Flash from ICS to GB - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the G2X, but not flashing and Android.
When I had a Droid2 I remember when I flashed to gingerbread I had to SBF back to froyo to flash another froyo rom. Do I need to bring the G2X back to stock to flash say CM7 or can I just wipe and flash from ICS to CM7?
Thanks in advance!!

Yes you can switch from ICS to GB no problem make sure the kernel you will use (if you change the default kernel from the rom you're about to install) is appropriate for the Android version

Zip for stock 2.1?

I first apologize if this is a repeat question as I'm doing this from tapatalk which has no search function. Wanting to downgrade from Nightlies to stock 2.1 and wanted to know if a zip version of stock 2.1 (.5 ver.) exists or I have to flash with the RUU. I had a nandroid of 2.1 but it is corrupted. Thanks

If you want stock stock, then yes, you must RUU. But if you want a stock rooted rom, I would check this out. Let me know if this helps or if you have any more questions!
Thanks ill check it out. Really want stock rooted but nothing more.

See the PM I sent you
I reccomend doing an ruu to the newest version (.6) and using androot to get root and superuser permissions and rom manager to download/flash a recovery image. Its my most stable setup i've had yet.

[Q] updating a rooted inspire?

I just received a update notification from htc. Should I download it or just install a updated custom rom instead? Because I want to make sure I dont lose my root? Any help would be great
NOOOOO!!! just flash a rom head on over to the development section and take your pick. If you want a sense rom their are roms that have sense 3.0. Or if you want good'ol vanilla Android (mmm vanilla) then you got CyanogenMod 7 and others, or everyones favorite the MIUI rom.
PS if you update using the stock roms updater thingy you'll loose root

Even if you try to install it it wont work. It'll probably send you to the screen with an exclamation point, then you'll need to pull the battery to boot back up. If you want the gb update stock rooted, genepoole has one available in the general section.
no hay de queso no mas de papa
Thanks!
Thanks to both of you for your help I appreciate it!
Youre welcome

Firmware

If i update to the 3.12 firmware can I flash both gingerbread and 4.0 roms? Or would I have to downgrade to the original firmware?if so where can I find the original firmware?

Yep you can, but the latest version of ARHD (6.1 and later) won't work since it needs 3.24.
O ok thanks bro, so if let's say I wanted to go to another rom that's 2.3 I would have to go back to 3.12?
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
Yeah that's right.
I replied to your other thread....
Yes you will be able to flash both GB and ICS. If you flash the 3.24 firmware which is the newest you will only be able to use the newest sense 3.6 roms unless you roll back to 3.12 firmware. The 3.12 firmware will allow you to flash any sense 3.5 rom GB or ICS.
O so 3.24 is basically for the sense 4.0 roms and the 3.12 works for both 4.0 & 2.3 but not 3.6 sense got ya thanks a lot bros. So if I flash the senseless rom I can use 3.12 and if I want to go to Miui I won't have to change firmwares

[Q]Official ICS release

If the official ICS will release, do I have to switch back to my stock rom? unroot? Im using Revolution HD ROM.
How can I restore back my stock rom?
Only if you want the official one.
I assume a rooted version will come out quickly after release and you could just flash that and not have to worry about unrooting etc.
One way you could revert is to downgrade the firmware to a version that's compatible with Gingerbread and then restore the nandroid of your stock ROM if you did one.

You'll be able to pull the stock kernal from the stock rom, which is located here.
I have no idea how to rip the kernel from the rom...I just want a flashable zip

Do you want the Stock AOSP kernel for ICS or the hTc Ics stock kernel?
I recommend that you flash Sebastian's Kernel v1.20 from HERE.
That version is basically stock Kernel (the source was not out yet) but hexedited to speed the clock up. I use it and is stable as a rock and with excellent battery life.
Stock Kernel
I've pulled the Stock Kernels from Sensation Xe and normal for ICS.
And made them flashable through a .zip, but do a nandroid first.
I need the HTC sense stock kernel and not the aosp...I tried to flash ur zip and it just told me installation aborted.

I will tomorrow work on a working .zip file
Anyone else getting those zips @ 554 bytes instead of 3.93Mb from post 11 (above)?
Could they be uploaded again SSKYY?
Thanks.
MMB.
Works with HTC Sensation ICS + Sense 3.6?
