drain issue should not be that drastic. From my experience, I was completely stock ICS (bloat and all) until the JB update. Right now I am unlocked, rooted and debloated but still stock - and battery life is only slightly worse (VZW remote diagnostics were also disabled). If nothing else works, then wipe/ODIN to stock and see if things are different then.

I think each battery usage is different. Making your screen turn off quicker will save battery, turning off GPS will help too. I would like to know if WiFi or 4G:LTE uses more battery because with an unlimited data plan I can work with it a lot easier one way or the other.
Anybody done any research or have an inkling for one or the other?
Wi-Fi uses less power 4G uses more power, that's a fact.

I had terrible batt life after updating to JB. On ICS i would get 1% loss each hour when idle, right after the update it was more like 10% each hour. I ended up reading thru tons of posts not only for sgs3 but other phones updating to JB and having batt problems. So i factory reset and formated the sd card then put my files back on it. Then i finally found a post where it was stated that if you have a lot of media either on phone or sd the system will have to index each file, for thumbnails, quicker pinch zoom in gallery etc. That kept my phone awake and killing the battery for a good 12+ hours after the update. Today it finally ended. I am now 24 hours off the charger with 89% batt remaining, making it about .4% discharge per hour. I know this wont solve everyone's problems with the battery drain but maybe it will help some. GL!
I see a big difference for me with the battery between ICS and Jellybean rom. I was on Bean's custom stock build 15 originally and with medium - med heavy use, I see about 15-20% remaining battery after 10+ hours of use. With the new Bean's jelly rom b7, I need to charge before 10 hours with the type of same usage. This morning, I saw a 12% drain in 20 minutes for checking facebook/instagram and some email.

That's not true. If you have good LTE coverage it uses less power than WiFi. I have confirmed this checking power consumption with Battery Monitor Widget Pro. I'm losing ~22 mV every 10 minutes with WiFi turned off and pretty good LTE coverage (-100 dBm) and ~28 mV with WiFi on. When there is poor coverage WiFi will be better choice of course.

With Wi-Fi the signal is right there no sharing with millions of ppl no searching for signal, with 4g you'll use more power.I've done test with both and my 4g is great but still Wi-Fi uses less examples 4g great signal maybe 12-18hrs battery moderate use...Wi-Fi 1 day 9 hrs same usage.you do the math

My Jelly Bean battery issues are very tied to cell signal level. At home today, with good signal (LTE -100 dbm), I see no idle drain issues with JB. Its just like ICS. However, this last week at work with poor signal (LTE -112 dbm), with JB I had terrible idle drain. In that exact same setting ICS had no issues.
I have a feeling the new radio is doing some hyper spastic searching for better towers now around -110 dbm, where it didnt used to. If my woes at work keep up I'll flash back to ICS radio.
I've gotten great battery also on ics whether on 4g or Wi-Fi that time really didn't matter,I loved the hd radio.but on jb the lk3 is ok I do get faster gps lock.

[Q] All the sudden can't get past 1 hour screen on time?

Hey guys, for whatever reason I cannot get past an hour to an hour and a half screen on time per charge. I used to be able to consistently get 3 but for whatever reason that no longer seems to be the case. I use CM 10.1, usually the official but sometimes mastamoon's build. Intially I thought my battery went bad but even after replacing it with a new one I've seen no real difference. I actually replaced the phone once as well but still to no avail. Any ideas?
What's eating most of your battery? Do you have Better Battery Stats it has more specific info on wakelocks.
If you have no significant wakelocks first thing I would try is a different ROM/kernel combo. TouchWiz roms generally get better battery life than AOSP.

I haven't checked this iteration of CM but usually it's screen on time eating most of it and wake-locks doesn't seem to be an issue. It just drains super fast, especially with even 5 minute phone calls. I'm in the middle of Cleveland so signal shouldn't be an issue. Although it is usually yellow on the graph.
I would definitely install BetterBatteryStats and see what that shows you. I only run AOSP roms and while battery life isn't great its nowhere near that bad.
I'm having the same issue. No big wake locks, my phone just dies really fast. Running latest AOKP nightly with latest KT747 kernel

So here are some pictures from my dreadful battery life. More to come. Anyone see anything? I'm not sure what deleted wake locks is.

So those were yesterday, here is today. Noticeably less talk time but I hit that magic 1hr screen on time.
The only thing I can get from that is your poor signal, it's simply destroying your battery. I don't see anything else that could be the problem besides a bad battery.

****ed up thing is I live in Cleveland and work down town yet sometimes this phone refuses to get signal. It's really frustrating that it's also killing my battery.

I also think it's mostly due to signal loss. You have an 8 hour no data connection. That entire time your phone is looking for a signal and killing your battery. I highly recommend trying to use a touchwiz rom, doesn't really matter which one. I used to use cm10 but it would drop my signal constantly. From my experience, touchwiz roms are much more stable when it comes to holding a phone signal.
There are some amazing devs who've made some cool aosp features and customizations built into touchwiz roms. Some highly customizable roms are goodness and hyperdrive. In my opinion, pair one of those with nova launcher and you'd get a very aosp like experience with the stability of touchwiz.
I also recently flashed the mb1 firmware, that's giving me slight increases in signal strength. Might just be a placebo affect, but I think it helps.

You might have to try a touchwiz Rom. My battery is at 77% after extensive use for an hour and 40 minutes.

I am having a similar issue with stock, verizon OS. There was a system update just a couple days ago through verizon, and I installed it, ever since then it's been horrible. My battery usage blames it on "Media Server" though. Not really sure if it's related, but wanted to let you know in case it might help someone trouble shoot. Also, I noticed that since the update, my 4G icon in the top is on at the same time as my Wifi icon, which previously was just one or the other depending on if I was connected to Wifi or not.

Just disable the caller id app and the 4G icon won't show up. Also I don't think you get my post as I said extensive meaning watching movies and playing games with out any screen off time all in an hour and 40 minutes the person who started this thread is on an AOSP ROM and is getting the same. The main difference is I still had 2/3 of battery life left while his battery is dying or dead. Right now I have been on this phone for 3 hours and have about 60% of battery life left. I don't have a media server problem and on a custom touchwiz ROM with a custom kernel.
Usually the ROM is not a factor, its one of two things 99% of the time,.
1. a rogue app, that won't stop looking for location or data or is just hung
2. Poor or lost signal and the phone keeps boosting power to stay attached or search for signal;

Edit: As many have pointed out by now,
It appears that you are not getting the best cell signal on your phone. From personal experience, I can tell you that bad reception takes a huge toll on battery life.
You could try switching modems/roms to see if that will solve your problem. In my experience, I have gotten better signal using a TouchWiz ROM. However, I do miss the lag-freeness of CM
