I was thinking of buying a nexus S for my cousin, but a friend(I'm planning to buy his nexus) told me that as a nexus is updated to ICS, it gets some wierd touch screen problems and then its also not possible to go back to gingerbread !!
Is this really true that we cant go back to GB ???
Can it be a hardware issue in screen or you guys have also experienced it ???

Unlock bootloader or root it some other method, of course you can go back to GB. I've had no touchscreen problems. It would be wise to do a full wipe before going to ICS, though. So far this seems to be where most people have software dramas.

Are you using a screen protector? It could lessen the sensitivity of your phone. Yes it is possible to go back to gb. I've done it on my phone.

I don't have phone, my friend has - he lives 180 miles away, he told me about some touch problems in his nexus and while surfing net, i think i saw this complaint from users in a forum after update to ICS...
Thats an i9020T model nexusS which got OTA to ICS and has some touch problems sometimes which vanishes if you lock and unlock again, but comes back frequently
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Absolutely no screen issues for me. I've used 5 different ICS roms although OTA was not one of them.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
No problems on mine. ICS is working smooth. Of course, the true Nexus S experience is on rooted phones with custom ROMs.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
If you really want to test, you can use the pointer feedback/location info options in ICS to scour the whole screen for possible dead spots. ICS runs smoother for me--my touchscreen response is faster than what it was in GB.

I was just looking in the Optimus 2X forum and noticed some threads about a lag fix due to a LG caused error from the factory where they are enabling Deoxpt to run on the fly instead of during boot, could be the reason we boot so quickly and also the cause of the random reboots, lock ups, and lag. Here is the thread below. can anyone confirm this?

That's wrong. It's not pure stock. Essentially it's just a vanilla themed Optimus 2x build, except for the different RIL.

Can you cite your source on that, I haven't seen anywhere that supports that, everything I've seen is that its vanilla android, hence why the file structure is different from the o2x and a lot of the o2x dev stuff wont work on the g2x, not trying to sound like a d-bag, I'm genuinely curious

I have had zero reboots, zero lag, and zero lockups with my G2x... I'm extremely happy with it stock - I've rooted it but I haven't done anything else to it.
And its vanilla Android but it still has some LG customizations in it... hence why we aren't running 2.3 yet. Honestly I don't think there's a single phone BESIDES the Nexus series that has true vanilla Android.
Hrmmm...okies

3rd day with phone and so far no reboots. Do get some lag every now and again though. Kind of makes me think screen is unresponsive, but if I give it a few seconds it'll receive command. For example I'm running swype, and 2x yesterday I swyped something and like a couple seconds later it popped up what I wrote. Then again I was running paradise island in the back...hope it's just a software thing.

Hey guys, my Nexus started having these weird moments where the screen would freeze and turn a weird sickly green color. I also just experienced a couple of random reboots. This happened on CM7 and OpenSoju...
Is this a hardware issue or did something go wrong with my software? Should I return to stock and start over with rooting and whatnot?
Please help
P.S. I'm still within in my 30 days from Best Buy
bump 10 char
First, I should emphasize that my Nexus S is the garden-variety i9020T as used on T-Mobile, so it's not the same as yous. I never tried OpenSoju but I did try CM7 several times, both the stable 7.0x releases and the nightlies, and had very little luck with it, with symptoms similar to yours. The worst thing that happened a few times was finding that the phone apparently rebooted in the middle of the night and got stuck in the dreaded boot loop - a dim frozen Cyanogen boot logo showing on the screen and feeling hot to the touch.
I'm now on Jonathon Grigg's Infin1ty ROM and it's been very stable for me. I see that it's not one of the available ROMs for your 4g http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071500 but there are some deodexed stock ROMs you can try. See if they get you stable, and then you can try some of the more bleeding-edge ROMs later. The 4G is a very new phone so there isn't too much available for it yet.
Yeah is probably the roms I haven't rooted my nexus s 4Gbut I got stock and I don't have any problems at all

Thanks for the replies, everyone.
Responding to the quoted one in particular, I don't know how I'd run out of RAM really, I'm only using the same number of apps as I did on my EVO and I didn't have problems with RAM ever. Is it just because of the ROM?
As for using rooted stock ROMs, I would but I -really- love Facebook sync to the point that I almost don't wanna go without it.
i had this issue once too with the nightlies cm7. its software related i guess.
Seems better now. Using nightly 5

One of the options in Titanium Backup's schedules is to include a reboot after the backup.
haha ya but some of those times it doesn't boot back up lol. I'm probably going abck to root world.

Froyo wasn't the problem either. In fact I'm still running a Froyo rom as my daily driver. It was all the bloatware. As soon as I got rid of all the unnecessary stuff T-Mobile had preinstalled I stopped having issues with my phone.
i still have every single bloatware app on my phone and i have no problems

This is not necessarily true. There are different models of G2X, what the differences are I don't know but the LG Update Tool will brick one of them (though it can be fixed).

First off, 1080p video is only through LG cam; no other camera app is capable of it on the G2X. And yes, the official 2.3.3 build removed the LG camera, replacing it with the (significantly weaker) AOSP camera. However, a team of devs has gotten the LG camera working on 2.3.3 and is currently trying to get it onto 2.3.5.
Am pretty happy with it even tho I didn't start having major problems like rebooting untill I upgrade to 2.3 but its not really a big deal because it only happens once in a blue. My friend on the other hand I feel bad because he upgraded to gingerbread and still has every problem known to the g2x. And the reason why I feel bad is cause I told him how great the phone was so he went out the purchased it at full price. Shortly after I joined u wonderful folks at xda and started reading the nightmares

My phone sometime the lower portion becomes unresponsive and sometimes when in an app I can no longer scroll down it only allows scrolling left and right: even in apps like Gmail.

Flash a different kernel. Glados, Matrix, Franco or stock.
Is this issue confirmed on everyone's device? I feel like calling up Samsung if it is indeed a hardware issue.

Same issue while on stock GB and ICS, stock kernel. Problem goes away when screen is locked.
On average it bugs me a few times a week when I'm typing. Might have happened many more times, but as locking the screen clears the problem away, it could have gone undetected.
Weird never experienced on my nexus s i've tried GB .. ICS and a whole bunch of ROM+ KERNEL combination my screen works perfect maybe it's only affecting a particular bunch of hand sets .. idk? :/
it happens to me every now and then, usually while typing. generally i have to turn it off completely to fix it, which really sucks.
GB 2.3.7 and whatever the last GB matrix kernal. nothing running over or under.
Ya I have the same issue but for be it only happens when I plug in a USB or auxiliary cable ..oddly not my headphones (klipsch s4)
I've been debating calling into Samsung but haven't had time! Has anyone had luck!?
Edit: I'm running stock 2.3.6 i9020a

Hi guys I recently got my nexus s and started fooling around with it and I've noticed the very bottom of my screen doesnt respond to touch and while its a relatively minor problem it means I often miss type words. I am on rooted stock but have tried apex with matrix.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA
Restore your stock back up and see what happens. If it still happens, return your phone.
_______________
Just Flash It !!!
There is a touchscreen tester built into ICS Developer options. If there is no response at all after a quick test, try going back to gingerbread or something along those lines, with a full wipe in between. If there is still no response it's most likely a hardware issue. You'll have to either live with it or give samsung a ring (or possibly replace the entire screen and try your luck).
Same issue with gb and I've read about these problems before so I'm not the only one

It can happen if you are not using original charger. Or touch dies. It could be kernel related too, but if you are on stock one and got this.. I would say it needs repair.
