I read that some people were installing Swype from a titanium backup after rooting. Is there anyway to install Swype without root? Is there any word if Swype is going to support the One S in the future?
Thanks

You need a copy of the installer and the app from another device and side load it.
You run the installer and then it says it fails. You then install the app itself. Go back to run the installer and this time it goes and lets you choose it and select it.
No root.
If you can't get a hold of the app or installer, I might be able to upload it.
If you could upload them that would be awesome. Or if you want to just email them to me let me know.
Thanks for the quick reply!

im thinking of going back to JG1 to fix my problem with the phone sleeping. but i really love my swype, if i back it up can i reinstall it? or is there a way to just install the swype manually? so that i can have working swype on JG1?
yep just take the .apk and install it with root explorer or another like app. like astro or whatever. you can search for the apk on the this forum section i believe.
edit: by the way dont forget to go to settings, language & keyboard, and turn on swype and turn off android keyboard.

Yup wht the guy said above. Wrong section btw.
If ur unfamiliar with the process of pulling the apk from ur phone/pushing it back, u can use scripts u can find on the forums that will do the job for u. For eg, check my signature "Backup manager", i barely spent time on it but it gets the job done.
I am looking for the updated gmail app. Does anyone have the .apk file?

try this one.. taken from a zip in the first post on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596
version 2.2.1 gmail.apk
You may need to push through ADB as it was taken from a flashable package.
Edit: I can confirm this works. Just installed it on my phone. Rebooted and got the "whats new" screen when first opening gmail. Also reply button is at the top along with all other changes.
To install, copy over to /system/app with root explorer or push through ADB with "adb push Gmail.apk /system/app"
Verified also working on other phones. Also, if you are on an odex'd rom, make sure you delete original .apk and .odex files.
works good on Fresh 3.1.0.1, thanks!
I am running BS 1.4 and I can't get it to work. I was an idiot and overwrote the original gmail.apk. Do yall have the original froyo gmail.apk.
Thanks ahead.
Never mind I got it to work and I love it.
Thanks superevilllama!!!
I can install the APK onto my phone but I wouldn't mind waiting for the official release of the app.
Does anyone know how it will become available? Is it through an OTA or will it be in the Market?
What else has changed besides the snapping to top reply button bar?

If I would have posted that, I probably would have searched the marketplace first to find out that no you cannot, at least not yet.
I think google may be moving everything towards being able to update individual gapps through the marketplace, but not quite yet. Plus I am not sure whether this has been officially released.
Can anyone explain how to install this via terminal emulator?
I've tried "cp" and I've tried "install" - always get the "File exists" error.
Am I using the wrong command? Can't use adb since I'm not at my computer for a while.

Try just cut and paste with root explorer and reboot. A whole lot easier.
Either way you have to mount /system/app as RW before it will let you modifiy it.

Hey thanks for this. Never tried Root explorer - worked like a charm. Dunno why I've always been messing with terminal and adb when it's been this easy
Hello all :=)
Thought i would give a small quick guide for you hehe.
Ofc root your phone before this :=)
Step1.
Install Titanium Backup from market.
Step2. Start it.
step 3 Firstly, after you run Titanium Backup you need to tap on "Problems?" and accept to download BusyBox.
Step 4. Keep your finger pressed on the app you want removed.
step5. On the bottom of the options that comes up you find force remove app.
That simple it is
Im aware of some people have posted this in threads and such, but i thought i would make a simple straight forward guide for them that did not know about titanium backup
Warning
This will stop the OTA updates for your phones.
You will need to download the ZIP for the update when it's released here to update.
Or the RUU
The guide is incomplete. Firstly, after you run Titanium Backup you need to tap on "Problems?" and accept to download BusyBox.

it's for good
Cool... But I must be doing something wrong... Got the Busybox and did as above, but after the restarts the removed app is still there

You need to have the newest TitBackup 3.5.7.3 to do that. Then remember not to use Uninstall option but you need to keep your finger for a little longer to see full list of options and then select force to remove using Paul's recovery.
Thread stuck.
Works great!
Got it working now Is it true that if there's a new ota we need to flash this rom from scratch to be allowed to get the update?
/CK
Thanks fir this update.
So you guys removed which apps?
Other threads have reported that you may not be able to download future Android updates (OTA) if you remove apps. Is this confirmed?
Maybe issue a warning in first post to avoid problems later?

I was only asking, because this thread which has been made sticky does not mention this issue at all.
Others may use this guide and not be aware of this fact.

I see no point in having apps that I don't use. I prefer to have this space for things that I use. It's simple. No one is forcing you to remove anything.

Apps you install cannot use the space freed up with removing stock apps so it's useless. I rather freeze them with Titanium Backup and they're removed from the launcher and don't use system resources.

You are right, I forgot that they are on different partitions. But anyway - I prefer to remove them. You prefer to freeze them - fine. It's everybody's choice.

i'd like to know this too before i go ahead and start removing stuff
By this I don't mean the batch process, that I know. But once you batch, you have to click install and done one by one until all the apps are installed. I jump roms a lot and am wondering if there's anyway to do this all at once without having to click individually?
One of those "restore all apps" batch functions doesn't work for you?
Go pro. Or you cannot use root explorer and Giro were your apparently are installed on your phone copy them and the using your PC put the in the same folder in the rom and then flash. Now they are installed just use titanium to restore the apps data.

did this one get answered? i am doing the same
so if i buy the pro vesion will that let me select/multi-install without accepting the app "install" and "done" every time?
Hit menu>batch and you can restore all.

Yes, you must go pro. I didn't buy the pro version myself, but I've heard from many others that that is the only way to do them all at once without confirming each app.
I can confirm that the pro version will do this. Well worth the money if you ask me.

+1.
TiBU has a feature to create a flashable .zip file for installing the applications. I have yet to try this, but it seems pretty cool.

AFAIK this only refers to a flashable zip of TiB itself (I thought otherwise before, but I tried it)
Still handy to use for restore if your new rom doesn't include TiB and you had to wipe your data and want to restore your g-account etc. first.
ok, thanks guys. the paid version does indeed just install without intervention.
this app is great. well worth the few $ for paid. had the license file in less than 15mins from paying.
good to see that the free version is still available anyway.
the installable zip file would be a great addition.

I used root explorer to search for swype. Then I deleted everything.
Then go here and register, https://beta.swype.com/
Then just follow their instructions (takes about 5 mins.)

I'm running this swype beta from swype.com as well on Zeus 5.2 rooted. I find the beta swype much nicer and better performing than the one that comes installed by samsung. Even if I was going back to stock, I would probably use TiBackup to remove the default swype and replace it with swype beta from the website.
Working again
I went back through the thread suggested, again. Tried previously but just couldn't get Swype deleted. (still didn't get the libswype... to delete) Then installed the beta & VOILA! works again.
Thank you all for the help!
to find that file, you need a root tool like, root explorer.
When you run it, go to /systems/lib/ find libswypecore. then delete it. you may need to toggle the r/o r/w button at the top.
if you like swype, here is something you may like:
