[HOW TO] reset AT&T data usage - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

so I figured this little trick out by accident actually. while it's pretty useful to know, I'd suggest not using it unless you really need to. basically don't abuse it or it'll get 'patched' (for lack of a better word).
STEP 1
have AT&T give you a new SIM card.
* going into any AT&T store and saying you're having signal issues will get you in and out the door with a new SIM in 5 minutes, free of charge.
STEP 2
you're all done.
* if you want to check to see that it worked, open your dialer, press *3282# (*DATA#) and hit call. in a free seconds you'll receive a free text message from AT&T updating you on your data usage. you'll see two lines, one of which will read (DEACTIVATED), and your data will be back at 0/3GB (*screenshot related)
anyways, try not to abuse this. it should really only be a last resort thing. so only use it if you really need it!

It's not tracked by SIM ID, it's tracked by IMEI, and Ph#, so something else reset your data.

Your screen shot proves your theory wrong -_-
Notice how it states your data twice but only once is deactivated...nowhere does it say 0mb used out of whatever...your current data usage is about 2900 mb, don't go over!!!!

As for the topic at hand, don't you think it's a little devious to have your data reset like that? In the long term its gonna create more bothersome questions for the rest of us down the road when we do have realm SIM issues

Even if that is the case, which I SERIOUSLY doubt, it will only be a short matter of time until we can remove/deter it.

yes there is a fix.
Add a NEW APN for the old HSPA+ ; the 'phone' apn

i agree. I'm not too sure what the problem is but it seems to filter sites even when i'm tethering (i'm grandfathered).
The issue is fixed when i hop on MIT's vpn (which encrypts all connections).

It's not actually unlimited.
I used to be on GG myself and everything was going great. Then I started getting my internet cut off because I was using too much internet. How can one use too much of unlimited? I literally ended up getting cut of twice in one week for using too much and all I was doing was streaming through Netflix.
Here's a screenshot of the message I sent to one of their agents about the situation.

Look at OP. He just asked about our carrier and hasn't posted since. He never wanted to discuss about our carriers either, he simply wanted to know WHAT carrier we were on. The replies started the conversation on what carriers were good.
Since I posted second, all I knew about this thread was that some weirdo with barely any posts just wanted to know what carrier other people were using. He never posted his carrier either, usually you would at least say "to start, I am on AT&T" or other carrier.

I only installed the radio. I highly doubt they'll be able to just connect whenever they want. You'll have to accept the request cause that would be some form of invasion of privacy but I still dont like the fact that they tried to force it on the phone. A big FU to Verizon for that one

They can not just search your phone. When you call in if they need to use it, they ask your permission and before it is initiated you have to enter a code to grant access.
Having said that, don't take an ota if you're rooted

To my understanding, it was on our phones when we first got them. I've called into Verizon to troubleshoot a signal issue and the computer and technician both asked me to let the use it. I have always declined. My brothers Droid Razr Maxx also has this.

My thought is to use cwm to banish the update to cache limbo, where I can pick it apart at my liesure and choose what (if anything) I want from it before filing the update as a whole with my S3 data.
I miss the days when people wanted an ota to hit so we could pick it apart for new software, anymore it seems most people are afraid of it...
Remote Diagnostic is a really really old news. I have this on my Charge and I rooted the hell out of it with many many custom roms and kernels. I flash like 1000 times and when I need to exchange, I just flash back to stock and they gave me a new one. In short, it's nothing people, it just being used to fix your phone remotely, of course, before you give them permission to look around, you have to roll it back to stock first.
This was on my old Razr Maxx. As stated, you have to allow it for Verizon to use it.
And with it, Verizon was able to see how Flash video was broken on my phone after the ICS update.

Samsung warranty

So I have a hard bricked infuse. Don't necessarily need to go into deets on that. However, I can exchange my infuse through warranty. But there is a glitch; I have a hair line crack in my screen. Maybe an inch in the top right corner. Warranty will cover it, but cost me $370. I was wondering if I could just bring the phone in locally to have that crack sealed (if possible at all. Heard of people doing it.) then send it into warranty without them knowing the difference? Then get my new phone without that hefty fee.
Plan b is to send it into the jtag peeps. I've already tried the jig. That's a no go.
Heres a pic of the crack. Its that black line in the corner. Its hardly visible.

My gf says the same. I remember when I almost bricked her atrix. She kept trying to check on my progress and I kept trying to keep her away. It was stuck on some screen lol.

absolutely hillarious
Yeah, one of the girls I liked BLEW UP at me once when I wasn't texting her because I had to Fastboot my old Razr after softbricking it >.<
Wow its about time someone read me like a book.CTFU I'm the same way and I entirely block everything and everyone out. But its been like this for many years see us men have a tendency to wander what the hell happened how it happened how to fix it and since we are so tired from downloading reading and rooting our androids , well we don't have an ounce of strength left to unbrick so we shut down instead of showing our wife's/ girlfriends/kids what to do so that when we find ourselves in this predicament they can serve as backup hardware to give us input. But our foolish pride won't allow it that's why we are the jacks of all trades but masters of none:banghead::banghead:

You young sir are a genius! This happens every few years to me. She knows its serious when I'm at my desk. True Rom-maniac thought of that.
This is so true! Only I usually am expecting an important call and have to resort to my mom's old blackberry.

Holy crap! That is hilarious!
Ha! Good to see everyone has gotten as good of a laugh from this as I was hoping. It really is funny because it is so fitting for so many of us. Like many have already said, my wife HATES my phone. Hates all my electronics especially since I got a galaxy tab for Xmas!!
