Hi everyone!
I was wondering what voice search/virtual assistant you guys use. I use Speaktoit Assistant and I was wondering if you guys use that or something different.
I'd like to know the answer to that too. I've toyed around with a couple (Skyvi, Vlingo, Dragon) but none of those seem to work terribly well. I tried downloading the S-Voice .apk that they put out a couple of days ago, but it wouldn't run on my phone. Figured it was worth a shot. Probably needs ICS.

I too tried s voice, however samsung shut down their s voice servers to non sgs3's so now no one can use it. Plus your right, it does need Ics. I've also tried just about all of the assistant apps on the market and i find that speaktoit is the best. Utter looks promising but it is still very much in alpha.
Vlingo here. Gonna give Speaktoit a try now.
The End.
Been using Speaktoit for a while...its pretty good and they update it fairly regularly
Downloaded the speaktoit Assistant today, and I'm pretty impressed! Great recognition, and it will set appointments easily, which a lot of others seem to have a problem with. It uses the web to access Google Calendars, but since that's what I use, that's not a problem.

well not a big deal, i just downloaded the latest version of google maps (5.2.1) to my x10 (2.1) and its working great, i like that version instead of the 4 version that comes by default with 2.1, i dont why via market or directly from google maps it couldnt get it
so for those interested having the same issue, here it is the link:
http://www.brothersoft.com/mobile/d..._travel/com.google.android.apps.maps_5218.apk

In case you forgot, you can run Google Chrome on your ICS device now (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.chrome&hl=en). There are some goodies there which are not available in stock browser and you might like it better.
Agreed, it is smother than the stock browser, plus, you have all your chrome bookmarks automatically synchronized. Also, you can access the pages you have opened in other computers and devices (which is cool and scary at the same time).

It's by far the greatest advantage of Mobile Chrome... being reading something in my laptop, then leaving and continuing to read the same thing, effortlessly, is pretty cool.
Or if I run into a page some cool Android app while on my computer, instead of e-mailing the link, I just open Chrome Mobile, and there's the page.

It will NEVER support flash.
And I still find that Quick ICS Browser is faster and more responsive.
Best selling point for Chrome to me is the bookmark syncing. Thats huge IMHO and I think it should have been implemented from the start with Android.

Probobly this
Google's new Chrome web browser for Android will never get support for Adobe Flash, Ars Technica reports.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise, since Adobe previously stated that it was finished working on Flash for mobiles.
So effectively, mobile Flash is officially on the way out. Even though Adobe itself has given up on it, that hasn't stopped plenty of manufacturers from continuing to advertise Flash as a selling point for Android.
Ars Technica deftly points out:
When Google eventually moves to replace the default Android browser with Chrome in future versions of the Android platform, devices that run the operating system will likely no longer be able to play Flash content in the browser.

No! Wonder who made that excecutive decision. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing yet. People use the phones more than a home computer. So you would think they would want to work harder on mobile flash. I'm still kinda in denial about this whole thing,

Last I read, Flash was going away. In favor of HTML5? So not everyone will be supporting it in the future.
I'm using Chrome Beta also. It's not 100% ready for prime time, but works pretty well so far. And the fact it syncs bookmarks with my home Chrome browser is HUGE for me.
But I wish it were easier to add mobile-only bookmarks. It's not super friendly in that area yet. I love Dolphin browsers home page where I can add quick bookmarks.
So OK, how is it that I can't find it on Play? Is it because I'm on superlite ICS and if so, is there a way I can trick Play to show me everything?
I tried Chrome and it is ok, but has handy features missing. I'll stick to stock, which has all my Chrome bookmarks synced to it anyway, it is super fast.

I just wish Google would be a little more transparent on these matters. I have been hearing about majel for so long now and I suppose I should have figured that it would be for ICS or above, but to find that it is just for JellyBean really sucks. Their website says that it is "currently" only for 4.1 . Does that mean it will be made available for older OS's? Is this being done just to sell more new phones? Come on Google, just tell us what your plans are.
its most likely for 4.1 only...
even though it has already been ported to 4.0 and its semi working on my galaxy sii.
I cant wait to get 4.1, working google now, working offline voice recognition and it working in my language (dutch)
We can't port all JB goods to ICS or GB Because of kernel.

If any of you remember the early days of Android, Google did the same thing once before. When the original Droid was launched, it was the first Eclair device and launched with Maps Navigation. All those of us with the G1 (or other devices running Donut) were left drooling and wondering why Navigation was a 2.0 exclusive feature. Then, a month or two later, the update was added to the Market for us all. And there was much rejoicing.
Soooooo...here's hoping they do the same with Now. Maybe it's 4.1 only for now so they can iron out bugs? Who knows. But they seem really determined to make Now a hit, so it wouldn't surprise me to see it eventually released for older OS versions.

But unfortunatelly none of this actually work. Can not even trigger utter to listen my command.
This is either a problem with user setting configuration, or is due to the fact that the application is still in beta. Try messing. With the settings. The way it is normally triggered is by holding the search key down.
And maluuba pretty much never has problems... Trouble shoot a little and try to figure it out. I'd like to help, just I don't have enough info to go off of to help.

Hi all,
Check out the new JellyBean 4.2 keyboard, which is like Swype only better (IMHO). http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-android-4-2-keyboard-apk/
It allows you to swype to type, but as you are moving your finger the words it guesses show up right next to your finger. When it gets to the right word, you lift your finger, and it types the word. Very cool!
Be aware that you might have to google around to get the apk, as Google is trying to take down the leak. But it works great, and installs on your rooted phone just like any regular app.
for those who have forgotten:
Install the apk
Go to languages and input in settings and select the Android keyboard.
Go to any text box, pull down your notification bar, and select input method that way.
Enjoy!

I got this yesterday from droid life. But it don't seem to have a personal library where you can save words. I've been using swype beta for a while now and that's the best part of it. I can type my emails and passwords in and it remembers it. Saves so much time. Its a deal breaker if this doesn't include a personal library. I do like the suggested word though.
This is already in the apps and themes section.

it doesn't do the floating text on my GS3. Why is that?
I know I'm running beans custom and if you go to language and input in setting there is a personal dictionary you can select that I've been using. It stinks you can't add words straight from the keyboard but at least it's a temporary workaround.

Honestly I'd be shocked if the final version doesn't learn the words you use frequently automatically. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't let you add words manually though, Google seems to be going the apple route of less manual fiddling and more "sane defaults".
edit 1 :
Seems to be working fine on my S3 with CR3.1, hopefully we can get an update of the official release once it comes out.
edit: 2:
Scratch that "working fine" comment, I got a hot-reboot while typing which I am going to assume is because of the keyboard. Maybe you JB folks will have better luck.
Works great !!! Thank you

It's OK, I guess. It interfaces fine with the older Talk and Google Talk on PC. Just seems like a lot of clutter that I won't use much. I don't have much need for group conversations for example. I just liked the simplicity of Talk. I just have to dig a little deeper to get the one on one conversations that I want than I used to have to do.
