T-Mobile USA releasing 1.84.531.2 710RD - HTC One S

I just read a post on TMO News and they are releasing a software update, the big changes are as follows:
Improvements
Resolves goodbye splash not appearing when powering off due to low battery.
Resolves voicemail indicator not appearing while using Wi-Fi calling.
Improvements to Wi-Fi Calling
Improvements to camera stability
Resolves signal fluctuation.
It's dropping tomorrow so if you have the stock ROM you should be able to go into software updates and look for update and get it right away.
I have to wait for a dev to incorporate these changes as my phone is rooted, so I'll look forward to that once they get a dump.

It seems the 0.17 radio software is being released

I wish it included a fix for SMS notifications... I find I don't get a status icon or notification sound about 1/5 of the time.

The most stupid ota ive ever seen. "Does not work on rooted devices"

I agree. First they allow to unlock the bootloader and then they release an update just for unrooted device...make you happy with one hand and take it away with the other, boh!?!
Do you know if this update is available already in italy? I am mainly interested in the radio update 0.17

Actually I did, maybe if he had some content in his post instead of just posting the word update and a link to a website I would've found it.

Updates have never come to rooted devices, this is the first one I've seen actually address the issue, and probably due to HTC's bootloader policy.
As far as I know and the article said this update is only for T-Mobile USA, not any other countries.

Hope it will resolve HOME button issue:

According to cerebeln Radio base band would be 0.17 when European one(1.78) has the 0.16 version.
Let me hope ;-)

the radio is based on the software build... As I learned that the newest radio is not always the best radio

True. The 'best' radio depends on what ROM you are using. I have a TMOBUS device running on LeeDroid's ROM (EU). The EU radio works best for me since it is an EU ROM. When I restored my stock nand, the US version seemed to work better (data fluctuation and overall stability).

I just have no idea how we are going to flash the new radio, bootloader, etc without having an RUU or getting S-Off. Is it possible?

Can someone tell me if the legacy buttons on every single app is part of HTC? Because I know a lot of apps have the legacy buttons somewhere in the corner but the ones at the bottom are always there. If so, will this update have anything to do with it or am I just crazy?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2

Legacy button at the bottom is the fault of the app makers, not the phone, they haven't revised their code to optimize for ICS. One non-Google example of an app that does have the menu in the top corner is TripAdvisor. So, the update is not going to address that.

Well I saw someone post that they loaded a custom ROM on the HTC one x that uses the multicasting button as the menu button, do you happen to know if a stock ROM exist for this phone that does that?

Just entered internal testing phase at TMO. Won't come this month. HTC said they would release it by end of this month and THEY did! They released it to TMOBILE. It is now up to TMobile to verify, test, and push out, and I'm sorry to say they have promised nothing in the way of time frames. IF all goe well with internal testing, look for the release in the second half of April to first half of May.

What you have to remember is, when HTC promises a timeframe, that does notnjnclude the timeframe it takes the US carrier to release and update (phones that have the same model, but sold both internationally and in the US).
So as to when T-Mobile will push an ics update, well it's really impossible to tell.

T-mob tech support referred me to HTC's tech support number.
I called the other day about being sent to the teathering web site every time I use my browser, and they told me it's a known issue and tech is currently having issues with ics on their network. So they are probably trying to make everything compatible still

T-Mobile ICS upgrade
My suspicion is it's going to be a long time, if ever, before we see an official T-Mobile USA ICS upgrade for our Sensations.
Reasons being:
An ICS OTA upgrade will result in a huge bump in calls to T-Mobiles support lines. Having worked in a call center the last thing they want is more calls as more calls mean more $$ going out the door.
An ICS upgrade for the Sensation might undercut sales of the upcoming HTC One, which T-Mobile definitely doesn't want to do.
It would not surprise if the upgrade doesn't come before the fall or even if they blow it off completely. Just my opinion.

Yeah, what you said is not gonna happen. T-mobile upgrades phones all the time. They upgraded the mytouch from froyo to gingerbread, so why would they not upgrade the sensation from gingerbread to ics. They will get more calls to cs for not upgrading it than If they upgrade and have problems. But it will take a little longer, because they gotta get their bloatware working with it.

I think he was just referring to the other guy above, no quote just a bit confusing!
You people are so positive! I think that they are simply working to make their bloatware compatible with ics. The first thing I would do is delete that junk.
The tricky thing might be getting Wifi calling to work on ICS. I know some of the Rom developers were having trouble getting this working.
HTC Confirmed that the "Sensation 4G", which is T-mobile's branded version will get ICS, so I certainly think it is coming.
I am just worried their marketing team will push it off till after HTC One and Galaxy SIII launch so they get a bunch of people upgrading/renewing for pre-installed ICS phones...

Yep, my Sensation just updated to the newest Play store - v.3.5.15 along with a slew of apps that needed to be updated - some good, some bloated; among them Flash player 11 and slacker radio. So maybe these updated apps push may have something to do with ICS incompatibility.
Regardless, T-MO will eventually send out an ICS update. I'm hoping next week, but realistically, sometime in April. May would be a complete joke.
No ICS anytime soon...
Today T-Mobile started replying on Facebook to inquiries regarding ICS on the Sensation with variations of the following "T-Mobile USA Oh you're sporting the sensation, nice! right now we have done some tests with what HTC has provided us for ICS on the Sensation and the results were not exactly what we needed so HTC is currently working on fixing the bugs so we can roll that out. ^KM" In short they are saying they've run into problems and sent it back to HTC for review. Don't see this coming out anytime before the second half of the year.

T-Mobile Sensation 4G ICS --RELEASED--

I was speaking with a HTC customer service today with a basic support issue and while i was on the phone with them i asked about android 4.0. I take most claims like this with a grain of salt but being that this is from HTC tech support I assume that it is a reliable source. According to HTC, the ICS update for the T-Mobile Sensation
4G was released to be pushed YESTERDAY with the initial push starting today through April 1st with a schedualed upgrade completion by the end of april. I know there are a lot of naah sayers that will want to attack this post because they believe that it will be summer time or never or after the release og the HTC One S and to counter those comments before they happen i want to say very blatantly "I DONT CARE".
Man I hope whoever told you that was not BSing you. That would be great cause I want to wait for the official update before I S-off, flash a custom recovery and then a custom ICS ROM to my current Sensation.
I believe you,but what they said about it being pushed yesterday.... Does that mean it should be showing at any time today or tommrow?

Well to be honest it does make a difference, the difference being that I want to wait for the OTA. I have that right right you know. Not to mention I rather like the Visual Voice Mail app.
Don't get me wrong I tried several of the very first alpha and Beta ICS ROMs on my original Sensation. It was S-off and Super CID with a custom boot animation that I had made for myself. But it crapped out on me with total shutdown, it would not charge or turn on. And it did this very suddenly. So I had to get a replacement from T-Mobile and I want to keep this one stock until I get to try out the Official OTA for the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G. I am doing this just in case I want to request another replacement for any reason, oh and did I mention my replacement had bad dust under the screen so I am really considering replacing it anyway. That is another difference it makes. So as you can see you did not know all the variables and really should not have said something so arrogant. And it does make a difference.
Last night around 10:00 pm T-mobile sent a text and it said OTA UP three times, so I believe something is up......
Last nite I did the *#*#checkin#*#* thing and it came back with updates for almost all of The tmobile branded preinstalled apps.

I got a simple update for Gingerbread. My software number is now 1.50.531.1 before OTA it was 1.45.531.1.. Perhaps it's a prerequisite update ahead of the ICS OTA?

HTC Sensation 4G w/ Beats Audio
Doubt it
On their Facebook page the last couple days T-Mobile has been responding to inquiries about ICS on the Sensation with variations on the following theme "we are currently testing ICS on the Sensation but it isn't the experience we are looking for so HTC is working on our feedback before we send it out and we don't have a time yet. " Doesn't sound like it will be out anytime in the next few weeks. It sounds like T-Mobile and HTC will end up pointing fingers at each other leaving us waiting till at least the second half of the year for our ICS.

Sluggish WiFi? Try this:

If you're having trouble with WiFi becoming sluggish, it may be as simple as needing to delete your wifi data.
Navigate, in Root Explorer (or any capable of accessing /data) to /data/misc. Now, either delete the /data/misc/wifi folder entirely, or if you're being anal, you can rename it to something like 'backup_wifi'.
Reboot. On this startup, your phone will rebuild the wifi data, and if you're lucky, everything will be back up to speed. It helped out with my issues after flashing a few ROMs. Sometimes that stuff can get corrupted, as I can attest to with my HP Touchpad countless times. Once you're satisfied with the result, you can delete the old folder, if you chose to rename it instead of deleting it.
Anyways, post your results if you try it.
Weird how so many people are having bad WiFi and I'm not. It might be because I'm on the newest T-Mobile stock Rom.

OK, quote myself, there might be something wrong with what I said about Radio and Wifi, there might be no connection between these two. I read some other forums someone suggested Radio has nothing to do with wifi....
Sorry for the confusion, could any one who is familiar with Radio in Android comment on this? If there is indeed no link between these two, we might need to think other things which cause the Wifi problem.
My bad, should have done more research rather than just pointing to Radio which appeared on top of my head when thinking about the problem.

Official AT&T OTA update coming when?

Does anyone know when can we expect AT&T OTA update for HTC ONE X? I am very tempted to update to 1.85 but it will make me reinstall all the apps (including some corporate ones - for which it would be pain to get the corporate IT to cooperate), but I am holding off hoping that official OTA must not be that far out?
I am a very recent new customer to AT&T so I don't really know what is AT&T's track record regarding OTA? Do they do regularly all the time? Or, is it more like, once if you are lucky?
Thanks,
Osho
OTA AT&T
As a long time AT&T customer, Cingular before that (AT&T by another name) & Bell South Mobility (A division of AT&T). I can tell you that the wheels of a OTA firmware update grind extraordinarily slow. It will happen but there's no telling when.
If we knew, it would be plastered all over the tech blogs (Engadget, Android Central...).
yeh att drags their feet on this stuff..
If AT&T pushes an OTA update, will it detect if your bootloader is unlocked? Should you relock it before downloading the update?
1.85.502 ruu
Just as an aside, I've been running the leaked 1.85.502 ROM that is available and that the OP mentioned. I have had zero issues with it. The WiFi seems to be fixed, battery life seems to be improved and the system seems more responsive overall. As always when it comes to a leaked ROM... YMMV & FAYOR!!!

Does AT&T sell phones with different firmwares than what is the latest OTA update for the same phones that may have been sold earlier? This sounds soooo wrong at so many levels. Why 'punish' your first customers?

I guess it's possible that the batch of phones that were delayed in customs could have the new ROM on it... but... It makes me feel better (if this is actually the case) that the 1.85.502 ROM will be the next OTA update. There is a difference between the OTA ROM release and the RUU ROM, the latter clean installing the phone and the OTA not. Personally, I prefer a clean install / wipe over an incremental / update install. Less issues in the long run.

Nobody that has bought the phone after the customs hold up has had anything but 1.85 on their phone. I think it's legit, and part of the reason there was a delay.

Personally, I prefer a clean install / wipe over an incremental / update install. Less issues in the long run.

I tend to agree. Don't know if it was every definitely proven. But it seemed to me that on the HTC Flyer tablet people who updated to Honeycomb (from Gingerbread) using the OTA had pretty severe performance issues, while those that updated through "unofficial means" (RUU, custom ROMs) had great performance (including myself).

Confirmed, sort of at least. I got the notification update, but then my phone rang and apparently it cancelled the download process, so I'm back to being status "no update available".
I'll try again tomorrow.

That thread was discussing the upcoming ota and being ready for it.
This thread is a post update discussion. Also that thread was cleverly and so descriptively named 'update'. I hope to keep this one uncluttered and on topic.
Plus this one is actually in the proper location. So you should probably go troll somewhere else that doesn't make you look ignorant.

I tried to do a manual update and it says that no update is available. Device is completely stock. I'll try again later.

I am on the east coast USA. Tried manually, changing date and time, and rebooting. Still no update

So let's say it comes thru for me. Is there a way to pull the location of the update so as to be able to share it?

I think you have to have the phone plugged in and ADB running to watch the verbatim actions on the phone? (someone can chime in)
So ANY success at all? I'm on east coast and checking for update with no luck
Still nothing, and I keep checking. Also got an email reply from htc about source code. I posted the reply in general section

I hope improvements to 'camera stability' means improvements for when the camera:
isn't playing nice with multi-tasking,
isn't sleeping properly,
might be the cause of phone over heating,
might be the cause of random reboots,
might be the source of battery drain...
15:00 EST. "There are no updates available for your phone."
Chill out everyone. They have a 2-3 week window to roll out the update. It is Monday morning, and you know how Monday's are. I wouldn't expect to start seeing anything until later today or even tomorrow.

While I get what you're saying, it's hard for me to remain calm considering how erratic my signal is. Sometimes the phone just decides it has no sim card even though it does. Data hanging? Yep, I got that. Sporadic text notifications or lack thereof? Check. Having my phone function just as a phone would ease my nerves a little bit but as it stands it does it's own thing and it seriously affects my day to day.

Have you tried the EU update yet? I would suspect this US update is going to be very similar to what is already available in Europe.

to be honest I hope it wont be that similar. I am on 1.78, sim free phone, and it reboots sporadicly when switching from hsdpa to wifi.... I am crossing my fingers that the new radio included in 1.84 will solve this.

You are all just going to love this. According to the tech I was working with, we are going to have to wait for the OTA update notification before we can download. The wording on the website regarding manual download immediately is incorrect. You can only do that in the case where maybe you accidentally dismissed the OTA notification. He tells me that most notifications are received within 72 hours

I thought it was too nice of them to allow the enthusiasts to make a run on their servers.
Do we even have 1 confirmation of this being out yet?

Update: T-Mobile has altered the support document to reflect a change in the date, now June 4th through July 7th.
