Got the Nexus S. I checked and the ICS 4.0.4 firmware was ready to be downloaded. 129.4MB.
It downloaded, and it restarting to install, then the android alien, and the yellow exclamation point with the triangle was on the screen. The phone rebooted, but the ICS software didnt' install.
Phone rebooted, and 2.3.4 is still on the phone. It says there are no software updates available now. Whats going on?
Are you rooted or do you have a custom rom installed? Either way, flash to stock 2.3.6 then you should get the 4.0.4 update and it'll install fine.

The phone isn't rooted, and its the standard ROM that came with the phone. The phone have to be on the cellular network? I downloaded the firmware using wifi, with no SIM card in the phone.
It shows the following:
Android 2.3.4
Baseband version: I9020XXKD1
Kernel version:
2.6.35.7-ge382d80 [email protected] #1
Build number: grj22-copyright 2011 bstarrs
If you look around (google) there are places where you can download the ROM and install it manually without having to be rooted.
you can do it manually like the post above suggests or if you want to do it automatically, I believe you have to be on 2.3.6 first, then it should update to 4.0.4 as I don't believe there is a clean update from 2.3.4 to 4.0.4. I have t-mobile and my nexus was on 2.3.4 when I took it out of the box but as soon as I turned it on, it upgraded to 2.3.6, then after a few weeks it upgraded to 4.0.4.
Now my was is longer than the post above but either way I think you'll have to root your phone in order to flash either 2.3.6 or 4.0.4.

Folks, I keep getting annoying message on my Samsung Droid Charge, telling me to upgrade my system.
I have it rooted with Gummy and it runs very well for what I use it for.
my f/w version is 2.2.1
baseband version is i510.06 v.ee4
kernel is 2.6.32.9
Do I really need to update? also, is there any way to turn that forced VZ update to off?
if I have no choice and must update, I do need to revert to stock f/w, right? then re-install Gummy back. So what's the point in updating?
why not update to a better version ? I would backup my current rom and test the update

With some OTA updates it is possible to lose root. It happened to alot of people with updated from froyo to gingerbread, and at the time there was no root for gingerbread...so they were stuck.
Also, any update is just going to be to the stock rom. If you are rooted and using custom roms, and OTA is pointless.
Does anyone know of a ROM that is basically the stock ICS 4.0.3 OTA update for Nexus S i9020T, but modified to be compatible with the Nexus S i9020A (the AT&T compatible one), gets 3G data speeds on AT&T, and is flashable through clockworkmod?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399956
But that has several modifications to stock, such as root, and custom launchers, and flashing a radio is still required. Is there any Rom that is simply stock ICS adapted for the i9020a?
i just updated my nexus s 19020a with att to 4.0.4, the flashed the zip with the stock boatloader its working great so far, but i think you have to be in 2.3.6 to flash 4.0.4
http://androidforums.com/nexus-s/465048-official-ics-4-0-x-discussion-links-thread.html
i got some screen shots
Upgraded to 4.04 on I9020a
I actually just made an account just to be able to post.
I was surprised how easy it was to do the upgrade (i.e., no need to download any other extra files to get it to work). In an hour, I upgraded from stock 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 and then downloaded the 4.04 OTA file, copied it onto the phone, install, and it just worked! Preserved all my settings and did not have to reinstall anything.
While the eye candy is nice-- the phone somehow does not feel as snappy as it used to be.
I am new to Xoom but not to Android. My new Xoom came shipped with ICS 4.0.3(IML77), told me there was an update and rebooted afterward, but the About Tablet page in settings still says 4.0.3 IML77 and NOT 4.0.4 IMM76. Now there is no update available. Is this common. I am tempted to just root it and put on EOS, but I thought I'd give it a few days on stock first.....
Always something different.....
Having same issue on stock unrooted US Xoom Wifi. Loaded w/ 4.0.3 from factory, 4.0.4 update downloads and ends up in green bot w/ red ! during install, then eventually reboots to 4.0.3. After that upadate is no longer found??

I had previously ran some custom ROMs (Cyanogen, etc) on my G2x, but this past year I had gone back to the stock 2.3.4 ROM. I did leave my phone rooted.
Recently I had decided to give my phone to someone else and wanted to do a factory reset to get rid of my info.
I followed the steps on the T-Mobile support site.
I held down on the volume while turning it on.
After a second I got the "S/W Upgrade" screen.
I left my phone alone for a while, but the screen never went away. After unhooking it my phone seemed bricked.
I followed the following guide to fix it and it restored my phone to 2.3.3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644
The phone seemed to work fine, but all of a sudden I started hearing clicking.
I decided to try to update to 2.3.4, but my phone is a refurbished phone and won't do the OTA update.
I downloaded the LG driver and tool to try to update, but it said my phone already had the latest update. It detects my software version as V21Y when it's actually V21e.
Here is more of my phone info.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Flash this in CWM to fix the audio: http://www.mediafire.com/?8spjkaknyg5bd30
You have the 2.3.3 software installed which doesn't have the audio files working for the baseband that comes with the 2.3.4 update

Hey. Thanks for the reply.
Is there a way just to flash a working 2.3.4 rom?
Also, when I install this fix, do I just keep the files zipped and keep it at the root of my sd card when I run CWM?
I've been following step-by-steps so my grasp of the flashing process is tenuous at best.
Yes just pick select zip from external sd and flash away.
Helo, I have a tablet satellite Model: AM728, did an update with the file nagra9 and even now is a MID, android 2.3.5, kernel 2635.7, renasas_emev-eng 2.3.5. Gingerbread, and now I can not get back ago, and I can not make any changes, it will not appear on the upgrade option, is to take that and put another rom?
would any rom that I can put straight to install at startup?
Thank you.
