Sluggish WiFi? Try this: - HTC One S

If you're having trouble with WiFi becoming sluggish, it may be as simple as needing to delete your wifi data.
Navigate, in Root Explorer (or any capable of accessing /data) to /data/misc. Now, either delete the /data/misc/wifi folder entirely, or if you're being anal, you can rename it to something like 'backup_wifi'.
Reboot. On this startup, your phone will rebuild the wifi data, and if you're lucky, everything will be back up to speed. It helped out with my issues after flashing a few ROMs. Sometimes that stuff can get corrupted, as I can attest to with my HP Touchpad countless times. Once you're satisfied with the result, you can delete the old folder, if you chose to rename it instead of deleting it.
Anyways, post your results if you try it.

Weird how so many people are having bad WiFi and I'm not. It might be because I'm on the newest T-Mobile stock Rom.

The only trouble I've had is with non-stock ROMs, such as UTB and Black Dragon. I think a lot of those with issues may be doing the same.

I have had the wifi signal drop on my previous HTC one S handset
the replacement seems to be very good in keeping the signal, even stays on when on idle. So thanks for the input, lets see what others report.

Can you port your baseband version, which indicates radio version I think. It can be found in software information->more.
Btw, mine one is 0.15.31501S.19_10.12.31501S.06L
If you have a different one, it may mean yours is newer and better. Thanks

+1 With the tmobile version being the newest i assume it will have a different radio / modem than the rest of us with the international version...
I think this is software related, I get the bad signal, But i know my phone isnt faulty...
Waiting eagerly for an update.

thanks zylith but do you have the wifi issues or not

here is an international unbranded One S with Wifi problems and and also the 3G/UMTS switching issues fviw.

I'm on the stock Rom from three UK and have no problem with wifi. The only thing I did do however is change my WiFi channel to improve signal strength from the router. I've included a screen shot of my baseband version.

Yes, it could be a solution cos at work with better WiFi router working on 802.11n my phone connects to it all the time without problem but at home my one I believe does not work on n so it may cause the WiFi issue.
However, I still think this is a software problem cos my old incredible s worked flawlessly both at work and home so the radio must playing a role here.

OK, quote myself, there might be something wrong with what I said about Radio and Wifi, there might be no connection between these two. I read some other forums someone suggested Radio has nothing to do with wifi....
Sorry for the confusion, could any one who is familiar with Radio in Android comment on this? If there is indeed no link between these two, we might need to think other things which cause the Wifi problem.
My bad, should have done more research rather than just pointing to Radio which appeared on top of my head when thinking about the problem.

Guys, let's try to stay on topic a bit. This thread has been quasi-hijacked. I posted this because I want to know if others are able to fix their problems by using my fix method. 2 Pages of posts now and not a single person has bothered to say whether they tried my method, much less their results. It's turned into a debate about wifi in general.

I'm on Vodafone uk, actually running SENSEaY 2.1.0 Rom and using radio following from 10.58...2_2, no issues so far. However Vodafone isn't the best one in 3G coverage. Also have sim card on orange and signal is a lot better.

Sorry I should have put that, like the post above I am running on Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2
its probably just me but I seemed to have quick speeds when out and about but it seems to have slowed down and a bit hit and miss sometimes
Just spotted this. Am on vodafone UK running 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 and am having MAJOR issues with all ICS builds. I get little but mainly no signal. Could someone please advise on a better radio??
Thanks.

T-Mobile USA releasing 1.84.531.2 710RD

I just read a post on TMO News and they are releasing a software update, the big changes are as follows:
Improvements
Resolves goodbye splash not appearing when powering off due to low battery.
Resolves voicemail indicator not appearing while using Wi-Fi calling.
Improvements to Wi-Fi Calling
Improvements to camera stability
Resolves signal fluctuation.
It's dropping tomorrow so if you have the stock ROM you should be able to go into software updates and look for update and get it right away.
I have to wait for a dev to incorporate these changes as my phone is rooted, so I'll look forward to that once they get a dump.
It seems the 0.17 radio software is being released
I wish it included a fix for SMS notifications... I find I don't get a status icon or notification sound about 1/5 of the time.

Updates have never come to rooted devices, this is the first one I've seen actually address the issue, and probably due to HTC's bootloader policy.
As far as I know and the article said this update is only for T-Mobile USA, not any other countries.

Let me hope ;-)
the radio is based on the software build... As I learned that the newest radio is not always the best radio
True. The 'best' radio depends on what ROM you are using. I have a TMOBUS device running on LeeDroid's ROM (EU). The EU radio works best for me since it is an EU ROM. When I restored my stock nand, the US version seemed to work better (data fluctuation and overall stability).
I just have no idea how we are going to flash the new radio, bootloader, etc without having an RUU or getting S-Off. Is it possible?

Can someone tell me if the legacy buttons on every single app is part of HTC? Because I know a lot of apps have the legacy buttons somewhere in the corner but the ones at the bottom are always there. If so, will this update have anything to do with it or am I just crazy?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
Legacy button at the bottom is the fault of the app makers, not the phone, they haven't revised their code to optimize for ICS. One non-Google example of an app that does have the menu in the top corner is TripAdvisor. So, the update is not going to address that.
Well I saw someone post that they loaded a custom ROM on the HTC one x that uses the multicasting button as the menu button, do you happen to know if a stock ROM exist for this phone that does that?

You are getting ONE day+ with a massive use?
didn't fix it for me
My Wifi connection is solid but every couple of hours the wifi gets disconnected and reconnects. I have trickdroid v5.0 for tmobile. I beleive I tried the v4.4 for the international one s and it had the same issue. I did go thru all of the steps (bootloader unlock, root, fastboot script, and recovery installation of rom). I did it twice for good measure. i still have the same problem.
On a side note I'm not sure if this is related but my friend with the exact same tmo one s and I were doing speed tests. He Consistently got twice my speeds. We both have the same tmobile service and were at the location using the same server. He was using stock ROM and rooted.

Also another issue I noticed with the tmo trickdroid v5 is that it doesn't recognise a (wired) headset for sounds or mic. Did anyone else have this issue?

AT&T ONE-X WIFI Problems -- PLEASE HELP!!

I have an AT&T One-X running Viper 2.0 (mind you this issue has existed for me on various roms Cleanrom 5.0, CM10, etc and radio versions not just Viper). Anyhow I am unable to maintain a contant WIFI connection -- it connects and signal/strength are fine however it will drop after a few seconds to a few minutes every time on different access points.
I know there were reported hardware issues with the International version and I more so started to notice this as I am putting my phone on wifi more often to watch various streams from ustream and twitch.tv.
I have an IPAD and a laptop next to me both on the same access points and they don't drop out -- whatever is going on is not specific to the content I am viewing (it also happens when I try and watch content from HBOGO or Youtube).
I am really frustrated at this point and am really starting to wonder if its a hardware issue like the International version -- my biggest fear is I call AT&T for a replacement and get a un-rootable/lockable phone sent back and even then it might still be an issue with the phone its-self...
I would appreciate any help/insight regarding this issue because I am starting to wonder if I am better off just selling this phone and getting a SGS3 (which I really don't want to do unless I have to).

Have you tried using reserved DHCP IP addressing with your router? I was frustrated by similar issues with a mixed OS environment, but reserving specific IPs for each device fixed the problem for me.
Unfortunately I've got a non-rooted Evita, so have no experience with the WiFi radios in CM9/10 or AOSP.

Not the same issue. The WiFi antenna design on the international version is completely different from ours, and we don't suffer from the issue of the case flexing and making the antenna pins lose contact.
Its not to say you don't have a hardware issue. Just not the same one as the international version. People have had some random issues with WiFi on our version, but nothing as widespread as the international version.
Please keep all question related threads in the Q&A section only. Thank you.

Can't connect via EvDo, anyone else having sane issue on latest jb leak?

To save battery and because I'm usually on wifi, I've been using phone info till to turn off LTE and using 3g.
If I set it now I cannot make a call as I keep getting pop up, "mobile network not available". I can choose cdma and that still works.

Did you also make sure your modem updated too? Check under About Phone... Some ROMs won't update the modem at the same time.

No not necessarily. Every single phone is different and a lot of the problems people have with with the different radios is because of the area they are in. Change your radio to either the newest and see if that helps, and if not flash some of the older radios.
Also next time if you're asking for help you might not want to be a smartass to someone trying to help you. .

I had issues on leak 2, ended up odining back to stock. Couldn't get 4g, was stuck in 3g when I switched to save battery. I am not touching phone info on any further leaks.

No not necessarily. Every single phone is different and a lot of the problems people have with with the different radios is because of the area they are in. Change your radio to either the newest and see if that helps, and if not flash some of the older radios.

Errr..missing out how my response was being a smartass...that said, if my problem was due to the latest ROM, would have thought perhaps others had an issue.
Whats interesting is I reverted to prior ROMs and I have the same issue. Weird how all of the sudden I can get connected and even read the signal but if I try to place a call when on EvDo, i get that no mobile network available message..
Well then its either your radios or your areas. Why don't you flash a new radio?

That makes sense, any other tools folks are using to toggle LTE on and off with JB?

Solved my own problem I guess...I was choosing EvDo Only or CDMA Only..when I choose CDMA PRL, it actually connects to 3G and phone calls worked..
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think the statement about JB and Phone Info may be right though..before JB, I would choose EvDo Only and it would use 3G, if I chose CDMA Only it was actually on 2G..

I also fail to see how he was being a smartass...?
He simply said he assumed if it was a modem issue that the others would be similarly affected...
What's so smartass about that?

Well for one he is asking for help, when someone offers a suggestion and he comes back and says, if that was the problem others would be experiencing it, that's being a smartass. If you know anything about modems or have read through any of the threads about modems then you would know just cause you have a certain issue on a radio doesn't mean anyone else has that same issue or even one similar. There is a guy one one if the threads, I believe its the PA thread, that updated to the J1, and I believe the I5 also, radio and when he did he experienced complete service failure no matter what he did but as soon as he went back to HD everything worked fine.
I am glad his issue is fixed and that hr has service but when you ask for help, and I have been called down before for doing this same thing, and someone asks you something to help you debug your problem you don't just come back and say, and I am paraphrasing here, I don't think that's the issue. You answer the question and then say, if that was the problem wouldn't more people be experiencing the same issue.

You're right he could have answered the question and then say he doesn't think that's the issue, however I don't think what he said should be taken as being smartass. He just genuinely didn't think that would be the problem.
