This will help you recover from a true birck
true brick = phone will not power up, no leds lighting up. Your phone trully dose nothing
Ive used this method 3 times so far and have been able to recover. I can not GUARANTEE this will work 100% of the time. My guess is it depends on the cause of the brick. (for me it was some alpha builds of the twilight kernel. sorry tanimn)
1) make sure your phone is powered off (if your bricked you dont need to worry about this)
2) remove the battery dore
3) look beneith the silver camera bezel on the left hand side. youll see a tinyu hole that dosnt look like much
4) insert a ball point pen or bent paper clip inside of the hole and apply some pressure (not to much)
5)hold for 10-15 seconds ( longer if you like )
6) boot the phone directly to dl mode
7) odin ec05 or any stock rom you desire. ( make sure its the full tar ).
Great to hear that there may be a way to fix things if something goes wrong! Even if it saves only one other person's phone!
you sly devil...it looks almost like the other spots in the plastic

This is exactly why I never posted this before. This is the same issues with the i9000. Less then 50% if the people actually have this "magic button". I'm still trying to dig up that thread for reference.
I my self feel the button when pressed. I have recovered from 3 bricks using this "magic button" nubecoder had stated he has seen this button when his phone was disassembled
The reason this thread no exists now is cause I was asked to start a thread after I posted something in the vision kernel thread.

Now I can imagine not every phone having this button, but there would be a hardware revision # diffrence, and we are all on r.5 unless you have a dev or promo phone...

From the looks of it, no. Just root it and take control of what you want out of your phone. If you are still on froyo, get gingy. Either ota or try a rom here.

As ICS has 'soft buttons' for home, menu, back etc across the bottom of the screen, would it not look kinda odd when we already have hardware buttons?
Or can the soft buttons be removed from ICS? Just ask'in.

thats cray! You would think Samsung would follow HTC but I dont think Samsung really cares about software. They only care about hardware (which I love). HTC on the other hand cares about software and the user experience than their hardware (HTC got some ugly phones). My next phone will prob be HTC since Samsung really doesn't care about our experience with this phone(and TBH I loved sense).

Hello,
I'm looking at a friend's Infuse and it seems that the screen is screwed up, I flashed GB official into it some days ago and now the screen displays some discolored horizontal lines and weird colors all over the place.
The image is still discernible, however it seems to me that the screen is broken or something might be loose.
Does anyone know what could be the reason of these issues?
I'll add photos to this post in a moment...

Thank you for your response, unfortunately it seems to be hardware as I have odined back to stock, even downgraded to Froyo and no success.
In LCD tests all the colors are displayed correctly, only when combined or when displaying something of higher complexity is that they look distorted.

Try the heimdall stock route also just to be sure.
The screen looks like an LCD monitor with bad pin connection.
If heimdall didn't make any difference, either open it or warranty it, I guess.

There's been a few reported issue with some sort of corrosion on the circuit board of the Infuse. Those suffers the constant boot loop scenario.
Here, I think may be due to a loose video connection as you may have suspected.
If you hold the phone and tap it into the palm of you hand while the display is ON and see some changes, I would bet that is the problem.
If it's still under warranty, I would take it to the store or send it in.
Obviously, odin or heimdall it back to stock first before you take it in.

Because there is always going to be people that don't bother to do any research and buy it thinking it is a quick solution for the last time they didn't do any research (and hard bricked their phone).
There is an App on the market (play store) that claims to turn your phone into a solar panel so it can charge itself through sunlight. The Dev of this app clearly sates that it is a joke and just put there for idiots that don't know better. It doesn't take very long reading the App reviews to see that there are plenty of idiots around. Most get it, however, there are several that actually think that it is supposed to charge their phones even after the Dev's confession.
So yea, that is why.

I am having a problem with my keyboard. I will have the browser open and Google or some similar site with a text input box. I tap on it and start typing and in the middle of what I am typing, it jumps to the next box. It's really annoying! Its the stock browser. I haven't noticed this on opera or dolphin "yet" because I don't use them much. Will need to test them as well.

It usually happens in between words when I touch the space button. Only in landscape mode though.

You have no idea. It happens all the time! One time it kept happening and everytime I would try and scroll to the top my thumb would hit it again.... I ended up chucking the phone against the wall and screaming at it to stop lol I'm a pretty mellow guy too!
Its because of the way I type though. I flip my phone horizontally, and use both thumbs to type 4738 words a minute.
So, I had my first go at editing the binary file and reconverted it back then replace the existing. Keys 2-9 stopped working.
I took out the tab line completely. I guess that screwed something up. Ideas? Suggestions? Round 2 in a little.
I could post the bin file in ASCII format if needed.

Yeah, I got lazy and bored and gave up after the first binary tweak. Now that you and Mtg3 have made me aware, I am being careful. Now, at least I know the cause too. That helps! I'm running CM7, don't think an ICS KB will work on my phone. As for after market KB.... I am a paranoid guy when it comes to computers. What my phone essentially is, a miniturized computer. There is so much malware in the market and its only getting worse! So downloading an after market KB would bug me out 24/7.

Well, I know this has been discussed before, but I didn't find a solution for it. I recently acquired a GSII Skyrocket from a friend. He said it suddenly stopped working- he's pretty wealthy so he just bought an iPhone and gave this thing to me. I'm a Droid Charge user so I'm not new to Samsung devices, but this kind of stumps me.
Anyway when I try to power it on all I get is a pulse vibrate. You can see what happens here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYFc7IMU0pg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Any suggestions? Do I have to send it in to get it JTAG'd? I'd really like to get this fixed so I can sell it.
Thanks

Looks to have signs of life, somewhat, so I wouldn't think it's bricked. I would say maybe a stuck power button. Try cleaning it out.
Otherwise, try using Odin to return to stock.. you can find a sticky by vincom here with all the info you'll need.
There may be options between my 2 ideas someone else may give, i'm sure someone can get you pointed in the right direction if nothing I said does. Good luck.
Edit: Oh, also, the jig won't help.

Thanks

the speed of the reboot seems more like a stuck power button like btm fdr said but odin to stock would be a good idea just don't mess up with odin because that can brick .
EDIT: from with in odin I can't remember if it's volume up or down but you can tell it to reboot normally. that would tell you if you need to odin it back to stock.

its a stuck "sticky" power button, if it is then odin wont work since it wont stay on long enough and useless since its a hw problem
test: when you remove then reinsert bat and the phone turns on, then if it takes approx 10 sec's to turn off and vibrate then its for sure a power button problem, its stuck
The device does exactly as seen in the video. I'd say it's shorter than 10 seconds, I can't get it to stay in download mode. The power button still "clicks" if that counts for anything.

Click does not mean anything as its the internal button that's giving u problems, mashing it or cleaning usually works but not guaranteed, might need replacing the button

I just ordered a new precision toolkit so I'll wait for it to arrive, then I'll try to take it apart and clean out the button.

You sir, should be what every user in the forum strives to be. A video to show us what's going on, info on the history of the device, and a willingness to fix it yourself.
I agree with everyone saying stuck power button. It's been a rampant problem for this device. Do you have any compressed air? If so, spray that stuff all around that power button. If not, examine the hardware around it and see if you can see any noticeable particles or lint which could be obstructing or jamming the button. If not, out it back together and mash the hell out of the button itself to see if you can un-jam it. If it still doesn't work, try sending it to Samsung for repair. Probably won't cost you as much as you'll sell the device for once it's fixed. Most seem to be getting around $200 for their rockets around here, depending on your region.
Good luck!
I got it! I ended up dousing the hell out of the board in 100% Isopropyl and smashing the sh!t out of the power button. Thanks a lot you guys!

Don't smash the button next time, use a dental pick.

You know, I always thought one of those would always be handy, but I never know where to pick one up. One that won't break in 10 seconds, at least.
