Now that we have permanent root, is there anyway we can get a clockwork mod working on out phone?
EDIT: ClockworkMod now available...MUST BE ON WIFI TO FIND
I read on twitter they're porting the recovery images for our phones and it should be ready soon

sounds awesome. thanks for the great news
This is awesome...
Hope they get it going soon. I got ahead of the game, and had their ROM manager installed and flashed the alternate recovery (all this after permanent root).
It does not work (works great on N1 - but not on this one yet).
Do not think anything else is messed up (as when selecting recovery at hboot - it shows stock options and then an error message further down...).
I thinks as soon as Clockworkmod gets the MT4G setup and it appears in the choice of devices, it should be easy to just flash their recovery over the one that I flashed earlier.

The "alternate recovery" in ClockWorkMod is Amon Ra Recovery (arguably better). I'm such he's working for a port for all the devices that got permrooted yesterday.
kmobs has it running now. Not sure when it will be released though.
Dang they already have roms for the g2! I wonder if we'll get any love for the mt4g

Not until some devs pickup the phone. It is good that Kmobs has one cuz he may get the ball rolling but most devs (at least the ones I follow) all picked up a G2. Be patient though, I thought the MTslide was dead a few months back but there are still ROMs being released over there.
I think well be in luck with support.this phone is a whole different beast from the mt3g and hopefully much more appealing to devs, as it is consumers. Also,I think KingKlick has one and he made some great roms for the N1

To be fair, the ROM they have on the G2 forums is from the HTC Desire Z which is the exact same identical device as the G2.
Which makes me wonder if it'll be possible to load the Desire HD ROM without much porting work needing to be done given the similarities in internals.

What did he get banned for? I came from the Evo section, so all I ever saw was his kernels popping up.
They have ported over Rom Manager and their recovery to handle the GT already. I am hoping that they do so for the MT4G soon, as I do not have a working recovery right now.

Supposedly, he was taking ROMs from the other devs in the Nexus One forms, tweaking them just ever so slightly, then re-releasing them as his own creation with no credit due.
Emphasis on the supposedly.
If anyone gets their hands on a custom recovery before everyone else, I have a flashable rooted stock with bloatware removed uploading right now to Rapid Share. So, if you want to try it let me know. But be advised...IT IS UNTESTED!

I just bought the paid version of rom manager and I cant view the premium roms, just the free ones... any sugestions?
It all depends on what rom maker has contacted and hosted their roms with rom manager. So from what I see only Cognition is downloadable from there as DG is hosting his roms with them.
Just cause the rom is here or elsewhere on the net doesn't mean it automatically shows up in Rom Manager. The rom maker has to give it to rom manager to host.
I hope I understood your question
I understand that, but according the the market description and everywhere else I looked there should be a larger selection if you buy the premium version, which I did, and that was the reason I bought it.
that description covers every single phone, true on other phones there is a wider selection to choose from. but on the captivate you have a VERY limited selection, CM7 and i wasnt aware but apparently cognition also. there is a free version of a rom manager like grouping of roms for your device its called the development section right here on xda
Well that was a waste of 6 bucks...

The market description is generic, the only premium rom you can get on a captivate with rom manager is cm7.
Same problem here. CM7 page says to use ROM Manager Premium to flash latest CM7. I bought the app and no Premium ROMs. In fact, only ROM was in the free section (Design Gears Cognition).
I tweeted the app author about the Prem ROMs, specifically CM7. Never got any reply. Now I noticed that the Cognition ROM had been moved from the Free section to the Prem section.
May have to contact Paypal for refund - app not as advertised and no contact from developer. I'm guessing it was a good app at one time for all the previous reviews and recommendations from CWM and CM, but something's changed.

no. this app is great for other ANDROID phones, but not galaxy S phones.....do some research next time.
Hope you weren't directing that to me. Research was done. Check out Cyanogen's wiki on installing CM7 on Galaxy S phones. I'd post the link for you, but I need to post more to this forum in order to post outside links. And i'm sure you'll be able to find their Wiki easily.

I was directing that at you. I have installed cm7 on one captivate using rom manager (free version). It worked fine but rom manager has never had roms for our phone. It has a bunch of roms available for my desire z and my mytouch4g, but nothing for the captivate. Want to know why? Rom developers don't put their roms in rom manager. Its not the fault of koush (the app dev for rom manager), the fault lies on the rom devs. You want to complain that there are no roms available for your device on rom manager? Complain to them. Don't lay blame on koush or talk trash about his app.
Sent from my HTC Vision
The big reason that cm7 directs you towards rom manager is that the creater of rom manager played a big part in the captivate getting cm7 in the first place. Its their way of saying thanks for all the hard work. I believe the plan is to host cm7 with rom manager after they have a stable release

@Pirateghost - saying that the developer didn't reply to a question about his app is not trashing him. Nor did I intend to trash him. If you'd check RM before ranting to people, you'd see that it does support some CM7 ROMS. And if you'd check CyanogenMod's page and wiki, you'd see that they list using RM as their first option to flash CM7.
I've found my answer to this already, so take this as some constructive criticism; people come to these forums to find answers from people who can help or to get pointed in the right direction. Don't just answer "do some research". Like I already posted; I did the research, and if you did, you would know that both RM and Cyanogen work together. The original thread for this topic was that the Roms weren't showing at the time the OP posted.
Thank you.

why would i need to do the fkn research on something i use all the time on my other phones????
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I can't seem to find anything solid on it - and I'm new to the device, and very limited 'experience' flashing my old Wildfire.
What I want is a stock (Google stock, not HTC stock) that is capable of receiving OTA updates as soon as Google releases a new iteration of Android. Essentially like a Nexus device.
I'm not bothered about any other hacky features (for the moment, at least). I just want an AOSP ROM that ideally have OTA updates.
Do the TMOUS ROMs do this?
Also, can someone please briefly explain (or link to a guide - I couldn't find one) how to flash said ROM without adb/AndroidSDK?
Thanks in advance,
PS:

Ah, okay, thanks.
So, in general (and therefore one could assume Sensation AOSP ROMs once ou of infancy) do AOSP ROMs allow OTA updating, like as soon as the Nexus devices get them?
Or do the developers of said ROMs still need to tweak them, and there is no bog-standard Google ROM?
The forums are split up into sections there is one called Q and A post further questions there unless your a developer sharing a mod or Rom you more then likely shouldn't create threads here.

pretty much every dev rom has OTA updating disabled, because an OTA update would do things like disable root.
also the only OTA update a sensation would ever receive is an update with Sense, which would be incompatible with whichever AOSP rom you have.
most devs update their roms pretty quickly after an OTA though. unless it is an entirely new android version, which can take some time.

There is no stock Android ROM from Google for the Sensation - any would have to be ported from another device or created from scratch from source. As such, there will never be OTA updates from Google themselves as the ROM would not have come from them

Hopefully an AOSP ROM for Sensation will arrive before long that has OTA updates in some capacity outside of ROM Manager.

You're not quite getting it, the sensation will never get an ota update outside of rom manager, unless you're running a stock, non-rooted sense rom.
The *only* devices that will get an aosp ota of any kind outside of rom manager are the nexus devices. There's no way around that.

Let's put it this way.
Nexus series gets official updates from Google because Google is the one that's 'selling/branding' the devices. Just take Google in this case as yet another manufacturer which provides OTA for its fleet of devices. Like for HTC, it provides OTA updates for our devices with Sense..

These two seem to contradict, what I'm asking is if the update from ROM dev is OTA through settings or whatever, or if it requires a flash and possibly wipe of dalvik cache?
I'm surprised no one has done an AdamG and compiled an AOSP ROM for the Sensation. He did it for the Desire and it was an AWESOME ROM

First quote: talking about making a rom based on an ota from HTC, I.e. behind Google's current release version.
2nd quote: talking about an aosp rom. And no, there isn't a way for us to do an ota update through the settings menu, only through cwm/rom manager.

Well, I have a question for you.
Recently I use one of the roms and decided to redo it slightly by adding or subtracting the appropriate applications, improving a few mistakes, etc.
Can I publish this ROM for all forum members, and if so, whether the new subject, or as a post? Of course, adding the original authors ROM.
Rather than asking everyone, try asking the one who originally developed the ROM. We don't care what happens, as long as he/she is OK with it

Hi guys,
First I must begin by saying that I am not a developer. However, using this: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908008) thread, I have managed to "port" Android L to the One, though I have no clue if it even boots. There are a few problems that need to be discussed:
1) AOSP ROMs are around 400 mb? This one is 900+ mb.
2) When I was zipping the ROM, I saw Prism.apk was also in it, and a heck lot of other HTC related things.
3) Will the current kernel for KitKat work smoothly on L?
Anyway, this is my first step to being a potential developer and hope you all get excited for this. I do have one request though, if I can get a few devs to work with me on this, we can get to new heights on our One.
You can download the zip I created here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4JA1Kc3xlxiZUw2XzNzM1NKMVU/edit?usp=sharing

Did you miss the [Dev-Only] in the title? Every flash on your device could brick it if you aren't careful, nothing unique with this build. If you don't want to risk it, don't flash. Simple as that.

Im not a dev just a general user but I don't think we should be creating these types of threads if you don't know what you're doing. Let the real devs do their work if it was as easy as following a copy/pasting port guide every device would already have a l build. Just be patient and eventually a nice dev will maybe make some magic happen for us.

This ROM will not work, period. The reason is because you did not follow step 1 of the guide which states quite clearly:
"Take any clean CM9, AOSP, CM7, CM10, CM11 ROM which is running on your device as Base ROM."
Now, don't know about you but I do not think a stock deodexed Sense 6 ROM counts as any of those mentioned in step 1... that is why you are seeing HTC things in the ROM.

I think your best bet would be to download the Nexus 5 sources and then do some "patchwork" with HTC One libs and whatnot, when needed. The good thing is that they are both at the same resolution and have similar specs.
And after you're done with that, you should be able to build with a couple of adjustments to various build-related things.
EDIT: Also, there will probably be issues with kernels? so you'll have to work through that also.

You can't be patching and copy/pasting libs. No zip modding when it comes to porting big base changes
You'll need to decompile and redo your ramdisk etc. And like jonny said you can't be using sense and gpe parts

Android L Keyboard in Play Store
I just wanted to note that there's a third-party application "Android L Keyboard" by Shen Le in the Play Store which I've been using on the latest CM11 nightlies that works great.
I understand that's not the point of this project but I just wanted to make sure other users are aware. Also, it's kind of scary to have to trust that a keyboard from the Play Store isn't logging and reporting your keystrokes but that's another issue entirely... anyways I added a screenshot, good luck with the project!
