Ok, so I am on my second One X now and both have had more than 1 dead/stuck pixel. You probably have some too and just haven't noticed it yet. The easiest way to check is to set the brightness to max then set the background to full black (you can get dead pixel testers from the market). You will see small bright spots. Look closely and maybe you might have to tilt the phone to slight angles to catch the sub pixels.
One phone I have has 13 bad pixels and the other has 3. Terrible QC.
My second replacement device had a handful of buggy pixels. They would flash on certain backgrounds. Got my third replacement, and it is perfect. I have no intention of painstakingly examining for ones I can't see. If I can't see them I don't want to know about them.
Rabble rabble rabble.
If i have to do all that to notice them then I am not worried about it.

The thing is you will eventually notice them and then by then it might be too late to exchange it. It's not like setting the screen to max brightness and a solid black background is something that will never happen on your device...
I have only one. I can only see it if i look for it hard though at an angle. Not enough for me to go out and replace risking a worse one. But kinda discouraging... Still in my 30 to decide if to keep in general

No no, it really is.
I have zero. I have ocd about dead pixles and have been checking every other day

I must have got lucky because my One X doesn't seem to have any dead or stuck pixels. I remember my PSP having multiple stuck pixels and that drove me crazy each time I used it because a couple were in the middle of the screen.
my first one had one dead pixel and back light bleed on the bottom, replaced it and my replacement is perfect.

No dead pixels here. Like davis, I had a stuck pixel on my PSP and it drove me nuts (replacement screen i got for 40$ from hong kong so nbd) Theres a tiny scratch in the glass of my Captivate which holds skin oil and refracts different colors like a CRT screen would do. That is by far much more annoying to me.
I got my phone yesterday and didnt notice it then, but now I see a dead pixel right smack in the center of the screen. It only shows on much lighter backgrounds, but my eyes keep gravitating to it. I might have to get it replaced. I hate that because I have my phone completely how I want it set up right now.

exactly what i was thinking
I found one that I can see ONLY when I use a screen test app on black background in the top right corner...going to exchange it. It's free to do so...so why the hell not?
Wow. This thread had me worried, as I've not closely examined my display yet.
I used a dead pixel tester from the market. Set brightness to 100%. The app cycled through several colors, including black and white.
I have 0 dead\stuck pixels. What a relief
No dead pixels for me either!

Dude, I remember buying the original psp on launch from my local bestbuy, bought the extended warranty they offered for up to 2 years and took my psp back to them after a 1.5 years and switched for a brand new one. My problem was 2 dead pixels on the bottom of the screen.
I've got one dead pixel. Either that or it's a piece of dust. Prolly dust since it's grey and doesn't really light up. Luckily it's in the top left corner and I have a grey widget there. You can't really see it.
*looks for it*
Actually... I can't find it today. It was there before, I swear.
Maybe it was actually dust....

Checked the first day. Found none. Not going to be obsessively looking for one at this point. Had a little light bleed at the bottom, but i turned off the backlight on the capacitive buttons. I prefer it that way. Better reading/watching experience in dim environments.
Found one in the upper right corner. Impossible to notice unless I have a dark background present. Added with the fact that the screen is super high res its so small that I could care less.
I'm not going to risk receiving a phone with more problems for 1 dead pixel which I barely notice.

I'm on my 3rd (and final) One X but all three I've had haven't had any dead pixels.
Btw can someone post a picture of what the light bleed looks like? I'd like to know if mine has it but I don't know what to look for. Everything seems ok.
After reading many build and quality issues with the 1.73 original shipment handsets, I was wondering if people with the factory 1.85 second shipment handsets are seeing the same issues.
Personally I have a second shipment 1.85 handset and it is very well built, great on battery, no dead pixels on any color, rarely gets hotter than warm, very minimal light bleed on lower right corner on all black screen, no corners lifting up and running like a superstar with clean Rom 3.0(ran outstanding on factory 1.85 also).
Only issue I am having is the phone seems to take longer to charge than my inspire or vivid with real HTC charger. I have tried more than one. Not so long that I think there is an issue, just longer than I have experienced in the past.
Please post your experiences with 1.73 vs 1.85 handsets and maybe we can figure out what has been fixed on the production line so far.
Personally I think they definitely tweaked it and fixed some early build issues.

I had an original 1.73 and dropped it so I replaced it and got a 1.85 device. For me, they are both EXACTLY the same. Never had any issues on the first one.
I got a 1.85 One X about a week ago. Strangely, the box it arrived in was somewhat warm (for whatever reason), and the device was warm when I first took it out of the box, but I don't believe that's affected anything on the phone. Everything seems in good shape with this model; my only question is the light bleed you're referring to on the bottom right corner of the display. I think I have that too. When it's an all black display, or at least all black in the bottom right corner, it seems to be a little bit "brighter" in that area, so to speak. I also notice that the "stage light" arrangement for the backlit display on the bottom of the display (above the capacitive buttons) seems a little brighter in that bottom right corner. Sorry for the rambling, but is that what you're referring to?
On a side note, that "stage light" appearance of the backlights on the bottom of the display are supposed to be like that, according to an HTC Customer Representative. In case any of you were wondering lol.

4 of my HOXs had those "stage lights" as you call them, one didn't have them at all. The one that didn't have them had a really crappy screen that was all washed out and had yellowish whites. All the ones that did have them had vivid colors and bright white whites. Be happy your display is the one with the visible backlights, the other one sucks.
Anyone having the corners of the glass lifting away from the phone issue on the new batch? Mine are all perfect on the 1.85. Any dead pixels or dust issues?

This one that I just got today *seems* perfect. I say seems because as history has taught me 4 times over, only time will tell.
I have a 1.73 and have had zero issues with build, the only issue I had was software (clock not updating time when on wifi and coming out of deep sleep)...which has not returned since the 1.85 update. I have rooted and unlocked bootloader and currently running cleanrom 3.0, standard...and DEV editions! It has never run hot, screen is flawless, and I am happy

I dont think having 1.85 on the phone qualify the device as second shipment. Maybe one of the many numbers on the box would indicate to this. My first was 1.73 but had a dead pixel, then my second was 1.85 and was about the same minus the dead pixel.

I could give you an electron and you would probably find something wrong with it compared to all the other electrons.

As long as the electron had a separating screen, faulty sim reader, terrible battery life and dust under the screen, or a bad vibration motor and overheating problems, then yeah, you're probably right.

i had my first one replaced at bestbuy for dead pixels. He took out a new one x and had dust under the screen. So he set that one aside and gave me another which over all is good. However when I push down on the screen I can see an ink looking blotch show up for a second. Kind of annoying.
Agreed -Does take longer to charge
But I love the battery life on the HOX running 1.85.
I've had mine a couple days before it released on AT&T officially and my co worker has a white One X from the second shipment and our battery life is identical. Give or take an hour or so but build is exactly the same. We do this for a living and are very particular about our devices. I actually swapped mine out twice until I got the perfect one -_-

So glad I DOA'd my phone. Battery life is much better. Haven't had any wifi issues anymore. And the vibrate motor doesn't rattle.
I can't tell the difference between the two build quality wise. I know that I battery life changes drastically from phone to phone. The grey one I had the battery was perfect. I thought it was getting too hot so I exchanged it. Boy do I wish I didn't. These replacements aren't coming close to that battery life. I'm doing all I can to get one that does and hey if AT&T wants to keep sending me replacements then I'll take em.

Hey guys , i think my htc one x screens white is not as white as it should be. my brother has a internation htc one x and his whites are way more superior. maybe color temp on at&t is bit warmer? is there any way to fix it? it getts a lot better at highest brightness.
if you guys can post your settings screen( since it will show good amount of white) snapshot at full brightness and lowest brightness with your room light off ,using some camera , it will be greatly appreciated. this will help me compare my screen.
would have posted mine but i dont have good camera in hand. Will try to get hold of one soon
thanks

Sent from my HTC One X
When I was looking at the one X before I bought mine, the at&t store had 2 on display. One white model and one Grey. The screens on them were TOTALLY different!! The white phone had yellow whites and the Grey phone had perfect beautiful whites. Needless to say I bought a Grey phone because at the store that phone just looked better to me. Lol. Luckily the phone I got has the perfect whites.
People posting pics isn't going to work. They would need to take a picture with the same brand & model camera as you (and same settings), or the white balance will be different. You best bet is to go to the store and compare versus display models, or ask them to unbox one.
Okay so I purchased two nexus 5's about two months ago for my girlfriend and I and it wasn't until yesterday that I had the phones side by side and I noticed that one of phones screens is significantly brighter and has richer colors than the other on the exact same brightness(100%) .. The whites are much whiter on mine as opposed to the other one just not looking as bright Same as colors to.. My friend just bought one last week and his has a dull screen and my other friends is a bright one like mine .. U probably wouldn't notice this unless u had two to compare... Had anyone else noticed this? I looked online and couldn't find anything about this.. Is this a manufacture defect? . I'm asking because I need to buy another and don't want to take the chance of getting one with a dull screen... Thanks!

I have a friend with one that I can check against on Thursday night to let you know what I find.
I understand that there were (at least) two different batches of Nexus 5s.
The one that was released later had larger holes for the mic and speaker and firmer buttons. I am not sure if that is why one is also brighter too.
Were the phones bought at the same time or a couple of months apart?
Which one was brighter? The more recent one or the older one?
There is only one hardware revision for the nexus 5. The larger holes and firmer buttons are just rumors. It just happened to be pure coincidence. I have 2 n5 in the house( one of which is manufactured in February and it has small speaker holes) and they have both different screens as you mentioned. It is not a manufacturing defect. As a matter of fact, all the screens are not the same. Mine has a yellower tint to it but is also brighter. I just use Franco's app to change it to the color I want. Simple.

My first Nexus I was in the first batch could be dimmed till you could almost see nothing using elemental kernel but this Nexus 5 the newer one I just this week with bigger holes and nicer feeling buttons can't not even as close using same kernel

I didn't get to see him last night, maybe this weekend. But I will let you know when I compare them though.
I was able to compare the phones on Monday and they appear to have the same brightness level. He is using stock Kit Kat and I am using Beanstalk ROM on mine and no difference was seen.
Maybe a couple of back lights for the screen are faulty on the dimmer phone??
Did anyone at Google support give any explanations?
i saw a post whether it was here or a different website. someone posted about a yellowish tint. i never noticed it until my roommate got a phone after i did. after looking at his phone, his looked alittle whiter than mine and knew based on the post i may have gotten a yellowish defective screen.
i went on order support chat and explained to them that i ordered this phone at the end of october and that it appears defective. at first they were willing to replace it for me either by sending it to them and they send me another or pay a fee for an advanced exchange and they send me one first.
i explained i purchased this 2 weeks ago and it should still be covered. after which they gave me a code to get a new one without charge. so i ordered the phone and clearly saw a difference that i felt compelled to send to everyone here my results. please refer to the attachments to see the difference.
this could be the reason why battery life was 2 hours of screentime, but i havent had time to test the new ones battery till now
+1 my phone is having the yellow tint and i don't think here in India it is easy to get the phone replaced! i raised a compliant with FlipKart(the online retailer) and they have given me a 2 weeks ETA.
so what i did also install this screen balance app and improved my white balance and it feels better or I have kind of got used to the yellow tint.
when i put my iPhone 6 next to the my Moto X, i can see that Moto X has a yellow screen! wish it was better...
Good luck getting this replaced if you unlocked your bootloader, despite this is clearly unrelated to the bootloader unlocking!!
Honestly, I like to having yellow tint at someday. It giving my eyes easier to using device.
But having a defective device is like cancer affect lifespan. I'd replace defective devices.
There's so many phones out there with that yellow tint. I had to replace Four!!! MXPE s to get a normal white screen..
So yes, what I expect from my hypothesis was correct and my battery is much better

Thanks for this post. I ordered mine from Amazon on wed, got it on thurs and immediately noticed the yellow'ish whites on it. I couldn't get past it so contacted amazon and got an overnighted replacement. To my luck the new one did not have the yellowish screen issue, white is now white. But I've read a bunch of posts on this and they seem to be correct. It's not a defective panel so much as it is a wrong color calibration. I tested this by downloading a screen adjuster app (Screen Adjuster FREE) and adding more blue to the screen calibration and to my surprise the colors looked white again. However, I shouldn't have to use an app to accomplish that. It should be done correctly from the start.
For those who are rooted and running a cm based rom, this may help.
