[APP] Updated Market.apk for Sense 2.1 ROMs (Auto-Update)

Hey guys. This isn't anything fancy, I found this in Nfinite's Stock ROM thread. It is the updated Market.apk that was pushed by Google to a lot of devices (except ours, unfortunately). It has the ability to auto-update Apps, and looks a lot more like the Froyo one. It also has fixed my issues with Apps not downloading or taking forever to download with the market.
Here it is! You will need to use Astro/EStrongs File Manager or install this through Android Commander.
If this doesn't work, remove the original Vending.apk from your System/App folder, rename the new Market apk to Vending.apk and push it into System/app. (Thanks Impaler)
Also, it'd be great if you stated what ROM you use and which of the above installation methods you used, just so people have an idea of what might work better. For instance;
I used this with NFinite's Latest Stock ROM, using EStrongs File Explorer to Install.

It works perfectly! Thanks for this update.

Did install but it wouldn't install. Used astro and estrong.
Running fresh 2.4
It tells no reaaon.

You need to first get rid of your market by uninstalling with titanium or through adb, and then reboot and install this one

Just a clarification, do you simply remove Vending.apk or MarketUpdater.apk as well?

Both This app should replace both when you install

Thanks! Seems to work just fine by simply pushing the new apk into system/app. I did rename it to Vending.apk to remove the space and resigned it, just to make sure.

Great to hear

i just figured i'd post this for people using the same rom as mine. I'm using blue echo which is a themed fresh rom. Unininstall market(vending.apk) and marketupdater.apk via titanium back up and reboot. Place app in tools directory of your sdk folder. Rename market apk to vending.apk.
Change directory to android sdk tools directory via adb. code is as follows:
adb remount
adb push vending.apk /system/app
That's all you need to do.

I can't thank you enough for this.
I was able to pull the Vending.apk and MarketUpdater.apk via adb, rebooted, then pushed the new Market27.apk file into the phone, renaming it Vending.apk and now it works.
My problems were three-fold:
A) If I let market update itself, I couldn't even open the new version. I'd get force close when trying to open.
B) If I uninstalled the update, I could still access the market and attempt to download, but it'd force close when it got to the install portion of the app
C) I could restore to a NAND Backup point when market worked, but within a day of doing so, it'd auto-update and I'd lose any progress I had made!
This has fixed everything. I've been trying for weeks to remedy this so thank you very much.
I'm rooted and running Fresh ROM 2.4 by the way.

hope you check this, I have an unrelated (sorta) question. I used your red swype for ages and loved it, but I found a bug in one of the numer modes in a loan calc app. I know it's not cool to post the apk (I have it anyway), but I do have the official beta 2.17 somthing, was wondering if you still had the red swype metamorph, also, I assume you theme the market in red, which would make my day, could you either pm me a how to (I have froyo), or post the themed market 2.2.7 in themes and apps, which hopefully works in froyo? Metamorph not working

Well I am trying to install metamorph on my girlfriends rooted EVO to give her the modified notification bar but when I try to open it it says there is not enough space on /system. There is plenty of space both on the phone and sd card, tried re-installing with no luck. This never happened when I used it on my phone.
Is there any other way other than adb to install that modified notification bar?

I had the same issue with metamorph, fixed it by using root explorer to mount /system as RW. Make sure you remount it as RO after you reinstall metamorph

Well looks like that will be the only way then. Is there a guide on how to do this exactly?

Just keep trying it, mine said that the first two times and when I tried again it was working. Its seems to be a bug or something, keep trying.

Tried numerous times over the past 3 weeks. Also tried root explorer by mounting /system as rw and nothing.

What info?

How exactly do I do that? Doesnt CM6.1 come with it or do I install via titanium backup?
And do I just go into root explorer, mount, and then exit and then try to open metamorph again?

In hboot at the top does it say s off? I had this sort of problem before and found out that I had s on.(not sure how it came back on though) if that is the case there is an update.zip in the unrevoked thread that will fix it.

Ill check when I have the phone again later (its my girlfriends). Used the new unrevoked to root it.

If you manualy open the apk and put the zip and zipalign into system/xbin it will fix your problem

Once I flashed unrevoked forever to s-off it started up just fine.

Anyone using Visidon Applock- face recongnition locking app

Anyone using Visidon Applock- face recongnition locking app on their charge. I had a Nexus S 4g and it worked great, but because of signal issues, I went back to Verizon. Went with the Charge. I have rooted the charge and am running gingerbread, but the apps market will not let me download this program. I think current version is 1.5 and should work just fine on my Charge...if I can get the download. What you do is take a picture of your face. Then you can use it to unlock either the phone, or apps on the phone by showing the phone your face. Works great.
Anyone able to provide me with the apk ver 1.5? I found and downloaded ver 1.1 but it is missing a signature file.

There is a market fix in one of the sections here, after you install and run it, it will show up in the market. I have the file but am at work right now and can't seem to find the thread for it. When I get home I will upload the file for you if you havn't found the market fix. I have already installed fix on my phone and looked in the market for this file and it is there and works with this phone.

I will look for the market fix...not sure what I am looking for...but I will search. Thanks for the reply. And yes, the market fix would be the best solution...as it will allow me to download other GB apps.

I think I found it. Is it called build.prop.
You have to edit the file to make it look like a Nexus S....which makes sense to me...because that is what I had before and it worked.

no, the file I am talking about does it all automatically, you have to install this app, run the fix from in the app, restart from w/in the app, then when it powers on you can erase the app if you want to. This will enable all apps in the marketplace.

I found the file build.prop which I would guess is the manual way to adjust what your fix does. I went into root explorer and renamed the original file to old...then like a dumb ass...turned off the phone before I had pushed the new file to the system folder. Anyway...I just re-flashed GBE....no big deal. and will take a look at your "fix" now.

This is what I found and what I ended up doing. Download the file and then replace build.prop in /system folder.
I did install your fix.apk...got an error on download via qr....but got the file and used adb to install. Not sure which one worked....

just un- installed your fix.apk. then tried to install visidon again....all worked well. So I am pretty sure this manual mod is the same. Yours is much easier.

The Gmail 4.2 APK is signed by Google, but with a different key than the one in the Play Store (we checked the signatures - they differ). One is probably the test key and the other the production key. For this reason, you can't simply install it as an update and therefore need to be rooted with the ability to mount the /system directory for writing in order to remove the existing Gmail APK.
OK, let's get down to it. You'll probably need ADB installed on your computer (here's an easy way that doesn't require downloading the Android SDK). There is a chance that this might work without ADB by just removing the APKs mentioned below and installing the new one, but it didn't seem to work reliably for everyone. This should, though:
1. Download Gmail 4.2 from one of the mirrors above.
2. Rename it to Gmail2.apk.
3. Make a Nandroid backup in case something goes wrong (this is always a good thing to do before messing with your device).
4. Delete (or move if you want to save the APKs) all other versions of Gmail. Usually there are 2 or 3 copies. One will be in /system/app (that's the original Gmail that was pre-installed on the device) and there may be a few in /data/app (these are the updates installed from the Play Store). They'll be called "Gmail.apk," or "com.google.android.gm-[number].apk," An easy way to tell is to look for the Gmail icon.
5. You may need to delete the .odex files matching the APKs in step 4 too, if you have them. Neither I nor Artem had to do this, but there are many different ROMs out there, and we're trying to cover all bases. Ignore this step and only come back to it if something doesn't work later.
6. Reboot. Once you do, you should have no Gmail as far as Android is concerned.

It's working fine for me. Just now checked. You have to hit the label looking icon to change sections. Thats on the bottom right corner.

great, did the same for me, so i used titanium to un-install gmail and then tried to install it, still get an error. Now ti is not restoring my gmail.

Uninstall Gmail with TB.
REBOOT.
Install 4.2 Gmail
I had that same error at first too. You have to Reboot after uninstalling with TB before you install the new one

Ok, I may try that. After it hung re-installing gmail, I rebooted and my screen said updating and then I had gmail again. I'm on stock. Is that an issue?

I personally used root explorer and changed the original gmail apk to Gmail2.bak (yours may either be in system/app or data/app) mine was in data/app because im using AOSP, for stock touchwiz it might be in system/app. For AOSP its probably going to be named com.gmail.apk or something along the lines of that. Anyways after you delete/rename your original one move the 4.2 Gmail2.apk to system/app, set the permissions and reboot. It MUST be in system/app and you have to set the permissions and reboot for it to work

I would imagine that it will only work on AOSP, and it would probably have to go in the priv-app folder.

It works just fine. You can't install it, but you can move it to the /system/priv-app folder, set the permissions to -rw-r--r--, and reboot. I'm using it on CleanROM right now.

Did you have to rename any apk? It won't work for me, I'm on Viper.
The ONE!

Mine is named GoogleDialer.apk. The permissions have to be -rw-r--r-- and you have to reboot before it will work. If you don't see the new phone icon after a reboot you can use this workaround.

I just see the phone. However, contacts work/are listed within the phone app.
