I just bought a Droid 2 Global and I am wondering should I root it, what benefits does rooting give me for this phone?
It basically gives you super user access. It is pretty easy to do now thanks to some great guides on here. Most people find it is worth the effort. It all depends on what you want to do with your phone.
dun root it if u r not sure wat r u doin
read more about "what after rooting"
+1 if you're not sure what you are doing, do some research before you decide to root

Are the roms for this phone pretty decent? Any good Gingerbread's out there because if not I don't think I would find it worth it to root it

Oh I know HOW to root I just want to make sure it's worth it to go through it
If you ever need/want wireless tether or want to get rid of bloatware, rooting is definitely worth the price of admission. Plus with Z4root and the SBF, it is SUPER easy to root and SUPER easy to unroot the D2G.
Good luck!

ill be honest I have no idea what sbf is lol
Find the app Z4 Root, install it and open it and that's it.
I un-rooted my d2g just because I wasn't gonna flash a rom, or freeze the bloatware since it doesn't bother me and I don't use it.

Wireless tether
In my opinion, the wireless tether option is worth its weight in gold. Love it. I am a student an often have found myself in search of wireless service on my laptop. Now, it is everywhere as long as my phone is with me.
Yes you should definitely root. I would recommend z4root if you go about doing it because it is easy and I don't believe that it will mess up your phone

I downloaded and rooted with z4 on mine and I still couldn't delete the pre loaded crap that verizon reloads. What's the trick? And how do I use the tether ?
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA Premium App
to delete the preloaded crap, use titanium backup, but i recommend freezing apps so you could update later, i use app freezer for root for that. to tether download the wireless tether app.

That's why I rooted. Have the Evo and wanted the option of wireless tether. Switched to Verizon today. Getting the Thunderbolt for myself, the D2 for the wife and the Fascinates for my kids. Definitely gonna root them all. Like the options of getting games! Don't want to pay $20 for hotspot if I want to use it.
If Google keeps Android open source and they want Android to be modded why don't they just give root access with Android? Why do they keep patching the exploits?
I don't know enough about this.. But I think its more carriers locking things up.. and I think by providing root access off the bat people who don't know what they are doing can quickly screw up their phone.... Which leads to headaches

Ye. Sounds more like that. Sounds like giving all that permission to people that don't know what they are doing can cause lots of problems, and also increase the number to calls for support for this reason. Still, I don't find any problem in bringing the phone unrooted. It's simple to root.
agree, but the most annoying part is warranty

If it didn't void the warranty, companies would loose a bunch of money to people who just try to load up anything on their phone and continually brick them. If you go buy a new truck, enter it into a demolition derby, and take it back to the dealer and complain about the dents, should they warranty it? There has to be some protection for them, otherwise there is no profit, no profit no new phones.
If you get a Google Nexus developer phone, you can get root access easily.

So Im trying to unlock my skyrocket and ATT is not letting me saying that device is excluaive etc....
I see on eBay, youtube etc... thay there is a way to unlock using some app via USB.
Is this real? Where can I find this with out paying?

You cant. U gots to pay for unlock code. Whst ever u tried was either not four this device or a flat out lie.

basically there is no free unlock. U have to pay for it as it stands right now
AT&T is evil. Check out this thread also. You can also wait 6-8 months, and AT&T SHOULD have an unlock code by then.

I think 6-8 months is a bit far fetched. They usually do 6-8 after release, which we are approaching. I guess Ill keep trying with ATT. I tought we can do the USB unlocking like the sg2 and like the sites are offering paid service.

all we need is a dedicated dev to find the hidden files where the code lives, like they did on the galaxy s 4g, that was so easy i unlocked 5 of those in less than 1 hour, FREE.
So naturally when the galaxy came out, I tried the same way as in before but no luck the files are somewhere else and are very difficult to find

Something to keep an eye on, although I doubt I'll have that much use for it. I'm not taking my Skyrocket to another carrier anytime soon.

They are by far the worst provider I have ever dealt with.
Ok so, after much fighting with regular ATT reps and speaking to managers, I got nowhere, but on Saturday I called 916 843 4685 which is the international department, 1 minute conversation basically I need unlock code, here is my IMEI and here is my email. Today I got the email with the code. DO NOT waste time with regular CS, call international department directly !
I'm new to HTC, just got my M8 today actually. I am most likely going to cough up the $25 for sunshine's root & unlock. However, I just have 2 questions.
In the case that I may need to send my phone in for repair…
A)Is it possible to go back to being locked & unrooted, once doing sunshine's method?
And if so,…
B) Will I be forced to pay another $25 to root & unlock again after?
Thanks in advance!!
Yes and yes
Wow, forced to pay twice...that's some BS.

Ya it's a little rough, I think it should be on a per user basis, or maybe allow the app to work for a full year or so.
Still better than not having s-off, at least you'll know if you have to get a new device they'll definitely update the app to stay current with the firmware.

I'm able to gain temp root with weaksauce...just can't update my su binaries just yet. I haven't really had time to look into this all, but here's a screenshot of the way my phone was shipped. Any thoughts?
So does this mean I may not need sunshine?

You may be able to use Firewater then which is free.
Check out http://firewater-soff.com/ and see if it works for you. If so, You are golden. This was made by the same guys that made sunshine.

Great! That's good to know. Thanks man
I know i may get some slack for this post but is it realistically possible that someone could find a root method that doesnt trip knox. My last device was a note 3 so i havent followed whether the s5, note 4 or s6 have acheived this. I like the idea of samsung pay (even though im in the beta and it doesnt work with my car) and im hoping it works with my card once the app is public. I cant live with a phone that cant run a custom rom but if i at least have root i feel like i could manage. So am i just being stupid and say screw samsung pay or is their a real possiblity that someone could find root without the knox trip.

Would be nice, but. Samsung pay isn't working for me on any card I have. So I'm about to pull the trigger on Knox , and get new recovery and flash deodex rom.

It only works for Bank of America or US Bank cards now I believe although there is support for Amex, Visa and Mastercard. They will probably be up and running once Samsung Pay is officially launched on the 28th. I can tell you this. Samsung Pay is a battery hog. It runs all the time unlike Google Wallet that you open when you need it. And the way you unlock your phone is tied into Samsung Pay. For example, if you select fingerprint scanner for Samsung Pay it automatically becomes the lockscreen default to unlock the phone. So if you want a pattern to unlock your phone you have to change it in Samsung Pay to unlock the device. You can't have both. Well at least when I tried you couldn't. LoL
I dont think enough devs have a note 5, i would guess something may come out of another phone maybe and translate over. I'm in the same boat, my n3 was rooted right away once I was convinced sprint wasnt going to deny a warranty claim over knox. I'm kinda holding out for s pay, but if it sounds like a bunch of brain damage....
Actually just thought of something, I use drive through and eat at bars and restaurants a lot, not keen on handing my phone to someone, probably gonna pass on s pay...

Im guessing no one else has found any data to support this. I would assume someone would be talking about it by now....but, it seems development is kinda slow (absolutely no disrespect intended) or the possiblity is people who want root are not concerned about knox so there hasnt been alot of interest. From what i can tell though is kingroot was for earlier devices and doesnt even work on an updated note 4 let alone a 5. Someone tell me im wrong. Im offereing 20 bucks for a root method. lol i know thats weak but maybe other people will join me. Thanks to anyone that looks into this.

Also offering 20 bux to developer for root method that don't trip Knox on 5.1.1 sprint s6 edge plus
I actually have many compatible Samsung Pay cards and am enjoying the service... really don't want to lose it. Hopefully someone comes up with something.
Don't think it will ever happen!!!!!!
My money is burning a whole in my pocket waiting to be sent to the person that successfully obtains permanent root WITHOUT tripping the dreadful knox! $10 $20 $30 $40????

I have a T567V Verizon tab E that is a Farley new device and although king root said it didn't have a root method I was able to continue and get root on a Verizon without tripping Knox so see no reason it would on the note 5
Tried it and it seems it does not work. Seemed to good to be true

why not just trip the knox and use google pay or other services out there? for me rooting and being able to customize and overclock is the priority than samsung pay..ill just use google pay instead
Having to switch kernals everytime i need to use gearvr is whats kinda stopping me. Also i thought android pay now detects all root even "systemless"
