Hi guys,
I've been visiting this forum for years, but due to extreme laziness, I've never made an account, until now.
The reason why is that, ever since I installed the more recent versions of team EOS on my Xoom, my battery drains a lot.
So I was thinking, what was the last EOS nightly that was still really good, battery wise?
I thought many of you would know, but I'm not sure so I figured asking about it wouldn't hurt
Thank you so much
Solution?
There are people who suggest Wingray Nightly 90 was one of the last 'good' ROMs in this aspect.
If you also experienced battery drain issues, please let me know if this worked for you!
I'll report my findings in a couple of days (want to give the ROM some time to settle in! )
Thanks guys, and remember, if this helped, let me know!
I said I was going to come back on this, and so I am!
I couldn't help but noticing EOS launched a new nightly with a huge changelog, so I couldn't just ignore that. Instead, I downloaded it, flashed it, and it seems my Xoom's battery life, for the first time since nightly 90 or so actually went up again!
I'm not sure, so please do correct me if I am wrong, but for now I am happy with the placebo
Do you also notice a difference?
Battery Life
I'm on Nightly 105, it seems better. Althought it appears Maps is still loading at boot..

Yes, I have also noticed the 2% usage by Maps...
Luckily, I've asked BRD of the EOS Team and he said he also saw the huge battery drain in comparison with the earlier builds.
But, since I know that he knows, I am feeling a lot safer.
Thanks for your reaction by the way! Glad to see someone is finally trying to help ;-)

Happily using 0826, no issues. Its pretty hard to have a decisive recommendation as users are running so many different apps and configurations..
last boot179-4 1650-i forgot date...august ???
This seems to the correct thread to ask this question. I have tried few nighties randomly dome are very stable and some are not. But none of them have given exceptional battery life. Has anyone come across a stable nightly with great battery life.

Hi,
I can recommend this version:
cm7-110716-0105-BOOT179-Jordan.zip
This version runs perfekt with very long battery life and works perfekt for me (cam, gps, wlan, battery...). But it is only version 2.3.4. I use this rom since a few weeks and I have no problems.

Ok, even am hunting for that, and i found 110814 wrking very good for me.
Its 2days,5hr, still 55% left
In my case, my sim was 6yrs old, so replaced it with new1 and that has given me better battery.
my configuration: check this thread

And thanks to cm7defy devs for making such a wounderful rom.
...110822 boot179-4 nightly, very stable, works like a charm!

I really doesn't understand this "myth" of the "best nightly"...
As far as I can tell the development is pretty much straight forward, and the best version is always the last - with bugfixies and new features who will get their bugfixies in a later version.
the best version is not necessarily the last one, we all have seen pretty screwed up nightlies. but now im using 110822 boot179, and i havent noticed any bugs yet, and it runs smooth, no lags, very good battery life.

Software dev is not that straight forward. With an OS it is actually hugely complex and anything changed might have unexpected consequences. The idea of posting here is to ID those ones that get a consistent good report.
I am currently on 110826-2119- NIGHTLY-Jordan.
Can I flash 0822 boot179-4 nightly directly on top of this and clear Dalvik and cache or is there any other procedure.....

jep, can confirm the high battery consumption on this nightly...
but would say that it's not the best rom at all
Well... I wait everyday for the latest nightly... And I can say I'm happy everyday. Haven't seen a sensive decrease in battery life ou system stability in any of the nightlys, only improvements
I update my defy with latest nightly version every ten days; I can't find any obvious issue yet.

Please read this before you go crazy on me saying I haven't searched for this because I have. I've updated from every ROM of ICS thats dropped after reading up on them and the fastest and best working everyday ROM for ICS is BrainMaster's ICSv5 with Franco's Kernel 11/25. I haven't tried 11/26 but I've read the colors are much better on 25 and I believe it because its the best my screen has ever looked. SHARP!
So here's my issue. I want this as an everyday user, and I'm sure it can be. I just need to know how to set up the battery so that it lasts longer. I just restarted my phone and cleared all the battery info. Before I unplugged it at 6:30pm EST I had 91%. After very, very minor use (looked up the number for Home Depot and downloaded Amazon Market) I got back home at 9:30 and my battery was at 39%. Thats 60% in 3 hours. Thats terrible. How can I adjust the batter life? Can I use NSTools to do so or do I need to change code? I don't want to change the kernel completely because the colors truly are AMAZING with this version.
Please let me know, and thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Tula
Well, which app or function specifically is causing the drain? Did you look at the battery usage? Were you in an area with poor signal reception?
Before you trash a rom and kernel with a poorly conceived thread, try troubleshooting the problem.

For what it's worth, the only time I've gotten that kind of battery life is when a NFC process decided to start and run nonstop. No idea why it was running (particularly since I don't have Wallet configured), but since then I keep NFC disabled.
When that happened it was similar battery life - lost about 70% in 3 1/2 hours.
I never once trashed the ROM or the kernel? What are you talking about? Before reading into something for more than what it is you should take it for what it is. I don't know what the problem is, everyone else seems to be having a great amount of battery life. I'm asking on here, in this forum, because I figured someone (maybe a programmer who knows these things) can tell me how to "properly" config it. Idk what the deal is with it but I was looking for insight. I love the ROM and the kernel and I do believe I stated in the post that I wanted to keep it as a daily user. SO, either you can help me and teach me how to fix the problem or teach me to give you what info you need or do me a favor and don't waste my time. I'm looking for answers or suggestions. Not accusations and negativity.
"Poorly concieved thread!" Whats "poorly conceived" about it? The fact that I reached out on a FORUM and asked for HELP? Go comment on somebody else with that bullsh*t.
Reread your thread title; calling something "garbage" is not trashing it?
Reread and answer the questions asked in post #2. Nobody can do anything to help if you don't provide basic information or perform rudimentary problem-solving procedure.

Well man what i did with mine was calibrated the battery which means charge the battery completely then boot into recovery wipe battery stats then unplug and reboot then use it for 5 mins then charge fully again then unplug and drain completely till it shuts off on its own then fully charge again and it should be calibrated.. sounds like alot.. i kno lol but trust me it works and then if ur battery life doesnt extend after that (which it should) then i would look at what it is thats using the most matter (menu>settings>battery and go from there.. also make sure u have all the apps that will allow u to move to sd moved there it keeps them from running in the background and also make sure ur screen brightness is set low.. i took my auto brightness off and just turned it down just bright enough to see.. i know the colors looks fly like a bag of skittles when u got the brightness up wit franco kernel but it kills battery lol. hopefully that works for u pimpin and sorry for the novel lol just wanted to give u a few options to try.
JG & Freshie, thank you. And Braneless, you must be Braneless, because if YOU could read you'd see that my title says BATTERY LIFE is garbage. Not the ROM or the Kernel. BATTERY LIFE!
You seriously are 0 for 2 with trying to make me look like an idiot. I guess thats why you have almost 600 post and only 50 some odd thanks. Because half the time you're just bashing people trying to make it seem like you know it all when you can't even read a title correctly.
As far as the battery, I followed your instructions JG and also I started from the beginning and deleted all installs and reset to factory. I then installed each ROM from v1 all the way up and now EVERYTHING works and I got almost 2 hours out of my phone today and used 9%! WHOOHOOO!
Thanks again to the read Googlers who want to HELP OUT instead of trying to make people look like idiots.

I had this problem too, but in my case it was the Google Wallet app. It drained the my battery in like 4 hours. After uninstalling it, all went back to normal.
Now if you said battery life on a rom kernel combo was FANTASTIC.
What would that imply? Thanks guys etc.
You go through all the trouble to make the thread but not spend a couple seconds to check what actually used up the battery.
Omfg this thread title just made lol all over the place haha

I'd recommend trying out Nexus MV 2.xx its the best daily driver so far. battery will make it through the day, i used it for a quite a while. Now trying out the alpha 13, but will go back to MV if this doesn't cut it. I tried BM too but didnt notice too much difference from Kwiboo and the earlier CM9 A 11.
Hi,
I've been lurking around for some time and found quite a lot of ICS builds for Galaxy S II. But all of them had very bad comments concerning stability. (Including one leak from Samsung).
So my question is fairly simple: is there any stable-"enough" for daily browsing/emailing? (I don't even use my phone as a phone anymore but more for internet stuff)
One of my colleague installed an alpha of Cyanogen on his Nexus S and he says that everything is running quite fast and smooth.
Any good suggestions would be appreciated and welcome.
Thanks!
Hi.

It's a really nice MIUI ics build. Stable, smooth, and the battery is ok, around 25 hours of moderate usage for me. I used it for about a week and I'm really pleased with it. If you wait a few days there is gonna be a new version, with improved battery life
The only bad thing is the absence of the video codec.

Wow, thanks! I'll surely check it out, I can't wait to try out ICS. Thanks again, very appreciated!
So I typically root almost all my android devices once I get them. My Infinity was the first device I tried keeping stock unrooted as long as possible. I will be honest with saying that there were some times that I didn't even think about the fact if it was rooted or not. Unlike my phone I really only use it for class from time to time to take notes and mostly read books/comics or play games. However, I was utterly floored by the speed difference that my friend got out of his by rooting his. He picked up a TF700 about a month ago from ebay and rooted it the other day. We then spent yesterday testing it out with similar loads. His battery life was about an hour better than mine doing relatively the same thing (head to head gaming), watching netflix, and browsing a few comics. What really got me was the speed and decrease in lag. Honestly I didn't even realize the lag was so bad on mine (I guess I had grown use to it) compared to his.
So my question is this: Would I get even better performance / stability / battery life out of changing the rom to say Cyano or Paranoid or is the stock ROM minus the apps and a few tweaks from the threads the best I am going to get?
If anyone has any expriences they are willing to share with me I would greatly appreciate it.

I personally like Cromi/Cromi-X. I used Cyano for a while but settled on Cromi for the speed. Cromi is based on stock and optimized for speed, so if don't care about additional customization, I would say go for Cromi. But you will lose your warranty if you unlock the tablet to install custom ROMs. Not sure about stability/battery life improvements but I've never had issues with either on Cromi.

This is my two cents. Any custom rom and kernel that you pick will be faster than the stock. I am using Cromi X 4.7 and Hund 3.3.2. I believe that they are very major and stable. The battery life is depended on how you set your device up. Wifi and screen brightness are the most battery consumptions of all. You can go to the wifi advance setting and set it to never use wifi during sleep. You can lower the brightness of your screen unless you are outside to use the ips+. You can also set your turn off screen to one or two minutes before it goes to sleep. With all of that can give more battery back. You will be happy with Crmi X with your choice of kernel..

First off, in on us cellular. But here goes nothing.
I'm not exactly sure what happened but after the massive battery drain I've been having, I decided to try a new Rom. I chose Carbon. So I'm installing it and it wouldn't let me install the 4.3 gapps package I had, so I used an older 4.2.
Normally at work, after about four hours, I'd be close to dead. Today it's at 60. While you may not think that's great battery life, to me, it is. I think most of my drain is the Crappy signal. Either way, my battery seems to be lasting longer. It's been on Wi-Fi, 4g, 3g, and no signal with a lot of screen time.
Was it Carbon? Or is the new gapps screwed up and the 4.2 ones work correctly? I know the new ones come with Location services which I've been reading is a massive drain. I don't know. All I know is that it's been four hours and my battery is nowhere near dead.
After posting that nry battery lasted 8 hours when on the other Rom with 4.3 gapps, I barely made it four.
Take it for what it's worth

This definitely belongs in Q/A. I'll get a mod to move it for you. I couldn't really say why but if 4.2 gapps worked for you with no perceivable drawbacks then cool. Were you trying 4.3 gapps with a new download or were you using just the same zip? Also, you didn't clarify what exactly was draining your battery in the first place. Have you tried using BetterBatteryStats or Wakelock Detector to pinpoint the issue? Lastly, what are "McCain services"? I did try an online search but understandably nothing but results for "John McCain" shows up.
IWell I used the zip I always used on the 4.3 roms. Maybe because carbon has a build number of 4.3.1 it didn't recognize it? I don't know. I was running pac man for clarification and there was a lot of wake Locks even with location serVices turned off. I should have made a screenshot I guess.
Though there was some for Google stuff, some rilj ones. It was basically phone crap and not actually apps like say Facebook, because we know apps like that drain it too. But no, the wake locks were under android stuff and there was hundreds. I think the rilj had 300+. I wish I could remember the rest but I can't. I've seen no drawbacks using 4.2 gapps on 4.3. Even on the carbon website, there wasn't any links. They just said to use 4.2. I don't know.
I figured I would post this. Maybe using 4.2 gapps I 4.3 is the solution. Maybe it's not. Maybe I got lucky. I can't give a definite answer. Just sharing what happened to me. And thanks for getting it moved
Also, day two, 3 hours into work and I'm at 70 percent. Like I said, some of you may not think that's great, but I use my phone a lot so 8 hours compared to 4 is great.

I hate when it happens like that. When its unspecific stuff and Google related, I'm not too sure what actually resolves the issue for me. But hey, maybe this will resolve someone else's issues in the future. Per your battery life, usually folks get about 4 hours screen on time, if those stats you posted are improvements for you then you're definitely doing something right.
Yeah, I know others say they can get up to 12 and 24, but I have never seen those Stats before but like I said, I'm on my phone a lot and when it starts running for 8 hours, I'm happy. I just couldn't take it dying on me after 3-4 hours. That's ridiculous. I have two batteries but even before the day was over I had to switch them both out. I'm happy. Maybe I'll have my girl reinstall her pac man and install 4.2 gapps then we could figure out if it's the gapps or pac man. All I know is my phone is running better this way and I wanted to throw it out there.
