[Q] Captivate - EMail sometimes auto downloads, sometimes not - General Questions and Answers

The problem I am having is that my email sometimes downloads automatically but sometimes it doesn't. If I notice it hasn't downloaded, I do a manual request to check email which sometimes goes and gets the email right away, but sometimes even that manual process only results in email showing up 20 minutes later. I am using social hub for my email as it seems to be the only program that brings in both pop and exchange email, plus it manages text messages as well.
This happens anywhere regardless of being connected to wifi or not. I have a data plan and this happens in my home area as well as when I am travelling. In my mobile network settings I have both "use packet data" and "Data roaming" enabled.
Has anyone run into this? The odd thing is that it sometimes works so it doesn't seem to be a setting issue.

There is another problem - my wifi doesn't always connect automatically to saved wifi sites. That issue might be related, but since it is a different issue, I have started another thread for it. here

Network data stream instability: need logger app

Hi guys
I'm well known for being quite wordy. I'll try to keep it short with this one. Summary: my data stream is interrupted, apps don't get or lose connection.
Network situation:
Signal strength ok up to excellent (~75-90dBm). Technology usually UMTS/HSPA, problem also occurs on GPRS/EDGE though. Happens when stationary but equally when on the move.
Devices affected:
HTC DesireZ, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy SII, Motorola Defy, HTC Desire HD. Occurred first when I was using the DesireZ but is still happening now on the Galaxy Note.
Issue/problem description:
Despite the steady and good connection to the network and of course an open data connection - we speak of Android - the actual data flow seems to be/get interrupted all the time.
When I hit a window of "data deadness" the browser doesn't load pages, online-apps refuse to work showing a spinning busy/wait indicator and eventually timing out, Maps doesn't load content, Tapatalk throws an error, in short: any online bound activity comes to a halt, despite the connection being "up".
Bad issue: when at some point the timing is really bad, GMail push gets interrupted. Worst issue: GTalk is unable to stay online. Basically whenever I load/bring to foreground GTalk, it has to reconnect. It also loses connection though when in foreground. Wake up the device, GTalk greys out the contact list and first has to reconnect. This can happen after 5 minutes, but also several times within a minute. There is no indication of any interruption or error, data just doesn't flow.
I discussed the issue several times with my providers network engineers, they are unable to help at this point. They observed my device and are happy to report that wherever I was, I had good signal and am usually connected to their HSPA network. No anomalies. The engineer yesterday said they rebooted all antennas around where I am the most, they all rebooted and came back up without any error, so their network seems to be fine, from his perspective. Since it does not only happen to me, but to several friends and relatives, and on several devices, at very different locations (one friend lives 150km away) it must be something they changed in the network. The outages don't happen when connected via WIFI, Talk is rock-solid then, they also don't happen when using another operator. One friend even tested with a pre-pay card from another operator in another country: stable connection, all the time.
So what I'm looking for is some kind of a possibility to collect logs, network data, anything to somehow try to pin down the issue and solve it. It's not like the operator is unwilling to help, he said he is just running out of options. And since it works brilliantly via WIFI, on other operators and did work for years on my operator until last August/September-ish, it must somehow be solvable. It's not the services, it's the network.
Anyone any options or ideas? Maybe an insider which has an idea what it could be?

Does anyone know of a possibility to steadily log network connectivity, data streams/flow, network stability or interruptions? It is turning me crazy and I don't know how to help my network provider help me. Duh...
The signal strength indicator will usually change colors when a internet connection is lost or being established. I believe the default colors are green for connected or grey for disconnected. On Motoblur its blue for connected and white for disconnected so the colors may very.
When it drops is the indicator changing colors or is data just dropping?
...not on Samsung-ROM's. The ability is not implemented in Samsung-ROM's.
I was running Cyanogenmod on a DesireZ, where the indicator is implemented. I also suffered the same problem on the DesireZ. The indicator never changed.
As described above, the data connection to the network is up constantly, indicated by a never-changing G, E, 3G or H+ indicator. Signal levels are good or excellent. There is no feedback by the system or obvious indication that the connection is interrupted. I do notice it only by (online) apps suffering a time-out situation, usually only when actually in use and in front. As for example:
- (mentioned) Talk having to re-sign in when being brought to front all couple minutes.
- (mentioned) GMail losing server-connection and push-capability.
- (mentioned) When trying to browse a page in the browser.
- When pulling up a train table on the public transport app.
- When buying a "mobile-ticket" in the same app, often while verifying my CCard details.
- (mentioned) When browsing various forums with Tapatalk.
- Trying to load videos in YouTube app.
Uuuhm... running out of examples

[Q] Captivate - WIFI sometimes auto connects, sometimes not

The problem I am having is that my the wifi sometimes connects automatically but sometimes it doesn't. If I notice it hasn't connected, I just go to settings -> Wireless and network, and then as soon as I select wifi settings, it connects to the wifi.
This happens both when I go to work and when I go home. These are saved wifi networks. I am always within about 20 feet of the wireless routers so I know it isn't a signal problem. At home there is only the one wifi network so it isn't interference from competing wifi networks.
Has anyone run into this? The odd thing is that it sometimes works so it doesn't seem to be a setting issue.

[Q] WiFi strange behavior

I got my daughter her tab 7.7 about 6 months ago & had been going on perfectly. Android version is 3.2 & I have no easy measures to update for the time being.
For internet connection she uses only my WiFi secure connection. It was working fine all this time.
Today she can't log to her Facebook account via the Facebook app. I checked it out to find that I can log in via the browser but not the app. I thought it may need updating and tried Google play store but I was astonished to find it not working too as it gives me "No Connection. Try again".
I noticed that the WiFi mark is white & not showing the green strength marks, but connection is confirmed by the WiFi name. I was shocked when I tried the software update from "about" when it gave me the "no connection message" despite working WiFi connection. Samsung app is working perfectly & I can update its applications.
Also funny thing happened, when I tried the browser it kept giving me certificate errors many times.
I tried the VPN as I googled around but nothing changed. Same problem.
Switching off & on didn't help either.
Any Clues??
Thanks
Most strange thing happened.
Everything is back to normal without me doing anything.
I left the tab for a while while writing the previous post.
When I came back I found the app update mark showing up, I turned on the WiFi & touched the update icon, the strength signal showed in the WiFi & update started the goggle app. All went normally. Facebook app worked & even the browser certificate errors disappeared. The software update in the "about" worked fine & checked & found no updates.
What is going on...
Can anyone explain to me what's happening?
Thanks

Try Power Cycling your modem/router. That often corrects connection issues. Presume other devices were connecting just fine?

Notifications coming in at the same time.

So I just got the phone a few days ago and I've started to notice some strange happenings. Whenever I get notifications for my apps or messages they always come at the same time. Say I have a text message come in, it will then push facebook or something like that and show messages that I have from the messenger app. Is this normal behavior?
@Demonlinx This has been happening since the first day for me too. I've noticed this only happens when I'm on WiFi, if I'm on data I get my push notifications the moment they happen (all except Google hangouts for some odd reason). I don't have the Facebook app installed but this is a constant annoyance I've been dealing with for a while now, it seems as if when the screen is off its not pulling in data when connected to WiFi, but as soon as I get a text message or turn the screen on my notifications come rushing in all at the same time. Are you on WiFi too when you notice this happening? Or is it all the time?
@elpindian Ok, so I noticed that this happens only when I'm on WiFi as well.. Although it seems intermittent because I've been getting other notifications via a wifi connection, i.e Twitter, Snapchat, etc.. So I'm not sure what is causing this issue. I'll keep trying to mess around with it and see what I come up with.. Are you stock? Do you have connection optimizer turned on? Mine is off. Tl;Dr I only notice this happening sometimes and it only happens (so far) on WiFi.
edit: I found that if I enable WiFi and Mobile Data at the same time it seems to eliminate this issue, I'm trying to test using just WiFi and seeing if the problem still exists.

Try a data reset by dialing ##72786#
@Demonlinx I am stock with no plans on rooting until there is a fully functional AOSP rom out there for our device. I have disabled connection optimizer as well, but haven't turned data off even while on WiFi. Is there a specific setting to do this besides the disabling data option? I never turn my data off since I have unlimited, does connecting to WiFi automatically turn off data? Because I know if I did turn it off I wouldn't be able to receive MMS and I definitely still get all my MMS with no problems.. Snapchat and twitter have delayed notifications when I'm on WiFi but work flawlessly when I'm only on data.
@Soooperstar thanks man but I've been told by a Sprint and Samsung rep before to try that and still I have these issues... Could it maybe be a problem on our router's end? I've noticed that this doesn't happen with every WiFi connection I have; i.e if I'm at my gfs house who has her at&t router vs my Comcast router.. I've also noticed that if my screen is off for more than a couple minutes while connected to WiFi my android wear watch will give me the offline message if I try and interact with it. It's as if the phone stops any internet connection while it's sleeping, somewhat annoying because I can't just walk around the house and expect to receive notifications on my wearable without waking up the phone (phone calls and texts excluded).

Could be..... Kinda hard to troubleshoot. The only one I have a problem with is Tapatalk and XDA app. I think that one may be related
@Soooperstar it's weird, I think it has something to do with the phones deep sleep issues and Sammy has yet to figure out all the bugs. I love the build of this phone but can't stand the software. I'm ready to move on to a Nexus device when the next one releases.

Question Whatsapp Web not connecting when phone is locked

Hey guys,
I just bought the S21+, overall great phone except couple of issue with Android Auto and Whatsapp.
I was able to fix the Android Auto issue (wouldn't connect, had to remove the latest Google Chrome updates) but the whatsapp issue is above my paygrade.
I scanned the QR code and everything works but as soon as the phone screen goes black, whatsapp is slow and disconnects often. Not completely disconnected as after I send a message perhaps 10/15 seconds later it gets set but still not responsive as before (S8+)
Any idea?

Hard to say.
Have you network/internet connection issues?
Are you connected via WiFi or mobile data?
You should check connection settings. Try if it makes a difference if you are connected via WiFi or mobile data.
And if you have installed an adblocker, try disabling. Just to be sure that this is not the culprit.
And I would check for system and app updates.
After you running stock Samsung firmware? Hopefully not disabled any system app.
And the issues with WhatsApp are in the Android app or using WhatsApp desktop on a PC?
EDIT:
Now I have seen the title with WhatsApp web.
Do you have the same issue with WhatsApp desktop app on PC?
The smartphone needs internet access, so if it's locked, it still should be connected to the internet. So you should check the (energy saving) settings that WhatsApp and internet access well not be set to standby when the phone is locked.
I think I have been able to resolve this issue for me. I have Samsung Galaxy S20 FE and due to WFH, it is connected over WiFi. Once the phone gets locked due to idle timeout, the Whatsapp Web would get disconnected on my Laptop.
Resolution:
I followed the following steps
Go to Settings -> Connections -> WiFi.
Click on Settings Icon for the Current Network that you are connected on.
Expand the Advanced menu.
Change option for Metered Network as "Treat as unmetered"
This should solve your Whatsapp Web Disconnect issue.

I have the same error and I still can't solve it
Same problem but above solution didn't work for me either
A bit late, but I was having the same problem and think I found a solution.
1. Go to Settings (In Android)
2. Apps.
3. Find Whats App.
4. Usage --> Battery.
5. Select Optimized or Unrestricted (Mine was set at "Restricted")
Hope that works!
