The fine print: This information is provided without warranty. I can not be held responsible if you **** up. I simply wrote a walkthrough/tutorial. I did not produce the procedure or the steps. I just simply consolidated all the information into a single place with notes to make things easier to understand and execute. You are welcome to share this information anywhere you want. Please do credit me for writing it. Lastly, please link back to the original site if possible. I try to format the text in such a way that it is more easy to understand. Lastly, I ask that everyone who uses this pays it forward by helping others figure out their own phones. Now on to the procedure.
I am running Windows XP SP3/32bit.

Steps 1 and 2 can be skipped. You just need to download the latest version of the SBF file (currently 2.3.20). Link coming soon.
1. Download 2.3.20 SBF file for D2
You can find it here: http://www.iamthewalcs.com/Support-Files/Droid 2 2.3.2 SBF.zip
2. Extract the .zip file and put the .sbf file somewhere where you can easily find it.
3. Download RSD Lite 4.7. (RSD Lite 4.7 is not the same as RSD Lite 4.7.2)
[RSD Lite 4.9 works as well]
Reference: http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-2-how-tos/4393-how-sbf-flash-droid-2-a.html
RSD Lite 4.9 Here!
http://droid2files.com/tools/RSD Lite 4.9.zip
New: Download to RSDLite 4.7 with patch.
http://kimete.com/droid/RSDLite47patch.zip
There is a link to download RSD Lite 4.7 + patch here as well. Includes an installer (.msi) and the patch (.ini).
4. Install the program (rsdlite_4.7.msi) or RSDLite 4.9. Follow instructions until completion.
5. Next, extract the patch (pst_flash.ini) to the Motorola/RSD Lite folder. It'll ask you if you want to overwrite the file. Choose yes. (Don't think you need this for version 4.9, but don't quote me on that).
(My file path to place the file was: My Computer -> C Drive -> Program Files -> Motorola -> RSD Lite)
6. You'll need to have the Motorola Drivers. You probably already have them, but if you don't, you can get them here:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
KalenXI noted that you can't use the same Motorola drivers that you used for root from the other thread. You must use these updated drivers with MotoConnect. Thank you sir!
7. Now would be a good time to back up anything on your SD card to your computer. Plug in your Droid2 to the computer via USB cable. Pull down the notification menu/blind, choose USB connection, and then choose USB Mass Storage Device. Now there should be a removable storage in your "My Computer." Go through your SD card and back up your important things. Probably the DCIM and download folder. You should also make sure that your phone is set up to "Back Up Data." Go to the system menu (the 4 squares icon/button in the lower left), choose Settings, then Privacy, then make sure the "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" are checked.
8. You now need to put your phone in bootload mode. In order to do so, power down your phone. Slide open your keyboard, hold the "up" key (the arrow closest to the enter button), and power on your phone. You should come up with a black background and text with something along the line of d2.35 and usb okay.
9. Now you can open RSD Lite. Go to your Start Menu, Program Files, and you should see RSD Lite. In the title of the newly open window, make sure the version is 4.7.
Edit: If you opened RSDLite and your device is not showing, you might need to open it as an admin. Go to program files/motorola/rsdlite/sdl.exe, and right cllick and run as an administrator. Reference by JonandRoid. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8000565&postcount=12
10. Wait a few minutes until your device shows in the table. It should say A955, port 1, connected, etc.
11. Toward the top of the window, there is filename/blank field. To the right of it, there is "..." button. Click it. Now find your .sbf with the open window that popped up. Select "Droid2_X6_2.2...SECURE.sbf", or the latest version of your sbf, and press open. Back to the program window, press Start (right next to the "...") Your phone should now start flashing the firmware to the phone. Just let it run it's course. It's going to reboot and start up again. You'll know when it is done when the Progress field in the table of RSD Lite says complete. This may take a little bit. Maybe 5-10 minutes.
After your phone reboots and doesn't get past the boot animation (wait at least 5 or 10 minutes),
a. Turn off your phone
b. Hold down X on the keyboard
c. Turn on your phone while continuing to hold X
d. When you get the Android guy with a '!' in a triangle push the search button on the keyboard (the magnifying glass button, two keys to the left of the space bar)
e. Select both 'wipe cache' and 'wipe data' from the menu.
f. Reboot your phone
If you do steps a-f, you probably won't need to do these following steps.
12. I do not know if this will work or not, but if it does, you guys might not need to do the rest unless you truly do want to fully factory reset your phone. This step is UNCONFIRMED.
To get back onto the Verizon Wireless network, dial *22899 and press send. It should update your phone and you'll be back on the network. (Referenced from ITGuy11 at the link below.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7933189&postcount=12
13. Your phone still has everyone on it. You'll probably realize that you now have no 3G or phone service and are roaming. Now you need to Factory Reset your phone. Go to the system menu (the 4 squares icon/button in the lower left), choose Settings, then Privacy, the choose Factory Data Reset. Follow the instructions and agreeing to wipe your phone clean. It will ask you to confirm, and/or ask you to enter your security pin/security pattern. It'll reboot itself and run its course.
14. Your phone will eventually be put back to factory settings. You'll then be greeted by the new user/account wizard. Follow the directions. They'll ask you to program/update your phone, enter in some login info, and then your phone will be back to brand new, just like the day you walked out of the Verizon store, except with the BackUp Manager service, all your applications and contacts will be downloaded back onto the phone!
That's it! That wasn't so bad was it?!

If you found this tutorial helpful, and would like to do something for me, please donate to my PayPal. I am short on rent by $100 this month. I am a student, and moving to a new place and I need to produce first months rent, last months, and a deposit. I am not expecting to profit from this tutorial. Honestly, I am just doing this to help others. I just need some help with rent this month. All donations are appreciated, even if it is a dollar. If everyone donated even a dollar or two, I'd be set! PayPal info coming soon!
Another edit: PayPal: [email protected]
Another quick note, I'll be adding references sometime soon. It is almost 5 in the morning and I want to go to bed!
This is awesome, thank you. This tutorial and your rooting instructions (with all of the extra clarification) are very helpful. I know it's not much but I am going to try to send a few bucks your way (from one poor college student to another? ).
USB debugging should also be enabled. It's found in the Settings -> Applications -> Development.

I had that same error, upgrading to the latest Motorola drivers fixed it. I'd post a link but the forums won't let me so just search for "motorola drivers" on google, go to the first link, go to "USB Drivers and PC Charging Drivers" and download the "Motorola 4.6.5 Driver with MotoConnect" drivers.

That makes sense. I got my drivers from when I installed Easy Tether. Driver files were on the phone. That's probably why it worked. So, solution to the problem is downloade the latest drivers!
I think a youtube video of this is possible. Would people be interested in that?

Thanks! What is everyone's experiences with this tutorial? I want to make sure that it makes sense and is complete. I wrote it from memory after flashing my phone.

Do you have updated drivers? Don't quote me on this, but maybe flash one file and then flash the other?
That's what I did, I flashed the other file (successfully) and rooted. Didn't bother factory resetting or anything.

And today I was having problems, so I used the bootstrap recovery to wipe cache and data, and then sbf'd from the bootloader

How exactly do you download the device drivers? Ive tried a million times and the link given on the motorola website just keeps giving me zipped up documents. Really starting to piss me off.

You are moving in the right direction. Inside the zipped file, there is the install file, .msi, I believe, that you double click to install your drivers and MotoConnect.
This is all thanks to the awesome threads on this website.. No credit of programming will be claimed by me.
*warning* this can be done only if you have a device that forces the samsung galaxy s g or gt i9000 to go in to download mode.
Ok so here is the story, when the samsung galaxy S froyo beta was out I kind of editted the regedit of samsung to be able to install it...
What I didn't know and wasn't noticed by anyone as I've surfed down google to the 200th pages... was that after the reg edit update the Volume down + home button + off switch combination falls of and will not work anymore.
So I waited untill it was out officially in the Netherlands (eindhoven)
What I did was the folowing:
I went to vodafone and they tried to update it. with the force device (big blue box with 12 buttons on it with the buttons 2 and 6 were clicked down).
When they tried to update the phone went off and it lost it's complete firmware. aka PHONE - ! - COMPUTER.. I went home and searched of the web and found here that there was a kind off update.zip. (when I find it I will edit this post and upload it) I downloaded the file and extracted the contents on a SD card. I went back to vodafone and let them force the phone in to download mode again. after that odin instantly recognized and updated the phone to Android 2.2 Froyo update for Galaxy S.
So here are the simple steps.
1. Don't panic.
2. Surf this forum for the update.zip if I still haven't uploaded it. and mainly search for the tag: black screen of death. or phone + ! + computer.
When you have the file. follow step 3.
3. Extract the contents of the update.zip file to the removable SD card of your phone with another device note like root:Sd/update/(files) but like root:sd/(files) the files must be directly available to the phone without having to be searching in to another folder. and plug the sd-card back in the phone.
4. If you have such blue device to force in to download mode then just use odin and update phone. if not, then go to the nearest and trustworthy phone store and make them force it into the download mode... and follow the rest of the steps.
5. step 5 is the most attention worthy part there is: Either bring your own laptop with the correct odin and the correct files and USB cable for when it's in download mode to update it. or either give it to the person behind the counter and let him update it.
6. When froyo is installed give it time to run and scan all it needs to do, otherwise it will lagg and only frustrate you.
7. after couple of minutes froyo is ready for use. after this.look for a reliable lagg fixer because froyo laggs the same way the mind of your mother-in-law does when you're trying to talk sense in to her mind...
If I'm correct after these steps you should be able to use your phone again and have froyo installed and working.
If this hasn't worked, then I advice to either repeat these steps (hence the bring your own laptop) or let the phone-store guy do his thing and force the install. REMEMBER these people usually give up after 1 or 2 try's but it's your phone and they don't care.. so just stand firm and say, I would like you to give it another try..and if he refuses. you can just tell him you won't leave untill he has done it over and over untill it's done or let you self try it and crawl behind the counter.
ALL CREDITS GO TO THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE WRITTEN THE PROGRAMS AND GIVEN ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMBINE THE STEPS AND FIX THIS.
But hey if you think the credits belong to me since I wrote this guide. then by all means
I can't access the recovery mode, but I can access the download mode. I also used the Kies registry hack to upgrade to 2.2.
Which update.zip file you are talking about? There are a million different ones!
I do not have an external SD card. Is it still possible to fix the phone? No offense but your solution doesn't really offer a solution at all. It only tells us to go somewhere else to get it fixed!
What is the correct Odin, what are the correct files? PIT, PDA, PHONE, CSC, update.zip? Links?
ROM for recovery G2X under the NVFLASH
This method necessary!
If the device is not loaded and not firmware in other ways! (If you downloaded the wrong firmware in the device)
I took the unpacked program files KDZ and added to them NVFlash and created BAT file!
Download ROM: http://www.mediafire.com/?wfokxjxi7rfoaey
Mirror: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C5LBU3DS
Download APX driver: http://www.mediafire.com/?k559zgjlqkd5ted
Installation Instructions:
Download both files
Unpack it to the C drive to their respective folder
Remove the battery
Hold Vol Up/Down (and keep them held)
Insert the USB cable
Install APX driver from the your APX folder
For windows 7(and vista? please confirm):
Open Device Manager in Windows and you should see "APX Device" listed with an error
Right click on the APX device
Select 'Update driver software'
Select 'Let me pick...'
Select 'Have disk'
Browse to directory you extracted the APX Driver
Select the *entire* 'APX Driver' folder
Accept any warnings, including the big red alert (you may need to disable UAC)
Now in Device Manager under 'USB Controllers' you should have an 'NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for mobile devices'
If not, uninstall the driver, reboot, rinse and repeat
Unplug everything
Hold Vol Up/Down (and keep them held)
Insert USB cable
open your ROM folder:
Run Flash.bat file and wait for the process
After the logo appears on the LG phone
Unplug USB cable
Insert the battery
enjoy!
After that, I recommend to firmware device with help programms KDZ or LG Mobile Update
I'm confused as to what this is? I'm guessing stock rom flash through nv flash? Kind of like odin for samsung phones?

Can't wait to check this out when I get home later. Regarding the kdz file, what exactly were you able to unpack from it? I've been able to extract 2 files (a very large .wbd file and a .dll file) but I couldn't figure out how to unpack them further, specifically the .wdb file.

Can you post the DLL for the G2X so we can use the LG Utilities to unpack KDZ files for this device please. So far we have been unable to get the proper DLL that enables us to unpack these files. If you unpacked the KDZ you must have the DLL unless you used another method to extract the files from the KDZ. Please elaborate on how you accomplished this. Both phburks and I have been working on this and so far we have had no success.

It is for people that have mucked up their phones to the point where LG Updater and KDZ Flash are not possible. This can be caused by many issues including, but not limited to, people flashing the O2X baseband to a G2X device. This method is purported to flash the entire Gingerbread ROM at the lowest possible hardware level. Hopefully this method is legit, but nobody has confirmed they have done it yet with the exception of the OP. Yes it is similar to ODIN for the Samsung but operating at an even lower level. With the NVFlash capability Tegra2 devices are virtually unbrickable.

Yes. It is almost as good as JTAG flashing the device. For Galaxy S devices using ODIN you still have to have the 'software download' mode working in the ROM and it is possible to brick a Galaxy S beyond the point of even getting this mode to be accessible leaving you the only way to fix the device through disassembling it and flashing via the JTAG pads. Using the NVFlash method you are flashing directly to the hardware through they Hynix flashing chip. I had another phone with a similar capability (I-Mobile i858 - Yuhua Touchstone device) and no matter how badly I F'd it up (I was developing custom roms for it) I had the similar low level flashing tool that could reflash the phone to stock so I could start over with a clean slate. If this method is legit, this is a big boon to the dev community for this device.

So you got them after the LG Updater extracted the KDZ into its component files. phburks and I didn't get that far as we didn't want to connect our already updated devices to the updater. To get to the point you did where you could grab the individual files you would have had to click the start update button. Good work.
I have 7-zip on my computer but I am unable to open up the file I just downloaded. Can you put it in another format and upload to megaupload or mediafire please? I don't want to go through that Russian site again as I got an invalid download. Also, please post the baseband file as a separate download.

What we really need is for someone to tell us how to create the config files for NVFlash so we can flash the baseband only. The new baseband is there and named 'P999_MDM.bin' if I am remembering correctly. No reason to flash an entire ROM when all someone wants is the updated baseband. If we can get the older baseband file also this tool could be used to revert the baseband also, if someone wanted to do that.

You don't have to buy anything. You just click on one sponsor site and it opens a new window. Thirty seconds later it will enable a download link. You need to click download two or three times if I remember correctly. I am at work now. I can mirror it in about ten hours if nobody else has done it yet. I looked at the files briefly and it looks legit.

Good question - that is what I am looking for rather then having to mess with the nvflash commands directly.
Update - this setup is similar to Paul's stock ROM recovery setup on modeco.com. As with his, you only have to "Run Flash.bat file and wait for the process". When I could not get off of the LGupdater screen by any other means, I ran this file from his post and it ran flawlessly - but of course I ended up with a 990's device. I tried to get back with other tools and firmware, but was never able to do it.
If this works OK, you would be able to restore your data, apps, or a nandroid and you are back in business.
I spent a week trying to restore my original (and best device as it turns out), so I am not going to fool with this right now myself. I did compare the config files from bot Paul's and this firmware and they are different - which looks real promising, as they are different.
HELP! I tried to use this and the tool failed, now I am getting ZERO response from the device. I can't even boot to APX. I'm freaking out right now!
EDIT: I managed to get the process restarted and the phone is in the process of rebooting. Hoping for the best.
EDIT 2: Phone booted up and it was all restored but for some reason the baseband was not updated :\
Did you run by using the flash.bat file? Did you hold volume up and down for the entire flash process?

Did you have old of new baseband on before flashing? What was the state of your G2X before running this?
UPDATE: It appears that this works - but would like to 100% confirm. After all the disasters that occurred from running the LGupdater tool, this would be an important fix and should be stickied at some point. Current members know of the updater problems, but new buyers and member may not - so many may still have this problem down the road.
Therefore, I believe this is an important enough item to bring to closure and make readily available.
U saved my phone's life
THANK YOU THANK YOU
followed instructions restored completley to stock just like how i got phone out of box 2 weeks ago.
I was running eaglesblood v8 and had altered the vold.fstab file to switch mounts
from sdcard to internal and after that point i rebooted and media scanner said damaged sd card well i figured it just to be like an extension of a permission of sorts. and thought if formated it would the paths would switch no problem.
im actually kind of having a hard time rembering exactly what steps i did take to **** it up royally. but went into clockwork 5 to flash another rom from internal storage or same i cant rember now and did factory reset then all hell broke loose .
couldnt mount nothing except for system i tried formating sd card even though i dont have one probally ended up formating internal lol. formated system,
re flashed all recoverie versions including stock. i was getting so mad i called google HA by the way they got some pretty good music when u have to hold.
only thing i didnt try was to load up a rom on sd card and mount that but i really doubt it would have worked and plus i couldnt even use phone to do it lol
i need to go buy drive saved me some serious cash I would say this should be enough confirmation!!
As of 28/12/2013, I no longer have this phone. My threads will stay open for all who want to assist others. I've had a great time being a member of the O3D community, so thank you all!
For questions, requests or any other remarks, please don't send me PM, I will not answer. Instead, please post properly in the thread, so that anybody can read and benefit or even assist.
Using the LG Flashtool has never been to my liking. So, as soon as I read about the new ICS for P920, I dug up my hard drive for that nice little tool that had beautifully served me back in the ghost-calls days to easily flash back and forth Froyo and Gingerbread! After successfully upgrading once more, this time to ICS, I decided to write this guide.
DISCLAIMER: This procedure is NOT for the faint hearted! If something goes wrong and you fry your device, I cannot be held responsible. Hundreds of people have successfully upgraded (or downgraded) their devices using this guide. If something doesn't work for you then you're doing something wrong! Read the guide again and find what you've been missing.
I'm always open to suggestions. So, if you feel like I should have described some part in a different way, please say so. Of course, this means that from time to time, as new suggestions come in, I will edit parts of the guide to make it as helpful and understandable as possible. So, if you are planning to flash, stay tuned for the latest info.
Links to KDZ files
- Leaked EURO beta P920V28B_00.kdz (rename it to V28B_00.kdz)
- EURO OPEN V30A_00.kdz
- SPAIN Vfone V30B_00.kdz
- You can actually use any KDZ firmware for the P920
Flashing Part 1 (What you need):
A. Download and install LGUnitedMobileDriver attached at the end of this post.
B. Download and unzip KDZ_Flashing_Software.zip attached at the end of this post.
C. From the folder you just unzipped, install LG Mobile Support Tool (B2CAppsetup.exe). Quit the application after installation has completed.
D. Right-click on msxml 4.0 SP3 parser.msi and select Install.
E. BACKUP your data including the contents of your internal SD to your PC, especially if you're upgrading from ported SU760 ROM, cause it may be erased!!!
F. (Win7+ users only) Open the properties of the UpTestEX.exe and Windows Enabler.exe, enable XPSP3 compatibility mode and Admin rights and click OK.
Flashing Part 2 (Procedure):
1. Run "Windows Enabler.exe" and turn it on by clicking on its taskbar icon.
2. From the folder you unzipped previously, run UpTestEX.exe and select 3GQCT and CS_EMERGENCY
3. Select the KDZ file you want to flash.
4. Put your phone in S/W download mode
... To do this, you need to shutdown phone and connect USB. To make sure phone is off, press power for about 10sec. While keeping Vol-Up pressed, press power for about 3sec. After you hear the USB connection sound on the PC, you may release Vol-Up. (Depending on your bootloader, you may see the Korean S/W screen, or your screen may remain black). If this is the first time, let the PC install drivers.
5. Now click on "Normal web upgrade test" (don't click on "Start Upgrade").
6. In the new window that opens, click on "Upgrade Start".
7. Select "Different Country" and your preferred language and hit "OK".
8. Flashing has now started. Wait until you see the following...
Code:
...
...
14:37:21 : CDMA: wParam = 2004, lParam = 99
14:37:21 : Model Dll Msg Not Found(2004, 99)
14:37:23 : CDMA: wParam = 2004, lParam = 100
14:37:23 : Model Dll Msg Not Found(2004, 100)
14:37:23 : CDMA: wParam = 2001, lParam = 0
14:37:23 : Model Dll Msg Not Found(2001, 0)
(It is normal to hear the USB disconnection sound before flashing is finished. DO NOT INTERRUPT before you see the above log!)
Wait until the updater has finished.
9. Exit the tool and remove USB cable.
10. Power on the phone to see that everything works.
Factory Reset
It is not necessary but advisable to do a Factory Reset at this point, so make sure you have made a copy the contents of your Internal SD to your computer and go to System Settings/Backup & reset/Factory data reset. Select "Erase Internal Memory" and press "Reset phone".
IMPORTANT: Do not try to do the factory reset as described above after you have flashed a custom recovery. You may end up in a "recovery loop"! Instead, you can boot into your custom recovery and do the reset from there!
How to root:
There are three methods that I know of. You are free to select the one that suits you best, but Baidu is my personal favourite and can be used on other devices too.
BAIDU EASY ROOT APK (any ROM - Easiest way)
Make sure you have USB Debugging and Unknown Sources enabled.
Turn off all Internet communications (mobile data and WiFi).
Attached at the end of this post you will find the app. Just install it as a normal apk and run it. If you forgot to turn off Internet, it will ask you to upgrade. Don't let it, because the newer version will be in Chinese! Sometimes, the app may exit after you refuse to update, so be quick to hit the "root'' button before it asks.
In about a minute you will have root access. I would then recommend you to go to PlayStore and install SuperSu, run it and let it replace the su binary.
After that, you can uninstall Baidu root.
VROOT ON PC (ICS only)
Read this excellent guide by OptimusRS
FLASHABLE ZIP (any ROM)
1. Download Su_Bbox_1.20.2_gazhead_signed.zip and save it somewhere in your SD card
2. Use OS_Hacking's tool to install Wkpark's v1.25a ICS bootloader (read here if you need more help with the tool). After this step, your boot-up LG logo will be silver!
3. With the same tool install a GB recovery. (ICS recoveries are only for xbsall's ported SU760 ROM, they can't read your internal SD - Read here for an in-depth analysis)
4. Boot into recovery
5. Flash the zip from step (1) and reboot. Check your apps drawer, you should now have Superuser app.
6(optional). Now that you have root access, if you want, you can restore the Stock Bootloaders and Recovery (you can't have a custom kernel with stock bootloader). Download Stock_ICS_btldr-recov.zip (attached to this post). Reboot to recovery and flash it. Reboot. Now you have a rooted ICS with stock bootloaders and stock recovery!
Additional reading about bootloaders and recoveries. This is important info. If you understand it, you will avoid lots of problems when flashing.
Troubleshooting:
1. If you shutdown your phone from the power menu, it will turn back on by itself. This is a bug in Wkpark's 1.25a bootloader. If you want to completely shut your phone, just keep power pressed for about 10sec as soon as it starts to reboot.
2. To boot to recovery, Shut your phone down as described above. Keep Vol-down pressed and press Power for about 4sec. Release Vol-down when you see the silver LG logo. If this doesn't work, there is also another way. Again shut your phone completely. Keep Vol-down + 3D pressed and press Power for about 4sec. You will see a menu with three options. The last one will be -Recovery and it will be preselected. Release keys. In a few sec the phone will reboot to recovery. Remember that the O3D is quite stubborn and may not boot to recovery every time. Keep trying and it will work eventually!
3. I mentioned above the possibility to get into a recovery loop (your phone boots only to recovery). I have made a flashable zip to break this loop and boot back to android. Just download P920_ICS_RecoveryLoop_Breaker.zip (attached at the end of this post) to your computer. While your phone is in recovery, connect it via USB, select to mount SD to computer and copy the zip. Eject from computer and flash the zip. Reboot. After booting into system, you'll have to flash a new recovery (e.g. from ROM Manager or OS_Hacking's Tool).
4. Losing IMEI is something that doesn't normally happen when flashing KDZ files. It happens sometimes when flashing BIN/FLS. I suspect that flashing a KDZ with this guide after you have lost your IMEI will actually fix it! This remains to be proven (feedback please). Another way that has been confirmed to work is to run LG Mobile Support Tool, connect your phone in S/W download mode and select "Recovery Phone" from the "Customer Support" menu. A popup will appear asking for the IMEI. You need to type the correct one (it's written beneath the battery). The tool will then download and flash the latest official firmware for your country/provider fixing IMEI at the same time.

Agree that LG Flashtool is a joke. However, smartflash is great if you aren't doing a baseband.
This ROM has all 3D features?
Tks so much!

Yes!
Sent from my ICS/JB 3D phone!
The LG Flash Tool is not so bad for all of us who are used to it because we had to downgrade/upgrade ROMs during that dreadful ghost-calls era.
And according to many reports here, the LG Flash Tool /kdz method, is the most reliable when flashing the new v28b ICS rom.
I'm still not sure about the step 3 though and flashing a GB recovery instead of a ICS one, like many people did already. It may be that the "recovery loops" are cause by the bootloaders and not the ICS recoveries but this has to be confirmed.
I think you may need to replace the KDZ file name as V28B_00.KDZ.
Do i need to install wkparks boot loader if i don't want to root the phone?
And does the IMEI Change after flashing v28 via kdz?

Hi,
i've tried your guide step by step. But i'm stuck at the part 6, i'm waiting nearly 30 min with an "MOD UpTestEX MFC Application doesn't work" (translated by me) messagebox and at the taskmanager the memory usage doesn't change since the messagebox. Only the phone heats a little bit.
I have done this twice. Second try after a clean reboot and start as admin but this doesn't help.
After this the phone is unchanged.
Any advice ?

Perhaps it doesn't work with the updated drivers. Google for "LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3. 2.1", uninstall your drivers and install these. I will try to upload later when I get home.
Edited 1st post just to be sure.

Very good manual. 10x for the work. :good:
is there any reason to be GB? I have installed ICS CWM touch with the same tool and still work.

It's because we are now using the standard P920 (GB) partition table again, so ICS recoveries won't read your Internal SD Card!

I've downgraded but it doesn't change his behavior. Could the OS (win7 64bit) be the problem ? I found old guides where they use XP.

OK! Sorry for the trouble. I will update 1st post! I guess you have to find an XP machine or use a virtual machine or simply use LG Flashtool! You may also use Smartflash for the system (bin), but not for the baseband (fls).

That are the drivers i had first .. later i will set up an Virtual XP.
so after looking for 3-4 hours i'm convinced that almost all the links for files related to the SK4G are expired/down/DL limit reached. i had to wipe my HDD and can't find my backup anywhere!?!? if anyone has the stock firmwares (any and all) could you pretty pretty please send them to me? i'm stuck in a buggy version of glorious overdose and just need my phone to work right again. respond for e-mail or just post ***NEW*** link in this thread.
P.S. so when the mods say "wrong thread" or "duplicate" i looked i searched and found nothing newer than 2013 so i started a fresh one......... that and i just signed up and it keep telling me "NO" in what seemed like the correct forum.
P.S.S i'm assuming there's legal reasons but whats up with a file repository on or at least paired with XDA to hold all the files posted here. shooting in the dark but maybe Kimdotcom will provide a mega account to serve as a repo?!?!?!?
I have the One-Click KG2 ODIN Java app that may be able to restore your SK to t839-Sidekick4G-UVKG2. Here's the README:
If you brick your phone, well you're lucky because it can't get any easier to fix. This is pretty much a one-click version of ODIN that is OPERABLE AND EXECUTABLE on ANY operating system that has Java installed. Self-explanatory, but if you don't have Java installed yet, you probably should go get it installed now.
(Credits go to Ayoteddy for the following post) :
To get into download mode (if you can't) pull the battery out of your phone, the USB cord (if connected), the SIM card, and the SDCard. Now...in a position where your one hand is able to access the Trackball and - volume key, hold them both at the same time and with your other free hand, insert the battery, after a second or two, you should see an Android on screen with a logo saying DOWNLOADING..you're ready to advance.
After you install Java, double-click the .jar file in this folder.
Hit "flash" and if all is well, it'll work without any hassles and you'll be back to the stock ROM like the day you got your Sidekick (factory reset).
If it says driver was not found, a window will popup with an administrative prompt if you are running Windows 7, allow it to run.
On the new Zadig window, go to Options>List all devices.
You should now see SAMSUNG COMPOSITE DRIVER, make sure the box to the immediate right says WinUSB and then hit the install button.
You should be on stock after performing these steps...if not and YOUR MODEM fails to upload, check "Flash Bootloaders" and the modem should flash just fine and you'll be back on stock ROM soon enough.
Thanks to AdamOutler for Heimdall!
His thread is here if you want to thank him properly!
