I just received a update notification from htc. Should I download it or just install a updated custom rom instead? Because I want to make sure I dont lose my root? Any help would be great
NOOOOO!!! just flash a rom head on over to the development section and take your pick. If you want a sense rom their are roms that have sense 3.0. Or if you want good'ol vanilla Android (mmm vanilla) then you got CyanogenMod 7 and others, or everyones favorite the MIUI rom.
PS if you update using the stock roms updater thingy you'll loose root

Even if you try to install it it wont work. It'll probably send you to the screen with an exclamation point, then you'll need to pull the battery to boot back up. If you want the gb update stock rooted, genepoole has one available in the general section.

Thanks!
Thanks to both of you for your help I appreciate it!

I rooted my phone with a 1
Not sure what A1 is . But if your sure you have Full Root, not Temp Root. Have Superuser Permissions. Also installed recovery. It would be Clockwork Mod Recovery. Then just place the Gingerbread Rom of your choice in the root of your SD Card. Boot into Recovery. Do a full wipe, and then Flash your Rom. If your not sure what these terms are, then I would highly suggest doing a bit more reading and research before you flash a rom. Just a heads up from someone who's been there .
Thanks
My initial question was apparently incomplete, but you anticipated it.
I rooted my HTC Shift with a 1-step program.
Now, the OTA Gingerbread from HTC will not install.
Follow up questions:
--is there a particular Gingerbread ROM from HTC for the HTC EVO Shift 4G? Where do I find a Gingerbread ROM that will run on the HTC EVO Shift?
--if I install a Gingerbread ROM, will that wipe out the root?
Thanks again

If your looking for the official update from HTC but don't want to break root you can use this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127169
It's basically a rooted version of the official update.
If you looking to keep Sense you might want to look into Mik's Gingerbread ROMs. They are running Gingerbread, Sense 2.1 with some 3.0 elements.
Check over in the Shift Development section (
EVO Shift 4G Android Development), there are several Gingerbread ROMs for the Shift... Both Sense and AOSP. Just read through the threads and decide which one(s) you want to try.
You beat me to it crump . But yes most deffinately, X99's rom is a nice Factory Stockish Rom. As far as MikShifted G, I have nothing but GREAT things to say about it of course . If you want a link on where to download. Just click on my Sig

Here is what I am wondering is it possible for a flashed phone with the MikMik rom on it to be flashed to 2.3 gingerbread. I recently purchased this phone with MikMik on it and want to go to 2.3 Gingerbread. Any help would be appreciated.
What version of the rom are you running? The current versions (MikShifted-G at least) are a GB rom (2.3.3)
Yeah mostly all our roms are Gingerbread base. If you look at the software information under settings it will tell you what Android version you are on

You can run the RUU to go back to stock gingerbread but you will lose all root access or there are stock gingerbread roms with root access on the second or third page of the development section. I would link you to it but I'm on my phone

Hi guys!
Have been thinking a long time about rooting my Sensation, but havent done it yet cus 4.0 is comming up in the end of march. But it got me thinking, when 4.0 comes out and I conclude. That it sucks, will i be avible to root it and innstall custom rom kernel on it? Or do I have to wait until the devs have done som magic?
Thanks for pros cons on this, and thanks for this great forum - allways fun reading!
I say root it now. Once ics comes out devs will have it right away and youbwill have a syabke ica

same thought and when a stable ruu of sense 4.0 comes out and you like it(test it with normal kernel no custom for good test)you can s-on again and u have it tested and u can make it undone always remeber to look up ur ruu first!
anyone got a link with the htc sensation europa ruu of the stock 2.3.4?
All the custom ICS ROMs based on RUU 3.30.4 and 3.30.401 are very stable, fast, smooth and reliable. Sense 3.6 is a bit nicer than 3.0 or 3.5, so there's an advantage there as well.
When (if) Sense 4.0 comes out for Sensation, you'll be ready to go, we will probably get it before the general public anyway.
If you do root and want to go to an Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3/Sense 3.6) make sure you read the threads relating to upgrading firmware etc., you can get stuck, or even brick your phone if you don't follow the instructions to the letter.
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21989063&postcount=1
Good luck and don't forget to have some fun.

Take the plunge!
All the ICS roms out now are pretty stable and there are a lot of guides that will help you get to that moment. Make sure to READ AND UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING before you do anything to your phone!
yeh. we will have a stable sense 4.0 here in a month or so.
as of now. there is 2 sense 4.0 roms. and MODS dont bash me for this.
Trips rom and Mdeejay's rom. from what i read. trip has almost everything working. and mdeejay's rom is getting there. my 2 cents
If I just root my phone but still use the stock ROM (no change, mods whatsoever) can I still receive the OTA update without problem?

Probably not. If you are interested in the OTA I think you may be better off staying stock, unrooted.
If you do root, odds are you would have to get the updated RUU yourself and run it.
If you were planning on staying with stock ROMs and kernels, rooting is not a good idea, if only for the warranty issues.

Bad choice, dude, for a first time rooter.
Read thru XDA. This is the largest group of Android development reviewers on the planet.
My recommendation would be InsertCoin 4.6.1.
The S4X build will be stable in a couple more iterations. The Virtuous Team is working hard on it.

Those are stable and fantastic, too.
Once you work with stable-r (err...) ROMs, your confidence in ROMs will grow, and you can explore the others.

i was staying with ARHD for to long, i would try a nonsense rom first to let you see what your phone is relly capable of. mine can have 300 mb ram free wjen not using my phone and read my sig why i sometimes need the 150 mb ram eating sense to go away
stock htc ics without root would suck anyways. ads and bloat galore
If you guys remember we got the sense 3 update leaked long before we expected it. I wonder if this will be the same for the ICS update. Anyone wonder if we will get a stable rom before the official release
It depends. We need people to leak the ruu

You won't get an official HTC OTA update on a rooted phone with a Custom ROM... and if somehow you do manage to get one while on a Sense ROM, DO NOT flash it... you'll end up in a bootloop.
As far as getting to use it, you'll get it on XDA much before people on stock ROMs (if history is anything to go by...). Hell, I think you might be running Sense 4 before HTC decides to give you Sense 3.6 officially.
Google search for details.

Yeah I think we will get 4.0 before 3.6!
I'm sure the RUU for the One V will be out before our RUU for ICS.
Can't wait

Hello all,
Sorry for this daft question, but haven't been on here for months. Just wanted to know the best or most common used ICS rom you guys are using on your Desire S as I'm well behind.
I have a UK phone and was unlocked using htc dev. I only want to upgrade if all features work. Any reccomendations ?
cheers
S-off it for wider costum rom support, and flash Fallout 5. It's on Sense 4, and pretty stable.
Wrong section, reported.
Please keep questions to q&a section.

I think, one of the most stable and pretty working ICS is Fallout 5.
Used it about few month, all was fine.
Now using Jelly. Not so stable and some functions didnt work correctly, but its faster

well to be honest custom roms arent for everyone, i know its tempting to want to flash a custom rom and see if things are better, but if u r happy with sense then i suggest just use the ruu from htcdev.com to get the official ics update. i have been using it since a couple of weeks and havent had any issues with it other than whatsapp hanging when u try to open link received through whatsapp. other than that its been smotth sailing, better than gingerbread and sense 3
i have used the miui ics rom and didnt like it much other than that i have tried the cyanogenmod 7.2 for desire s but my personal opinion is that custom roms are not always the most stable and if u r not into heavy customization then i would suggest just skip flashing a custom rom and stick with original htc rom.
cm9_nk111
ICE_DS is the one i choose. Stable and fast, no problems with.
But i think it's time to try Fallout.
