Greetings!
After Dropquest 2012, I've gotten a taste for free Dropbox space and I have gathered quite a bit now - so I thought that I'd share how to...
First of, gå and complete the tasks at https://www.dropbox.com/getspace - which gives a bit more than 1 GB.
Then, grab your android phone and turn Camera Upload on. No Android phone? Don't worry, just go to your local phone store and use their phones for your evil purpose > Here you can collect up to 3 GB
Dropquest 2012 gives a bit more than 1GB too, enter here: https://www.dropbox.com/dropquest2012/prologue
Find the answers here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/...VT7O6Sj_Svg7oGPmXXgl98/preview?sle=true&pli=1
HTC Sense 3.5/3.6 phones gives 3GB of storage for a year, again, if you have none, go to your local phone store, and pray that you are the first to pair Dropbox with the phone!
HTC Sense 4.0 phones gives 23 GB for two years, so head out and fine an HTC One X/S/V (I know they work) and again, pray that you are the first to pair, for a juicy 23 GB!
Not all stores has internet, so perhaps it would be a good idea to bring a portable Wi-Fi hotspot (e.g. phone)
At last, you can gain up to 16 GB from referring people - each person gets 500 MB (I am not allowed to post my referral link here, but you can ask for it if you wish)
So in theory, there is about 45-50 GB of free storage to get in addition to the two you start off with.
- HAPPY HUNTING, I'll be seeing you in the cloud!
There's already a guide on how to increase Dropbox quota here on XDA if you're looking for some more info

The HTC Sense upgrades will only work if they are your own phone. Since a Hack that was posted here at XDA Dropbox has added a check that will see if you continue using the phone or not

any one know if they have the full 4 gig already on our phone but its hidden??
we already know the the sensation special edition has the same speed processor but does it already have the same memory but we just cant see it?
out of the box i had 1.04 avail internally. any one have something different?
I think sense takes 3 gigs or something like that.
I hear the operating system and other data take up space. But maybe that's not true. WHY IS MY WINDOWS INSTALLATION FOLDER 15 GB BIG? IT SHOULD TAKE NO SPACE AT ALL, RIGHT?
Yepp that's our phone we got 4GB but only 1 available for user application that's what I've read...hopefully CM7 will take care of that too

Well thanks for the answers, i my self cant wait for cm7 to come to us. I came from the hd2, only because the digitizer stopped working as usual on android installations, and it was the same price to replace the phone under insurance as it was to upgrade this phone...
I read its eMMC protected so we won't be able to access the rest of the 3 GB. It's reserved for system files and other crap.
Hey guys just putting up a reminder that from November 30 to March 31, 2012 Box and LG are teaming up to offer 50GB of free storage.
I downloaded the Box app, registered, and a prompt popped up telling me I have 50GB of storage now.

Via Android and me.
Pretty cool.

Since I had not heard of Box, did a web search to see who the company is. The surfed there on my G2x, got the Android App, signed up and got 50GB storage. The signup says 5GB but afterwards tell you 50GB. Have to sign up on your G2X or other LG phone.
I just downloaded the BOX app on the android market registered and received free 50GB on my T-mobile LG G2x. easy as that.
So you searched who it is.... care to tell us what you found??
Company seems reputable??

Yes, seems reputable. Startup by college students a few years ago with a lot of VC and high profile users

Reading comments on the Market. People are saying you can upload files but not download? If this is true, what's the point? Gonna test and see for myself...
Okay, so maybe the deebs on the market didn't notice the "save for off-live" button. Nice but needs a desktop client.

Awesome... couldn't other devices simply change their build.prop to make it like our g2x and get the storage?
Just strictly curiosity, simple yes or no is fine .

I just got my 50GB of file storage yesterday. 50GB more to add my pile of online storage!
This would be even better if they had the free file sync like Dropbox. All functions seem to work, however the multi-select stumps me.
thats good news. I will keep tracking of this.

Box is more secure than Dropbox, but doesn't have the as many options. There is public press on Dropbox security issues, while Box has a clean record so far.
Thanks for the update....

Me too.... Worked like a charm. Fast and easy to setup.
Box is not there yet with the features but if enough people start using it and asking for features we'll eventually get there.
I only got 5gb g2x
I got this when the offer first surfaced and set up an account. I don't think I'll be using it much at all though.
-No Windows app/sync
-File Size limited to 100MB
To get sync and upgrade the size limit to 2GB it's a $20/month upgrade. Although I'm constantly reaching my 2GB dropbox limit, it's still just so much easier to use that.
thanks for the tip op, I got the 50GB.
I take no credit for making this, it all goes to theos0o. I seen this in the Android Apps forum thought I would share. I tried this on my Skyrocket and confirmed extra 3 gigs for 12 months. Original post below with attachment:
Hello guys!
Hope I'm the first that has implemented this..
So, I've tricked dropbox.apk into thinking we've all got a Sense 3.5 device, so you'll get 3GBs of extra space for 12 months.
Tested & working on my SGS running TeamHacksung ICS 4.0.3 b16.
How-to
• Uninstall original dropbox app
• Install my APK
• Login & wait for the confirmation mail!
• After getting the extra space, you can go back to official dropbox builds (uninstall mine first).
Interesting idea but...
I signed up for Box and got a free, promotional 50G account. You can too, I believe, up until March 31st.
I don't want it for only a year :-(.... I've been using dropbox for 2 years already, need lifetime!

Thanks for the heads up, i'm up to 27.5gigs on my free account now! after uninstalling, reinstalling the apk and logging in; my desktop notified i had the additional space available in seconds. it stinks that this is only for 12 months...
Worked for me as well. Stool, I have to say 50gb for life just for signing up for Box is pretty nice.

I tried to use PrimoS - Inferno Edition v2.0 on my Glacier in the hope of getting extra 23GB free space but was unable to get it. I took up the issue with Dropbox support and this was what I was told:
As stated running a Sense 4.0 ROM does not qualify you for the promotion. Only phones that receive automatic updates to Sense 4.0 from their phone carriers or from HTC are eligible.

So in case someone is having the same problem and wondering what is going wrong, well, there you go.
Did you already have an account or did you make one during the setup process?
Already had an account. We had a few emails back and forth. First he directed me to the FAQ link where they talk about who is eligible and he also confirmed that he can see that I am running a Sense 4 ROM. So I asked why I didn't get the space and got the answer above.

Oh well... Can't do much about it.
Anyway, I'm signing up with Vodafone to get SGS2 for free and they have promised to provide a Dropbox coupon for 2GB extra space. After I add that on top my existing 18, I guess I should have enough.
pls, someone explain how you guys who are using nexus 4 and going to get nexus 5, how you guys can possible use your phone without sdcard?
I just cannot image a using without sdcard which give me much extra space and freedom to change it and make backups.
sdcard is not just extra space, it is separate disc in your phone.
Also, the speed of micro sdcard such as "Kingston microSDHC/SDXC Card Class 10 64gb" never been issue for me on sgs4 i9505.
And for me it is terrible idea to use any external storage, while I can have everything inside my phone, all the time.
Here some talking about much more terrible idea, using cloud or stream services instead micro sdcard, this insane for me.
I cannot understand why Google is doing it, and why you folks follow this rule.

Some people don't need a lot of space. I much prefer larger internal storage over SD card any day. Though i need 64 for all my music which is an issue with nexus devices. For many people 16 is enough though. 1 backup, decent amount of apps, little to no music, and all is well. Some people just have different needs. SD storage is slow and limited anyways. I wish it was completely rid of and larger internal storage options were offered for all devices. Google has been trying to get rid of SD card storage for quite a while.

can't store much porn on a 16gb phone...
Stream music and porn, streaming is the best. But you must have a good connextion where you live. For trips seagte wifi or OTG ftw.

Stop hoping for SD Card storage, hope for return of USB On-The-Go is better!
In USB Flash drive, you can store so much HD Porn and tons of music and many more (impossible to super application there) using USB OTG!
But for me, 32GB is enough for everything

I don't store music or movies on my phone so it has never been an issue.
At least on my SGS3 using a sdcard is pain because it always disconnects from the device.

never had this problem on sgs3 and nowadays on sgs4
This thread needed to be deleted, there has been at least 10,00 threads like this in the past. Nexus never had sdcard after the Nexus One. It never will get sdcard again in one million year, stop asking. Use cloud storage or USB OTG or get the 32gb version or buy a different phone. I wish it was against the forum rule to make these threads.

You're right.
You deserve to treat yourself better.
If you don't like it get another phone.
Get a google play edition phone.
You have plenty of options nowdays.
How do people live without SD storage? Easy. Steam music, use cloud storage.

32gb is a good amount of storage on a phone. Need to make backups USB-OTG all the way for that and use cloud storage for allot of things. anything under 32gb for me is not enough.
cloud service is a crap to keep files to which you need access most of the time, I do not want pay for unlimited mobile internet which not every where available and have the same speed.
cloud service can be used just maybe for backup and sync, and of course for the files which you wanna share.
On my phone 16gb internal storage and 32gb micro sdcard and this amount very close to be full. And not going to manage my files just because google want it.
Then a NEXUS device is not for you. Use a phone that does support micro sdcard storage. I just hope, for your sake, that other device manufacturers don't follow suit and get rid of that old technology. :good:

I disagree. Cloud is great..there is no way I'm getting my 500GB music collection on my phone while still using it as a phone, without the cloud. I use Subsonic, Google Music, and Pogoplug Cloud, as well as the usual Drive/Dropbox/Keep solutions for everyday junk. 16 or 32 becomes insiginificant once you move your mind into the cloud, either personal (subsonic,Pogo) or service provider (Google,Dropbox,etc.).

Thats it. I think google push cloud services a bit forward with every single release (Android, ChromeOS) and thats good in my eyes.
More users + more devices = increasing demand for faster mobile internet speed.
Only some mobile operators need to follow - their main purpose is still the same - pull from our pockets as much money as possible.
Just think what happend with CromeOS, great stuff but 70% people around the glob can't use OS for normal operations.
Again problem, slow internet connections. Google was sure in year 2012 world will be more hi-speed covered with optical internet.
I don't know if u know for project FLAG (Fiber-Optic Link Around the Globe). Almost all world countrys are covered with optical
internet the main fu*king problem are our stupid internet providers. They still selling old technology.
Don't believe cloud storage will be a plausible alternative until mobile phone providers stop being money hungry power giants. On at&t its 10 bucks for a single gigabyte of data I believe. At least their 3gb plan is $30. That's insanely expensive if you plan on relying on cloud services to keep your media. I listen to music 2+ hours a day. I would be spending at least $100 on data overcharges a month. There is no way I plan on making a switch to cloud storage for at least the next 3-4 years. Even then I doubt mobile data charges will have gone down, at all. Maybe $7.50 a gigabyte but even that is way too much.
