My stock 4.0.3 Xoom got update but didn't update - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am new to Xoom but not to Android. My new Xoom came shipped with ICS 4.0.3(IML77), told me there was an update and rebooted afterward, but the About Tablet page in settings still says 4.0.3 IML77 and NOT 4.0.4 IMM76. Now there is no update available. Is this common. I am tempted to just root it and put on EOS, but I thought I'd give it a few days on stock first.....
Always something different.....

Having same issue on stock unrooted US Xoom Wifi. Loaded w/ 4.0.3 from factory, 4.0.4 update downloads and ends up in green bot w/ red ! during install, then eventually reboots to 4.0.3. After that upadate is no longer found??

[Q] NFC killed with 2.3.6 update

The NFC on my phone stopped working (2.3.6 Nexus S, no root, stock recovery) so I fastbooted the ghr78 files to take me back to a previous firmware and nfc worked like a charm, turned on and off with no problem whatsoever.
The system update notification came for 2.3.6 and i installed it, and upon reboot the NFC refuses to turn on (gives me "an error has occured") Any ideas on was is going on?
Ok even weirder. I installed the google wallet fix on xda through clockwork mod, and nfc goes back to working perfectly. I'm really curious now as to what's happening.
I guess they locked it on not 4g nexus, dunno. Mine is the same, working on 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 but not on 2.3.6

Just noticed myself - 2.3.3 - working, 2.3.6 -not working.
I'm waiting for the ICS OTA just to see if NFC works then but I rolled back from 2.3.6 to 2.3.4 and NFC worked great there. On 2.3.6 it just says an error occurred, weirdly enough when I tried out the ICS OTA the NFC worked

I was on CM7 and oxygen 2.3.1 which are 2.3.7 based roms , I wanted to go back to stock because of stability issues so i restored my backup. But NFC did not work,
But it works perfectly with CM7 and oxygen,
Guess is that if you restore apps from a newer android version to a older version then NFC gets screwed up.
So i formatted everything including the sdcard and then flashed 2.3.4 ROM and updated to 2.3.6, Now NFC is working properly.
Hope this helps.
=\ weird I just checked mine and it says the same error message... I'm on 2.3.6 and it used to work... always backed up my phone and I guess it started happening once I started flashing Drew Garens ICS =\

It's a bug. It's going to be fixed in ICS 4.0 - see bottom of thread.

[Q] Cant update 2.3.4 OTA

Hey guys, Ive been a lurker for a while, didnt really need to be a member since I found answers to all of my questions most of the time. But now I must say I am a little stumped. I have a Google Nexus S from WIND Mobile, I believe it is the i9020xxKD, I am currently on the 2.3.4 Gingerbread version, and I have rooted the phone with Mr. Superuser. Everytime I try to update to 2.3.6 OTA, I get the 10 sec before reboot and install, but once it reboots it does not install, instead it freezes with showing a Yield Sign with the android dood inside beside an exclamation mark. I have to remove the battery to get it to restart. Now Im assuming it has to do with me rooting the phone, and thats why it doesnt work. So is it worth to update to 2.3.7, or should I just wait for the Ice Cream thing to come out in December and get that?

I think as long as you have the stock ROM and kernel , Your fine.
I rooted my stock 2.3.4 and installed SU and it updated to 2.3.6 without any problems,
You'll just lose root and recovery.
Im still kind of lost with the stock rom and kernal stuff. How can I install them, I get to the recovery menu but nothing happens when I try to install anything.
bro , just wait for few weeks , and then directly update it to 4.0 ...
-------------------
download a 2.3.6 STOCK ROM , and then flash it via recovery , reboot, you are having 2.3.6 then ..
how to :
go recovery --> wipe --> first and third --> back to main menu --> install from zip --> select zip file you download (which has to be put in SDCARD) --> yes , flash it ---> reboot ---> android 2.3.6
Yea Ill just wait till 4.0 ^_^

[Q] Nexus S (T-Mobile version) ICS upgrade

Got the Nexus S. I checked and the ICS 4.0.4 firmware was ready to be downloaded. 129.4MB.
It downloaded, and it restarting to install, then the android alien, and the yellow exclamation point with the triangle was on the screen. The phone rebooted, but the ICS software didnt' install.
Phone rebooted, and 2.3.4 is still on the phone. It says there are no software updates available now. Whats going on?
Are you rooted or do you have a custom rom installed? Either way, flash to stock 2.3.6 then you should get the 4.0.4 update and it'll install fine.

The phone isn't rooted, and its the standard ROM that came with the phone. The phone have to be on the cellular network? I downloaded the firmware using wifi, with no SIM card in the phone.
It shows the following:
Android 2.3.4
Baseband version: I9020XXKD1
Kernel version:
2.6.35.7-ge382d80 [email protected] #1
Build number: grj22-copyright 2011 bstarrs
If you look around (google) there are places where you can download the ROM and install it manually without having to be rooted.
you can do it manually like the post above suggests or if you want to do it automatically, I believe you have to be on 2.3.6 first, then it should update to 4.0.4 as I don't believe there is a clean update from 2.3.4 to 4.0.4. I have t-mobile and my nexus was on 2.3.4 when I took it out of the box but as soon as I turned it on, it upgraded to 2.3.6, then after a few weeks it upgraded to 4.0.4.
Now my was is longer than the post above but either way I think you'll have to root your phone in order to flash either 2.3.6 or 4.0.4.

Help!: Problems updating Xoom to ICS 4.0.4

Hi,
I just received my Motorola Xoom Wifi (running ICS 4.0.3). I am trying to update it to ICS 4.0.4, but I am having a problem doing so.
After the update is downloaded and the Xoom restarts, I see this message in the top left corner: "Entering Android Recovery Mode Reading ODM fuse:1", then the android is on its back with a red triangle and exclamation mark in it.
What does that mean?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
The red triangle thing is your recovery complaining about the update.zip,
If you are rooted, the ota update will not work. If on stock, hold on to wait for another ota to pop up and install. If your boot loader is unlocked, it might be of a reason... share more details, logs if possible..

I have the same problem as stated above.
My XOOM was unlocked and rooted with a stock Honeycomb ROM.
My son accepted the ICS update when offered yesterday which downloaded OK.
The XOOM is now in a loop. If I reboot using Vol+ and Power it boots into the old ROM, then reboots and tries to install the update but fails with the 'Triangle/Exclamation mark' symbol. I can't get out of this.
I presume this is because it was rooted as stated above, but what do I do now.
Do I have to remove Rooting? If so, how?
Can I remove the update package? How?
All help appreciated.
I had the same problem when I tried to update my rooted Xoom. Fixed by rebooting the Xoom (vol up + power), then going into CWM to clear the wiping both cache and dalvik cache. This stopped the loop and everything is back to normal.
I'm thinking whether to forget the UK update and GEDify instead and go to JB.
Problem Solved
Thanks for responding!
It's a brand new, unrooted Xoom (I believe). I solved the problem by unlocking the bootloader and flashing the Stock Honeycomb Rom (US GED Firmware). I'm currently running Jelly-bean
The instructions for unlocking the bootloader and flashing the stock rom, can be found by googling: GEDify your non-US WiFi Xoom – For n00bs

Same here. Decided to GEDify since I have no idea when UK will get JB.

[Q] How do I get unstuck from AT&T screen running ICS

Hey all, I recently rooted my atrix 2 about 3 days ago then decided I wanted to run ICS so I went back to 2.3.5 then OTA'd to 2.3.6 and got my phone on ICS following Jim's guide. Everything went fine and I was running ICS fine until I downloaded ROMtoolbox and tried to change my font to the DROID font. the screen flashed and everything went to chinese and then my phone reboot itself but now it keepts getting stuck on the white AT&T screen, I've tried running through recovery and rebooting but everytime it just freezes on that screen.
Nevermind guys I got it all back up and working by just reinstalling ICS from recovery menu.

Can you get into bootmenu? If yes, do you have an ICS based backup?
If you don't have a backup or bootmenu the only thing you can really do is fkz back to GB 2.3.5 and re-update...
And for future reference... don't use rom toolbox.. it usually doesn't end well... as you might have figured out.
PEOPLE! Stop goofing around with things using ROM Toolbox, it does nothing for your phone other than cause headaches. I've soft bricked using it, others are having similar problems. It's not worth the hassle. Seriously...

Sent from my MB865 on rooted ICS leak
so it would be better to have the individual apps themselves instead of toolbox or stay away from those apps in general? also is it still possible to do the wifi tethering with the ICS leak?
