Audio Stutter Problme with MIUI/CM9/AOKP cROM - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

I am starting this thread coz I have been observing Audio stutter in each & every MIUI/CM9/AOKP cROM made for i9003.
Tried allmost all kind of popular music player available, but none of the player was able to remove the audio stutter.
I tried all possible remedies, like:-
-Removing DSP
-With DSP
-Without any custom equalizer
-Different bit rate for mp3 files
-Different format s of audio files
I asked lot of times in different forums but got no response.
I think this is a very important thing along with other issues like Backlight/Blacklight/Camera/Battery life/smoothness for a cROM.
I hope to get resolution for the same.

Right now there is no solution at all. Dhiru is working on audio files. But he is more worried about kernel 3.0. For camera, hardware acceleration, smoothness kernel 3.0 is the only option.
This thread should be in general section.

Thanx for the reply....!!
I know Dhiru is working very hard and his priorities are different, but this stutter thing is pretty annoying.....!!
I hope i will get my query answered here thats why didnt post in General section. If its violation of forum rule I will move it.

Use a player with buffer like poweramp and set it to the high valor

I flashed beats audio after installing dhiru' s rom... I'm not getting any audio stutter..may b this is the solution ..or not.. I don't know...finally I'm not getting it

Don't use MIUI launcher. (this is the worst)
Delete MusicFx from AOKP/ Dspmanager from ICS.
Use Instinctiv / xPlay Music player (both are free)
Or flash the attached player.
This will reduce the frequency. Does not completely remove it.

Shutter issue was fixed in Alpha 4.

No, It is still there and very irritating too. U hear screeching sounds sometimes. But most of the times it is a stutter.

I have removed Music FX from AOKP rom and installed Instinctiv music player....!!
Now the stutter has gone but, there is a very small break instead of stutter..!!
But anyhow it is way better then the annoying STUTTER sound.
And the interface is great in this player.
Thanx.

The loudness of the stutter is quite low compare to pre aplha 4, but its still there.
Trying different players only reducing the frequency of stutter. Sometimes it is like a break in place of stutter sound.

So this may have something to do with the MP3 decoders. Currently we are using software decoding for all AOSP roms since we don't have a proper functional DSP.
I see no issues with the Audio HAL that might cause the shutter since there is no such issue when dealing with basic sounds like Ringtones or Notifications. Have you tried playing lower bitrate MP3 songs? Does it still shutter?

ur right....!!
I have observed Upto the bitrate of 128KBPS the stutter is very low & with higher bitrate the stutter is very much increased.
But have not tried any MP3 file with the bitrate of below 128kbps, will try to play one to test it.

A workaround:
It's due to the load on the CPU. Generally, the sound chip on a system handles all the decoding and DA conversions, but here, the CPU is taking on the load instead.
Using the "V6 SuperCharger" script and Poweramp's higher priority settings, along with DVC enabled, I've got the stutter down to a minimum (it still stutters when running taxing applications like Chrome Beta). I suggest using the "V6 Supercharger" scripts for now.

With Regards to ICS (This pertains to keeping the default launcher in memory, I find this useful): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16635544&postcount=2
You need to use a Script execution program such as Script Manager (Free - Ad Supported).
Doesn't need to be executed every startup. It's a One-shot type of script.
I recommend reading through the OP before executing.
Cheers!

Atrix 2 Music Player Sound Quality Improvement?

Is there any way to improve the sound quality, its not horrible but Im wondering if it is, on here Ive seen something like this for the galaxy S2
"samsung-galaxy-s2-sii-via-dsp-manager-cyanogenmod-7-music-player" guess you all will have to google it without the quotes because I cant post links right now since Im new, but it should be the first link that comes up.
Do I need to have CyanogenMod installed (Which we cant right now of course) to use this or is it just the player ripped from there and I can install like a regular rooted app
If I'm not mistaken it should just be a simple apk. You can dump it in your system apps folder or install it normally. Those apps.are just heavily skinned and tweaked to work with a broader spectrum of devices. If.you get the music player can u upload it here as well?
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
Yeah, go to settings/audio effects and you can set two different profiles, one for the phone speaker and one for the headphone port, check it out.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
By default the music player has a bunch of horrible sound effects enabled. Turn them off and I think you'll find it's much better.
settings - audio effects
thanx for the input I went through and compared it with the stock and poweramp and im not noticing an extreme improvement in the sound to justify removing the stock music app Ill just stick with poweramp and i did turn off the audio effects and it does sound much better too
Really the music app im referring to isnt that great either to me its simple which is ok but I like the functionality for poweramp better ie.. player screen available when locked etc... but Ill try to remember to post a link up once Im back on my comp but if you dont want to wait for me to post the app up you can google what Ive got in quotes and it should be the first link
PA is my music player of choice too.

I found ICS music player 4.0 .
Remove old version and then copy (with root explorer or else) in system/app reboot and then instal music player.
Your rom must be deoxeded and its work for XXKPQ.
Thank you but there is a newer version of this app out here. Currently I've got Google Music v4.0.9.509 installed.

Inbuilt EQ? Does this matter since we have DSP Manager? I don't think so. A argument for the stock music player is the nice integration into the statusbar, but the rest of the UI in my sight is horrible. It isn't even compatible with changed LCD Density. I feel much more comfortable with the Google Music UI. But that is a personal opinion and thus we can't say this, or stock music, or what else is better.
I've attached the newer version of google music. Extract and simply install. No need to push it anywhere.
EDIT: Upload doesn't work. Everytime the forum says "Upload failed." I'll try later
EDIT2: Upload succeded. P.S. I had two apks when I looked into my download folder one with version 4.0.9.509 and one unnamed that was actually newer: Version 4.1.511
@ taraen
ya...u are right. It depends upon personal opinion but I have opbserved very cleanly that definitely default music player's inbuilt equilizer is really better than any other equilizer that we install in our phone. I usually set this combination in my default music player
euilizer- classic
sound effect- wide
On this combination if u listen music then its really awsome. I tried so many different equilizers but no one matched sound qulity that I got from default music player with above settings.
Edit:
I tried most famous power amp music player. It is really better but not best as compared to default music player in terms of equilizer sound quality.

I have tried around with your settings. They sound good, but hence they don't have any bass they don't fit my taste of music. I simply don't manage to get some bass out of these earphones without making everything sound muffled / dull / how_you_ever_want_to_describe_it

DEV FEEDBACK ABOUT COMMON ISSUES/FIXES:
## APK size
I’ve read the threads at the XDA forum, people curious about the noozy apk file size looking different from Google Play, whether after installed or extracted. It is a compressed archive with obfuscated content. Some people gets 4MB, 5Mb, 6MB more or less, noozy extracts itself some of its important components to use on RAM, apk becomes bigger due to noozy extracting the necessary firmware files from embedded sound chip and store it inside noozy apk for faster process. “noozy” actually relies on stock libs, works as a basic interpreter when emu starts and so you get sound altered by noozy. Thing happens basically like a PlayStation 2 emulator.
## If I push the eq button noozy crashes and restarts
No matter how heavily modded your Android is or if you keep flashing different new sound libraries, noozy will crash all the time due to the emulation failed to work properly.
## It crashed after about 45 minutes playing and android did not showed any warning at all, no pop-up window stating the app was stopped/FC
To run an emu on Android is a challenge, everything is just experimental. When noozy tries to get higher priority negotiating the root audio, if it fails, the whole playback process will just halt. We haven't put a warning message yet, so we put a threshold to prevent your phone going on mute forever until you reboot. So we just try to make something work.
## Everytime that i hit music it FC. Movies works well.
To be frank, noozy is a very basic player with several basic decoders, when noozy finds music files and search for the exact folder ([emmc]mnt/sdcard/music) and finds a music format that is not supported it will just fail (eg .flac format).
## While I play a file with the app in foreground, no problem; if I set it to background, for example i start browser, it continues playing, but after some seconds it stops.
Noozy + noozxoide + soundxemu consume a lot of CPU and RAM. It reaches 30-70MB or more. When the resources are not sufficient, noozy or noozxoide will cut itself and stop everything.
##UI and updates
Regarding to the UI experience, we will fix it as soon as possible, but the audio comes first. Noozy updates will end soon enough after the UI is good. There are also new things in the work related to Noozxoide Labs and Android. We will release the full sound-processor-based, no EQ, no conventional parametric filters. Hope we are not alienating users.
UPDATE 3.0.2.3 [11/10/2012]
- Fixed major bugs (lockscreen)
- Improved & reduced SoundXEMU-ALSA-SPU interpreter keep busying.
- Improved with higher priority on bypassing root-audio-effect and DRC (Dynamic-Range-Compressor) in order to get pure playback from the source keeps away loudness-war. (respect!!!)
- Added algorithm on Acoustic processing for higher vocal definition, and natural warm audio.
- 24bit(float) high-depth precision processing to for clarity and stunning audio.

Okay, it recognizes my mp3's if they are on the root of emmc but won't see them if they are in a folder either in emmc or SD. What's strange is it picks up recordings in a folder just fine and it also finds video's in folders as well. Really strange!

i was reading around,is it the first time it happens to you? should be related to SU binaries, try to update the binaries, open superuser swipe on the left and click on "su binary" option, update. if that doesn't fix the thing, you can try to wipe SU data and reboot. you have to grant again root permissions to your apps tho'. or you can try to use superSU,check here how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30074360&postcount=7

hmmmm,i use Voodoo too and no problem here. btw to keep the Voodoo bass be sure to disable Psychoacustic Processor in Noozy. it may be a general problem then, not related to equalization. can you try to increase your vm.heapsize to 64? you can find it in the build.prop. make a backup of your build.prop first.

This app is a DSP (Digital Signals Processor) which alters Sound characteristics on-the-fly to make it more Crip, Clear, Punchy and Surround... like Dolby/SRS and maybe BBE/VIVA (comparision is not required but its kind-of similar )
This app will not alter the Encoding properties of an Audio flie (256 bit, 16 bit, 48000 khz)
I hope you got the answer.
You can add 4.2.1 to the compatibility list.

if anyone interested in testing on 4.2.1 based on my test criteria (Sound Profiles), PLEASE LET ME KNOW...
I've been using it on 4.2.1 for about a week but I'll try your criteria just for the hell of it.

Is the app effecting PowerAmp player or EQ? The reason I ask is because I've already EQ my poweramp to the best music listening to my taste.

You can defenitly use PowerAmp build in EQ (I am also a Great Fan of PowerAmp).
Noozxoide EIZO-rewire™ PRO will affect the Sound Output (Headphone/Speaker/Bluetooth) system wide. But condition is that other EQ (Standalone/App In-Build) should be disabled or turned off to make this Sound App work otherwise you will have distortion and duplicate processing and resulting in loss of sound clarity and fidelity.
In PowerAmp untick 'DIrect Volume Control'. I bet you will defenitly see the difference and start using Noozxoide EIZO-rewire™ PRO
No need to worry about EQ or DSP and this is the one solution for Ultimate Sound Enhancment.
Confirmed works wonder's on 4.2.1 i had beats installed and this blows it out the water.Much appreciate
Tested it with poweramp and i don't really like it. I still love the poweramp EQ.
Two thumbs up!!
I gotta tell ya, this is the best audio engine I've tested on the nexus 7!! Thank-you much!
will have 2 try this out
why don't you put this thread to app section? it's more suitable than here. by the way this app is very good.:good:
I can't notice any difference on my Galaxy note 10.1 with it's stock video player. Any ideas why?

System wide sound. Should be working.
Please disable or remove any other EQ/DSP you might have and then try.
Check if you need to change "Settings > Sound > Music Effects > Choose Noozxoide EIZO-rewire™ PRO Series”
Found to be working and compatible with following players:
PowerAmp (100% working)
jetAudio (100% working)
BBE SonicMax Pro (100% working)
Neutron Player 32bit/64bit Generic/NEON (100% working)
NRG Player (100% working)
PlayerPro (100% working)
Stock Player (100% working)
@BSDgeek_Jake : there's a small typo in the app (what I keep noticing). The main screen where u have the 3 monitors for config the second should be "Built-in" not Build-in. Sorry if this is rude.

[Q] Music Stuttering with almost every music player

I am experiencing some - a little bit annoying - bugs in music playing, and i hope someone could help me..
I am using stock rom, phone is rooted.
Actually I am using poweramp as main music player (which the better one for solving part of my issues) with the following sound andvanced settings:
-no dvc
- buffer size +750
-Thread Audio: Maximal
and music still stutters everytime my phone locks the screen or randomly every 2-3 minutes (i don't know the exact name of the problem, but it's the same as when you're listening to streaming music and it has some buffer problems, it stops for a nanosecond, but you can clearly hear it)
I tried also different options, as it looks like it could be a ram processing problem, by disabling all unnecessary applications i didn't use, sense included (Using Apex right now). Disabling beats doesn't change a lot (and I bought this phone also because of Beats Audio, I won't turn it off)
I tried also some of the custom roms here on the forum but nothing changed... The biggest "ram-eating" applications i have always on are whatsapp and Fb messenger, i wouldn't think it's because of them.
I tried a lot of combinations, this one looks like the better one (music stutters only sometimes).
This problem doesn't exist only with stock music player - that means there must be a way to solve this - but i don't use it because it lacks of a lot of things.
Has anybody ever experienced this problem? Any help?
If you are rooted, you can give another kernel a try.
Maybe stock, oc kernel like Stockbeats Kernel.
Don't forget the backup before.

I already tried the Flashbeats ROM without success, did it use this kernel?

Flashbeats rom use Flashbeats kernel, Stockbeats kernel is a bit different to that. So maybe try and see if it helps.
I installed it buy still stuttering when i open browser while listening to music or turn on wifi
Maybe try to change oc, govenor and/or I/O scheduler.
If this also don't help, i have no idea atm.

I have the same stuttering problem with stock JB rom and Poweramp and Google Play Music.
I haven't managed to find out cause or solution. Basically any third party music player is practically unusable.
Stock music player works perfectly, also to my ear with superior music quality, but not having gapless playback in 2013 is unacceptable. It's probably the only serious defect of the phone.

Same thing here, also with Poweramp (but Google Play Music has the same problem).

Exactly the same... and I am still hoping someone will find a solution i am no expert, but maybe the fact that with stock music player everything's fine means something...

I am using trickster mod to see if something changes, can you help me with the settings? I don't know what they mean, and where it would be affecting the music stutter..
Right now its settings are:
TCP congestion : cubic
Read Ahead Buffer size: 128
Scheduler: cfq
Block frequency: YES min 384000 max 1566000
Governor: ondemand (changed into performance a couple of times)
MP Decision OFF
Multicore energy saver:1
GPU -Governor: Ondemand
Max frequency 400

Sorry, i don't use Trickster mod. There must somebody else that tell you whats going on.
Hi.
FYI on stock kernel and rom, I tried winamp and there definitely was some stuttering.
On spotify or stock music player no problem at all though.
This behavior doesn't change after the update to Android 4.2. Play Music and Beyondpod still have the stuttering, only the stock music app works fine.
It is also becoming a more significant problem because not only the stock app does not support gapless reproduction, but also when I switched to the Google Now launcher (which I like better than Sense 5) I can no longer use the music widget.

I solved with playerpro & DSP pack, setting audio buffer to maximum and audio priority to maximum + it supports gapless. I have tried millions of possibilities (kernels, deleting stock apps etc.) but this is the only one which seems to be working in my case. Poweramp stutters less than google play music but stutters anyway (even with high audio priority etc)
You can't get the music widget of the stock music player because it's only a sense widget works only on the sense launcher, unfortunately
