Keyboard issue! - T-Mobile LG G2x

I am having a problem with my keyboard. I will have the browser open and Google or some similar site with a text input box. I tap on it and start typing and in the middle of what I am typing, it jumps to the next box. It's really annoying! Its the stock browser. I haven't noticed this on opera or dolphin "yet" because I don't use them much. Will need to test them as well.
Anyone else having this issue or is it just me?

Look at the keyboard when you're there, is there another box next to space? Don't press that, its like the tab key or something.

Yep +1
Looks like a little line and arrow it will act like the tab key and I do it all the time too lol
Pin it to Win it.

No lol I done even have a tab key on my keyboard. It only happens when I hold my phone sideways. Never when its vertical.
Here is what my keyboard looks like when I'm using the browser. No tab key!

This one is when I'm using the xda app. Still no tab key. Only an enter key. The equivalent of go.

I think it only comes up in certain scenarios I couldn't tell you when tho... weird issue... must be the phone gremlins hehe
Pin it to Win it.

I know it happens when there is are multiple search bars or text entry places, like after you search and get results, then try to edit your search and it'll appear.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

I have had this phone for close to a year and I have never seen a tab button lol It usually happens in the Google search bar. I guess because I'm always using Google. I think its just "my" phone man! I could be wrong though. Maybe it is the phone gremlins after all?!
It usually happens in between words when I touch the space button. Only in landscape mode though.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

The key right next to the space is what I'm talking about, that's about the only thing that'll cause this type of action. well once again xda doesn't like the screenshot I try to post, hold on.
looks like what I attached even though that is a Samsung keyboard, I couldn't get the screenshot of my keyboard to work and I'm being lazy from my bed haha.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

Wow man this is the first I have ever seen that damn key.... EVER! I fell so dumb lol
I guess I was hitting it when I was try to hit space.
So is there a way to disable it? A file I can edit the key out of or some similar way?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

I knew it was the culprit haha. I have no clue, I'll look into it in the morning though. Guess is alternate keyboard will be needed.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

I had convinced myself that there was no tab button and that y'all must have thought I was dumb or something. I guess maybe I am after all haha
Seriously though, I found out that I must edit the keylayouts in /system/usr/keychars & /system/use/keylayout. One is a binary file. I would need to convert it from bin to kcm and vice versa.
Ill give it a go on my Linux box tonight.

You have no idea. It happens all the time! One time it kept happening and everytime I would try and scroll to the top my thumb would hit it again.... I ended up chucking the phone against the wall and screaming at it to stop lol I'm a pretty mellow guy too!
Its because of the way I type though. I flip my phone horizontally, and use both thumbs to type 4738 words a minute.
So, I had my first go at editing the binary file and reconverted it back then replace the existing. Keys 2-9 stopped working.
I took out the tab line completely. I guess that screwed something up. Ideas? Suggestions? Round 2 in a little.
I could post the bin file in ASCII format if needed.

Hahaha well I guess if it caused that much frustration its worth fixing ... you could try "ics keyboard" as well off the market it works pretty good I used to use it but I have never thrown the phone cause of the stock one so I will stick with it lol

Yeah, I got lazy and bored and gave up after the first binary tweak. Now that you and Mtg3 have made me aware, I am being careful. Now, at least I know the cause too. That helps! I'm running CM7, don't think an ICS KB will work on my phone. As for after market KB.... I am a paranoid guy when it comes to computers. What my phone essentially is, a miniturized computer. There is so much malware in the market and its only getting worse! So downloading an after market KB would bug me out 24/7.

This will help you recover from a true birck
true brick = phone will not power up, no leds lighting up. Your phone trully dose nothing
Ive used this method 3 times so far and have been able to recover. I can not GUARANTEE this will work 100% of the time. My guess is it depends on the cause of the brick. (for me it was some alpha builds of the twilight kernel. sorry tanimn)
1) make sure your phone is powered off (if your bricked you dont need to worry about this)
2) remove the battery dore
3) look beneith the silver camera bezel on the left hand side. youll see a tinyu hole that dosnt look like much
4) insert a ball point pen or bent paper clip inside of the hole and apply some pressure (not to much)
5)hold for 10-15 seconds ( longer if you like )
6) boot the phone directly to dl mode
7) odin ec05 or any stock rom you desire. ( make sure its the full tar ).
Great to hear that there may be a way to fix things if something goes wrong! Even if it saves only one other person's phone!

This is exactly why I never posted this before. This is the same issues with the i9000. Less then 50% if the people actually have this "magic button". I'm still trying to dig up that thread for reference.
I my self feel the button when pressed. I have recovered from 3 bricks using this "magic button" nubecoder had stated he has seen this button when his phone was disassembled
The reason this thread no exists now is cause I was asked to start a thread after I posted something in the vision kernel thread.

Yeah I have put on a strap. Take off the back cover and to the right of the speaker you will see a little square with a thing sticking up in the middle and a little hole on the side of the phone. put the loop of the strap and over the little pin in the middle of that square and there you go. Put your cover back on and your good to go.

Do you backup the apks in titanium backup? I can't seem to find swypetips.apk.
Where is the download link? I did what was said I just replaced the swype apks and left them where they were restarted my phone and checked my swype version and its still on 2.1 or something.
you first have to register for the beta and it will send you an email. The email will contain a link for the installer download and a 5 digit code. Go ahead and download and install the installer but don't run yet.
Now to install swype.
First switch to another input method.
Second delete swype from app folder.
Next, reboot.
Now run the swype installer you downloaded and it will ask you to log in and the 5 digit code from the email
after installed just switch back to swype as your input method

Potential brick?

Well, I know this has been discussed before, but I didn't find a solution for it. I recently acquired a GSII Skyrocket from a friend. He said it suddenly stopped working- he's pretty wealthy so he just bought an iPhone and gave this thing to me. I'm a Droid Charge user so I'm not new to Samsung devices, but this kind of stumps me.
Anyway when I try to power it on all I get is a pulse vibrate. You can see what happens here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYFc7IMU0pg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Any suggestions? Do I have to send it in to get it JTAG'd? I'd really like to get this fixed so I can sell it.
Thanks

Looks to have signs of life, somewhat, so I wouldn't think it's bricked. I would say maybe a stuck power button. Try cleaning it out.
Otherwise, try using Odin to return to stock.. you can find a sticky by vincom here with all the info you'll need.
There may be options between my 2 ideas someone else may give, i'm sure someone can get you pointed in the right direction if nothing I said does. Good luck.
Edit: Oh, also, the jig won't help.

the speed of the reboot seems more like a stuck power button like btm fdr said but odin to stock would be a good idea just don't mess up with odin because that can brick .
EDIT: from with in odin I can't remember if it's volume up or down but you can tell it to reboot normally. that would tell you if you need to odin it back to stock.

its a stuck "sticky" power button, if it is then odin wont work since it wont stay on long enough and useless since its a hw problem
test: when you remove then reinsert bat and the phone turns on, then if it takes approx 10 sec's to turn off and vibrate then its for sure a power button problem, its stuck
The device does exactly as seen in the video. I'd say it's shorter than 10 seconds, I can't get it to stay in download mode. The power button still "clicks" if that counts for anything.

You sir, should be what every user in the forum strives to be. A video to show us what's going on, info on the history of the device, and a willingness to fix it yourself.
I agree with everyone saying stuck power button. It's been a rampant problem for this device. Do you have any compressed air? If so, spray that stuff all around that power button. If not, examine the hardware around it and see if you can see any noticeable particles or lint which could be obstructing or jamming the button. If not, out it back together and mash the hell out of the button itself to see if you can un-jam it. If it still doesn't work, try sending it to Samsung for repair. Probably won't cost you as much as you'll sell the device for once it's fixed. Most seem to be getting around $200 for their rockets around here, depending on your region.
Good luck!
I got it! I ended up dousing the hell out of the board in 100% Isopropyl and smashing the sh!t out of the power button. Thanks a lot you guys!

Don't smash the button next time, use a dental pick.

You know, I always thought one of those would always be handy, but I never know where to pick one up. One that won't break in 10 seconds, at least.

[HOW TO] reset AT&T data usage

so I figured this little trick out by accident actually. while it's pretty useful to know, I'd suggest not using it unless you really need to. basically don't abuse it or it'll get 'patched' (for lack of a better word).
STEP 1
have AT&T give you a new SIM card.
* going into any AT&T store and saying you're having signal issues will get you in and out the door with a new SIM in 5 minutes, free of charge.
STEP 2
you're all done.
* if you want to check to see that it worked, open your dialer, press *3282# (*DATA#) and hit call. in a free seconds you'll receive a free text message from AT&T updating you on your data usage. you'll see two lines, one of which will read (DEACTIVATED), and your data will be back at 0/3GB (*screenshot related)
anyways, try not to abuse this. it should really only be a last resort thing. so only use it if you really need it!

It's not tracked by SIM ID, it's tracked by IMEI, and Ph#, so something else reset your data.

Your screen shot proves your theory wrong -_-
Notice how it states your data twice but only once is deactivated...nowhere does it say 0mb used out of whatever...your current data usage is about 2900 mb, don't go over!!!!
-nice try tho

Well I apologize, I just found it hard to believe you used that much data so quickly...based off me assuming you only did this recently. Of course its entirely possible to use that much data fast -one hd movie will put you close to there....but it was just so close to the other one I assumed it was never reset...really should take my moms advice on never assuming things as half the times when you assume you end up being wrong

Hearts and minds ^^
As for the topic at hand, don't you think it's a little devious to have your data reset like that? In the long term its gonna create more bothersome questions for the rest of us down the road when we do have realm SIM issues
