If I get my sensation unlocked, would I be able to get AT&T 3g/4g?
Sent from my $40 Sensation XE with Beats Audio
it depends on what kind of sensation you got. only bell and telstra versions of the sensation will work with at&t 3/4g. all others you will only get 2g

Its the Sensation 4g TMO US... I tried my friends sim card and I only got edge with at&t

Unfortunately, with the T-Mobile Sensation, you can only get EDGE working on AT&T since AT&T uses different frequency bands than T-Mobile for 3G/4G.

I wonder if we can unlock all the bands. I'm imagining we could at least switch over to the other bands.

I think you're going to need to explain what you posted
well from what i can tell nothing new lol
its bell south firm i seen someone had trouble with new hboot so i changed it to 3.32 what we have and rezipped it but i dont have a att sim to test this with
but i dont see anything different but worth a shot seeing how i am going to att or simple mobile soon
modem and the like aren't included in ruu files. you'd have to dump those partitions and flash manually
what are the supported umts frequencies for the bell sensation? if someone wants to dump a bell sensation's modem partitions, i'm sure someone would be willing to flash, possibly myself included, although any sign of it "working" would be if i lost tmobile umts (assuming it's not a quad/pentaband umts modem).

I have searched everywhere and I am not sure if I can change the baseband (or if its doable at all) of my HTC Sensation to 850/1900. My carrier use those and I am stuck with a great phone but with 900/2100.
On a defy thread I found Fix_3g_850.1900Mhz-signed.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-944258.html) but I am not sure if it will work for a Sensation.
Thanks for your help...
As far as I know you can't change the baseband frequencies as it is dependent on hardware.

This.
You need the Bell Sensation for AT&T bands. It's hardware only.
Or the Telstra version.
Thanks for the replies. Yes, effectively, I just hang up with HTC and its Hardware based the baseband so no luck to ever fix this issue. Such a bummer, I love this phone but I'll have part away from it. Its only 3 weeks old.
Thanks again for all replies.

Doubt it logistically a bit of a pain...
thats too bad, seems much easier than trying to sell an out of region fone or hope for local trades of the same fone w/ diff bands
either way, hopefully you guys stick with the sensation in the long run

It's not out of region actually, I purchased it from HTC Thailand .. It's just my carrier decided to use 900MHz band for their 3G

why on earth would they sell you a Z710a? i even wonder why the HTC reseller would even have one in stock!
sup with that?
Because it is the official Thai model. All the other carriers work fine with it for 3G.. just AIS uses 900MHz. I bought it from a HTC shop not a carrier.
Still better than UK where we only got 900mhz 3g in January

I know this is an old thread but I am from thailand and I have the Z715e (Sensation XE supporting 900/2100 but would have liked 850MHZ). Moving from an iphone, which is quadband, i did not know there was an issue with frequency band and now I cannot use 3g on my network and am looking for some solution.
I see that Samsung Galaxy S and S2 also had this problem earlier regarding frequency band but with some internal unlock, they were able to use all bands. So, is there no similar way with the HTC Sensation XE or is it absolutely hardware only?? Would HTC invest in making two seperate radio ship for different phones?
Sincerely,
Ravit

Hello all as the title suggests I am wondering if flashing a european RUU to my T-Mobile Sensation 4G (USA), will disable the 4G access?. I came to this question because the European Sensation or the Sensation Z710e, doesn't have 4G capabilities. Thanks in advance for any answer
You mean, the non-TMOUS Sensations don't have the 4G branding. The capabilities are the same.

So my TMOUS Sensation 4G will still have 4G Capabilities when I switch to a Europe RUU, correct?. Just trying to clarify thank you btw
Hspa+ is tmos "4G" but it is not 4G in the true sense. It's more like 3.5G. t mobile 4G is purely a marketing term and means nothing as far as speed of the phone. It is the same as the european version in every way.
Can anyone help me. I unlocked the sensation for me to use with att. Everything is fine, rooted, s-off, cwm recover works, and so does everything else. Except data and mms. I googled the apns to use and that worked, somewhat. I now can recieve mms but data only gets up to 2g but roams a lot. Is there a way to get att 3g on this phone? I heard it was unable but just want to make sure

Yea when my cousin had it stock for tmobile everything was fine with it. 3g and 4g worked for him. Then when i started using it for att i had to put in custom apn which only allows me to reach 2g. I've seen a lot of people say its not compatible unless you have a certain version, my model is the tmobile htc sensation 4g...thats what it tells me in my phone settings.

So from what you're saying the phone has worked fully on both 3G & 4G on the TMobile network. Looking at the AT&T website their all their phones are either 3G or 4G. So it should work.
Does your AT&T contract support 3G ? I know when I got my first 3G enabled phone they had to ship me a 3G SIM card for it to work. It might be that it's the SIM card that's the issue. I've never had to modify APNs etc. even when swapping network providers away from Vodafone. Insert the new SIM and it just works.

Yea thats what im trying to understand. I read that there were two types of sensations, one from canada that supports att 3g, and the original which does not. But they said the model T-mobile sensation 4g, should support att 3g. Thats the thing im not understanding

Yea i had an Iphone 3gs with a 3g data plan. And everything ive seen posted with unlocked sensations all have the same problem with att. But ive seen that there is a version that supports att 3g which is what im trying to figure out
This post has the bands that the T-Mobile htc sensation 4g supports:
http://www.htc.com/us/products/sensation4g-tmobile#tech-specs
And this post says if it supports HSPA/UMTS/HSPA+ on 850 and 1900, it should support att 3g
http://androidforums.com/t/358106-unlocked-htc-sensation-4g-t-smart-phone-sim.html
The first post confirms that the phone supports both 850 and 1900 on HSPA+. All of this is new to me so if this is completely wrong then sorry. Just seems right to me.
It looks like the AT&T and T-Mobile networks are different, this is where I guess the issue is. The more I dug the worse it got. I have to admit that I'd assume this would be a simple answer but it looks like there are different flavours of 4G.
So apologies to the earlier poster that mentioned the frequencies.

T-Mobile US Sensation (Z710E) DOES NOT support anything higher than 2G on AT&T's networks because it doesn't operate on the proper 3G frequency. The Bell Sensation (Z710A) from Canada DOES work on AT&T 3G because its hardware uses the proper frequency.

Have you seen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349755
It refers to: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_sensation_4g-3922.php
As far as I know Bell Canada uses the same network frequencies as AT&T US.
Looking for a rom that is setup for art USA or if I can get some help setting this phone for use on the art network.
im pretty sure they all work on at&t. if it doesnt already have the APN detected and working, you can always enter it yourself. try arhd. cant go wrong
In case u didn't see it already, be aware the tmo-us sensation can't use ATT's 3/4G (3.5G?) network. I experimented with a buddy's att sim card and only got EDGE where his inspire got full bars of H+. I hear the Canadian sensation works great with att
Thanks for the info.. how come sensation can't use Matt 4g
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
oh right, your moving from tmo to att?
well if your using a tmo sensation, then you cant get 3g/4g speeds due to the phone/network different radio bands. to get 3g/4g on att you need a bell, telus, or telstra sensation i think
Ok so i have a htc sensation from telstra with the next G network logo on the back, random as question if i bought a 4g sim and put in my phone..would it work? or does it need new hardware?
I guess it depends if it'a a Z710a or a Z710e and then depends on which network you want to connect to.
For example in Europe all the phones are Z710e. In the US the can be Z710e (T-Mobile) or Z710a (AT&T).

Yeah its Z710e and probs telstra as it seems they have the only decent 4g network in Melbourne.
Have a look at: http://www.gsmnation.com/htc-sensation.html (or search for Z710a)
Put in the country and it "should" show the network compatibility.
Interesting, Z710e and Telstra != 3G compatibility.
Are you sure, as you said it's a Telstra phone, that it's not a Z710a.
Anyway look at that site, it might help a little.

Don't get too caught up in the 4G terminology (a.k.a. marketing bollocks), essentially it's all 3G (HSPA/HSPA+). You need to ensure that the phone z710e/Z710a works on 3G with your carrier, otherwise you'll just have EDGE and Voice only.
