I was speaking with a HTC customer service today with a basic support issue and while i was on the phone with them i asked about android 4.0. I take most claims like this with a grain of salt but being that this is from HTC tech support I assume that it is a reliable source. According to HTC, the ICS update for the T-Mobile Sensation
4G was released to be pushed YESTERDAY with the initial push starting today through April 1st with a schedualed upgrade completion by the end of april. I know there are a lot of naah sayers that will want to attack this post because they believe that it will be summer time or never or after the release og the HTC One S and to counter those comments before they happen i want to say very blatantly "I DONT CARE".
Man I hope whoever told you that was not BSing you. That would be great cause I want to wait for the official update before I S-off, flash a custom recovery and then a custom ICS ROM to my current Sensation.
I believe you,but what they said about it being pushed yesterday.... Does that mean it should be showing at any time today or tommrow?

IF they really did push it yesterday, it should show up SOON. From what I know, the carries have the say if they want it released or not.

Couple of days ago someone said OTA servers will push updates in the batches of 30,000 , so yeah update is definitely on its way. Though it would be crazy if T-mobile devices get ICS before unbranded devices lol

Well to be honest it does make a difference, the difference being that I want to wait for the OTA. I have that right right you know. Not to mention I rather like the Visual Voice Mail app.
Don't get me wrong I tried several of the very first alpha and Beta ICS ROMs on my original Sensation. It was S-off and Super CID with a custom boot animation that I had made for myself. But it crapped out on me with total shutdown, it would not charge or turn on. And it did this very suddenly. So I had to get a replacement from T-Mobile and I want to keep this one stock until I get to try out the Official OTA for the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G. I am doing this just in case I want to request another replacement for any reason, oh and did I mention my replacement had bad dust under the screen so I am really considering replacing it anyway. That is another difference it makes. So as you can see you did not know all the variables and really should not have said something so arrogant. And it does make a difference.
Last night around 10:00 pm T-mobile sent a text and it said OTA UP three times, so I believe something is up......
Last nite I did the *#*#checkin#*#* thing and it came back with updates for almost all of The tmobile branded preinstalled apps.

If I were you I'll do the S-OFF NOW...once the update been push there's no way to get s-off with hboot 1.27,
Robocik just got his phone back and can't get soff,so he brick his phone
To all US T-Mobile remember if you want S-OFF do it now.

I just got an OTA but it is NOT ICS OTA.
I got a simple update for Gingerbread. My software number is now 1.50.531.1 before OTA it was 1.45.531.1.. Perhaps it's a prerequisite update ahead of the ICS OTA?

A little late to the party I see.
HTC Sensation 4G w/ Beats Audio
Doubt it
On their Facebook page the last couple days T-Mobile has been responding to inquiries about ICS on the Sensation with variations on the following theme "we are currently testing ICS on the Sensation but it isn't the experience we are looking for so HTC is working on our feedback before we send it out and we don't have a time yet. " Doesn't sound like it will be out anytime in the next few weeks. It sounds like T-Mobile and HTC will end up pointing fingers at each other leaving us waiting till at least the second half of the year for our ICS.

So tmonews.com just announced another update for the 4g. http://www.tmonews.com/2010/11/android-phone-updates-galore/

Personally, I would wait for CM or another rom to come out. Video chat will probably be optimized (among other things) in those roms anyway and there is no telling what this will do to root. It may "fix" root and plug up the exploit so that you are back at square one again.

It's the same update we know about.
I would love cm on here but I hope there will be some way to keep the genius button. That's one piece of bloat ware that I love. I heard someone with a g2 had it on their rooted device so maybe a easy to add it to our custom ruins when they come out?

I was wondering about that also. If it was to plug a hole, it will become evident if those with the 2nd OTA find that the s=off and/or the rooting itself procedures no longer work. And then there is tethering....
Would TMo be that mean ???
If you make a backup using Clockwork, could you just reflash to get back to where you were if the new OTA takes away root?
If it's just a Qik update, can Qik from the new version be pulled from it and then installed on a phone without the newest OTA?
no because you need root to nandroid your phone
Only one update. If you have 2.2.1 thats the update for qik and some bugs; I got the email from HTC in their monthly news email.

**UPDATE 7/10**
We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience.
We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments.
HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

I should hope so, but who knows what wrenches HTC/Phone Providers might be able to throw into the mix.
I'm still more thrilled about a possible XDA unlock than by an HTC unlockm which could and in all likelihood will come with some sort of strings, warranty voiding ones, attached.
It's good to know that HTC isn't backing away from the promised unlocked bootloader. It's just a matter of time.

I really don't get some people. For weeks countless people have been whinging that HTC have not set a time frame for our bootlockers to be unlocked, now today HTC make an announcement setting a time frame and people still whinge.
We all bought the phone knowing that the bootlocker is locked with the understanding that in time it will be unlocked. Which is what HTC is doing. Personally I would rather wait until after extensive testing for the update to hopefully work correctly instead of a rushed update full of bugs.

I bought the phone knowing it was going to be unlocked one day. However, never owning an HTC device before, I quickly noticed how big of a drag Sense really was. The in store demos don't really work enough since it's not like you're going to login and customize everything. But once I had everything up and running I REALLY saw how much I prefered the stock experience. So I put the phone to it's side and kept the Nexus One as my daily driver.
However, with this announcement of unlocked bootloaders I will not return my phone like I previously thought.
So there's already been one update for Euro and now today people are getting 2.3.4 on Euro Sensations? WTF? I paid $600 USD for my T-mobile Sensation 4G...I should have just bought the Euro one so I would get updates.
I don't understand why HTC hasn't even released a maintenance update for T-Mobile Sensation to fix some of the bugs. Frustrating.

I've been tempted - I've rooted all my previous phones including my G2X that I still have but the problem is I now have work email/calendar on my Sensation via Good For Enterprise. That has a root check that will disable it if you're rooted - there's ways to work around it but it's a bit of a pain. Also I'd rather not root or touch my Sensation if I can get the update from HTC - having done this with many phones, while it's not always as fast the stock ROM on phones is usually the most stable/reliable (big exception is the G2X )

Good for Enterprise does not have root check. I have rooted Samsung Vibrant with CM7 on it and Good works no prob.
I had a great conversation with a lady named Monica at HTC call center in Indiana while processing my back cover exchange...She said they are indeed working on the update now and it is in a testing phase...She said that once it clears that then its up to T-mobile to push it out and we have like 3 updates she said. Why so many? IDK but she was very informative and nice.
So in theory she says they have a team that is ALWAYS working on every phones updates until that phone can no longer be supported anymore. So she said not to worry that it is coming and we should see at least 2 by September. Take it with a grain of salt, but I see no reason to not believe her.
Sounds more like a g2x forum with all the update stories

They most likely did send it to ATT but that is where it will most likely stay. You would be amazed how many WM releases we had that HTC pushed and sent to carriers that never made it to devices. She was right on her end. They are pushing the update but here in the states no OEM controls the software updates. Our carrier does

Just entered internal testing phase at TMO. Won't come this month. HTC said they would release it by end of this month and THEY did! They released it to TMOBILE. It is now up to TMobile to verify, test, and push out, and I'm sorry to say they have promised nothing in the way of time frames. IF all goe well with internal testing, look for the release in the second half of April to first half of May.

What you have to remember is, when HTC promises a timeframe, that does notnjnclude the timeframe it takes the US carrier to release and update (phones that have the same model, but sold both internationally and in the US).

T-Mobile ICS upgrade
My suspicion is it's going to be a long time, if ever, before we see an official T-Mobile USA ICS upgrade for our Sensations.
Reasons being:
An ICS OTA upgrade will result in a huge bump in calls to T-Mobiles support lines. Having worked in a call center the last thing they want is more calls as more calls mean more $$ going out the door.
An ICS upgrade for the Sensation might undercut sales of the upcoming HTC One, which T-Mobile definitely doesn't want to do.
It would not surprise if the upgrade doesn't come before the fall or even if they blow it off completely. Just my opinion.

An ICS upgrade for the Sensation might undercut sales of the upcoming HTC One, which T-Mobile definitely doesn't want to do.
It would not surprise if the upgrade doesn't come before the fall or even if they blow it off completely. Just my opinion.

Yeah, what you said is not gonna happen. T-mobile upgrades phones all the time. They upgraded the mytouch from froyo to gingerbread, so why would they not upgrade the sensation from gingerbread to ics. They will get more calls to cs for not upgrading it than If they upgrade and have problems. But it will take a little longer, because they gotta get their bloatware working with it.

I think he was just referring to the other guy above, no quote just a bit confusing!
You people are so positive! I think that they are simply working to make their bloatware compatible with ics. The first thing I would do is delete that junk.
The tricky thing might be getting Wifi calling to work on ICS. I know some of the Rom developers were having trouble getting this working.
HTC Confirmed that the "Sensation 4G", which is T-mobile's branded version will get ICS, so I certainly think it is coming.
I am just worried their marketing team will push it off till after HTC One and Galaxy SIII launch so they get a bunch of people upgrading/renewing for pre-installed ICS phones...

Yep, my Sensation just updated to the newest Play store - v.3.5.15 along with a slew of apps that needed to be updated - some good, some bloated; among them Flash player 11 and slacker radio. So maybe these updated apps push may have something to do with ICS incompatibility.
Regardless, T-MO will eventually send out an ICS update. I'm hoping next week, but realistically, sometime in April. May would be a complete joke.
No ICS anytime soon...
Today T-Mobile started replying on Facebook to inquiries regarding ICS on the Sensation with variations of the following "T-Mobile USA Oh you're sporting the sensation, nice! right now we have done some tests with what HTC has provided us for ICS on the Sensation and the results were not exactly what we needed so HTC is currently working on fixing the bugs so we can roll that out. ^KM" In short they are saying they've run into problems and sent it back to HTC for review. Don't see this coming out anytime before the second half of the year.

You know you might just be on to somethinng there, the part about the T-Mobile apps updating. I had noticed that like all of my T-Mobile apps updated within the last couple of days, and I do mean all of them. Maybe this is in preparation for the ICS update.

In this case, something tells me that I will not buy a phone from HTC and T-Mobile if it is true.
