Nice, thanks DG.
To run ADB do you have to be in any particular mode in recovery? I am on the initial screen and tried to do adb devices and it doesnt show my device.

might want to check and make sure you have the drivers installed if you are on windows.
Dont have to do anything special, it starts adb when you boot into recovery.
Does the sd card mount works?

Yes, You can mount USB Storage and copy files back and forth when in Recovery. CWM cant do that. Its broken in that fashion.
Even the prior 2.17 version of twrp is broken too.
Bryan fixed it. Its the most important feature for me! (Well besides being able to use it to flash, lol)
YES!!!!!!!! Thank u so much. This makes things SO much easier. Now if I could just get root to try it

Quick question and easy fix I bet.
fastboot hangs at <waiting for a device>
But I can adb shell etc? Ideas?

Awsome!! Thanks!
Thank you! working awesome and a much needed feature (was super annoying to have to boot up the phone in order to transfer files that i want to flash from recovery anyways)
i had 5.8.2.7 and i flashed to 5.8.4.0 and now when i try to boot into recovery it just sits at the HTC screen for a while and then reboots
Use twrp instead. Clockwork isn't officially supported on our phone. Twrp is.
That or just fast boot into recovery. Is that way not working either?

The only way I've had any success getting into Recovery with CWM is to go into Rom Manager and boot into recovery from there.

I had exactly the same problem, the only thing that ended up working for me was installing Goomanager and doing it from there.
Menu > Install OpenRecoveryScript. This will install TWRP, and worked a treat for me.
I've noticed that when you first do the fastboot flash recovery that when you adb reboot into recovery, or even manually boot into recovery, it won't boot into it the first time. It will after you try again though. This has happened on 3 One X's so I know it's not a single phone specific thing.
Use TWRP, but don't be lazy and do it from the app, it didn't work for me, and just doesn't feel as reliable as my trusty adb commands. If you need help on what commands, PM me. Only three I used, without a hitch.
I used goomanager to install TWRP and it worked just fine.

Flashing a recovery from fastboot is not being lazy. There's actually more work involved than installing from an app. I think you have it the other way around.

Are both recoveries able to install the same roms? or are some roms only able to be installed through CWM or TWRP?
i'm assuming they both install the same way, so all roms should work regardless. It's just that rom threads say "install using clockwork", but i guess that's just a common phrase now..

yeah install using clockwork is common language for use recovery, since cwm is the more well known one.
Just as an opinion, TWRP looks better to me, because its not all just clicks and such, TWRP you slide to confirm, you can flash multiple .zips one after the other (Useful for AOSP roms where you need GAPPS, and if you change the kernel like I do) etc.
Also, as stated before, its an official recovery on our devices, so we get full support should bugs arise.

Oh no worries bro, sounds different in my head but I see what you're saying.
I have soft bricked my phone 3 times due to my recovery not sticking. I followed the OneXRoot.com instructions. When I flashed the TWRP on the terminal ( I use mac) it says sending ok booting ok then boots onto the recovery. Once I restart the phone and try to get back in recovery its either a bootloop or black screen, phone and red triangle. I've tried ./fastboot-mac flash and boot with the .IMG file name. Please help.

I think a good first step is to verify you're rooted and the bootloader is still unlocked.
pushing an image to the phone SHOULD fail if it's locked but stranger stuff has happened

Now that s-off has been released, here's a working TWRP for the Verizon M8.
FYI: Because I'm lazy I did not build this from source. I simply ported the GSM twrp and replaced the variant specific bits with our stuff. I have also not extensively tested this, so beware!
Pre-Requisites:
- s-off (I'm sure you can use the search button and figure out how to do this)
- fastboot and adb binaries (I'm sure you can use the search button and figure out how to do this)
- download this: deleted
Boot into fastboot mode:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Install the img downloaded from above:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.3-m8vzw-UNOFFICIAL.img
You may then either boot back into your rom using: fastboot reboot
or
Use the menu in the bootloader to reboot or (via the HBOOT menu) reboot into recovery
Sweet. Thanks

CM is having a new fstab layout for a number of devices. One of these changes include a by-name partition support (instead of say mmcblk0p33 called as "system"). you need this recovery to flash CM from today, and probably all 4.4.2 ROMs soon
That's the major change...other than that: adb fixes (big issue for me while trying to pull kmesg logs for Sense 6 building :fingers-crossed, LED fixes, dual core support, fix of backup and restoration of encrypted backups
