Please read this before you go crazy on me saying I haven't searched for this because I have. I've updated from every ROM of ICS thats dropped after reading up on them and the fastest and best working everyday ROM for ICS is BrainMaster's ICSv5 with Franco's Kernel 11/25. I haven't tried 11/26 but I've read the colors are much better on 25 and I believe it because its the best my screen has ever looked. SHARP!
So here's my issue. I want this as an everyday user, and I'm sure it can be. I just need to know how to set up the battery so that it lasts longer. I just restarted my phone and cleared all the battery info. Before I unplugged it at 6:30pm EST I had 91%. After very, very minor use (looked up the number for Home Depot and downloaded Amazon Market) I got back home at 9:30 and my battery was at 39%. Thats 60% in 3 hours. Thats terrible. How can I adjust the batter life? Can I use NSTools to do so or do I need to change code? I don't want to change the kernel completely because the colors truly are AMAZING with this version.
Please let me know, and thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Tula
Well, which app or function specifically is causing the drain? Did you look at the battery usage? Were you in an area with poor signal reception?
Before you trash a rom and kernel with a poorly conceived thread, try troubleshooting the problem.

For what it's worth, the only time I've gotten that kind of battery life is when a NFC process decided to start and run nonstop. No idea why it was running (particularly since I don't have Wallet configured), but since then I keep NFC disabled.
When that happened it was similar battery life - lost about 70% in 3 1/2 hours.
I never once trashed the ROM or the kernel? What are you talking about? Before reading into something for more than what it is you should take it for what it is. I don't know what the problem is, everyone else seems to be having a great amount of battery life. I'm asking on here, in this forum, because I figured someone (maybe a programmer who knows these things) can tell me how to "properly" config it. Idk what the deal is with it but I was looking for insight. I love the ROM and the kernel and I do believe I stated in the post that I wanted to keep it as a daily user. SO, either you can help me and teach me how to fix the problem or teach me to give you what info you need or do me a favor and don't waste my time. I'm looking for answers or suggestions. Not accusations and negativity.
"Poorly concieved thread!" Whats "poorly conceived" about it? The fact that I reached out on a FORUM and asked for HELP? Go comment on somebody else with that bullsh*t.
Reread your thread title; calling something "garbage" is not trashing it?
Reread and answer the questions asked in post #2. Nobody can do anything to help if you don't provide basic information or perform rudimentary problem-solving procedure.

Well man what i did with mine was calibrated the battery which means charge the battery completely then boot into recovery wipe battery stats then unplug and reboot then use it for 5 mins then charge fully again then unplug and drain completely till it shuts off on its own then fully charge again and it should be calibrated.. sounds like alot.. i kno lol but trust me it works and then if ur battery life doesnt extend after that (which it should) then i would look at what it is thats using the most matter (menu>settings>battery and go from there.. also make sure u have all the apps that will allow u to move to sd moved there it keeps them from running in the background and also make sure ur screen brightness is set low.. i took my auto brightness off and just turned it down just bright enough to see.. i know the colors looks fly like a bag of skittles when u got the brightness up wit franco kernel but it kills battery lol. hopefully that works for u pimpin and sorry for the novel lol just wanted to give u a few options to try.
JG & Freshie, thank you. And Braneless, you must be Braneless, because if YOU could read you'd see that my title says BATTERY LIFE is garbage. Not the ROM or the Kernel. BATTERY LIFE!
You seriously are 0 for 2 with trying to make me look like an idiot. I guess thats why you have almost 600 post and only 50 some odd thanks. Because half the time you're just bashing people trying to make it seem like you know it all when you can't even read a title correctly.
As far as the battery, I followed your instructions JG and also I started from the beginning and deleted all installs and reset to factory. I then installed each ROM from v1 all the way up and now EVERYTHING works and I got almost 2 hours out of my phone today and used 9%! WHOOHOOO!
Thanks again to the read Googlers who want to HELP OUT instead of trying to make people look like idiots.
AWESOME!
I had this problem too, but in my case it was the Google Wallet app. It drained the my battery in like 4 hours. After uninstalling it, all went back to normal.
Now if you said battery life on a rom kernel combo was FANTASTIC.
What would that imply? Thanks guys etc.
You go through all the trouble to make the thread but not spend a couple seconds to check what actually used up the battery.
Omfg this thread title just made lol all over the place haha

I'd recommend trying out Nexus MV 2.xx its the best daily driver so far. battery will make it through the day, i used it for a quite a while. Now trying out the alpha 13, but will go back to MV if this doesn't cut it. I tried BM too but didnt notice too much difference from Kwiboo and the earlier CM9 A 11.

Hello beautiful, sorry for my bad english!
We can write here, comparing ideas and impressions of all, what is the best configuration to protect the battery?
It may seem an obsession, but now it is summer and it often happens that the cells can not just load it because I have an outlet in attack.
So often I stay off her cell phone.
The Nexus S promises, but together with your expertise, I would like to figure out how to stay on the nexus s for as long as possible.
To understand Configuration: os (cyanogen, stock, AOPs, etc. ...), the kernel, governor settings, launcher, widgets, various tricks (NFC disabled) ...
There were?
Can we make the battery last for three days ?!?!?!?!?!!
-------
Let me explain, I have the latest nightly cyanogen, the 88. Off data always when I'm around and I do not use the internet. I do not need the push, so no active sync. The wifi I turn it on only at home or at work, I have WhatsApp, twitter and I uninstalled facebook to try what were saying that facebook consumes battery. I have launcher pro and Gtasks widget for notes in gmail, news and weather widget for news that is updated every 6 hours, if it's on the Internet, and then all program icons. I have installed very few, narrow required.
The kernel is the 1.3.3 universal netarchy signed cfs (the bfs? Is not that I had to use the bfs what do you think?).
This afternoon I used the GPS a few minutes to find an address, then he arrived, I turned off the GPS and data, with the widgets "Power Control" modified cyanogen.
Some short calls since this morning and some short text messages, not even 10. Some web browsing on 3G, but not much.
Well, after all this I can tell you that after only 11hours 18minutes 5seconds the battery is already 42% (97% this morning after recharge).
I'm not coming to pass even 23 hours which is what you do with a simple stock 2.3.4.
What is the sense I'm in the kernel and cyanogen netarchy? Only to change some other small lockscreen?
I need the battery! And I have already explained why.
The other ROM that you have listed does not come from cyanogen?
They are not "pure" cyanogen changed? Implemented? Correct?
Let me know ....
The AOSP where they come from? They are like cyanogen, a family on its own? O derived from cyanogen, too?
Now I remove the cyanogen and try something else.
What do you suck a lot in my phone? WhatsApp? Imagine if gripping always-sync data and as some of you! Not even 10 hours would last.
In the processes running there: Settings - 1 and 0 process services (21MB), WhatsApp - 1 process and 2 services (8.8 Mb), Market - a process and a service (11Mb) Maps - a service process and 1 (5.8 Mb) Google services - 2 processes and one service (15Mb), keyboard Android - a process and a service (8.9 Mb) - TOTAL: 153Mb used and 152 free.
It's right? Do you have it?
I just do not understand where mistake ... help me ...
That's a great idea, but in the wrong section
on a stock deodexed rom and stock kernel im on 2 days 4hrs and 42 seconds off charge. on a stock battery on my ns4g... this is amazing to me, im still sitting at 23% too. LOVE IT!

Wrong phone for 3 days of battery. Only way, personally, I can see you getting that, is to turn all functions off and leave it on standby without doing a thing with it for 3 days.
You should get 3 days of battery no sweat off a cheap nokia, but that's not as much fun to use is it

No the battery mod is a battery percentage. The percent i showed you is in fact accurate. It says so under battery stats under setting and my phone has not been charges for over two days now.
Perhaps the problem lies with the governor.
In my Cyanogen i have the governor smartass (100-1000). Now try with ondemand 100-1000.
Perhaps this is the problem, Watson!

Title says most. I am going to be getting my charge on tuesday and have been doing some research about what rom to try, and gave it narrowed down to these two. which one do you like more and why? I have read the threads on both and they seem pretty even, just wondering which one you prefer and why...thanks for any and all responses!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171270&highlight=humble
they are both good but I prefer Humble because of the battery savings...Gummy is very snazzy looking though and works pretty much flawlessly and quick. Its a tough choice honestly but I personally want/need the battery to be as efficient as possible and for the Rom to do everything I need it to do.....Humble does that for me..as an example I have been unplugged for 9 hours---dropped 31% battery! I say thats a pretty nice win!
Of course your mileage may vary and everyones battery life is different...I think either way you will be happy...I say try both for a few days each and see
I will be trying both personally...but I have to flash one on both my daughters and wifes phones as well..and they hate it when I change their rom after they her their phone setup

No one seems to get that battery life is 99 percentinfluenced by the kernel....most framework mods that claim battery savings are either placebo or stupidity
Humble gets good battery life because it packagesimnuts undervolt kernel in
Use the same kernel with gc and you will get virtually identical results

well at any rate it is a truth..I have tried gummy on 2 totally separate occasions and battery life on Humble(which I have also tried switched back and forth from) is a decent amount better..I dont know why but it is......I always flash the same exact kernel which is Imnuts non OC one
I was using imnuts pbj voodoo kernel and decided to try gummycharged and it just locked up the phone, sloooooow reaction to moving screens, scrolling, opening apps, etc and would lock up all the time... might've been my imagination but data (3G/4G) seemed flaky too, even after several wipes and reflashes. Guess my Charge doesn't like it Oh well I just loaded up the debloated EE4 and it flies with imnuts kernel

uhmmmm i want better battery life. i'm a CS major too so i'm fine with technology, i just never wanted to pay the 30 a month for data until now. and i've had the phone for a few weeks now.
Humble has great battery life, don't want to disregard what Nitsuj said but I swear I have much better battery life switching over to Humble then I did on GC. It might just be the battery gremlins but the battery life was noticeably different, maybe it's just my imagination since its advertised to be a low power ROM.
Humble has some cool animations, it's sort of a love hate thing. You may get incredibly sick of it after awhile but you can easily turn the option off.
Humble is updated very frequently, that might not be a good thing for you. It's very easy to flash the updated versions if you're already on Humble but you may not want to keep downloading new updates every few days, I personally love it. Keeps the ROM fresh.
Humble doesn't have that nasty freeze/reboot issue that happened about once every day or two on GC. Might have been a bad flash but I read about others saying it happened to them as well.
I believe Humble has an increased Dalvik cache which supposedly is the source of increased battery life. I have personally never used GC, but flashed Humble on day one and fell in love with it compared to the stock ROM.

I hate it when people that obviously have no clue as to what they are talking about start making BS up.. Especially ones who disagree with people who obviously know a ton more than them like nitsuj17....
I can tell you right here and now that there is no way that Humble has significantly better battery life the GC or vice versa..
I am not here to rip on Humble its fine rom (Its built on the GummyCharges base) and if people like it better than GC than that is fine. But people who spread BS piss me off.
I have been making ROM's for the better part of a year now across multiple Phone(three) and will tell you that any ROM especially ones built from the OTA (such as these) will never see an increase of more or less than 5 ~ 10% better battery life with any tweak you can apply. The increase they do get is from removing bloat and install custom Kernels..
If both ROM's were set side by side with the same kernel they would more or lass last the same amount time under the same utilization.
Making a change to the heap size in the build.prop will not change battery life, anyone who tells you that is full of $hit or obviously clueless..
Sorry gotta call FUD when I see FUD
To the OP I suggest yo try out all the ROM's and make the decision based on your own opinion.. Most ROM's will be a vast improvement over stock.

how is my personal experience making BS up? Like I stated I dont know why the battery life is better. I am not a dev or even super experienced in smart phones. but the fact is with the same Kernel and the exact same apps running that are restored from TB on all ROMs the battery life is different. I appreciate everything that everyone does here to improve and make these devices better than they originally came out. The things you guys do and the knowledge you have is crazy. Way more than I can ever understand personally.
Maybe it was an error on my part when I installed the other various ROM's. I dunno...but my own personal experience is not BS. Its upsetting to have someone claim that my honest experiences with my device are BS. I receive no benefit to claiming either is better or whatever. If you see post #3 I pretty much said what you said. try them out and form your own opinion.

Because like it or not your opinion is based on perception and perception is easily fooled when it comes to battery life on these phones. I have seen it again and again. People believe that one ROM has better battery life than another bla bla bla.. Most if not all those people have no numbers to back up their assumption.. To top that off I am sure you did not recondition your battery stats before using each ROM.
And on top of all that its almost impossible to create an environment where you actually test each phone equally.
So what we have to go by is what is actually changed.. And I can tell you here and now... Its almost nothing, nothing under the hood is that much different at least in the modules and drivers and radio and kernel. And as someone who is a dev I can tell you that nothing about either ROM can make that much difference in battery life.
I have gotten good results and battery life from humble. First time i used gc it didnt do well on my phone. Not sure why. Second time around it was much better.
I also used altered beast v4 and it was just awful on my phone. Exchanged my phone for a new one and installed the same v4 as before and it was like a totally different rom.
I have had similar experiences with blackberries as well and if i remember correctly people always said roms act differently with other same model phones
I always set my phone up the same way and with the same apps and widgets.

The battery life seems inconsistent... Some days it seems fine but days like today with 11 hours off the charger, with the two highest battery culprits being android OS (46%) and android system (16%) the battery life is already at 26%.

BTW I get have been getting 34-37 hrs @ 20-15% on the BoneSTOCKeteer-v1.0 ROM with med to light use. Your mileage may vary, but stock ROM only lasted a day with the same use.
edit: the more you play with/use your phone the faster the battery is going to peter out no matter the ROM
I noticed that wifi has a big impact on battery life. I hit about 50% of battery life with it on in about 5 hours but with it off and moderate use I can get 2 days use.
Just a thought and I froze lots of the SNS syncing apps with TB. I dont use those since i use another program for FB.
I actually like the ATT Smart Wifi app. Shuts down wifi when not in use. I think the free version of Juice Defender doesn't do that.
I have now owned my 727R for 6 weeks, coming from an iphone 4. I am finding the battery life inconsistent from charge to charge and anywhere from barely adequate to downright poor. Maximum I have ever gotten was 26 hours with minimal use and minimum has been 10 hours with minimal use.
I have installed and use Juice defender, and have looked at a variety of apps such as cpu spy, cpu hound, traffic monitor. I have turned off notification as much as possible and all other tricks under the sun.
My phone does not seem to go to deep sleep often and a lot of times it shows as awake even though the screen was off for a while.
The straw that broke the camle was when I cmpared notes with my clleague who has a Galaxy S (I know, no 4g, no LTE, smaller csreen). But he is getting 90% battery life with wifi and bluetooth on after 7 hours 15 minutes (minimal use). In the same time period I am down to 60% with bluetooth off!
I am not planning on rooting the phone and using custom ROMS or Kernels right now.
What gives? What do I look at to improve battery life?
Thanks
i notice with out a lot of changes i get horrible horrible battery life. but with a custom rom like quick wiz. i turn screen down. wifi off. under clock it and use a battery saver plus task killer i get two days moderet (use

I would suggest since Roger stock rom sucks the life out of the battery to root it and use faux123 kernel and Gideon's script to under clock it. Im using at&t stock rom rooted and faux123 kernel and I haven't had a bad battery day yet.. currently 12hrs moderate use 73% still.... not bad at all. Give it a try.. its not like it could any worse lol

It looks like this isn't available for Skyrocket.
1) Does it work like it should, and does it save battery, or is the battery savings negated by other junk running with it in the background? Reviews seem very mixed.
2) If you got it on a SR, how? Would pulling the APK from another device work?

I hated my skyrocket when I first got it because the battery sucked. Never could make it through a full day of average use. I did a search, found out how to root and install a custom rom and now I love it. I can go a full day and still have 20% left. All I can recommend is rooting and at least remove bloatware. I've never seen a single skyrocket user happy with their battery life on stock. Maybe sell or trade it for another iPhone.

i have a quick kernel question, i have cm9 rom installed and i did some searching and found that changing the kernel could help with battery drain, so im needing 2 know if this actualy helps. with cm9s kernel my phone only lasted abt 6hrs from doing nothing but txting (i have no apps on my phone except batteryxl/2xbattery. im not using the pro ver as i do not buy apps, so my wifi is constantly turned on even after i shut it off manualy and turn data on), i flashed the team faq kernel and still see abt the same, if changing the kernel does help with battery life, what kernel would be the best 2 use? and if possible could you link me to it. i have searched the sgs4g section for kernels but havnt found many in the development forums.
(if a question like mine was asked/answered b4 i am sry 4 reposting, as i am still trying to figure the best setup 4 my phone that will last atleast a full day or longer from just txting)

Atm there aren't any ICS kernels besides those two. You can try to under clock to 600 or 800 MHz to get a little more screen on time. Its either that or go to a GB rom with known good battery life
First off, have you read some of the other threads on battery life and ICS?
Second, what do those battery apps actually do? They may be doing more harm than good. BetterBatteryStats will provide insight into why your phone might be draining so quickly.
Third, turn off the WiFi! Not clear why you have it on if you're only texting.
Sounds to me that if it isn't one of those, it's new-shiny-toy syndrome, or cruft from flashing (if you believe in gremlins)

Battery apps don't do anything to improve battery life anymore. They were needed back around froyo and earlier but not anymore

ive seen some improvment with batteryxl/2xbattery running, after calibrating my phone battery its showing its lasting around 18hours, as for my wifi im always home so its connected 24/7 for the other apps that are updated, i will try buying a new extended battery in the next few days and see how that works

Hi, ive been searching trough isc roms and kernels trying to find one with a good battery life, but there isnt, they all talk about customizations, power, performance but not about battery life. I flashed CM9 with its own kernel and its nice, but it got crashed some times when i was websurffing and the battery life gets like 13hrs of standby and 3 hrs of usage (wifi, network, display), so i went back to GB stock. im not sure if its an isc problem or just becuase of CM. Well id like to know if there´s an ICS rom or kernel that gives me atleast 24hrs of standby and a good stability.
And what about the CM9 crashes?, its isc´s bugs?
Im wating for a JB release, as it seems to be bettter than ICS. Thanks for reading , and sorry for this questions, is just that xda is the best place to find information as im a newbie in android c:
try the hefe kernal or one of the newer ones posted by team Fahq. Might help with stability.
Then flash the battery mod posted by itzik2sh. That made a very noticeable difference for me.

I was running ultragen with hefe kernel+itzik2sh's battery mod and was getting very very good battery life and the phone was stable.
Also changing the governor to SmartAssV2 can result in great battery life, even if my phone is clocked to 1.2 or 1.4 GHz.
But if you do not understand overclocking, do not try it, I read a couple articles before I actually OC'ed my phone.
If you want performance and battery life pertaining to kernel, you can try Hefe or Lightning Zap.
Other than that, you can try tweaks around OUR forums and see the results. You can also install Pimp My Rom to install tweaks.

, dont worry about overclock, i know all the risks and even CM9 from team acid gives you that option. But just let me know man, what is a governor?, never heard about that, and how much time you got of battery with that?

This thing called google brought me to a link to explain governors, so I thought I was paste it for you, even though in the time to type in your question you could googled it yourself.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005306
As to say how much battery life? Doing what? On standby? With the screen on full brightness playing GTA? Connected to data all the time?
There is no answer to that, because everyone uses the phone differently. Obviously if I say I get 2 days out of my phone and someone else gets 2 hours, maybe I only sent 15 txt messages and they watched HD Youtube off data for 2 hours while their GPS was on.
Wifi and GPS use a lot of battery when always leave on. Turn it off when u don't need it. Hefe kernel seems to help with the battery drainage issue.

Dont get mad man. About the search, ive done that, but here i can find a better and smaller answer. And about the battery,as you suere read in my first post upside i was saying in standby and a light use, and how much it lasted for me (a very short timefor a new battery). Anyways, thanks for the link .
And thanks mike y, Ill try out your combination.
I'm currently on UltraGen with Hefe-KOD kernel. Great battery life with good performance. Attached screen shots is with lite usage. Came from AOKP Milestone 6 latest build. Great battery life as well. Will probably go back to AOKP in a few days.

Thats a really great battery life . I have another question, that battery life is because Hefe Kernel or Ultragen?

That battery life is because he doesn't use his phone.
Ive noticed of that, but even when I was on CM9 i got only 15 hrs on standby, either way, what thing really provides that battery life?, Ultragen or Hefe kernel?
