Hi guys I recently got my nexus s and started fooling around with it and I've noticed the very bottom of my screen doesnt respond to touch and while its a relatively minor problem it means I often miss type words. I am on rooted stock but have tried apex with matrix.

Restore your stock back up and see what happens. If it still happens, return your phone.
_______________
Just Flash It !!!
There is a touchscreen tester built into ICS Developer options. If there is no response at all after a quick test, try going back to gingerbread or something along those lines, with a full wipe in between. If there is still no response it's most likely a hardware issue. You'll have to either live with it or give samsung a ring (or possibly replace the entire screen and try your luck).
Same issue with gb and I've read about these problems before so I'm not the only one

any follow-up to this? what did it turn out to be?
this happened to me intermittently, recently. however, it seems to be a permanent thing now...
It can happen if you are not using original charger. Or touch dies. It could be kernel related too, but if you are on stock one and got this.. I would say it needs repair.

is this a known issue? software or hardware?
my back button lights up partially (around the arrow) and is not responsive. this has happened twice in the past week. i have noticed that other samsung devices have this issue on the forum. does anyone else have the back button issue on the nexus s?
Mine doesn't do that. That could be a hardware problem. If so, use your warranty.
But check first if it's software. Did you flash a rom? Kernel maybe? Your apps? Try a fresh flash of stock rom.

I did the factory reset.
The issue has not yet been resolved.
I did catch the key issue on video a couple of times.
I've seen that a few times. Just press it harder than usual a few times and give it a few taps to shake the inside touch sensor. I fixed mine and friend's this way.

Mine does it all the damn time. Even when I was on stock unrooted :/

Mine never did this. You guys should get Samsung to replace your phones.

Hello guys I was wondering if anybody else is having this problem, sometimes when I press the back key on my att nexus s it freezes for a couple of secs then it goes back to normal, it won't matter what I am doing it could be anything from visiting the marketplace to browsing the web its really annoying me a lot at this point.
If you know anyway how to fix this issue please let me know thanks.
I have the same problem, but it also happens with my menu and search keys. The individual backlight will dim and the phone freezes for 4-7 sec.

Not having this issue.

Is the phone freezing or is just the back key randomly not responding to touch? If its the latter, then you need to do an exchange. Common problem.
I used to have this issue but it eventually went away. It happened after they replaced my screen.
I used to have this and assumed it was a hardware thing, changing roms sorted it.
I have no idea why this is the case and when someone else said as much I thought it couldn't be the case but I'd suggest you flash a different ROM and see how you get on.
I have this problem also. Mine will go dark and exit out of anything I'm doing as if I was pressing it. Gets old sometimes

I started getting this about two months into the life of my Nexus. In the process of exchanging mine now in the hours that I get an unaffected unit.

My first one did this constantly so I exchanged it and so far so good with the new one.
Looks like a bad batch of ns4g's went out. Mine is doing this too. Not very ofter but enough that I notice it.

Actually it affects all Nexus S models. I think it is touch panel driver bug.

I was thinking of buying a nexus S for my cousin, but a friend(I'm planning to buy his nexus) told me that as a nexus is updated to ICS, it gets some wierd touch screen problems and then its also not possible to go back to gingerbread !!
Is this really true that we cant go back to GB ???
Can it be a hardware issue in screen or you guys have also experienced it ???

Unlock bootloader or root it some other method, of course you can go back to GB. I've had no touchscreen problems. It would be wise to do a full wipe before going to ICS, though. So far this seems to be where most people have software dramas.

Are you using a screen protector? It could lessen the sensitivity of your phone. Yes it is possible to go back to gb. I've done it on my phone.

I don't have phone, my friend has - he lives 180 miles away, he told me about some touch problems in his nexus and while surfing net, i think i saw this complaint from users in a forum after update to ICS...
Thats an i9020T model nexusS which got OTA to ICS and has some touch problems sometimes which vanishes if you lock and unlock again, but comes back frequently

Absolutely no screen issues for me. I've used 5 different ICS roms although OTA was not one of them.

No problems on mine. ICS is working smooth. Of course, the true Nexus S experience is on rooted phones with custom ROMs.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
If you really want to test, you can use the pointer feedback/location info options in ICS to scour the whole screen for possible dead spots. ICS runs smoother for me--my touchscreen response is faster than what it was in GB.
Was working fine for about a week or two and then all of a sudden lost all use of the touch screen. Wiped and double wiped and still no use.
Seen a tip to let the device completely die out and recharge and that did the trick all for about 2hrs. Now its back to square one with a device that is useless.
I was able to flash another ROM and that did not help either. Currently the tablet is on a stable Cyanogen ROM but it will go unresponsive after about 30 minutes.
Has anyone had any success with getting this thing to stay responsive and working.
Please Help, my Mom needs her Tablet back so she can give me back my Nexus 7 LOL

Never experienced it myself, but I would try to reseat the screen connector on the board. From what I read it fixed problems for some people.
Hmmm okay I'll see what I can do

I haven't seen anything else posted, but I wanted to see is anyone is having the same issue as I am.
Basically, I'm getting what I think are row's of pixels flickering in the area of the screen that are gray.
Here is a quick vid trying to capture it. I can't post videos because I have less than 10 post, you are going to have to trust me for now...
I've also used the dead pixel finder app...everything looks good until I change over to a gray screen, if I stare at it, I can see the flicker...
I first noticed it when I flash Franco r10 (which is what I was on in the video). When I flash back to stock kernel or Bricked, it's much better. But now that I know it is there, I can still see it.
Anyone else having this issue? is there a fix or should I just send it back?
If it matters... LG-D820 White, 32gb
I'm guessing I'm alone with this issue and that it is a hardware problem.

I haven't noticed anything on mine, but I haven't flashed anything yet. Did you notice the flicker before you flashed the first time?
No I didn't notice anything until I flashed r10. But now that I'm looking for it, I can see it on stock and bricked ever so slightly.
I could live with it on the stock colors, but if this is hardware, I worry that it is going to get worse and not better over time.

I have the same issue and saw it as soon as I flashed franco kernel. Noticed that if you set brightness to 100% it will slowly stabilize but will still come back when lowing brightness. I called for an RMA, but cannot reproduce it as obviously on stock, so i'm also lost as to what it could be.
What did you end up doing?
On mine, I could see it on Stock colors, just not as bad... I returned mine on rma....
I recommend getting the app called display tester.
I don't have enough post for a proper link.
https:// play.google.com /store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev. displaytester
Look for a bad pixel and go under the banding section for reason for rma.
My new phone didn't have any of the flicker /banding that my old phone did.
Good luck..

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I just noticed this not too long ago and didn't want to open a new thread. I noticed it while I was on stock first and thought flashing something might fix it. I've had mine since the beginning of November. Is the best option just to RMA it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
can you use a SlimPort cable or chromecast to mirror the screen to a TV and see if the flicker still happens?
So you'll know if the problem is in GPU or screen?!
