[Q] TF101 Wont boot - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched this forum and other, but have not have not been able to find a solution to my problem. A while back I flashed a build of AOKP and rebooted just fine. I saw that a new version of CWM was out available to flash, so I immediately downloaded and flashed it. This was a mistake. Now, for some reason, I cannot boot in either CWM or my Rom. When I turn the power on it sits at the ASUS screen and when I try to get into recovery it displays the text and says to press vol +, which I do, and hangs at that point. Is there any way to flash a new recovery at that point or do I basically have a very expensive paperweight?

Hi.
You can use my nvflash/Wheelie to reflash CWM.
If you are unfamiliar with nvflash or Wheelie you can use my EasyFlasher tool.

[Q] Unable to boot G-Tab after updating ClockworkMod inside of ROM Manager.

I have a new G-Tab. I was able to install ClockworkMod and update to the latest version of TnT Lite without an issue.
I stupidly installed ROM Manager and allowed it to install the new ClockworkMod Recovery. I realize now that I should not have allowed it to do that, as cwm 0.8 works better than cwm 0.12.
Now, I am unable to boot my tablet, specifically every time I shut the tablet off it goes into APX mode.
I have installed the APX drivers, the NVidia Tegra SDK, and have used NVflash. Using NVflash I am able to flash back to stock. I have tried using NVflash to flash clockworkmod back to recovery. Despite this, whenever I reboot the tablet, I am right back into APX mode. The only way to get my tablet back to working is to flash back to stock and allow NVflash to boot directly into the stock image. Once I turn off the tablet, I am unable to do anything except run NVflash again to get myself back into stock TnT.
I did not use NVflash with anything other than "nvflash_gtablet_2010110500". I did not use --odmdata. I have tried both Power+Vol(-), Power+Vol(+), Power+both Vols. With any of these methods I am unable to tell any difference in the power state of the tablet. The NVflash batch file is able to reflash the device without issue.
The battery is fully charged and I did not flash without using AC power.
Please excuse my verbosity but I am trying to answer all possible questions and be as specific as possible.
I am unable to boot my GTab after updating ClockworkMod to the newest version through ROM Manager. I have tried every recovery method I have found, and am unable to do anything but boot the stock image. Once I power down the tablet, I am unable to do anything except flash the stock image again. What are your suggestions?
There is an option to install bekit08 from the ROM Manager I think. Down towards the bottom. Once you nvflash into the stock OS have you tried installing ROM manager and letting it reflash the 08 CWM?

You can nvflash the recovery.img from Bekit, just hold the Volume + when you push enter on your computer's keyboard.
ie...(recovery named bekit.img in this example)
have tablet attached via USB, have tablet in APX mode..
nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --download 9 bekit.img --go
press and hold Volume + on the tablet and immediately press ENTER on the computer to execute the above line.
This will push clockworkmod to the tablet and then boot into recovery. Use recovery to mount USB so you can copy whichever ROM you want to the device....
dismount USB, wipe system (factory reset option in recovery) then install ROM from sdcard.
When completed....and you reboot....of course it won't do anything...
So....while attached and in APX mode...
nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --download 9 bekit.img --go [ENTER]
This reflashes the recovery and boots the tablet.
Voila....VEGAn or TnT-lite installed. Configure, use....never reboot or power off.
If you must power off.....use nvflash to "force boot" the tablet again.
I have to do this on one of mine.

I will try this.
[Edit]
ROM Manager installed, but the only option now is Advent Vega. I understand they are similar but I am not going to try flashing the Advent Vega CM image, especially considering I don't think it will fix the issue. (I have no problem flashing CMW, I can just never get into recovery.) Thank you for the suggestion though!
[Edit #2]
I tried it anyways, despite my reasoning against it. I had options to change to CMW 2.5.1.0, 2.5.1.1, 2.5.1.3, 2.5.1.4 (curiously no 2.5.1.2, which is what caused this all). I was unable to change to these other CMW recoveries, it gave me an error.

This is exactly the symptoms I'm experiencing. That's disappointing. I hope the latest two posts or so end up working!
Are you able to boot into the version of CWM that was installed?
My suggestion....if it's within the return period of wherever you purchased.....take it back and swap it out.

Yessir, these are the words I was expecting to hear. Gonna do that today...
I believe this is easier
I had issues with mine when I first started as well. I found that by using my sd card and renaming the sdcard in the "command" file I was able to recover. I still have issues but I am able to recover. I also still rely heavily on nvflash but I can install crm without forcing it. I am also able to use the power option on the device.

No Recovery, garbled screen, can I recover?

I rooted my TF101 model B80 using RazorClaw (nvflash is a no-go for this model). Installed CWM, all was well. I tried to install Prime ROM from CWM, and was unimpressed; tried to restore my Nandroid backup of original rooted OS. Now, Transformer will not boot into any recovery (neither CWM or original green android), and screen comes up garbled. Is there any way I can restore my original stock by merely putting a particular image on my external sd card?
Any other suggestions welcome, I just can't get to a screen (recovery or otherwise) where there is any readable text I can respond to. Nor can I turn the device off. It will continue to reboot in this fashion. When I get home today I'll be able to start from a dead battery.
Thanks
Did you wipe before restore?

Yes, I did a full wipe including dalvik cache before all restores. At this point, though, my primary concern is just finding a path back to usability!

I had the same situation..I used the unbrick method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429
then you could try restore a backup ..
To turn off the device press the power button for 10-15 seconds..

I can try this when I get home today.... I'm just concerned because the method involves nvflash .... which I thought didn't work from the newer TF models (I have a model B80). I needed to wait for the RazorClaw exploit because previous attempts at using nvflash failed....
Then NVFlash will fail still...

Sounds like this problem

Being you can't get back into CWM not sure how you'll flash the stock kernel.
HAve you tried Holding Vol Down button plus Power button till you get prompt to enter recovery at which time immediately push Vol up button withion 5 sec.

OK .... my bad.... I guess I wasn't pressing the buttons in the right sequence/duration. I CAN get to CWM!
So, once again, I try to restore the Nandroid backup and after rebooting, end up with the screen situation as in the reference you provided.
So, I am assuming my Nandroid backup is not restoring the kernel that it needs. I was running a recent OTA update; I believe the version was 8.6.5.19.
Where can I get the appropriate kernel to install from CWM? Does it matter in what order I install the kernel and the Nandroid backup?

Same issue, no recovery though
Hi,
I have the same issue as the original poster, B80 serial, RazorClaw root. However, when I boot to recovery I get the green android with yellow triangle and exclamation mark.
I need to restore a recovery on my device as I may need to unroot to send to Asus. I have an even deeper problem of having to have the device connected to power for it to turn on after shut down.
However my main question is for that serial number and root method, what is the best way to flash a recovery on my device (stock or CWM) if I can not get into recovery to begin with?
P.S. RecoveryInstaller will not work, after installing the apk, I click the flash recovery button, the system holds for a bit, then nothing happens.
I will continue to search the forms for some answers, any insights or direction will be appreciated.
I can get into apx mode.
Thank you community!
I think you can flash the recovery via the staging partition. Search around the TF section, it's in here somewhere. Although, I wonder why the 1 click recovery didn't work?

Everything I see in the forms requires one of several conditions which my TF doesn't currently meet.
1. Recovery. I can not go into any recovery, thus I can not perform any flashing of any other rom or recovery.
2. B70 or later. Because of the security in the boot for these new serials, I can not use the NVFlash tools to un-brick / flash.
I am already rooted, however I do not know the reason for lack of recovery on this device. I unfortunately bought it yesterday from Craigslist, so not sure what this guy did before I got it.
I searched for flashing recovery staging partition and did not find anything immediately relevant. Please advice is there is a different wording I should use in my search as I am now getting an immense download on all of this trying to figure out what to do. I am also fairly new to Android devices having 1 other phone that is rooted.
Thank you for all the support and quick response! wonderful community here.
Try searching for posts with /dev/block/mmcblk0p4
This is particularly dangerous because you don't have access to nvflash. If you get bootloops, it is bricked. You have to be sure that whatever you flash will be 100% compatible with what you have now.
Also, when you try to boot into recovery, what does the text at the top say? There should be a version number in there somewhere.

Thank you gee one. I have since been able to install clockworkmod. My issue with the power not turning on if not plugged in still persists, I have started a separate thread.
I found your post on the staging partition here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309949&highlight=power
Do you recommend this for the issue still persisting?
If so, considering I am on 8.6.5.19 will I have to use the blob from that? It is not on Asus website as I got it from the firmware update option in the settings before loading up my new ROM.
Do you recommend this step as the only resolution or is there another way?
Ok let me get this straight:
You have clockworkmod installed. Can you boot into it and do the buttons work?
Are you getting a garbled screen when you boot into the rom? Or are you just trying to unroot?
The tricky part is to avoid the bootloops of death.
sent from my cyanogen(mod) vision
Honestly what i would do if i were you, assuming i understood correctly that you can get into clockworkmod, just reflash the prime rom you didnt like(after wiping everything, including cache and dalvik), and if it boots and everythings okay, at least you know nothings really wrong with ur tablet. As for the plug in situation, make sure your battery isnt simply dead. As far as i know, it wont charge from recovery, so if uve been stuck without a booting rom for a while, it being dead could definitely be possible. Once you are in a working rom and you sorted out the charging issue, then you should worry about getting back to stock.
Thank you camaros,
I am able to load stock ROM successfully.
Battery is not dead as it is fully charged, and will run un tethered after powerup. I will test resetting it although I doubt that is causing it.
What i would like to determine is, is this related to a hardware or software issue?
Also, is there a way to restore stock recovery from CWM?

recovery boot issues - red triangle, then reboot

I'm having issues getting recovery to work on a Verizon version xoom. I first flashed CWM version 4.0.0.4. The first time I tried to boot into it, it was stuck on the android with the red triangle for a long time before finally getting into it (coincidentally when I was hitting the volume key, don't know if that's related). Anyway, since then I haven't been able to get into it. It will be suck on the red triangle screen for a minute or two before rebooting into the stock rom (I'm running stock ICS). Since then, I've tried flashing the new TWRP 2.2.2 or whatever version it is and it has no effect. It's still doing the same thing. Any clue what's wrong?
So what I'm reading is suggesting that the android guy I'm seeing is the stock recovery. I'm not sure how that's happening. I'm installing the recovery using fastboot on my PC and being in the bootloader on my xoom. The prompts on both appear to confirm success.
I haven't tried this yet as I'm at work, but I think I've got the issue sorted. The following is what appears to be happening from what I've read.
1. I've still got the custom recovery stalled. When the Android guy pops up, one needs to press volume up to enter the options. Otherwise, it reboots.
2. The recovery flashes are taking because I'm booting back into the rom after a flash. The system's built in recovery protection is re-flashing the original recovery at that point.
3. To make my CWM/TWRP/whatever flash stick, I'll need to power down and then boot directly into the recovery.
I'll post again tonight to say if this works. Hopefully this thread can help out others who have the same issue.

[Q] Not Bricked but wont boot recovery

Good afternoon
So, since last night I have been attempting to install CyanogenMod onto my TF300T to no avail. I've been following the directions on their site to the T but I've run into an issue...
I've flashed ClockworkMOD using Fastboot, and that works fine, all successful...
...the problem arises when I attempt to boot into recovery...
I boot up into fastboot the way I'm supposed to (vol. down and power) and then select RCK (to load the recovery kernel) It pops up with "Booting Recovery kernel image" and then everything just stops...
no more flashing icons, nothing changes, it just sits there doing nothing. Now I know I may be an impatient person, but I selected the option and then left it alone while I took a 2 hour nap and when I awoke it was still just sitting there!
Some may try to tell me it's the recovery mod I used, but I tried both ClockworkMOD and the Teamwindows one too...both did the same thing...what is wrong here?
Well cm10.1 and cm10.2 both only now support 4.2 bootloader so if your on a 4.2 rom. You can only use twrp and I'd your on 4.1 bootloader that's why the rooms don't work.
Sent from inside my mkv.

Possibly bricked trying to update to CM11

A couple of months back, I had unlocked the bootloader (I had stock 4.2.1) and rooted this tablet in order to put Cyanogenmod on it. The current version was CM10.2 (nightlies). I was able to update to different nightly versions and then to the stable 10.2 version. Recently, I saw CM11 nightly versions beginning to appear, so I thought I'd install it.
Using TWRP 2.6.1.0, I had been able to do all of my CM10.2 updating. However, with CM11, the initial flash didn't work (I did clear cache and Dalvik), and so I thought I had to update TWRP. I downloaded TWRP 2.6.3.0 for the TF300T (both .img and .blob) and tried to fastboot them to my device. .img did not work, but then the blob fastboot was able to install TWRP, however, there was a password lock. Reading about this online, I thought I just had to reflash TWRP 2.6.3.0. I tried that and got the same password issue.
Then, I thought that CWM would be a better option (although I thought I may have seen things about it not playing well with the 4.2.1 bootloader...). I flashed a version of that (not exactly sure what version... (which may be the source of my problem) but it was for the TF300T...). Then, upon rebooting, it got stuck on the ASUS loading screen (with "The Device is UnLocked." in the corner). So then I tried rebooting into the recovery, but then I couldn't access the recovery menu from power + vol. down buttons anymore.
Basically, what I can do now is restart the tablet (via holding the power button or pressing the reset slot), but it always gets stuck on the ASUS screen, or I can enter APX mode, but don't think that'll do much good since I don't have nvFlash installed...
Is my tablet bricked?
Thanks in advance!
PS - I saw some solutions that required opening up the tablet. I would be okay with doing that, but only as a last resort!

Try using fastboot to install this version of TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48512729&postcount=16
It will only work if you were on 10.6.1.15 or above. It allows flashing CM11.

The thing is, I can't get into fastboot the typical way; pressing power and volume down does not go into the fastboot mode like it did before. I can get into APX mode, though. Can I use that to flash a recovery? I haven't been able to find a way of doing that yet…

No, you need nvflash backups to use APX mode. Since you can't get to the recovery menu, I can't think of any other solutions....?
Same here
I'm in the same state after trying to update from 10.2 to 11. Just sits at the ASUS logo screen. No fastboot or recovery. I can get it to turn off by holding the up volume and inserting a paper clip into the reset switch hole. Otherwise I have been totally unsuccessful in getting it to do anything else. At this point I'm not adverse to opening it up. Do you have the link to the solution you found that required opening the tablet? Maybe I'll give it a try.

You would have to open it and replace the motherboard with a new one like this:
