Go Launcher Battery Drain? - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

Hi,
I'm currently on the Deck RC7 ROM, and loving the 2.3.3 gingerbread. I'm getting pretty good battery life, at around 14-15 hours of usage before charge, using Tiamat 3.3.4. I like the Go Launcher but I noticed that when I use it, I get around 8-9 hours, so I think it's causing battery drain. Thing is I can't tell from Spare Parts of from the About Battery screen.
I just wanted to ask to see if any one of you are using Go Launcher and seeing similar battery drain issues also.
Thank you.

I love the go launcher however it does kill the battery very fast.
Go launcher drains the battery on my x10 like a constant slurp of a straw and find I show the go launcher to friends for the wow phone factor then secretly switch to ADW or launcher pro to double my spare battery time. I don't use many widgets in go launcher either but maybe someone has found a solution.

I'm not having any battery problems with the go launcher. I actually have the set CPU to overclock to 1.1ghz and then 700mhz after i turn off the screen. It has saved my battery after heavy use. I'm doing a 30-day battery screenshot challenge as we speak with my buddy and I'm getting 17-18 hours average on moderate use. So far i see no battery drop in neither launcher pro, launcher 7 nor go launcher.
By moderate i mean 2000+ text messages and about 1gb of data per month

Juice Defender... search on market, thank me later! I get 16-24+ hrs from a stock battery!

Terrible Battery life problem

I recently got a new lg g2x. Seems like an alright device (it's not the best out there, but it was free so it'll do). The only thing I can't stand it even with pretty low usage i'm getting around 12 hours of battery life max. With the same type of usage from the sensation I had before I would be getting around 24 hours or more.
Any one got any ideas of what to do? I'm currently on eaglesblood, I was on CM7 latest nightly before, and before that was stock. All battery life sucked though.
Any help would be appreciated. I did order a spare battery on ebay, that i'm hoping might do some good.

What happened to your Sensation?
Have you tried calibrating after flashing a new ROM? Personally, fitsnugly's CM7 Kang plus Faux's or Morfic's Trinity kernel has always given me really good battery life. Around 24 hours with average useage.
I'm returning it via American Express premium returns. By calibrate you mean?

Use the battery calibration app in the market after flashing new roms. If you can't figure out how to make your battery last longer, just buy an extended battery for like 12 dollars off ebay. Everybody has had good luck with them. There's a thread over it in the accessories portion of the g2x forum.

Alright, I already ordered a spare battery, but I'm not sure what else it could be. I'll post back after I get the battery and try calibrating it.
Just in case you may have overlooked this....turn your wifi off when not using it. Wifi burns goood.
My wifi is always off, although a few times when trying to turn it on when just flashing CM7 it resulted with not being able to turn it on due to some "error." A recent example of my battery drain is: Cell Standby 43%, Phone Idle 32%, Display 16%, Android System 11%.
Calibrating would be my advice. I get a good 24 hours of usage with CM7 with normal usage. I get 30+ with light usage, and this is with wifi set to never sleep.
Everyone that gets 16+ hours, do you have Data running all the time?
Data + Light Use = 8hr MAX
Juice Defender "Data Off" + Light Use = 14hrs MAX
Juice Defender "Data Off" + Medium USE = 8hrs
Only did a couple texting and my battery is at 35% already, and its only been 6 hours...
Battery Calibrate = Flash new rom > 100% > Calibrate > use and recharge for 3 days...

Did you check what is using battery? And if your phone is actually "sleeping" in battery info?
I'm running [ROM] [PORT] G2X SINGH UI v1.12.30 (MIUI + MODS)
Cell Standby 26%
Phone Idle 23%
Andriod System 17%
Telephony System 15%
FOTA Kill 7% << Don't know what that is
Launcher 6%
Voice Calls 5%
10017 4% << Don't know what that is
Everything else is 1%
How can I find out if my Phone "Actually Sleeping"?
If it's actually sleeping, then your phone would not have any activity under "awake" while the screen is off. Also currently I'm on 30 hours battery with 33% left.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
It show that it's was awake the whole time... the past 7 hours...
When I scroll down it show these that is on the whole time:
Launcher
Telephony Service on and off
Messaging
Facebook
Gmail
Email
Weird though, I have Juice Defender on Extreme.. so there isn't any data running until I enable it.
Well to find out if it's been awake the whole time you have to go in one more menu deeper. You can do that by pressing the graph in the battery stats.

i recently installed stock froyo (just rooted) and i actually get amazing battery life...not even running juice defender or anything and ive been using my phone quite frequently. data on and off throughout the day, near constant texting, approx 1hr worth of talk time and other miscellaneous activities and i still have 60% left of my battery...its been on for about 16hrs now

I'm looking in the graph, Awake is on the whole time. Then when I scroll down, these are the program is always on:
Launcher, Telephony Service, Messaging, Facebook, Gmail, Email, Maps
Well I just installed Advance Task Killer again.. even though alot of people said it doesn't work. I'm going to test that for the rest of the day.

I'm currently exploring which programs are preventing the phone to stay "asleep."
I freeze lots of programs I don't use, the only ones I see constantly active now are Google maps, Facebook, and the launcher (which I hope isn't one of the issues).
I froze the first 2 and I'll be doing tests today to see exactly what it is.
Do you guys use the default MIUI launcher?
Yeah I'm using the default MIUI launcher..
I also freezed MAP and FACEBOOK... see how that goes for the rest of the day.
Phone was off for about an hour straight, think I'm getting better "sleep" periods. Launcher activity is constantly blue.
I use the modified launcher with the extended settings. Only widget on it is fancy widget pro.
Going to see how well the phone fairs for the rest of the day.
EDIT:
Been doing research, apparently telocation causes a lot of battery drain, and alarm manager (although mine is almost always asleep).
I recently uninstalled fancy widget in hopes that launcher won't keep itself awake, and froze the telocation and no freeze or force close on anything.
I had a major battery issue with my last install of CM7 on a new G2X, what fixed it for me was enabling "use wireless networks" in location and security settings. I noticed something was odd when I ran speedtest and every time it would try to connect to servers in NY or NJ(I live in NC).....I'm not exactly sure what was going on, but enabling it fixed my battery life.

[Q] Horrible battery life on infuse

Can someone please help me with my horrible battery life on my infuse? I cant make it a whole day on my phone. I don't play games on it at all during the day because I work. The only thing I do is make calls and text. I had 100% battery this morning at 6:00am and it is now 1:30pm and I am down to 12%. I am running the latest version of catyrom on my phone and it was supposed to increase the battery life. My phone is less than a year old (probably only 6 months old if that) so the battery on it should not be shot. Any help would be awesome!
THANKS!

Should not be like that. All the uckl2 base ROM have very good battery life.
Try a reflash. I would go into cwm, wipe data, wrote cache, wipe dalvik, fix permission, go to mount, wipe system, data and cache. Re flash ...i would try Another uckl2 base ROM then go back to caty if battery seems better
Buy Juicedefender Ultimate, set it up whichever way works for you. I couldn't tell you about Catyrom and the JD AOSP helper compatibility.
Buy and set up SetCPU to downclock your CPU when your screen is off, and when your phone's charge goes under a certain amount. Change your governor to conservative, ondemand, or smartass. Those will help. You could try undervolting, but be wary of doing it too much.
Look at your battery useage history and work out your app issues from there.
A faster microSD card wouldn't hurt, class 4, 6, or 10 would be better than a class 2, if you're even using a microSD card. Faster read/write means less time reading/writing.
If you need even more power, you could always go to 2G networks if Catyrom allows you to use them. From my experience, it will interfere with speakers on other devices. I have ~8 pairs of speakers in my office, and the interference drives all my co-workers nuts.
And you could always carry a spare battery, which isn't the best of options, but it's a sure fire way to go on
Reduce the number of widgets you use, reduce the number of screens you have, remove redundancy in your apps, and turn off live wallpapers.
Turn off auto brightness, and set it down to lowest valuable that is useable, then bump it up just a bit more. Then set your timeout to something conservative such as 15 or 30seconds or 1 minute.

Thanks! I downloaded juicedefender and setcpu both. I had seen juicedefender in the market but was a little questionable about what it does. but I will see what and how good it does tomorrow. I have my phone charging right now so I will upload a pic of my battery life tomorrow around 3 so we can see how my phone is doing. When I looked at the battery usage when I plugged in my phone it was on for 7h 34m 24s on battery and when I plugged it in I had 6% battery. I really hope that this works. like I said all I do is text and call during the day.
Thanks again!

JuiceDefender, to put it shortly, will kill your data connection/wifi/gps automatically and will enable them again on a schedule.
Those won't interfere with your texting or calling, but it will interfere slightly with your MMS. You'll have to wait for data to be re-enabled to download pictures/videos.
You can set up a schedule for work to be on a more frequent basis than the one when you're not at work, and once you set the battery threshold and the "ignore on low battery" function, it will stop all schedules once the battery reaches that point.
It will re-enable data/wifi when you turn your screen on so you can use it.
That's about most of what it does and it does work very well.
If you'd like, you can get cheap spare batteries from ebay. They mostly ship from China so they take up to a month to get to you, but they're very inexpensive. I just got my 2200 mAh battery (it fits just like the stock one) and it's not even broken in yet. It's 2 PM where I am and I unplugged my phone at ~8. I'm still above 65%. I don't tend to have very restricted battery use like some folks, but I do look for ways to reduce the battery waste. Most of my stuff works when the phone is in idle/deep sleep. I haven't done much of anything today with the exception of a very few calls and a few texts, a little surfing, and I downloaded a CM7 update from the CM7 port's thread.
When it's been broken in it should do better. CM7 isn't as battery friendly as some other ROMs but I like it very much so far. I have been furiously debating whether or not to move to Zeus ROM, as it seems like the big boy's Infuse ROM right now but I can't tuck away CM7 just yet
EDIT: Another, probably very minor, battery saver would be to download and install Adfree. It reroutes all outbound requests for advertisements to the device itself, so those don't download data and you don't see ads. Instead of them possibly keeping your scheduled data connection on for longer while they download (or pumping up your data useage), they never go outbound because they don't require internet access once checked against the HOSTS file.
Also don't forget to do what qkster advised. Bad flashes do happen, and you could have just had a bad flash.

I have never gotten what I thought was decent battery life out of this phone... I work as a field tech so this phone is my office... Serendipity gave me the best battery life of any rom I've tried and I've tried several.
When I first got it I used Infused rom I would average 3 to 4 batteries a day. When I went GB roms that dropped drastically to 1-2... Serendipity would get me through the work day (8-10hrs) and home w/ a little to spare. Lately I have been bouncing back and forth between caty and zeus averaging 2+ batteries a day.
Might add I received my phone as a hand me down from someone at work. He only used it for a few weeks but kept it stock.
On any rooted ROM, i usually use tibu and delete buddy now, facebook, att, tether manager, devive update manager, etc..every possible background crap.
Every user is different, but with just calls and text, is not unusual for me to have 2-3 days before a charge.
Data sync and wifi off when not using data

You can also try following basic methods:-
1. Turn Off: GPS, WiFi, Screen Rotation, Bluetooth, APN, Vibration, Animation etc.
2. Minimum Screen Brightness Settings
3. Minimum Screen Timeout setting.
4. Dont install Widgets based apps on home-screen
5. Kill the un-necessary background apps from Task Manager.
6. Use black theme in apps.
Thanks

Something I've found helps a lot is rebooting every morning. I'm running Zeus and noticed that the first day after a reboot I get great battery life (light- to medium-use would leave the battery at 50% after 12 hours). By the second or third day, I'd barely make it through the day. Since I've started rebooting every morning my battery life has been great. I also used BetterBatteryStats to help figure out which apps were keeping my phone awake. I learned that the Stocks app runs in the background waking the phone regardless of settings. Juice Defender is really a waste of time - you'll get better battery life by figuring out what's killing your battery and getting rid of it than having Juice Defender disable all of your phone's features when the screen is off(while using battery itself).
Man your battery life shouldn't be that bad. If it isn't a bad ROM flash then you could have a bad battery. Sometimes batteries die after a few months.
I did a lot of testing for apps and whatnot to try and see if I could maximize battery life. I tried all the juice defender and similar apps and didn't really like how they were killing off my services when the screen was off.
I found out that the main killers of my battery life were specific apps. When I used email apps with IMAP push services I noticed that they would kill my battery because they kept preventing my device from sleeping. I sometimes need about 18 hours in a day before I can charge so I really wanted to maxmize the battery as much as I could. I monitor new apps when I install them. Some seem sneaky so the battery stats might say that the app is only using something like 4% but it is also making the Android OS keep alive and use a higher percentage. I have about 70 apps installed but deleted most of the apps that seemed to kill my battery. In an 18 hour day now it is common for me to have at least 50% or more battery left over. It did take me a while to get this kind of battery life though. I was getting pretty frustrated for a while.
I'm running stock GB 2.3.3 (Rogers) and I am on the Bell network in the Great White North.

SGS3 TouchWiz UX not battery friendly on our Note

I just realized that the SGS3 Touchwiz UX ported to our Notes is constantly running on background and eating the juices of our gadgets. When I returned back I've got considrably more power. So, for those of you that still running Touchwiz UX be prepared for shorter battery life.
true!
Only the dadelion LWP picked from TW UX had the same issue on mine, bringing lags and battery drain. When I went back to my classic picture wallpaper, I really felt the difference.
No such experience here. i was on kingdroid rom with tw5 ... battery was awesome.
There is some difference, may be placebo. I usually have 50% juice at eod but today i had over 60% using stock launcher.

Most importantly..the Ram usage is much higher with touch wiz..compared to other launchers..
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
If you actually check CPUSpy, it usually displays 1400Mhz & 200Mhz used when the phone is actually not touched. With APEX, it constantly shows Deep Sleep.
Somehow the Touchwix UX is waking the device up. It still goes to deep sleep, but it also does eat a bit more juice. That's my .2 cents.
maybe the "ripple" effect of the lwp is counted as a touch on the screen and keeps it up ?
I have noticed the problem too--battery life is taking a hit.Had 80% battery at 2am and when i woke up at 9:30-lo and behold-only a measly 20% remaining !
and that is w/o any kind of app running or wifi or BT or whatever
same problem
Friends!
I have also the same problem. After flashing SGS3 addons on kingdroid rom i have quick battery drain problem. How do i go back to old touchwiz from SGS3 Touchwiz UX ?

OP, on the contrary! I've been getting better battery overall, even with Franco's #5 clocked at 1.6 Ghz! (using Alba's DDLP8 Full Repack V2 ROM)
I can go through the day without touching the AC charger and moderate use! (I m at 10 hours 5 minutes with a little over 30% charge left!)
I liked it so much that I even stopped using Nova Premium or any other launcher!
Cheers!

Which launcher better for battery life?

I'm using Nova prime(paid for it) but how about Apex, Trebuchet and Holo HD?
I don't really need any functions or speed. I just want to know which one use smaller battery.

I recommend Apex launcher, I have used Go launcher EX all the time, and my battery drops 3-4 % over the night. With Apex it drops 0-1%.
I use launcher PRO on my Blade. Its a brilliant launcher imo.
In airplane mode the Blade drains around 1-2% a day(24h). And thats with a worn out battery and a device which isnt exactly famous for its battery life.
With wifi/radio on it drained ~10% a day.
On my TF101 Im using Nova launcher (free), and with wifi on + constant data traffic through it, it drains ~20% over night.

I think it's not the Nova fault because I also have a TF101. The wifi in 4.0.3 does drains many battery even in standby mode, you are right but it will simply happens with all other launcher. It can be solved if you could flash back 3.x but the wifi signal will be weaker, not as strong as in 4.0.3.
I never said I was displeased with the battery drain on the TF101, quite the opposite actually.
The wireless is working(sending/receiving data) all the time, so it never goes into "deep sleep".
I was using nova...now switched to apex....really cool...not eating ram also....

Android Battery Life Sucks!

Hello, I have an s2 and the battery life sucks, I am just wondering if it is normal or because I have a nova launcher skin with 2 or 3 small widgets. The battery depletes everyday. I wake up in the morning grab it and it starts at 100%, I check my email for 1 minute... still 100% then I quit the app in the task manager, then put it to sleep with no running apps. By the end of the school day (7:30 - 2:30) the phone is completely dead... Any suggestions?

Try deleting unwanted apps, lowering you're brightness, turning of WiFi and Bluetooth when unnecessary, and regularly killing unwanted applications. If you are rooted, change your voltage.
I heard that the s2 is known for decent battery so i think you just have two many things running at once.
Click thanks if I helped you out!

How's your signal during the day? Some of those buildings murder your bars, and a weak signal means your phone is trying harder. I've watched a battery drain on idle from this alone.
