Shocker on my latest phonebill. My phone have sent allot of sms too 0020000001 (egypt) since 2011-09-28 too 2011-10-18. Seems to have stopped now when I use senseless. Used bulletproof before if there was some app incuded in that relese. :-/
I've been using all of the ROMs available in the dev section.
Still have zero text messages and 1 phone call (test on the day I got it, to my other cell) on my whole account history.
Confirmed with t-mobile.
Outgoing, which is the issue I assume - get text messages from T-mo, working on putting a stop to this.
It took some serious effort and a threat of cancellation to t-mo to get them to stop calling me, but the only incoming calls I've ever had to this phone were from t-mo, and I never answered.

You shoulda flashed my security patch in dev section. I dont know why romanbb never updated his rom with the security patch? I was all over that the day of.
Sent from my Senseless Doubleshot using xda premium
Strange it is anyway. Found this thread where they mentioned the same number. I don't use T-Mobile though.

and

But they all say from egypt. Not sent to?
i'm also having the problem, but i did apply the fix and even after that, i still have this sms. In my case is worse then people from t-mobile, because o2 dont have a "real time" or almost real time controll, which means that i need to wait the bill to see the crap. they dont have any controll for people who had plans, only pre paid. this month was 5 euros only with this ****..
i readed the posts on tmobile forum, its seems to be a program, but i'm not sure.. nobody is.

i'll take a look and tell you back, but just more information: Before my MT4GS i had a Desire HD and i NEVER had this kind of problem with it. and so far i remember, i used the same programs on Desire HD, so.. it shouldnt be a programm problem, at least not which i had installed.
Now i'm using the virtual unity rom, which doesnt had the zipwhip thing, which the people on tmobile/tcom forum accused be the problem.
the programs that i used so far was: öffi, call meter ng, safewallet, ebuddy, foursquare, facebook, twitter, quickboot, sms back and restore, viber, whatsapp, heywire, adfree. I also had on the device but i dont use frequently: convertpad, currencyconverter, dein taxi, weather bug, androzip, mytaxi, barcodescan, scan life barcode, roboform, wm ftp client, db navigator, es explorer, skype, shazam.
and yesterday i also installed autorunmanager and super manager, to try to disable or uninstall the zipwhip thing.
i'll look the permissions on all this apps and i'll post here. The thing is, since i install yesterday a new rom and i didnt put every program back, can i see this on google market?

So, i recovered the old rom backup with the old programs, took off my simcard and installed a few permission viewer programs.
The list from Permission Explorer to send sms permissions are:
brcmbluetoothservices (com.broadcom.bt.app.system), doubleshotandroidzipgroups (com.zipwhip.zipgroups.doubleshot -this is the one from zipwhip, which people think, that the problem is), dragon dictation (com.nuance.vsuite - no idea what is it),mail (com.htc.android.mail), messages (com.android.mms), messages app group tab (com.zipwhip.zipgroups.doubleshot.plugins.messages), messages widget (com.htc.htcmsgwidget3d), my account (com.nuanc.nmc.sihome), phone (com.android.phone), plugin sample(com.android.messagetab), scanlife(com.scanlife), t-mobile device carbon(com.zipwhip.devicecarbon.tmobile), viber(com.viber.voip), whatsapp(com.whatsapp), voice search(com.google.android.voicesearch).
it was kind of weird that scanlife, something to scan barcodes just can send sms, but i had this program since the desire hd without problems, so.. i'm not sure that could be the problem anyway..
---------- Post added at 02:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:28 PM ----------
Well i did some tests with a prepaid o2 card (then i can check the credits) and after i uninstalled viber and whatsapp, restarted the cell, i still have the problem. Then, uninstalled the scanlife, restart, still the problem. Then i uninstalled everything with doubleshotandroidzipgroups, zipgroup, zipwhip.. and again restart.. credits didnt change, so its seems, people have right, this program cause the sms problem. but i can understand why not everyone had the problem, since in almost all roms (except the virtuous rom ported from desire s) had this software.
I asked to a few friends, who used android gingerbread, but not a MT4GS and any of then had this zipwhip programs or anything like this..

Ok, so looks like you've tracked down the malware. WTF is a "zipwhip"?
Edit: Holy crap, just read their website. Might not be malware (or it might be), but definitely a braindead idea since it does weird multi-directional SMS insanity.
Anyway, the reason it doesn't happen with Undeadk9's rom is that he stripped that crap out of it.
Somebody at HTC and/or tmobile need to be FIRED for this one.

i cannot say for sure, but the roms sense on crack and senseless still have this one (at least, until the roms from yesterday, because i downloaded then for a test).
The weird thing is that doesnt happen with ALL people. but tmobile is experiencing a lot of problems with this crap. but since i bought the cellphone in USA and live in germany and my operator here is o2, maybe they will say: isnt our problem and make me paid this 6 euros this time..
Nice to know what the reason was. Will stick to Undeahk9's roms then.

Have tried with my operator. That was exactly what they said. They refereed to: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/6619?start=75&tstart=0 Said follow the outcome, it is T-Mobiles problem or change to another phone.
Last month i wrote to o2, complaining about it and requesting a solution and from where or who this number was.. they gave me a credit after a few lines like: it could be cause by a bad software, blablabla, you are responsable for everything that you install on yout phone, blablabla, but since you are a good costumer and we want you happy, we will give you the credit.
Now i'm waiting the new answer about the problem, since i wrote asking for a SOLUTION and not just a credit and they just said we will give you a credit and thats it.. they didnt offer me to put the number in a blacklist, or any kind of solution. then i'll try to at least become the credit back. and if they dont give me, i'll complain with t-mobile USA, because this is a big mistake and could be avoided.
did you tried contact with tmobile us?

This puzzles me as well.
I've definitely checked, and rechecked with T-Mo to make sure i'm not having this issue, especially after reading through this thread and all the links provided.
Seems like many people are having the issue, yet many others are not.
Hopefully if people keep posting little details they come across about the problem we can eventually find a common link that binds together all the people having issues.
Stuff like this is of concern to me, and while I haven't been posting because i've had nothing else constructive to add, i've been keeping up and playing along looking for an opportunity to help.
Best of luck to all of you, keep sharing and we'll get to the bottom of it eventually.
Got no issues with the Zipwhip "Groups" software.
I can confirm that I've had this issue show up this month, and I'm using UndeadK9's AOSP Gone Crazy on Sense ROM. I don't run anything outside the norm for a superuser (memory manager, task killer, busybox, spare parts etc).
I have similar problems in my MT4GS. Soon after receiving the phone few days back, I started noticing the charges for incoming messages from Egypt on my online account. These messages never show up in the phone, I only see the charges on line. T-mobile officially announced (support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2882) that they will not give customer any credit back for the messages, even though it is generated by some bloatware they installed on device.
These messages created $2 charged in 5 days...in this rate I would end up paying $12 to t-mobile for nothing. In fact, I found this forum while desperately looking for a solution. It is a t-mobile phone, it is a t-mobile service, it is a t-mobile installed bloatware and they will charge customers $12 a month. Is it sort of technique to force customers to signup for $10 unlimited text service?
Reading this forum gave me some hope. I guess I will have to root the phone and use Titanium Backup to freeze all ZipWhip apps. One of my neighbors said that he was successful in stopping these charges by freezing all ZipWhip apps.

if you need some help, just write to me. i removed everything from this **** on my cellphone, even before i change to another rom.
my problem was: i HAVE unlimited text messages on my cellphone (its already on my o2 contract) but this DOESNT cover the international sms, whats mean that problably t-mobile also had something like it, you will pay for unlimited sms but not international one, whats mean, that you still have to paid for their crap work.
i didnt know that they said, that they wouldnt give the money back.. people from usa, who had this issue should suit tmobile. i would.

You see, I am having this problem where MMS's sent by someone to someone else are coming from my number and I called T-Mobile's G1 Support Dept and they want to sent me an OTA, but they need me to go into my settings and give them the exact firmware version I read there. Problem is I am jailbroken, so I didn't want to give them that, so I said I was on my cell and did not have another phone around I could use to call them back (which was actually true). So I have the following three questions:
1) Is anybody experiencing the same problem as me? Feel free to comment here or in the original post on HoFo.
2) What does the official build description read? I want to give them that one instead when I call back.
3) If I am jailbroken, is it OK to receive OTA's from T-Mobile? Will I even receive them? Will they install successfully? Will my jailbreak break?
Thanks a lot in advance!
more info needed
if you changed your phone to use the developer keyset (ie: JF's androidmod + modded rc 30), you should be fine even if they send it to you it wouldn't install because your phone now wants updates signed with the dev keys not the REAL tmob/htc keys...
I doubt it would fix your problem anyway, could somebody be "spoofing" the messages with "your caller id info" there are websites that will do this for txt, mms & even voice calls, that would be my guess.
Every once in a while the sms msg centers will just wig out and do wacky stuff from time to time, I have had messages show up hours and even days after they were sent, somebody the otherday msg'd me saying I had sent them a text, I hadn't (i checked sent msgs folder) so who knows it could have been just an anomolly.
bhang
this occurred shortly after the initial launch of the G1. some suggested wiping the phone, but not sure if that fixed the issue. maybe you could reinstall jf's RC30 and then wipe and then restore your info.... might help?

I think that's what I did, so I guess I won't be calling TMo back and I guess I'll have to live with this for now, having people I don't know message me weekly asking, "Who's this?" I just need to make sure I don't send anything compromising if I sent MMS's. *LOL*

Not at all. In both cases, the people asking who I was because they received a picture from my number confirmed they know the person who sent it to them and they did nothing special to send those messages, just use the native Messaging application.

I never saw reports of this before. Guess I missed them. See my response above. I will just wait and see what happens. Most likely, this is TMo screwing up and once enough people complain and TMo realizes the liability they have in their hands, they will move and fix this. Besides, I just saw in one of the threads that we should be able to install Cupcake, so I will explore that or wait for the next jailbreak update.
this was happening to me as well and it happened to be my father's iphone account weird, but yes i get really scared when i send my gf stuff now lol from my gmail account. i grabbed his phone to make sure he didn't see anything and just make sure it addressed to the right person when you send lol
i also input my contact into and when my father texts me (yes he just learned), the sender is my email address....odd
idk how to change it....
hbguy
I insist. 611 from your G1 and complain. T-Mobile needs to get the pressure to move enough resources to address this.
This same thing has been happening to me. I am using an iPhone with SwirlyMMS. I did notice that when people responded to me with a MMS asking me "Who is this?", according to my.t-mobile.com my texts were originating from India or Russia, but were from people's real cell phone numbers in the US. I know this, because one of the numbers in question called me and they were from NYC.
this has happend to my girlfriend a few months back and she has a tmo sidekick 3. Also, about 8 months ago my roomate was getting phone calls from all over the U.S. from people trying to reach other peole after about 10 phone calls i called his phone from mine (tmo wing at the time) and it went to someone else. I then hung up and tried a few minutes later and it went to someone different. He called t-mobile and they said they havnt recieved any other complaints and told him to restart his phone. He did, it did nothing. but over the next few days it seemed to fix itself, of t-mobile had found the problem. But back to the mms, My girlfriend now owns a G1 and just a few days ago i sent her a picture of my dog and it said it came from someone else. we both have G1's mine has root hers does not so i dont think it has anything to do with your phone.
this happened to my wife and I right around x-mas and it only lasted a few days. she relied to a text I sent and it went to NY, 'cause they called back and told us where they were from... and they had t-mobile. It quit after a couple of days and haven't had a problem with it since then.
Anyone getting an account? They are giving away lifetime membership for those who download and register.
It is basically like mobile defense (which is also great and free) but it give the option to wipe the phone & the SD card. a few months ago I lost a G1 and I would have love to be able to wipe everything.
I figured it is a must for my Nexus.
Just wanted to put it out there for those who didn't know.
Were you able to log in into their website?
I'm using it, and I'm very impressed. This is a must download app. However, the site is very slow and you often have trouble connecting to it.
Haven't tried logging into their website yet, just downloaded it today. Still at work and no access to that site. I know mobile defense was fairly simple and I figure it shouldn't be much different.
Dled , installed , and tried it out the other day. GPS was off by alot but the other stuff seemed to work.
I've tried it a few times over the past 2 days and am very impressed. The website worked great... no problems connecting for me. Also, the GPS was right on!
I've been using it for about a week and a half now its pretty awesome i think, i had some problems backing up my contacts but got that fixed, other than that it works flawlessly for me.
Ok I see what I did wrong, you have to put +15556667777 (+1 for state side) to log in.
As for tracking, it worked really good for me.. only off by like 7 feet. Had no problems backing up contacts, sms, etc. Works good for me. hopefully i'll never really have to use it but if I do I have trust i'll find my phone in no time.
wow that's pretty nice. free even.

Yep. And When you get the country code or number wrong, they charge it as an international text, which you have to pay for. So be careful when inputting those numbers!
I also found that the app works extremely well, downloaded it the first night I had the phone.
has anyone compared wave secure, mobile defense, or lookout mobile? Do they all do the same thing?
Seems like a pretty good app from using it for a bit. Only problem I have is that the GPS can only be updated 4 times a day. Would seem pretty hard to track someone down if you cant update the position that often.

that is where mobile defense comes in. You can pretty much stream an active location through mobile defense. getting better the longer it stays on.
Un-Installing?
Would the remote wipe and location features work if the "thief" removed the application from their phone?
Doubt it, unless you password your screen so they can't get access to do that. But then they might try a different sim card at which point they will see the screen about returning it. But if this person knows anything about the android system, couldn't they just unlock it, replace the bootloader and format the phone, regardless if its locked or not??
Guess you better hope that last couple GPS locations is his house or work..
How would this work?
Say someone straight up steals my phone, i put it down, turn to grab something, turn back and its gone. ok, GPS... i know where the SOB lives. Then what, call the cops? Wouldn't I need a IMEI and serial to prove its mine? Wouldn't the cops need a search warrant to look in his house to find your phone?? Or should I just bust down his door and beat the crap out of him?
How would it go down to get it back?
Beware of the hidden cost
BTW unless they have changed it but every time you receive a txt from wavesure you will get charged.
I know they have stop it for the US, can't confirm for the rest of the world.

Not sure but I haven't experienced it in almost a year of using several android devices.
I use Handcent, so I have no idea what they're talking about.

For the record, I love android. I hate all the anti-android crap going around. But I have experienced this before. One time upon booting up, my contacts were all mixed up with the wrong numbers. It was so weird. My friend became my dads name on there and another friend became my cousins whom I never texted. So when they texted me I saw the names and was like wtf? How do they know about (whatever we were chatting about earlier). Took another reboot and everything was fine. I also experienced the phone clicking on the wrong thread that I pressed, that definitely happens. I've learned to double check who Im texting.
Is this fixed by using a different SMS app then? Apparently it happens with e-mails, too, but only with the default e-mail app.
I have been using an HD2, that dual boots WM 6.5 and Android 2.2 Froyo, never had this problem.
My daughter uses a Behold 2 and sends and receives over 16000 text messages per month, and never a problem like this.
I think it's more hate against Android, since it is starting to get a strong hold of the smartphone market.
I'm also sure it's a lot of user error too.
Google just updated this to critical, so I'm guessing it'll be patched pretty soon.
It happens to me at least twice a week. I actually switched to handcent it was so bad. Thankfully I never had anything truly embarrassing go to the wrong person, but I have had some confusing moment...The worst was when I carried out a long conversations with the wrong person... The problem happens when you click on the new message item in the notification menu without actually opening it up through the messaging app. You see the correct reply thread, and it is only when you press send that you realize it sent to the wrong person. This is very real, but I used to think it was just my phone.
lmao. This is just amusing.
The ONLY time I ever got the bug was when I received a new message, I used the drop down menu bar to view the message, and this was on a beta froyo build. Any time I went through the regular messaging app, everything was fine. Last I read in a forum long ago burried, only time the bug happened was when you used the drop down...
I've used Android since the G1 was released and don't remember ever experiencing this issue. But if it is an issue, then it needs media attention to get Google to fix it as quick as possible. Although, the problem is getting the fix out, since you know, all these carriers and manufacturers take forever to get an OTA out.

Hi all,
I want to let everyone know that we are actively investigating this issue, and we hope to have an update soon. Obviously, this is a very difficult to reproduce bug.
Rather than replying "me too", you can star this issue to follow it. Just saying "me too" just obscures the useful information in this bug, and makes it harder to fix. Of course, if you have useful information to add to the bug, such as a system dump or an insightful analysis of the code, feel free to update the bug with your observations.

I can believe 16,000. My 17 year old sister has about 10,000 a month. Unlimited texting, ftw.
I've been using Android since the release of the HTC Dream in Canada and I've never ever ever ran into this problem, and most of the ROMs I've ran have been beta or experimental. I'm thinking they're blowing it out of proportion.

When we were on Verizon, one month it was up to 39,000. I was floored. That is when I was like thank goodness for.....Unlimited Texting FTW!
Still no problems like this.
I've never had this problem and Goggle has made a press release and said they are having a hard time replicating it. I think that there could be an error that happens once in a blue moon, but I think most of the time it's just user error.

Oh yeah, I believe it. I'm just curious as to how their fingers haven't worn to the bone yet?
Googles claiming they can't reproduce this internally and they've only upped it's status cause of bad publicity. That's what androidguys claim ...

Yeah sometimes when I get a message I click on the thing in the drop down menu and it takes me to another thread, but I'm pretty sure the point of clicking that button is just for it to get you to the messaging app. Also sometimes I go to the messaging app and click the top thread and it takes me to a different thread. So this bug is true at times.
Some people have been reporting that the carrier billing option no longer shows for them in the new version of the market. This very issue happened to me as well, but there is a fix. Here it is:
Open application management > select the market app > force close it > clear cache > clear data > turn off wifi (if its on) > make sure you have 3g/4g signal (not edge) > open market and except the terms
Carrier billing will be working again, just give the market a min. to finish syncing your account by leaving the main page open (again just like a min). Now verify it worked by checking any US app (apps produced outside the US can't be billed to tmo).
Hasnt fixed the issue for me :'(
Are you sure you followed the instructions exactly? One piece out of place and it won't work. This method worked for me and I can even repeat it 100% of the time (if you uninstall the update and reinstall it you have to do this again to get it working). Not to mention it has worked for other users.
This worked for me, thanks!
if the vendor is not US based I don't think you can bill to Tmo...
also, on the confirmation page, hit the credit card line. you'll get a pop up with a choice of either to bill your credit card or tmo.
sometimes people miss that part...
POST CORRECTION: It works. As Mainspring pointed out, if you try to buy an app from a non-US based vendor, you can't charge to your T-Mobile US account. Just tried a few different apps, and sure enough - one of them let me buy by charging to my T-Mobile account.
A good clue is the pricing - if it's something like $.99, it's probably a US vendor, while something like $1.39 is most likely a vendor outside the US.
Seems to be new to this version of the Market - I seem to recall being able to charge ANY app to my T-mo account, not just US based apps...

Read it later Pro is the app that I tried to buy to test if this fixed my phone and I can not buy it on my phone but I work for T-Mobile and tested the same app on demo phones and co-workers phones and they can bill that app to their account. So I'm not sure why it wont work for my phone and as far as I know I did it exactly how I'm suppose to by fallowing the instructions, even tried multiple times so I have no idea what I am doing wrong

Yeah I'm not sure I'm starting to think it's something T-Mobile screwed up. They added Family Allowances to my account (Bro downloaded $63.96 in apps on his Nokia!!) but it's set up that my line can still download with no limitations on my end and they said it was right on theirs too.
Worst part is they took it off now and I still cant bill to the account even after trying this, uninstalling updates then trying this again, fresh install of the old market and trying this AGAIN! I'm gonna be pissed if I can no longer bill to the account. T-Mobile is looking into it but they blame Google/Android which isn't true cuz I signed my account into a dummy phone at work and it was fine.
Thank you so much!
Gotta love xda thanks man it worked flawlessly
Turn off WiFi
Applications
Market
Force close
Clear cache
3G/4G connection
Accept terms done thanks man
It works guys ..
Now time for them 10c apps lmao
I am not get in the carrier purchasing option even after doing the said steps. Could it be that I am running miui? Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Thanks, worked perfect
try to uninstall update
My market updated by itself and the Tmobile option wasn't available so I:
Turned off WiFi,
Turned 4G on,
Applications => Market => Uninstall Updates,
Opened market immediately and searched Where's My Water (10c app ),
and the option to purchase using Tmobile was there.. of course I opened market again later on and it was the new market(with no Tmo option) but it does works this way.

Just file a trouble ticket..they can fix it..happened to me 2 months ago..they fixed it in less than a week.
Still a successful method to get it working today...
Prior to trying the original poster's method I was unable to bill to my carrier (T-Mobile). However, after multiple attempts at this method it finally worked. Now I am able to bill to my carrier again after switching ROMs. Thanks.

Hi all. Long time no see
Well, to sum it up : a few years ago I bought a phone on the cheap, which turned out to be a chinese copy of a Galaxy Note 7.
Not having much use for it (it didn't have accelerometers nor magnetometer neither GPS apparently) it stayed in a drawer for 3-4 years before I decided to give it to a family member, who had to go to her phone operator's shop to get a new SIM card, as the old one was too big.A few days later, she gets a SMS from the operator saying that she is in overuse of international phone calls (she never phones out of country, she uses Whatsapp for that), all toward Tunisia, and had racked up a bill of 650€ and counting ! :O
Luckily she won't have to pay them, as while she was at the shop in order to inquire, 3 new calls had been placed in the meantime. But she had to get a new SIM and have her number changed as well.
I thought -and the shop as well- that her SIM subscriber ID had been stolen, but I wonder how this happened : either the guy at the shop who switched her SIM cards did it (possible, as he told her to wait 15-20mins to be activated. When she got the new SIM with a new number from another clerk there was no wait involved), or somehow the phone forwarded the SIM data to a hacker who used it to clone the original SIM.
Since I've found no info about that on the web, I wanted the adice of experts in the matter.
So what d'you think, guys ? Any input appreciated. Thx !
Did she have the CCP virus yet?
WYSIWYG. Deep six ditch the phone.
Change all account passwords once she gets the new phone.
Not only firmware rootkits but the possibility of embedded hardware backdoors. The former can be removed, the latter not. This piece of junk isn't worth the risks!

Do you know of any methods to analyse the phone and confirm this, perhaps ?

Malwarebytes. You already know it's compromised.
You could try reflashing the rom to a know good version.
The user themselves could have downloaded a rootkit... no saving dumb bunnies.
Be careful what you download and the apps you load.

I won't let WhatsApp near my phone.
I was born at night but not last night... someone might have tricked her into downloading something maybe to view a vid etc. Social engineering and malware go hand in hand.
WhatsApp members are wholly unvetted.
