So I saw today that US Cellular is getting the SCH-i500 as well, though they're calling it the Mesmerize. If I'm not mistaken, the hardware should be identical to the Fascinate, and I'm guessing it has a full "Google experience" ROM. Anybody think there's a chance of porting its ROM to the Fascinate? Of course, it might have ifs own bloatware to remove, but I can't help but think it wouldn't be nearly as bad as Verizon's version.
Anyone have any thoughts about this? Would this be a worthwhile effort for the short term, or would it be a waste of time, and we should focus on Froyo instead?

That'd be a great thing to try if it's possible. I'd be willing to try it out.

Well, if it's the same hardware and launching with froyo, I would put my money on froyo coming out for the fascinate within days of it's release, give or take (also, bing free).
*edit* So, According to BGR, several other reliable news sources and US Cellular themselves it's being shipped with 2.1. I only read one article saying it was being shipped with 2.2, so I think you are incorrect. It will also be released the 27th of this month and if the rumors are true, we should have froyo by then, so this is probably moot. SOURCE *edit*
Most articles say it will ship with 2.1 I think the 2.2 one was just a typo.
Yeah. It will not ship with froyo, it will be upgraded later on to froyo.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Nope, no Froyo right now. From the official press release:
The Mesmerize operates on the Android 2.1 platform with access to the 80,000 applications available on the Android Market. It includes popular Google Mobile Services including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk and YouTube, and is pre-loaded with popular U.S. Cellular applications Your Navigator Deluxe, Tone Room Deluxe, My Contacts Backup and CityID. Customers can upgrade their software later this year to access Samsung’s Media Hub and migrate to the Android 2.2 platform, nicknamed “Froyo.”

Oh, and I wouldn't hold my breath on an October release. I'll believe if and when I say it, but the way Android upgrades keep getting delayed by Verizon, I'm thinking more mid-November-ish. But hey, I'd love to be proven wrong about that.

I'll be getting the Mesmerize when it launches, I already preordered it at a local store. I'll be watching developments on rooting closely. With the way US Cell upgrades phones Froyo won't come till next year, but hopefully nov/december would be acceptable.

How did you pre-order it? My friend went to all of the US Cellular stores in town, Corporate and authorized retailers, and none said they are able to pre-order.

I went to an unauthorized retailer and they put my name on a list for it, no money down. They said they will call me when I can buy it, however as long as they receive their shipment for the 27th, I'll be waiting outside the door when they open at 10AM.
Have we confirmed it will be a Google Experience phone? I didn't see anything about that in the press release.

Well, the press release specifically lists most, if not all of the "Google Experience" apps individually, so as far as I'm concerned that qualifies. There doesn't seem to be a clear definition as to what a Google Experience device is. Some thought originally that it meant phones with stock Android and no custom UIs, but that was disproven ages ago. I think every Android phone is considered a Google Experience phone, unless specific key Google apps have been replaced, which Verizon and AT&T have done with Bing and Yahoo, respectively.

I want to put this out there right now, so that people will see it.
If you flash the full firmware file that's leaded for the Mesmerize, or the modem.bin file, you will brick your Fascinate.
Do not randomly flash other hardware's firmware to your device. Don't do it.
If you really, really, really want to do it because you're stupid, or naive, or feel like making a trip to the VZW store, at least post here first and ask if anyone else has done what you're going to do. More than likely we have, and it didn't work out very well.

Um, okay, where did that come from? I didn't see anyone here suggesting that anyone should do that. What I suggested was a port of the ROM, meaning the taking the full "Google Experience" portion of that ROM and adapting it to the Fascinate. Oh well, it's a moot point now. Froyo ROMs are right around the corner, so nobody's going to waste any time on a 2.1 ROM anymore.

How to Fascinate your Mesmerize
****THIS POST IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS*****READ COMPLETELY BEFORE PROCEEDING*********************************************************************
I had to do this because I had flashed wrong thing in ODIN, and I had NO other choice....I did not do this by choice but this REALLY WORKS and I THINK ITS GREAT I was taking a RISK and I understood the consequences....I Could have ended up with a BRICKED PHONE, but that was not to be. I am VERY VERY happy with the results.
I WANT TO SAY THAT ALOT OF THE MATERIAL IN THIS POST WAS USED FROM LINKS AND POSTS FROM XDA WEBSITE THEY ARE A GREAT FORUM AND ANYONE DOING THIS SHOULD BECOME A MEMBER OF "XDA" AND "MOD A DROID"....THANK YOU XDA AND ALL THE DEV'S FOR ALL YOUR WORK ALL THE MATERIAL IN THIS POST I WILL PUT LINKS TO PAGES AT THE BOTTOM FROM PAGES USED "BUT I HAVE CHANGED SOME OF THE STEPS SO FOLLOW THIS POSTS INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DO THIS PROCEDURE"....TO FASCINATE YOUR MESMERIZE.

******************************READ ENTIRE POST BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING TO YOUR PHONE********************************************************
First -You NEED to download everything and have it on your PC ready to use !!! DO NOT START WITHOUT DOING THIS.
Second -You NEED to backup your contacts. DO NOT USE MY CONTACTS BACKUP !!! You will not have that app yet so there is no way to restore them. I used an app. called LOOKOUT from the market. You have to install on phone and sign up on LOOKOUTS web sight and make sure you run a backup of contacts, as well you need to move any apps you want to your PC or SD card. I recommend the PC to leave space on SD Card....Have at least 1GB free on card to be plenty safe.
Ok heres the deal this may or may not be something you will want to do to your phone....DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK....This is what I did to turn my phone into a Fascinate even though I was a US Cellular Mesmerize. I WARN THIS WORKS BUT THERE ARE PROS AND CONS TO DOING THIS. To date there is NO, I REPEAT NO WAY to date to go back from this procedure to a MESMERIZE. Someone may have a way but I have not seen or found it yet. I do believe it is only a matter of time before the DEV'S come up with a restore and then you could go back to stock. SUMMARY= THERE IS NO WAY TO DATE TO REVERSE THIS PROCEDURE !!! DO AT OWN RISK !!!
First thing you need to do is download ROM MANAGER from the market and put the App on the SD Card for later install. Next Download this file here>>>>NO HYPER LINKS COPY AND PASTE IN BROWSER TO DOWNLOAD
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Fascinate Files/update.zip ---- to the ROOT of your SD Card it is a file called "UPDATE.ZIP" "DO NOT RENAME" put that on there and do not remove it you need it do a restore to access Clockwork later. This is where you need to have this located on SD. ---- /sdcard/update.zip.
Second you need to download...DI01 update with root and busybox here>>>>http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S7IFCKX0
Important:"DO NOT RENAME" and DO NOT put this on the root of your sdcard as /sdcard/update.zip. That's where clockworkmod lives. PUT IN FOLDER you name what ever on SD Card. You will need to go here later in the post to install this in step#12
/sdcard/"FOLDER YOU NAME"/update.zip.
Next thing you need the samsung drivers for windows for this to work. Those can be found on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=779238 [this page has a good write up on how to down load and install.] or direct link BELOW>>>> Thank you DIRRK XDA member.
Download and Install Samsung Drivers to your WINDOWS PC this whole procedure was done on a WINDOWS 7 PC. WARNING: You need different drivers for mac/Linux and I do not know where to get them as I have only a WINDOWS PC.

Next download ODIN and run. Make sure ODIN sees your phone by putting phone in DOWNLOAD MODE by pulling battery LEAVE OUT. Run ODIN. HOLD VOL DOWN AND PLUG INTO PC with cable that came with phone, a yellow rectangle with id# means ODIN sees it----once this is connected DO NOT UNPLUG UNTIL ODIN IS FINISHED. If you do you will see a PC connected to a phone by a triangle this means you prematurely unplugged and you will need to re-flash whichever step failed to flash. It is only OK to unplug once a step is finished and Odin says reset in blue, but you do not need to you can load the next file and go. But I've got steps below so if you are here you didn't read entire post. CAREFUL Now follow step 4.1
ONLY FLASH ONE OF THESE AT A TIME. START WITH THE /SYSTEM ODIN AND WORK YOUR WAY DOWN THE LIST.---You do not just flash the pit file it is used with the other files like system, kernel, and recovery. ****FILES BELOW STEPS****READ ENTIRE POST BEFORE USING ODIN AND KNOW THE RISKS*************************************
************************ONCE YOU FLASH ANYTHING YOU CAN NOT GO BACK YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE**********************************************
************************ONCE YOU FLASH ANYTHING YOU CAN NOT GO BACK YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE**********************************************
Steps:
1. Pull battery from device
2. Open Odin on desktop
3. Hold volume down button and plug device into computer-This will place the device into download mode
4. Verify device shows up in Odin ---This should be a yellow rectangle with id #----As well the phone will also say download mode with a yellow triangle on it
4.1: Select PIT button
4.2: Select PIT file downloaded from this post and load it into Odin. (I Never loaded the pit file when I did this in Odin and worked fine for me but from what I understand it is good practice to do so to Quote a post ---"You need to load the pit file into Odin---Missing these steps usually results in major FC hell issues." Thanks PHOENIXPATH senior member XDA
4.1: To Flash the "Stock-i500-VZW-System.tar.md5" file you,
5. Click "PDA" button in Odin ---MAKE SURE YOU ONLY USE PDA "DO NOT USE PHONE" YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
6. Select "Stock-i500-VZW-System.tar.md5" from where you downloaded it
7. Click "Start" This will reboot your phone when complete. This flashes both the kernel and the recovery partition to enable you to flash update.zips signed with test keys. ---When done ODIN should say reset leave pit alone and load next file of the three needed to be flashed.(YOU MAY NEED TO UNPLUG and REDO STEPS 1-4 AGAIN)and jump/proceed to step#8 and continue on.
8. Flash "Stock-i500-VZW-Kernel.tar.md5" when done says reset move to next step.
8.1 Flash "Stock-i500-VZW-Recovery.tar.md5" when done says reset move to next step.
9. Flash "CWMrecovery.tar" ----THANK YOU JT1134 Senior member XDA
10. Replace the battery and Boot in to Recovery= HOLD VOL UP + VOL DOWN same time and PRESS POWER, all three need to be pushed to enter recovery.
11. In recovery navigate UP=vol. up/ DOWN=vol. down /ENTER=home key----You need to select "apply sdcard:UPDATE.ZIP" on ROOT of SD Card to enter the next recovery screen.
12.In this recovery "CLOCKWORK RECOVERY" navigation is different UP/DOWN=SAME but ENTER=power key---you need to navigate to the "ADVANCED" and then apply "WIPE DALVIK CACHE" when done select "REBOOT RECOVERY" (brings you to stock recovery) navigate to "WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET" once done go to "APPLY SDCARD UPDATE.ZIP" then "INSTALL ZIP FROM SD CARD" once there select "CHOOSE ZIP FROM SD CARD" navigate to the folder "YOU GAVE A NAME TO" and inside is the 2nd "UPDATE.ZIP" you put there and select it...wait until it is finnished...once done.."GO BACK"and"GO BACK AGAIN" then select "REBOOT SYSTEM NOW"
13. Enjoy your stock Fascinate phone with DI01 update and root and busybox . You still will have phone call ability but a couple of apps like contacts backup and vcast are "Verizon" and we at US Cellular can not use. But once you install custom ROMS in Rom Manager you will be able to get roms with them removed or get apps to shut down/freeze them and sub. them out.
Alot of the ROMS have apps taken from the MESMERIZE so this is not really an issue at least not to me.
INSTALL ROM MANAGER FROM SD CARD OR LOAD TO PHONE FROM PC AND INSTALL ON PHONE......
NOW GO INTO ROM MANAGER AND "BACKUP CURRENT ROM" so any changes made from here you can get back to this point.....once done you can NOW LOAD CUSTOM ROMS,KERNELS AND ENJOY THE HELL OUT OF YOUR "FASCINATED-MESMERIZE"
Buy the latest PRO version of ROM MANAGER and use to upgrade kernels thru clockwork or load roms in rom manager......
These are the files to put in ODIN PDA Flashing one at a time with the PIT file. ONLY USE PIT AND PDA......You have been warned again. PS-NEVER DUMP IN ODIN,and do not check anything but PDA AND PIT...there are things checked in ODIN when it loads leave them alone.
Download: "To PC for use in ODIN before you begin"
Odin: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Odin Files/Odin3 v1.3.exe -This is program to use to flash.

Odin Clockwork recovery file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/CWMrecovery.tar ------THIS IS FOURTH ONE I FLASHED.
PIT file for use in Odin Restores: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Odin Files/Stock-i500-VZW-pit.pit ----THIS IS PIT TO USE "WITH" ABOVE FILES.

After bdemartino wrote his AWESOME thread for the Mesmerize it seemed only fitting that the Showcase get their very own... And since his Thread was Flawless, with his permission I'm mostly copy/pasting word for word. as I am copying most of this from elijablake . . . so thanks this thread needs some editing, and I will be working on that in the future . . . . specifically the CWM / ROM manager which will not work. I could use some assistance in rewriting that part. TY!

Also, read the Glossary for definitions and such. I was not the sharpest tool in the shed and it took me a while to find this . . .
Disclaimers
CSOUTH IS RELEASEING 2.2 UPDATE THIS WEEK (6/26). You may just want to wait for that to be released. This thread will be updated when the release occurs as how to flash recovery that you can flash roms with etc.
Keep in mind there are many variations to each step, this is what worked for me the easiest. READ ALOT BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ANYTHING!!
There is always the disclaimer that attempting any of this can and will make your phone dysfunctional and or possibly bricked beyond repair (but most likely just dysfunctional which is a pain in the arse to deal with) if you do not follow steps completely (and of a trustworthy source such as xda - ehm and in the appropriate forum ).
Steps to get to 2.2 (EB11) on your phone:
**Please note that the links were removed by CSouth for copyright (COPY WRONG *****ES) reasons. So if you can find the files somewhere (ahem . . . ) then you can follow these steps. THIS GUIDE IS PURELY FOR EDUCATIONAL VALUE, I DO NOT ADVOCATE BREAKING COPYRIGHT LAW.
I highly recommend using Heimdall rather than Odin. Don't ask me why . . . maybe because it has a command line utility and it is cross platform. So my instructions will be for using Heimdall.
After you have the downloaded files (from wherever you might have gotten them, you bad bad person) unzip and look for the following files:
-factoryfs.rfs
-modem.bin
-recovery.bin
-zImage
1) Put your phone in download mode by powering down your device, removing the battery, connecting the USB to your computer, and holding the volume down button. It shouldn't take long. You should see a little Android with a shovel.
2) In Heimdall, if using the GUI, put all of the files in their obviously appropriate spots. Don't worry if not everything is filled, just use the files that you have. (You should be using the repartition with the .pit file, the zImage with the Kernel, the recovery, and the modem)
If using the command line utility, cd to the directory where you unzipped the files and
Code:
heimdall flash --repartition --pit atlas_v2.2.1.pit --factoryfs factoryfs.rfs --kernel zImage --modem modem.bin --recovery recovery.bin
Wait for the process to finish, your phone will reboot at the end.
3. That is all, now your phone is updated to 2.2.1. Put the battery back in and boot your new shiny toy!
DO NOT DISCONNECT USB DURING THIS PROCESS AS IT COULD BE POTENTIALLY DISASTROUS!!! DON'T EVEN TOUCH IT AS I HAVE FOUND THE USB CONNECTION TO BE A BIT FLAKY!
Also, it is ok if it takes your phone what seems like forever to boot. This happens whenever you install a new kernel, just be patient.
If you have gotten the most updated batch of files, you should have the proper recovery to begin flashing. If not, well seek help . . . You should have RED RECOVERY!
See here for more information about CWM or go on irc.
To access recovery, you can use the three finger method. (Hold down the volume up and down keys and the power button all at the same time when you're turning your phone on) Once you see the Samsung splash screen you can remove your finger from the power button, but keep holding down both volume keys.
You should then go here to check out themes and mods.
Steps For Rooting either 2.1 or 2.2.1
Basically all this means is gaining the ability to give programs/apps and yourself SuperUser access (equivalent of being admin in windows) and also the ability to flash roms via recovery, detailed below.
**NOTE: most custom roms come rooted, so if you are installing a custom rom in 2.2.1, you most likely don't have to go through these steps. Just flash to the ROM you want . . . ***
The easiest way to root is through the z4root.apk. (an application that will run right on your phone)
Download Here
After download, put z4root.apk on your SD card root directory
Then make sure in Settings->Applications that the "Unknown sources" box is checked.
If you don't have a file manager, download a free one from the market, using the file manager navigate to the z4root.apk and select to install it. Note: If you need help at this step, no offense I would suggest getting someone with more experience to help you continue on. I'm serious here
Reboot your phone
After it boots, open the z4root app and press root. At this point it is going to hang, give it 2 minutes and pull the battery. Count to 10, put it back in and turn it on. - This is normal
After your phone boots open z4root again and click root, this time it will run no problems and phone will reboot.
NOTE**IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH z4root: "give Super One Click a try. It's a package you have to download to your computer, but you get to see more of what's actually going on so you know where it's at in the process. I have only used up to version 1.5.5, and I know that version is very capable for the Showcase. It is located here."-This Information provided by phidelt82**
Once you are rooted (you will see the superuser icon in your apps, it will show apps you've given that permission to... eventually) you will need to make sure you have a file manager that can request root permissions (read/write) before you will be able to complete the next step. Search the market for "root file manager" and pick one to download and install.
I use Root Explorer
It's a few bucks, but there's hardly a day that goes by when I don't use it.. (Well worth the money)
THE ECLAIR SECTION IS REMOVED AS CSOUTH IS RELEASING UPDATE THIS WEEK (6/27)

It seem everyone forgot about the Samsung Showcase Galaxy S Generic CDMA.
I managed to Root it flash CWMR and flash TSM TW 4.0 ROM. but then try to go back to stock and lost 3G. So I returned it and get a new one. No more mods for me I'm done no one cares about Generic CDMA.
Can someone provide directions to install a custom rom for a Showcase running stock 2.3.4? I don't have root. I'd really appreciate any help!
ROM for recovery G2X under the NVFLASH
This method necessary!
If the device is not loaded and not firmware in other ways! (If you downloaded the wrong firmware in the device)
I took the unpacked program files KDZ and added to them NVFlash and created BAT file!
Download ROM: http://www.mediafire.com/?wfokxjxi7rfoaey
Mirror: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C5LBU3DS
Download APX driver: http://www.mediafire.com/?k559zgjlqkd5ted
Installation Instructions:
Download both files
Unpack it to the C drive to their respective folder
Remove the battery
Hold Vol Up/Down (and keep them held)
Insert the USB cable
Install APX driver from the your APX folder
For windows 7(and vista? please confirm):
Open Device Manager in Windows and you should see "APX Device" listed with an error
Right click on the APX device
Select 'Update driver software'
Select 'Let me pick...'
Select 'Have disk'
Browse to directory you extracted the APX Driver
Select the *entire* 'APX Driver' folder
Accept any warnings, including the big red alert (you may need to disable UAC)
Now in Device Manager under 'USB Controllers' you should have an 'NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for mobile devices'
If not, uninstall the driver, reboot, rinse and repeat
Unplug everything
Hold Vol Up/Down (and keep them held)
Insert USB cable
open your ROM folder:
Run Flash.bat file and wait for the process
After the logo appears on the LG phone
Unplug USB cable
Insert the battery
enjoy!
After that, I recommend to firmware device with help programms KDZ or LG Mobile Update

Can't wait to check this out when I get home later. Regarding the kdz file, what exactly were you able to unpack from it? I've been able to extract 2 files (a very large .wbd file and a .dll file) but I couldn't figure out how to unpack them further, specifically the .wdb file.

Can you post the DLL for the G2X so we can use the LG Utilities to unpack KDZ files for this device please. So far we have been unable to get the proper DLL that enables us to unpack these files. If you unpacked the KDZ you must have the DLL unless you used another method to extract the files from the KDZ. Please elaborate on how you accomplished this. Both phburks and I have been working on this and so far we have had no success.

It is for people that have mucked up their phones to the point where LG Updater and KDZ Flash are not possible. This can be caused by many issues including, but not limited to, people flashing the O2X baseband to a G2X device. This method is purported to flash the entire Gingerbread ROM at the lowest possible hardware level. Hopefully this method is legit, but nobody has confirmed they have done it yet with the exception of the OP. Yes it is similar to ODIN for the Samsung but operating at an even lower level. With the NVFlash capability Tegra2 devices are virtually unbrickable.

Yes. It is almost as good as JTAG flashing the device. For Galaxy S devices using ODIN you still have to have the 'software download' mode working in the ROM and it is possible to brick a Galaxy S beyond the point of even getting this mode to be accessible leaving you the only way to fix the device through disassembling it and flashing via the JTAG pads. Using the NVFlash method you are flashing directly to the hardware through they Hynix flashing chip. I had another phone with a similar capability (I-Mobile i858 - Yuhua Touchstone device) and no matter how badly I F'd it up (I was developing custom roms for it) I had the similar low level flashing tool that could reflash the phone to stock so I could start over with a clean slate. If this method is legit, this is a big boon to the dev community for this device.

So you got them after the LG Updater extracted the KDZ into its component files. phburks and I didn't get that far as we didn't want to connect our already updated devices to the updater. To get to the point you did where you could grab the individual files you would have had to click the start update button. Good work.
I have 7-zip on my computer but I am unable to open up the file I just downloaded. Can you put it in another format and upload to megaupload or mediafire please? I don't want to go through that Russian site again as I got an invalid download. Also, please post the baseband file as a separate download.

i'll try it out and report back
........... Works like a charm
here mirror link

What we really need is for someone to tell us how to create the config files for NVFlash so we can flash the baseband only. The new baseband is there and named 'P999_MDM.bin' if I am remembering correctly. No reason to flash an entire ROM when all someone wants is the updated baseband. If we can get the older baseband file also this tool could be used to revert the baseband also, if someone wanted to do that.

You don't have to buy anything. You just click on one sponsor site and it opens a new window. Thirty seconds later it will enable a download link. You need to click download two or three times if I remember correctly. I am at work now. I can mirror it in about ten hours if nobody else has done it yet. I looked at the files briefly and it looks legit.

Good question - that is what I am looking for rather then having to mess with the nvflash commands directly.
Update - this setup is similar to Paul's stock ROM recovery setup on modeco.com. As with his, you only have to "Run Flash.bat file and wait for the process". When I could not get off of the LGupdater screen by any other means, I ran this file from his post and it ran flawlessly - but of course I ended up with a 990's device. I tried to get back with other tools and firmware, but was never able to do it.
If this works OK, you would be able to restore your data, apps, or a nandroid and you are back in business.
I spent a week trying to restore my original (and best device as it turns out), so I am not going to fool with this right now myself. I did compare the config files from bot Paul's and this firmware and they are different - which looks real promising, as they are different.
HELP! I tried to use this and the tool failed, now I am getting ZERO response from the device. I can't even boot to APX. I'm freaking out right now!
EDIT: I managed to get the process restarted and the phone is in the process of rebooting. Hoping for the best.
EDIT 2: Phone booted up and it was all restored but for some reason the baseband was not updated :\
Did you run by using the flash.bat file? Did you hold volume up and down for the entire flash process?

Did you have old of new baseband on before flashing? What was the state of your G2X before running this?
UPDATE: It appears that this works - but would like to 100% confirm. After all the disasters that occurred from running the LGupdater tool, this would be an important fix and should be stickied at some point. Current members know of the updater problems, but new buyers and member may not - so many may still have this problem down the road.
Therefore, I believe this is an important enough item to bring to closure and make readily available.
U saved my phone's life
THANK YOU THANK YOU
followed instructions restored completley to stock just like how i got phone out of box 2 weeks ago.
I was running eaglesblood v8 and had altered the vold.fstab file to switch mounts
from sdcard to internal and after that point i rebooted and media scanner said damaged sd card well i figured it just to be like an extension of a permission of sorts. and thought if formated it would the paths would switch no problem.
im actually kind of having a hard time rembering exactly what steps i did take to **** it up royally. but went into clockwork 5 to flash another rom from internal storage or same i cant rember now and did factory reset then all hell broke loose .
couldnt mount nothing except for system i tried formating sd card even though i dont have one probally ended up formating internal lol. formated system,
re flashed all recoverie versions including stock. i was getting so mad i called google HA by the way they got some pretty good music when u have to hold.
only thing i didnt try was to load up a rom on sd card and mount that but i really doubt it would have worked and plus i couldnt even use phone to do it lol
i need to go buy drive saved me some serious cash I would say this should be enough confirmation!!
My infuse when turned on goes to a screen that looks like phone ! pc with the message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". So this happens even when I try and go to download mode or recovery mode. Basically as soon as I hit the power button. I'm really freaking out. It was rooted and I was doing following this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
Then the problems started when my computer didn't recognize the phone in download mode. and then it was recognized so I started the Odin flash. Then it froze at cache.rts (I believe that's what Odin said, I can't get to it anymore)...So I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and did it again and it got to factoryfs.rfs before it froze there for a really long time. So I unplugged it and tried to do GTG Ultimate Unbrick...but I can't get the .zip file to open. My computer keeps telling me "Can Not Open ____ as archive". I re-downloaded it and same result. Is there anything I can do to save my phone? I'm a real idiot and this kind of stuff always happens to me no matter how much I read up on something and make sure I'm doing it right. I would really appreciate a little help though, thanks!
I actually got it downloaded and followed Rammstein874's video on youtube on how to do it and I am once again stuck on factoryfs.rfs :-(
What can I do at this point? It is still stuck at the Phone-!-PC screen when I try to go to download mode. Please help, I'm starting to get pretty worried about this...
When your screen is phone!computer, that's an alternative version of download mode. You can either use ODIN or heimdall back to stock. Just plug it in via usb, allow odin/heimdall to recognize it and start flashing.
This is correct....if you see those pic on your phone that is a form of download...i would run the one click method...

Sorry I was at work all day.
This is the video link I used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1HgcZrYR_4
I am also looking at the following one-click method posts:
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
* I used the above link (or tried) and it didn't seem to work either. I downloaded Heimdall Suite for Windows 64bit and then installed the drivers and plugged in my phone in download mode. But then I was unable to get it started...I used the "Stock_SGH_I997_UCLB3_Repartition-One-Click.jar" file I found on mediafire (because all of these posts link to mediaupload which is no longer working). Anyway, so I tried to run Heimdall-frontend.exe on windows and once it opened up I connected my phone (nothing turns green like the post says) and hit browse. I chose the jar file aforementioned and it said "tar header contained invalid file size."
So if someone could point me toward a more up to date thread if I'm using the wrong one and kind of explain to me how to get around the other problem I'm having with the jar file then I would be forever appreciative
Not sure what you did...not saying you did something wrong but here is what I do, below are how i perform using qkster's method...
The USB + Volume Down + Volume Up Method: Download mode (Noticeable by an Android robot digging with a shovel) is reached by taking everything out (Battery, SIM, MicroSD). plug in the USB cable to your computer and phone then putting in battery at the same time Holding the volume buttons both up and down, (Don't press the power button at all in this method).
How to INSTALL:
1. Put your phone into Download Mode.
2. If you have not used Heimdall, you will need to set up the driver for device recognition.
3. Once your device is connected, the DEVICE STATUS should show: CONNECTED. The long FLASH bar will also turn on for flashing.
4. Click on the FLASH button. (In my opinion: I recommend that you do this in a safe environment. Do not disturb your phone will flashing this firmware. Turn off Antivirus. Do not run any other programs, upload/download/youtube/burning DVD etc)
5. Once it has completed, your phone will reboot. You will hopefully see the ATT logo and reboot into STOCK UCLB3.
6. If it did not work, you will have to put it back into DOWNLOAD mode and reflash a second time, with the FLASH BOOTLOADER box checked. This is more likely if you never had proper Gingerbread bootloaders on your phone, if you are coming from FROYO or if you never had Odin a Gingerbread leak to get your bootloaders.
download this file for your one click to stock...and using above directions...
once that is done and you want to put CWM mod on for flashing a custom ROM, same directions to get in to download mod...
download this file to use the one click to put CWM mod on your phone
here is the link where i took all this...

Right, I did those things from that link itself. I think the problem is actually with how I'm using Heimdall. I downloaded the suite version from here: http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
I also downloaded Microsoft Visual Studio C++. So I feel like it should be working...but the problem comes when I hit browse to attach the jar file you linked to. It says the "tar header file size was incorrect"...so am I doing something wrong in the way that I'm attaching the jar file to go back to stock? Could you or someone else please confirm that process and/or check the jar file for me to make sure it's still up-to-date? Sorry for the trouble, I'm just not sure what I can do at this point if I can't get Heimdall working. I can't flash after I attach the jar file with the error message either, it doesn't recognize my phone when it is attached in download mode (which is coming up just fine now without the phone!pc thing for some reason).

Yeah..that's where I wasn't sure what sf was doing.
the jar file is self executable. When you click on the jar file, there is a load up delay.
Then should be be ready.
You then hook up the phone.
I've not seen in tar header file size error.
Sf should not be trying to stick the 1-click file into heimdall front-end.
It's a single self executable jar file..the is no other dependencies...the only other situation I can think of is maybe putting the 1-click jar file onto a different PC and try running it there.

Oh man I had no idea...I was so mixed up by trying to educate myself with so many posts about using Heimdall. I thought I had to download Heimdall separately and attach the jar file or something. But okay so I ran the one-click. It failed the first time (expected) and then I checked the flash bootloaders box and hit flash again. Then it stopped at installing drivers and prompted me to install the drivers on the following prompt. So I did that and then it said installed drivers successfully and I hit close. Then nothing happens. So what do I do at this point? I'm probably being an idiot again but I really appreciate you guys trying to help me out. After fooling around with CyanogenMod, I decided that I want to put the stock firmware back on my P3113. So I acquired the firmware from here: hxxp://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-P3113 (which I then unpacked) and JODIN3 (Linux64) release 1035. I've already installed Heimdall with the packages pointed to from hxxp://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/.
I started JODIN3, pressed the PDA button, and gave it the file "HOME_XAR_P3113UEUCMK3_1978026_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5". It wants to get a pit file from the device. I let it do that and put the tablet back into download mode. Then I pressed "start". JODIN3 then complained that the firmware file was corrupt. I tried a few more times. The unzip program on my computer seemed satisfied that the zipfile was not corrupt. Tar seemed satisfied that the tar file within was not corrupt.
I then tried feeding JODIN3 the zipfile itself. That caused JODIN3 to ask to download a pit, which I allowed. I pressed "start" and then it complained that the pit file was corrupt.
After repeating the above several times, I tried again with the .tar.md5 file. That seemed to do something. The spew in the xterm in which I
started JODIN3 flashed the names of the six file contained within. The spew then kept printing stuff about "heimdall detect" confirming that a
device was attached. Nothing new was printed to the JODIN3 GUI. I let it sit there for 30 minutes. Nothing -- not even a complaint of
something being corrupt. Scrolling back in the xterm, I saw this:

Now, the questions: Am I doing anything wrong here? Can somone suggest a known-good version of JODIN3? I quick check of my system gives me to reason to suspect I'm legitimately out of memory.
Using regular Odin isn't an option because I don't use Windows and I can't make it work with Virtualbox. I hear there are problems inherent to emulation that prevent Odin from working correctly there. Trying to run the plain jar file doesn't work because it complains that it needs a newer version of Java. I'm running OpenJDK7 and that seems to be what the Linux64 package uses. Someone, please help me out here.

So, the last reply to this thread branch was nearly a year ago. I'm having identical difficulties. Every time I download the pit file from my Galaxy S3 and hit the start button I get the corrupt pit file error message. Additionally, I have an impossible time getting jOdin3 to pick up my phone after the reboot to pull the pit file. If this is a Heimdall shortcoming it makes the an impossibly useless utility for me, at least for the time being.
I'm running Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid vervet? friends don't let friends use Windows...) with all the latest updates. I've downloaded and built Heimdall and Heimdall-frontend. The binaries are in my shell's PATH variable, as is that of the platform-tools folder for the android sdk. I have the latest java update from the oracle site, both x64 and i386 libraries.
Anyway, I guess I'm not really expecting a fix or help in this regard. This is more just sort of a status ping with regards to the issue. I'm going to go back to using Heimdall-frontend directly. I had to package the firmware I wanted to flash so I could use jOdin3 anyway. I just wanted to avoid the desmadre that happens sometimes when flashing firmware from Heimdall (seems to hang after trying to flash a modem partition, sometimes, and I'm not at all sure I can characterize the conditions of the failure). I'm trying to take my UCUFNE4 I747 firmware back to a T-Mobile T999UCALJ2 setup which purportedly enables the AWS/LTE 1700/2100 band AND unlocks the unit to T-Mobile (I'm a feeling a bit incredulous at this point....). And, yes, I've pulled the aboot.img file out of the package I'm installing. God forbid I step on the Samsung/Qualcomm/ATT locked primary bootloader and brick my second GS3 (8}
Hasn't seemed to be an issue doing this before, I took it back to DLK3 to see if I could get the hidden service menus back, unfortunately to no avail. At this point I just want to cut to the chase. I've spent a month of more than full time effort getting to the point I'm comfortable with what I'm about to do, although I still have nagging doubts and a feeling of uncertainty, lol. At this point I'm about ready to offer myself back to the development gods and take on some real work. I vowed I'd NEVER go back to being a software developer after the stock market crash of 2001 cost me my house et al and left me homeless (another long saga for another time and place)...
'nuf said, off to the races. See you on the other side of Heimdall
BTW, good work Adam, I am impressed! just chagrined that this won't serve my current purposes. peace out
one last thing, if anyone knows how I can change the ro.anyprop properties in the build props file so they stick (they didn't from a terminal emulator via the setprop command), please inform me. I want my phone to tell the world it's a(n aboriginal) TMO unit even though it's really a red-headed step child. Quality goes in before the label goes on....

Anyway, I guess I'm not really expecting a fix or help in this regard. This is more just sort of a status ping with regards to the issue. I'm going to go back to using Heimdall-frontend directly. I had to package the firmware I wanted to flash so I could use jOdin3 anyway. You are correct. I always use Heimdall Frontend to flash Samsung on Linux. OP, do you need a pit file?
