HELP!!! Something is wrong!! - T-Mobile LG G2x

Out of no where my 3.5mm headphone jack is like jammed or something idk but whenever i try to plug in my earphones it doesnt go in all the way and its killing me because i always use my headset to listen to music and take calls. The only way it works if i push it down to the point where my phone can recognize it. This happened out of no where and i really need this problem to be fixed or i might just need a new phone so any help would be much appreciated.

I had the same issue. Just shine a light in. You most likely will see some pocket lint like I did. Take a small precision screwdriver and try to pull/pry the paper/ lint out. Do not use compressed air, as it will get even more stuck.

[FIX] headphones not registering properly

I and many others have had issues with this phone and the headphone jack not registering when you plug headphones in. Sometimes it would work if you pushed really hard, but it would always be picky about movement. I was convinced it was a software or hardware problem, but I have found the cause. Pocket lint! especially when wearing jeans lint can get into the jack and block the contacts. Fortunately this is easy to fix. Just take a thin paper clip, or for the nerdier of us an electronic component like a resister, works even better. If you are like me you have a huge pack of them laying around somewhere in your house. bend the very tip (1/16 of an inch or so) with some needle nose pliers, and with bright light carefully get the lint out, I've had to do it a few time now but it always works! I am mostly posting this because I am still laughing that I took my phone apart to find there was just lint, but hopefully this will help a few of you.
Might wanna take the battery out while performing this if you do use a metal hook.
Just a suggestion

I do it with it on and everything. There is no power in the headphone jack. plus the battery is way to low powered to do anything (especially if you do it with a resister like me)
I understand you probably know what you're doing. However, there are alot of others who are gonna read your OP and start shoving paperclips down in their phone. Thus the reason for my comment.
After being in the electronics industry for 20+ years, I have learned(sometimes the hard way) to try and remove the power source if possible.
Anyway, I respect your assistance. Carry on and ignore me if you want.

true. I understand. I have learned from electronics that it can never hurt to remove the power source whenever possible.

Thank you!
I have had exactly the same problem for last 2-3 weeks... I was getting ready to send the phone to Motorola for repairs.
Stumbled upon this thread and immediately had a feeling that this gotta be it. Took out the battery (usually something bad happens to gadgets when I try to fix them), used a paperclip to take some lint out, and voila! Headphones are back.
lkrasner, thank you for sharing, your post saved a lot of hassle and money!
P.S. Damn you, pocket lint!
Awesome.
Thank you! Never would have looked there. Worked perfectly.

Low in call volume confirmed fix!

Hey guys, so I've been searching and searching for a fix for this darned low in call volume either from headset or from speaker.
Well after some time of searching I came across a confirmed solution.
I know it sounds weird... But if you take a toothbrush and use the tip on the speakers grills it clears the debris from the speakers and therfore increase volume. I just tried it on my phone and it MAJORLY increased in call volume AND speaker volume (if you clean the rear speaker grill too).
It worked for me so I had to share it. I take no credit for the fix.
Give it a shot and post results.
For your next trick, explain to us how clearing debris from the speakers on the device could possibly help low volume coming from a headset.

I think im confusing you. would "Earpiece" be a better word? the part that you hold your ear to when youre talking on the phone. theres a bunch of little holes right there. clean that part with the bristles of a toothbrush because theyre small enough to fit in the holes and they dont damage anything. ther'es also a set of holes on the back of the phone where the main "speaker" is. you could use the same method on those.
but i mean, my bad for trying to be helpful

Maybe just maybe dust particles can clog the speaker holes. Thus blocking sound from coming through.
You ever think of that?

Your issue might be with the software. What Rom are you running? Also what sound mods if any? I know that they like to interfere. I know I had to really make sure the bristles were getting in to the holes and once I did that debris started to come out. Maybe that helps

Electric toothbrush did the trick for me. Who would have thought!
I just did this, all I have to say is, thank you. My girlfriend was ready to kill me every time I called because i would make her repeat herself constantly.
I tried compressed air first and it seemed to help a little, then I took a clean new toothbrush and "picked" at the speaker holes with the bristles. I was amazed to see all this dust piling up on the screen as it came out. I used to have my volume maxed and any background noise would drown out someone on the line (car was impossible), now I can turn the volume down 4 notches and hear everyone just fine.
I like the idea of electric, some vibration to knock things loose, might try that next time.
Thanks for the idea!
Geeeeeez I picked and picked with the toothbrush. As posted above dirt was flinging all over the screen and back panel. So I took my vaccum extension and would suck it directly over the grilles.. it improved volume by 200% probably. Something I've been complaining about for months, I've skipped over and it took me 5 minutes to improve

HTC ONE M8 call volume
Hi guys,
I did a soft reset and this seemed to have fixed the problem.
Soft reset doesnt delete any data as a factory reset would,
To perform this - Hold and press the Power Button & Volume Up key. The phone will restart.
Good luck!
Is there any solution for low speaker volume ? any suggestion will be appreciated.

Cleaning speaker grill?

Hi guys, is there a safe way of cleaning the speaker grill? Mine us full of dust and it has started bothering me.
Any idea? How do you clean it?
Best regards
Either blow in it. Or shoot it with compressed air.
Wouldnt that make go the dust inside?
You could take a small shop vac and put i up against the grill to suck out the garbage, or if you want, even better, take apart your N5 and clean it out that way with compressed air and a shop vac. Pretty simple to open up a N5 if you have the right tools:
I know it says for Iphone, but the guitar pic type tool works best on the N5:

Of you can use your fingers, this video makes me cringe but you could do it this way:

Frustrating strangeness

My M8 is being goofy and I need some advice. For some reason the thing keeps randomly kicking over to docking mode, playing my ringtone, and the diskette defaults to speaker which is getting real hard on my hearing.
I tried wiping and restoring to a NAND backup but the issues persist. I'm thinking firmware or radios are the issue.
If im wrong, can someone suggest a fix? If updating the firmware sounds wise, could some kind soul post a link to the latest firmware for the Verizon M8?

You aren't going to like my answer but this problem can be solved by replacing the flex cable inside the phone. I have had to do this for a few phones already. It's a $15 part plus you would be wise to buy the $11 speaker grill stickers to replace the ones you take off as they won't be reasonably reusable.
There are very small ic and smd on this cable that can break loose and cause this exact symptom.

You're right. I don't like that answer a whole lot. Then again, I do like that it can be fixed for a somewhat reasonable price. The phone spends a lot of time on the dashboard of a big rig and the harsh vibration made me wonder if something like that might be the case. Is is the flex cable for the USB port? I'm probably going to take it to a shop and have it done rather than try it myself.

Yes that's exactly what it is. Make sure they get the 32g version as the other one is missing an antenna connector.

The vibration is easily fixed, carry the phone in your shirt pocket or ?? Your body is as good a vibration insulator as you can find anywhere!

I keep my phone on my body as little as possible. Its real uncomfortable to have a phone this big stuffed in a pants pocket all day and I almost never wear shirts with pockets. Even when I do I don't put the phone in them because its fallen out too many times. I'll probably lay it on a towel up there or something.
Mege-thanks!
I wanted to take a moment to give many thanks and utmost appreciation for the help on this problem. I got the board today and just finished installing it a few minutes ago. It's working like charm! I'm VERY happy!

Need urgent HELP plz.

Hi all...
Could you check one thing for me pls?
Put your OP6 on a hard surface like a study table(mine is made of wood) and charge it. Take off any case etc. Also without any shoes or slippers etc.
Then run your fingers along the sides i.e. along the metal frame while it's charging.
Do you feel like a hint of current/electricity on your fingers?
I feel like the minutest of minute vibration while running my fingers.
But only when it's on a hard surface.
When I hold it in my hands, I don't feel anything.
Please kindly do this test and tell me.
Thank you.

That happens with MacBook too! I mean thats electrical discharge / leakage. Thats pretty normal. You might get a minor shock if you lick the metallic contacts or if the same comes in contact with your sensitive areas like elbow, belly and below that
Relax!

Same happens on my OP3, but it stopped after few months randomly. I think you shouldn't get the replacament unit, or at least i didn't because i don't live in a country that oneplus is officially selling devices, if you do and it's not much pida, go ahead, but you might get the same resultl lol
