do you guys think it will become possible ? im considering this marvelous phone, but it lacking androids greatest feature to mod it the way you want to kinda sucks. kinda = a lot.
btw htc bloatware = crap all the way, and sense aint so pretty either
lol go buy an iphone and suffer then.......Android is the best and is u put effort in u can find some1 close to you to s-off for a small fee like a 10ner
but yh shudnt be far off now they should have a exploit in a week or two
My Desire S arrived today. Been playing with it for a couple of hours now. Doesn't actually come with that much bloat. Plus with double the internal storage and extra RAM, even at stock it's much smoother and snappier than my old rooted and heavily optimised Desire. Very pleased with it. Wont be long until the unrEVOked team crack it, but I don't find myself missing root privileges too badly.
A bit scared by HTC Hub though. Was running the Desire S ported ROM on my Desire to see if I liked it. When I turned my new phone on today, it somehow knew my wireless router key and jumped straight on my network, then proceeded to download and install all the apps I had on the ported ROM!
Not sure I like the idea of HTC being able to get my wireless network key off my phone.
Edit: Need to change my sig!

disable the automatical backup in options -> privacy.. or however its called in english
there is a option to automatically backup & restore your apps, favorites, wlan passwords etc.
i got still a desire hd, getting a desire s soon but most of the ported desire s, incredible s and pyramid roms got auto backup enabled by default so i everytime get apps installed which is kinda annoying

It's not really bloated but i do want to remove things like Twitter, Peep, Plurk & even Facebook since i don't use it. I actually use the Friend Stream & other HTC widgets since i'm just an Android HTC virgin.
I have said YES to the poll but I don't believe that this will happen within weeks.
I believe that with forthcoming release of the HTC sensation (dual core) which I assume will be locked down in the same way, more developers will start working on cracking the problem and therefore an answer might be found.
But I don't believe that it will happen for a months yet (happy to be proved wrong)....which is why I'm finding a XTC clip to use.
Yeah probably right. Two of my friends are about to get the Desire S. When they have, I'll try seeing if they want to go £33 in each to buy an xtc clip.
Then I'll pimp it out at £10 per S-off until it's paid for itself.

HOPE..... DESIRE S ROOT WORKING with GINGERBREAK
Ok so I think this could actually be my first post(and hopefully a helpfull one!)
I was just about to give up with Gingerbreak and the hope of having Root access on my Desire S but the last time i ran it it froze on the "something appears to have gone wrong message"
so i left it a while realised that i had accidently left my tether over usb on and that my internet was still working allthou the phone was completly froze so after about 5 mins unpluged the usb waiting a minute or so and as i was just about to unplug the battery cover I heard the phone reset and I was amazed to find That I now have SuperUser listed in my programs!!
also dont know if it makes any differance but
fast boot off
debug usb mode on
Its a voda uk rom but and o2 sim
ps I dont want to reset my phone now incase i lose root after reboot lol
hope this is helpfull to someone every other attempt i made failed.
EDIT: ok so curiosity got the best of me restarted my phone and superuser and root access gone so only temp after all

So I loaded CM7 (Nightly) onto my phone. I want to make a Titanium backup to load a new market app, so I went to go buy Titanium (I had the free version and want to support the dev). But when I went to make payment, the option to Bill to account was grayed off, odd. So I tried it on a few new apps... still nothing. Hmmmm, lets try a reboot... still nothing. I can't figure this out. Now, before CM7, I could bill things to my account, so could it be a CM7 issue?
Thanks in advance for reply.
Edit #1: I went to settings > applications > all aps > market. I wiped the data, and now it's not even an option... I think I got myself deeper into a problem....
Any apps that are in foreign currency aren't able to be billed to your account which TB Pro is. Others apps in US currency shouldnt be a problem.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Tha troof, this man speaks it.
I am having a similar issue, but i have not tried it with foreign currency apps. Just us ones. Everytime i have tried to download something it just hangs and then force closes on me. I am stock currently trying to root too.
Well I checked that, went to a $ app and it still isn't an option...
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Do you have a purchase / direct bill blocker setup on your line on the at&t account... this would stop market purchases from going through.
I have this problem also.. when to check my account with google. says att has expired...
Well its working on the new market with cm7 that has been ninjafied. Though you still need a credit card for apps in a different currency as said above.
dude you live right next door. ( well not really next door, but bout 40 miles or so away.. )
Have you used any mods to change the branding? If your phone is branded as a Desire HD and AT&T apps don't show up in the market then flashing a mod to change it to an Inspire 4g might help. I use Inspiremod0.5 with CM7 nightlies. Maybe you should check it out in the Dev section.
Im running cm7.1.0 rl and its branded desire hd and lets me bill to my acct. If it wont let you its because you must have a purchase blocker on. Try buying widgetlocker or rom manager paid edition. They are u.s. Apps. Also just because it shows u.s. Currency when you see the app it doesnt always mean its in u.s. When u go to bill to acct. I had the same problem then realized I was just overlooking those things

Shocker on my latest phonebill. My phone have sent allot of sms too 0020000001 (egypt) since 2011-09-28 too 2011-10-18. Seems to have stopped now when I use senseless. Used bulletproof before if there was some app incuded in that relese. :-/
I've been using all of the ROMs available in the dev section.
Still have zero text messages and 1 phone call (test on the day I got it, to my other cell) on my whole account history.
Confirmed with t-mobile.
Outgoing, which is the issue I assume - get text messages from T-mo, working on putting a stop to this.
It took some serious effort and a threat of cancellation to t-mo to get them to stop calling me, but the only incoming calls I've ever had to this phone were from t-mo, and I never answered.

i'm also having the problem, but i did apply the fix and even after that, i still have this sms. In my case is worse then people from t-mobile, because o2 dont have a "real time" or almost real time controll, which means that i need to wait the bill to see the crap. they dont have any controll for people who had plans, only pre paid. this month was 5 euros only with this ****..

i'll take a look and tell you back, but just more information: Before my MT4GS i had a Desire HD and i NEVER had this kind of problem with it. and so far i remember, i used the same programs on Desire HD, so.. it shouldnt be a programm problem, at least not which i had installed.
Now i'm using the virtual unity rom, which doesnt had the zipwhip thing, which the people on tmobile/tcom forum accused be the problem.
the programs that i used so far was: öffi, call meter ng, safewallet, ebuddy, foursquare, facebook, twitter, quickboot, sms back and restore, viber, whatsapp, heywire, adfree. I also had on the device but i dont use frequently: convertpad, currencyconverter, dein taxi, weather bug, androzip, mytaxi, barcodescan, scan life barcode, roboform, wm ftp client, db navigator, es explorer, skype, shazam.
and yesterday i also installed autorunmanager and super manager, to try to disable or uninstall the zipwhip thing.
i'll look the permissions on all this apps and i'll post here. The thing is, since i install yesterday a new rom and i didnt put every program back, can i see this on google market?

So, i recovered the old rom backup with the old programs, took off my simcard and installed a few permission viewer programs.
The list from Permission Explorer to send sms permissions are:
brcmbluetoothservices (com.broadcom.bt.app.system), doubleshotandroidzipgroups (com.zipwhip.zipgroups.doubleshot -this is the one from zipwhip, which people think, that the problem is), dragon dictation (com.nuance.vsuite - no idea what is it),mail (com.htc.android.mail), messages (com.android.mms), messages app group tab (com.zipwhip.zipgroups.doubleshot.plugins.messages), messages widget (com.htc.htcmsgwidget3d), my account (com.nuanc.nmc.sihome), phone (com.android.phone), plugin sample(com.android.messagetab), scanlife(com.scanlife), t-mobile device carbon(com.zipwhip.devicecarbon.tmobile), viber(com.viber.voip), whatsapp(com.whatsapp), voice search(com.google.android.voicesearch).
it was kind of weird that scanlife, something to scan barcodes just can send sms, but i had this program since the desire hd without problems, so.. i'm not sure that could be the problem anyway..
---------- Post added at 02:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:28 PM ----------
Well i did some tests with a prepaid o2 card (then i can check the credits) and after i uninstalled viber and whatsapp, restarted the cell, i still have the problem. Then, uninstalled the scanlife, restart, still the problem. Then i uninstalled everything with doubleshotandroidzipgroups, zipgroup, zipwhip.. and again restart.. credits didnt change, so its seems, people have right, this program cause the sms problem. but i can understand why not everyone had the problem, since in almost all roms (except the virtuous rom ported from desire s) had this software.
I asked to a few friends, who used android gingerbread, but not a MT4GS and any of then had this zipwhip programs or anything like this..

Ok, so looks like you've tracked down the malware. WTF is a "zipwhip"?
Edit: Holy crap, just read their website. Might not be malware (or it might be), but definitely a braindead idea since it does weird multi-directional SMS insanity.
Anyway, the reason it doesn't happen with Undeadk9's rom is that he stripped that crap out of it.
Somebody at HTC and/or tmobile need to be FIRED for this one.

The weird thing is that doesnt happen with ALL people. but tmobile is experiencing a lot of problems with this crap. but since i bought the cellphone in USA and live in germany and my operator here is o2, maybe they will say: isnt our problem and make me paid this 6 euros this time..
Nice to know what the reason was. Will stick to Undeahk9's roms then.

Have tried with my operator. That was exactly what they said. They refereed to: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/6619?start=75&tstart=0 Said follow the outcome, it is T-Mobiles problem or change to another phone.
Last month i wrote to o2, complaining about it and requesting a solution and from where or who this number was.. they gave me a credit after a few lines like: it could be cause by a bad software, blablabla, you are responsable for everything that you install on yout phone, blablabla, but since you are a good costumer and we want you happy, we will give you the credit.
Now i'm waiting the new answer about the problem, since i wrote asking for a SOLUTION and not just a credit and they just said we will give you a credit and thats it.. they didnt offer me to put the number in a blacklist, or any kind of solution. then i'll try to at least become the credit back. and if they dont give me, i'll complain with t-mobile USA, because this is a big mistake and could be avoided.
did you tried contact with tmobile us?

This puzzles me as well.
I've definitely checked, and rechecked with T-Mo to make sure i'm not having this issue, especially after reading through this thread and all the links provided.
Seems like many people are having the issue, yet many others are not.
Hopefully if people keep posting little details they come across about the problem we can eventually find a common link that binds together all the people having issues.
Stuff like this is of concern to me, and while I haven't been posting because i've had nothing else constructive to add, i've been keeping up and playing along looking for an opportunity to help.
Best of luck to all of you, keep sharing and we'll get to the bottom of it eventually.
Got no issues with the Zipwhip "Groups" software.
I can confirm that I've had this issue show up this month, and I'm using UndeadK9's AOSP Gone Crazy on Sense ROM. I don't run anything outside the norm for a superuser (memory manager, task killer, busybox, spare parts etc).
I have similar problems in my MT4GS. Soon after receiving the phone few days back, I started noticing the charges for incoming messages from Egypt on my online account. These messages never show up in the phone, I only see the charges on line. T-mobile officially announced (support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2882) that they will not give customer any credit back for the messages, even though it is generated by some bloatware they installed on device.
These messages created $2 charged in 5 days...in this rate I would end up paying $12 to t-mobile for nothing. In fact, I found this forum while desperately looking for a solution. It is a t-mobile phone, it is a t-mobile service, it is a t-mobile installed bloatware and they will charge customers $12 a month. Is it sort of technique to force customers to signup for $10 unlimited text service?
Reading this forum gave me some hope. I guess I will have to root the phone and use Titanium Backup to freeze all ZipWhip apps. One of my neighbors said that he was successful in stopping these charges by freezing all ZipWhip apps.

I've been receiving messages like that every time I flash an ICS rom. I never had them when I was using CM7. Strange thing is that the messages come from Sprint and I'm on Boost. It could be because my phone is flashed but still on the Sprint network. I don't know for sure though.
same here on EVO 4g reloaded using go sms... so far added it to blacklist in go sms.
hmmmmmmmm
I've been flashing several different ice rooms for about 2-3 months and had never previously received this. I received it today though and it strike me as an attempted t to Jack or introduce a virus to my phone. I could just be being paranoid though, lol.

That looks like an OMA DM Push Message. It's a provisioning process for Smart Phones, very similar to that you get on feature phones when you get an SMS from the carrier after putting a new SIM into a phone. The only reason you would see this message is that the OMA DM client did not intercept it. From what it sounds like, you have recently installed a non-standard O/S for the device, which probably does not have a DM client. Unfortunately if your previous phone had a DM client, then it's probably still registered in the system. You might want to call you carrier and see if they can disable the feature.
Cheers,
Scott

Well I've had 3 devices since June. Same model, and same os being installed. I haven't gotten this message on this phone in months. But I never got a text like that on my original device in its 2 years. Do you think I should still call Sprint?
Thanks for your information.

Sorry for the delay in replying - for some reason the e-mail alerts from here got put into spam...
Anyway - if you have not already done so, yes I would recommend calling Sprint. It sounds like someone - probably Sprint but you never quite know - has your phone registered on their system as OMA DM compliant. It does no real harm other than getting a few dodgy looking SMS, but I always like to make sure I am not registered on systems unnecessarily.
Good luck,
Scott
If I may ask what does oma da ccompliant mean?

It just means there is some form of client on the phone that can configure it using the OMA DM protocols. Most phones have something on them for provisioning, even old feature phones, but usually it's something simple that looks for a provisioning SMS from the carrier. This is the reason you usually get told to wait for an SMS to arrive and reboot your phone, when you get a new phone. The OMA DM stuff is just slightly more sophisticated to accommodate the demands of modern smart phones and also allows extra features, such as installation of applications. But it's essentially the same thing. The carrier sends you an SMS, the provisioning software picks it up and configures your phone with it. With OMA DM, there is usually not enough information in the message to configure the device and the message itself actually contains a URL to go to. If you look at the message you will see the following element:
NzUpLTVXOz4rUDk0MT8xNTErOzhXMT80/omadl/DownloadDescriptor/content/4805911
The first unintelligible bit is the hostname encrypted and then encoded with Base64. The rest of it is the path in the URL.
Have a look on wiki for OMA_Device_Management - not many Android ROM's have this feature by default - iOS has apple's own variant, which is mostly compliant, Nokia phones are by far the most compliant.
Hope that makes sense,
Scott
Odd texts
I have never flashed my phone but getting these same texts.
Sprint HTC Evo 4g LTE
I received one of these texts as well. I called Sprint after reading this post to see if they knew what was up. I was told that the text is a link and can access your data (not sure what data) and is also a "virus". Fortunately the link was broken by an emoticon being converted from a series of slashes and colons so it wasn't clickable.
I usually don't wear a tin foil hat, but I suggest adding this number to your blacklist. He advised that as long as I didn't click the link I should be fine and delete the SMS.
Message still persists
Received this SMS message from: 9355 on the Sprint network

Rooted Galaxy S5 with stock Sprint ROM, using non standard texting app as default texting app.
It is possible using a non-standard texting app stops this from downloading & executing its payload.
I got one of these tonight and was soon greeted by an update of Sprint's "Connection Optimizer" I think sdeakin's theory of your carrier pushing an update of something is sound.
I just received one of these tonight. I'm sure it might just be the carrier pushing out an update, but I am actually interested in figuring out how to decrypt the link so I can figure out more about it.

Received from 9355 on Mar 23 @ 10:53 PM - I have the same exact setup as Foley76 (Galaxy S5 rooted, using a different SMS app than stock)
I dont think its anything to worry about, I am using Ting (Sprint network, pay as you go) - Prolly just my carrier trying to push an update.
I dont like accepting any updates that im not aware of however. First thing I did after I rooted was use Titanium Backup to freeze all the OTA crap. I'm still on the stock shipped rom.
Anyone else receive any messages recently and is on Sprint/Boost/Ting? - zmag
I recently got the HTC One S on Simple Mobile. I've had Samsung phones prior to it and I never had a problem with the MMS/Internet. I have the $40 and the Internet speed is pretty decent. I unlocked this phone and set up the APN but I can not receive MMS. I can send it, just not receive it. It also takes it a while to send out the MMS. Does anyone know a way to fix this? The Simple Mobile website says it's approved and tech support was not very helpful.
Try Tweakker app to set up your Apn's.
T-MobileUS HTC One S running Stock Rooted 2.21.
I have the same phone, same plan. mines a little weak too.
i've been on simple mobile for over 2 months... i dont have any problems... only when the rom was a tmobile rom, cause of the locked apns.... i just figured it out.. look at my signature for that...
i switched to the international or nrg rom..... to fix that cause the apns were not locked... see if that helps... also try switching radios...
i use the newest rom and radio from whatever comes first.. tmobile or international... on simple without a problem.... hope that helps a little...
