I just wish Google would be a little more transparent on these matters. I have been hearing about majel for so long now and I suppose I should have figured that it would be for ICS or above, but to find that it is just for JellyBean really sucks. Their website says that it is "currently" only for 4.1 . Does that mean it will be made available for older OS's? Is this being done just to sell more new phones? Come on Google, just tell us what your plans are.
its most likely for 4.1 only...
even though it has already been ported to 4.0 and its semi working on my galaxy sii.
I cant wait to get 4.1, working google now, working offline voice recognition and it working in my language (dutch)
We can't port all JB goods to ICS or GB Because of kernel.

If any of you remember the early days of Android, Google did the same thing once before. When the original Droid was launched, it was the first Eclair device and launched with Maps Navigation. All those of us with the G1 (or other devices running Donut) were left drooling and wondering why Navigation was a 2.0 exclusive feature. Then, a month or two later, the update was added to the Market for us all. And there was much rejoicing.
Soooooo...here's hoping they do the same with Now. Maybe it's 4.1 only for now so they can iron out bugs? Who knows. But they seem really determined to make Now a hit, so it wouldn't surprise me to see it eventually released for older OS versions.
Lol google can be ported to ics and it's fully working! I had tested it with a custom rom on the x10i

Try Maluuba from the Play Store or utter!. Maluube has more of a Now feel and utter! is more for device control. I use both (Maluuba much, much more) on Gingerbread and they are both extremely fast. They beat out S*** on the i***** in both number of functions and speed. Both are reliable. Enjoy!

But unfortunatelly none of this actually work. Can not even trigger utter to listen my command.
This is either a problem with user setting configuration, or is due to the fact that the application is still in beta. Try messing. With the settings. The way it is normally triggered is by holding the search key down.
And maluuba pretty much never has problems... Trouble shoot a little and try to figure it out. I'd like to help, just I don't have enough info to go off of to help.

AOSP Style Contacts/Dialer APK
I have a simple request. I will be purchasing the HTC Sensation 4G in a few days and we all know that for the most part root isn't available. As a result, I will be forced to use HTC Sense 3.0 until root is established and Custom Roms become available. I will probably use ADW EX as my launcher, but I will be stuck with the HTC Sense Dialer/Contacts. Is there any brave soul out there that can create a dialer/Contact apk that is the same as the AOSP version that can be installed without root? There are a few mods/fixes out there that require root to move the dialer.apk to the main system folder etc but obviously since the Sensation doesn't have root yet I will not be able to use those. I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE STOCK HTC DIALER & CONTACTS APPS... I am willing to donate to the person that figures this out....also I'm sure I am not the only person interested in this so uploading the apk to the android market could prove profitable for you also? Here are some examples:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539752
AND
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871787&highlight=contacts+aosp
Remember it has to be installed "Unknown Sources" style or a market link etc....
I am as well! I absolutely hate the HTC Dialer/Contacts. I urge manufacturers to stop messing with the GOOD AOSP apps!
I agree.... I hate the HTC dialer.

Guys, look at my very soon to be released ROM...NoClutterSense...the dialer and lots of other HTC apps have been replaced with the AOSP counterparts. My ROM thread is here.
I have used RocketDial on my phones in the past and love it.

Just installed this & like it a lot- but is there a way to disable the stock caller ID screen? It pops up & the RocketDial's pops up & I have to hit answer on both before the call connects.
i too would love a stock/aosp dialer for the sensation.
Now Fixed, just have to re-size & it's working fine on the Sensation I love me some Stock Dialer. http://twitpic.com/648vs4
Still working on it, but it wont be installable via apk install nor market & so on...
The version I'm working on has to be a full replacement app..

and along the same token, your lack of concern for preserving the awesomeness of the camera is your opinion and, I imagine, not one that is held widely by the MT4GS userbase.
one of the selling points of this phone is the camera... and that goes out the window with the AOSP camera app. before this phone, I wouldn't have cared either, but since it has such a capable setup out of the box for being a point and shoot replacement, it seems like a waste to toss that just to get an AOSP rom.
Before jumping to conclusions about the built in Camera software versus the third party camera apps available on the market, we should test them out first.
I'm absolutely certain that there will be apps out there in the future that will be able to control the entire camera in this phone. The only question is when. That being said I only care in so far as being able to turn the flash on and off. I'm usually taking pictures in default settings though I might turn the flash off.
The Sense 3.0 camera app is the same as the one we have on the MT4GS, and as long as we run a version of Sense 3.0 we shouldn't have any problems. AOSP would be nice, but I'd like to have the nice camera functionality, and honestly I loved Virtuous Fusion ROM running Sense 3.0, I can't imagine how fast it would be on this device!
Yeah, the camera is something that I really want working on a custom rom. coming from the cliq though, everything seems fast stock on this phone.
I can't wait for Cyanogenmod on this phone. It really opened up my 3G slide with all kinds of cool stuff. When 3G slides were bearly getting official 2.2 Froyo from HTC, I had gingerbread for a while. I can imagine this bad boy running 3.1 or even the 4.0 that's supposed to be out soon!
Loved CM on my 3G slide, but I *personally* would not want to part with the functionality of the camera. Now if workarounds are discovered than that is a different story.
This phone is so much better out of the box than the 3G slide was though.

Just because something isn't CM7 doesn't mean it isn't a good ROM. People need to pay respect to those developing ROMs other than CM7 and MIUI as well, if it weren't for them we would still be on the stock rom with S-ON. Give this ROM a shot, I've been running it for a while and it is much better than the shipped rom and has full camera functionality.
The reason we don't have cm7 support is because there is no source code yet. You stuck with sense until then. Complain to HTC not within xda.

Wasn't complaining. Was just asking if any work was done. I found this article through a Google search and then did some forum searching after posting. Sad that the source for the kernel has to be released first. But if that ROM is more AOSP and has full camera functionality, it might be worth rooting my phone over.
Hey guys I've been using my HOXL for couple of months and now running stock 2.20 firmware rooted. But I really can't wait HTC and AT&T to roll out the update and have been considering flashing CM10.
However Google Now is what I only want from JB 4.1, and I really like the stock Sense camera. Also, I know there's Google Now for ICS out there but seems not support HOXL and kinda buggy. Finally, missing calls and text messages are unacceptable, and that's another reason I have to open a thread here to ask you guys how are you feeling about CM10? Did you experience missing calls or messages? And I heard multitouch is not supported so will have a hard time using Maps? And playing games? Sorry to ask so many questions
Google Now works just fine on the XL.

I'm wondering just in case GB starts to lose support from app developers. I'd like to know if ics is 100% stable at this point, and all features work. I'm all about stability and having everything work the way it was intended.

Well, GB is pretty dead too, according to some here. But at least it's 100% stable. (at least the revenant rom is) But after perusing the JB threads, it would seem that there are still issues to be ironed out. It may be "good enough" for some, but good enough is not good enough for me.
I guess it looks like I'll be staying with GB for as long as possible. The only reason I upgraded to GB was because some apps no longer work on Froyo.

I still use GB. I would not describe myself as a heavy user though. I use the phone mostly for the call, text and camera function.
I like my gmail, calendar and contacts sync'ed.
I don't have all the fb, twitter etc
When I tested out JB, I found a few things I liked:
1. gtalk updated better.
2. gmail had other options. Scrollable widget. Calendar had scrollable widget also. Calendar has more detailed display
3. Chrome worked. Native Browser was better.
4. Google body (now defunct-ed) worked..it needed a 3.0+ platform.
5. I don't use it but others like the theme engine.
6. The weather update on the lock screen was a nice touch.
7. The quick launch from the lock screen was neat...although I don't usually use the lock screen.
8. Back up and restore apps is more comprehensive.
9. Google Now and Google Keep is neat to try.
There were others but I forget...
For my phone, I still like the simpler GB interface and the battery life (less processes running means less battery usage)
fwiw, Entropy said his cm9 was stable..and "dead" too. Supposedly he had a more updated one but never release. Supposedly, aremo/he may have a different cm10?..I'm not sure though...
My final thoughts...to each his own...find something that you like...
