So heres the deal, Im on att and already upgraded so I will have to buy either outright, overall I'd say the Atrix bests the Arc in specs but the design of the Arc is fantastic imo and it has a better screen and im gonna assume the camera will be better, im just not sure though, also theres the question of release date and price, anyone have any ideas when these phones will come and how much on eBay? Also do you think that the Arc will make it to att or at least a 3g compatible version at launch? I know people are gonna say avoid SE but I like them and I liked the X10, only thing that annoyed me was no MT.
Anyway what do you guys think? I really need a new phone as I am using a 3GS after my captivate broke, its not bad but I really miss Android.
Well you like Android so I'm not gonna go into the pros/cons of the OS. Just these two devices.
Xperia Arc (Should be out by April, most likely WON'T support AT&T 3G)
Pros:
-Good quality camera
-Thin and sleek
-4" Screen (not too big, not too small)
-Great screen BUT there's only a major difference when playing videos or looking at photos. Besides that, it's just a normal but good quality LCD.
-Gingerbread 2.3
Cons:
-Sony Ericsson put a skin on it
-Sony Ericsson has a spotty history with updates (I'm sure you know that being a X10 owner).
-Probably just as expensive as the Atrix thanks to the "Sony tax".
Motorola Atrix (Should be out by March, launching on AT&T)
Pros:
-Tegra 2 = total beast and the fastest thing out there.
-4" Screen (not too big, not too small)
-Screen resolution of 540x960 (qHD) -- the highest res screen of any Android device.
-Motorola is better than most to provide software updates.
-Crazy WebTop app and Laptop 'Dock'
-1930mah battery -- largest of any Android device.
-HSPA+ so you get 4G-like speeds.
-Front-facing camera
Cons:
-Motorola's abortion of a skin is on there.
-Froyo 2.2 and no idea of when upgrade will come.
-WebTop app looks cool, but could still suck.
-Despite large battery, Tegra 2 is under the hood and that could suck some battery really quickly.
Do you like MotoBLUR or whateverskinSonyEriccsonhasontheirGingerbread? I personally think MotoBLUR is complete crap and the fact that AT&T is not known for updating their phones rather quickly might be a roadblock. Than there is the locked bootloader if you don't plan on doing much with custom roms.
In all seriousness, there is no way in hell that the Atrix will have a better camera than the Arc, mainly because Cybershot cameras usually take phenomenal photos (tested with two Cybershots) and the Arc kind of has the censor from the Cybershots. The Arc might be the best camera orientated Android phone despite the lack of 1080p video recording. Motorola isn't really known for having good cameras, but they are known for using gorilla glass on most of their phones, so I am assuming the Atrix has that.
Depends on your preference really. I would personally go with the Arc and hope that SE is true to their word about updating their phones.
Atrix will come by March 1st.
Arc will come April.
Most unlocked phones have AT&T bands, so I wouldn't expect the Arc to be any different.
I would definitely go for the Atrix. Im on ATT too but I upgraded last june to the captivate so I will be waiting as well.
However, I would definitely get the atrix because of the specs and docking capability.
Well im leaning towards the arc as I like SE and imo they make the best looking phones, and that silver one is...wow! Only thing I need a confirmation is price, date and most important if it will have 3g bands, im willing to wait but not till the mddle if the year either lol
my question as well...arc or atrix?
I would go with Sony, mainky because i own X8 aswell and it proved to be a quite nice phone for the price range it has.
Yea, updates are Sony's biggest con, but besides that i had no real problems with it All their devices i had run pretty nice and smooth
Defiantly arc the looks of it are awesome plus it'll have 3 rd gen snap dragon soc won't be as powerful as atrix but the is like no apps that really use dual core but wait and see as for me battery life is huge

It's funny how peoples' tastes differ. I think SE phones look horrible, especially the Arc. Also, in a few months time phones with single-core processors will seem so out-of-date.
Motorola Atrix for me.

lol it is funny, I love Sony's phones, they always look different from the competition as well instead of an iphone wannabe, Atrix looks so....common.
Wait and watch the forums on XDA see which phone gets rooted first/more easily and see which phone is more easily modded.
I had the X10 and while it's a great phone the lack of support from SE really annoyed me and the fact that they locked that phone down like crazy was even more frustrating.
True, but as every phone out there, X10 will get unlocked properly sooner or later. Wasn't much of a factor here when i was buying my Xperia X8

Not true, I had a Motorola Milestone (European version of the Droid) and that never was properly unlocked-- still a great phone for it's time through, despite its weaknesses.
Anyways, to actually answer the question, the Atrix is a beast. 16gb internal storage is fantastic. Super fast processor. Both Sony and Motorola have pretty crappy track records when it comes to customer support, so don't expect much from either company on that front. I'd go with the Atrix.
Atrix is way better. I dont trust sony phones....

I can talk about SE Arc 'cause I personally use this device atm
I'm really satisfied for its functions, pros:
a) weight, it's so light
b) good media section (camera, music player...just radio is pretty poor in tuning)
c) pack (two usb cables, one for charging, the other for car charging - car charger included - screen protection - nice headphones)
d) display (wide enough and natural colors)
e) design (IMHO, the best form factor atm)
i've seen both phones a prefer the dual core atrix as it is much quicker (atleast in my experience)
go with your feeling, pick up you like
These two phones completely died off after CES.
Yes, stay for the first will be root
Hi,
I've got big troubles to replace greenish screen at my S2, so I decided to sell it, also my old SGS will be sold. And I want something new, with S2 speed, but honestly I don't know what to buy... I don't wanna wait for S3.
My favs:
- Xperia S - great design, screen (I know about yellowish screen at some models, but I will check it before buy) and performance. No ICS for now, and weak support (custom roms etc)
- One S - I don't know... I little bit tune up Sensation, price not revelant to performacne
- One X - love design of white one, great CPU, but quite laggy. And it's quite big, I really don't know about it...
For now, Xperia S is the winner, but I'm still thinking about One X... Maybe is big, quite laggy, but I think I can live with that size and I hope that in matter of days some devs will cook great non laggy rom.
Any advice? What would do you buy from those three, or maybe something else? I want android, no apple, no WP
Cheers
in my point of view, i prefer Xperia S
GNEX FTW
Ok, I ask on other forums and read about those three and for now I think I will decide to One X. But first I must take it into hands, I'm not quite sure about size... Second choice is Xperia S
Sony Ericsson is weak with smartphones (except X10) Get a HTC
S2 is a sure value
SGS II
I think S2 is the best choice.

I will chose s2 again, because i love this phone and it is so good and as you say it is fast. One X i realy good phone, but I would rather wait s3 and then see what to buy. Happy shopping
I would say HTC one S. Cheaper and better sized than one X, still provide decent power.
Closed, please post in proper section
Hello! first of all I know there is tons of threads and articles about HOX vs GS3, I'm not here to debate which one is the best phone ever I know they are both awesome I just need help to know which one is the best for me and you can help me by giving me your personal opinion on what will follow.
I made this thread because while I think I'd be really happy with either GS3 or One X I'm not throwing 600-700$ away before I'm sure which to choose and I wont regret my purchase or be thinking "I should have bought the other one", I'll keep this phone for at least 2 years and I wanna know which fits the best for me (and my needs).
Please don't come here to comment: "Samsung suck" or "HTC suck" "look at benchmarks" or other stupid trolling comments like that, if you need to say the main concurrent of your phone sucks to convince yourself your phone is good, I think you have a problem.
Now I'll just tell how what kind of phone I'll need, I'll be using it mainly for web browsing over 3G, I'll also use it to watch animes (with subs), youtube videos and maybe streams, MP3 and games (probably more emulators than crappy gameloft games with a bluetooth gamepad because I just hate to play games with virtual buttons on screen...), I need decent battery life (ideally 5-6h on screen time for web browsing watching video and some gaming)
Now I need your opinion on the pros and cons list I made for both devices (some of them are personal I'm not saying sense is better than touchwiz I'm just saying I prefer it, as for the design it's my personal opinion):
(if you see "(?)" it means I'm not sure about that (like something I read on forums but with no source, could be true but not sure about it))
Please give your opinion about the phone you own not about what you heard or read somewhere (I'm talking about people *****ing about the other phone while they haven't even tested it), I want honest feedback, if you own or owned both phones I'd like to know why you kept one instead of the other
I'll post this on both forums (HTC and Samsung) to see feedback from both GS3 and One X users.
HTC one X:
Pros:
-Design
-Sense 4.0 (really love the UI of sense)
-Screen
-Perfs
-HTC updates frequently (?)
-Battery life idle
-Text adapting in web browser when zooming in
-Playstation mobile (?)
-Tegra games (?)
Cons:
-Not optimized (Tegra3 driver still running on gingerbread kernel not ICS, sense using a lot of ram and sometimes laggy (?) may change with updates)
-Multitasking (refresh everytime you switch from an app to another, really annoying when in the middle of a webpage or a youtube video but fixable with script and custom roms)
-Heats a lot when gaming
-1080p recording @ 20ish FPS (fixable with updates?)
-Hard to root (and voids warranty...)
-No USB OTG (yet, may come with updates)
-No S-OFF (yet)
Neutral:
-Battery life (may get better with updates can also get better with custom roms / kernels and tweaking)
-Sense laggy sometimes (?)
-Audio
-No SD card
-Cannot replace battery (in case the battery dies you just have to buy another one?...)
Hopes:
-Nvidia to release soon the ICS kernel update for Tegra3 that should boost perfs and also gives the One X better battery life
-OTG USB update cause since One X don't have micro SD support with this update the phone would support USB flashdrives etc... So a must in my opinion
-Update to fix sense glitch and general performance to use less ram etc...
-S-OFF
Fears:
-I'v read something about HTC not doing really well lately, I'm afraid this could affect updates for the One X
-I'm also afraid that as soon as they release a new phone they just drop the one X
-Also about the Tegra3 drivers for ICS kernel Nvidia could release it in a month as they could release it in a year... Also people are saying it will improve the perfs and the battery life but maybe it will change nothing...
Samsung GS3:
Pros:
-Perfs
-Multitasking
-Battery life
-Audio
-Already optimized
-Doesn't heat even when gaming (?)
-SD card
-OTG USB
-Will have a bigger community, more roms etc... (?)
-Easy to root
-1080p recording @ 30 FPS
-Better blacks (screen)
-You can replace the battery
Cons:
-Touchwiz
-Slow and rare Samsung updates (?)
-Battery life idle
Neutral:
-Design
-Screen
-Saturated colors (screen)
-S-voice and others "features" are nothing but gimmicks
Hopes:
-Sense 4.0 being ported to GS3 (without multitasking issues and optimised)
-I hope Samsung will do frequent updates for the device to fix bugs and keep the phone updated.
Fears:
-One of my bigest fear is HTC to fix the One X right after I buy the GS3...
-As for the One X I fear Samsung to not update the phone or drop it as soon as they release a new device...
Thanks for your time and sorry for my english.
In my personal opinion, based on your needs, the One X should be fine for the most part. The biggest concern will be the screen on time. I personally have only managed 4ish hours screen on time.
But the way I worked around it is with an external battery pack which I just use to top up when I'm not using the phone (or even when I am).
Sounds as if you have already made your mind up you just don't know it yet by the looks of your post, go with Samsung!
Sent from my HTC One X
Very nice opening of a thread but I think it's irrelevant.
People here have a HTC One X because it's HTC One X General section.
So how can you have a clear opinion from people with a HTC One X who don't have the other device you mention?
Maybe you better post this question in the general section of XDA?
As this is HTC One X section and has nothing todo with that other machine.
Besides that, soooooo... many tried to open a thread like this before you and all these threads end up in a fight.
So my advise is, if you like to know about opinions of both phones read about both phones in several forums but I think it's not very smart to open an anoying thread like this.
Btw, that's my opinion.
The only way you'll ever know is if you try both yourself. Buy sim-free devices from a reputable company with a good return policy and have fun making up your mind
From what i read, you need the s3 cuz you want many screen on time. You can bring extra battery and pop it in.
From what i think, you are right bout updates. Samsung tend to leave their prev flagships phone with late updates and when they do, half finished work that needs lots of updates to fix it. HTC updates them, but tries as perfectly as possible. N HTC has longer software update support too.

My personal opinion is that I think the HTC One X is a better device overall than the SGS3, but obviously its very close and both have pros and cons. Obviously most people in this forum will prefer the One X. And I've been a Samsung owner for my last two phones (SGS, Infuse), and was anxiously awaiting the SGS3 announcement thinking I was going to get one. It was announced, I wasn't that impressed, I got the HTC One X instead (cheaper too, at least off contract) and I'm happy that I did.
One thing to note though, I see you put TouchWiz on the cons for SGS3, but I'd probably say TouchWiz on the SGS3 is better than Sense 4. Sense 4 is nice, and I have no problem with it, but I've been running SGS3 builds on my Infuse and I like it more.
The SGS3 is definitely more friendly for custom ROMs being that it's bootloader is already unlocked, however, I don't doubt the development community's ability to do just fine with the HOX. If it was a smaller phone, that would be one thing, but this is an international flagship. There are a lot of people working on it, just like the SGS3. I'm not too worried about customization abilities.
But hey, go find them both, hold them both, and try using them both. Just pick what you like more. Some things are more important to one person than another.
Not sure if firmware upgrades will make htc's one x battery to last longer, unless that somehow increases the number of cells or the capacity of the battery.
As for one x pros, people always forget one of the newest improvements it has camera-wise: you can take pictures while recording video. Not sure if the gs3 has the "selective burst mode" that the one x has.
For me, putting back touch wiz and buttons was a step back for the gs3. A step forward was putting a bigger battery.
If speed is what you want, why not go for the one s?

Oh yeah i heard One S has goddamn better battery life than One X due to the screen and dual core.

That's logical isn't, I mean duo or quad core?
And about battery live, I think besides updates on the OS you can improve the performance with a radio for your area as well. About the other things, a bad choise of apps can drain your battery really fast as well so I'm sure if HTC updates the Core or improves applications it can improve battery. Not that battery is so bad with HTC One X, I'm pretty satisfied, but you can't compair the device with a single or dual core I think, that's not fair to my opinion. To my opinion HTC One X has a much better design as the Samsung Galaxy SIII, much more elegant and stylish. Not such a flat squared boring design as the SIII. And about the service of HTC, to my opinion it rocks as well, in all the 8 years I use HTC devices I had only once a issue with a device, they picked up and returned it fixed in 3 days.
I think this is all important to the Op to my opinion as he has to make a decission.

I must agree with Leo, one thing has made me in love with HTC is it´s superior design and build quality over any other existent brand, so even if GSIII had better specs I rather took One X
S3..!!!!!!!
Looking at the rapid growth of the android phones and the huge success of Samsung over their Galaxy series and also a large number of custom roms available and firmware updates too, I would tell samsung galaxy S3 is the one and the best till date..

Mhm, personally people have their own opinions depends what you would want to keep.
Sg3 battery life is great with a battery that it has already! As far as updates from Samsung, they seem to roll out updates about biweekly.
Haven't yet tried a game that it could not handle.

Are two excellent devices, appearance, many features and utilities, is purely a matter of personal taste. See the pros, contra and finally what fits your personality.
I have a question. For me One is the most beautiful Android smartphone ever released. Dunno why but that's true. I'm tired of those similar Xperia phones or ovoid Samsungs, they are ugly (really no offence that's just my opinion) However One it's quite too expensive and quite too big for me so I was happy when I dicovered One Mini. I've read some reviews already and I noticed people mostly complaining about low RAM or that One Mini should be smaller One with the same specs. Now I'm entering One Mini section on XDA and what I see. Topics about how this phone is already dead or why it isn't so awesome like One... Not much topics of new roms, mods (or maybe it's just a matter of time, I hope so) It saddens me because I wanted to buy it new as my first, serious, recently released smartphone... Now I have an old Xperia PLAY so you know... So my question is: Is this phone really that bad? I suppose there will be a big difference between One mini and my old phone but I would feel bad knowing that I could choose better phone in that price... you know it's not a small price. Nexus 4? I heard it's nice, it has got many updates, but it is limited (?) naked without for example awesome sense 5.0 and other multimedia things... Are there any One mini user on this forum? Can you use Facebook, listen to music, browse Internet at the same time? And then play Asphalt for example without having forced to go into killing other apps? Thank you for your answer

Someone just asked a similar question which I replied to reguarding the development issue, you can read it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499138
It's a beautiful phone. I think they should have given it 2GB of memory, but it isn't too big of a deal, it's just as fast as any Android phone with 1GB of memory. I don't have Asphalt, but I can run Pandora, Facebook, Google Play, Robot Unicorn Attack 2, and Chrome with 1 tab open fine. If I open more than 1 tab then Robot Unicorn Attack 2 will reload when I switch back to it. I also have avast! Free Mobile Security, Smart Wifi Toggler, No-Frills CPU Control, and the Contacts and Messages apps running in the background. For a 1GB phone it multitasks just fine, but it won't multitask as well as a phone with 2GB (obviously).
Are you choosing the HTC One Mini for the size or the price? Reason I ask is because the difference in size between the One Mini and the Nexus 4.
Actually I'm looking for a smaller phone, I noticed that Nexus 4 has bigger screen but at the same time it's cheaper so I thought about it too. But on the other side One mini is smaller, more handy and very good-looking and I will buy it instead of Nexus 4 probably So in the next days I will be more active in this section

hello ma_ko
you dont do anything wrong with buying this phone. i have my MINI 3 months now and i cant tell anything really negative.
i like this long format of the display. its nearly 16:9 format widescreen but not full. i think its 16:10 or something like that.
the phone i a bit long yes, unneccesarily. they could do it a bit shorter, so you could handle better with one hand.
but overall i like my phone very much.
It is not slow, i can hear music and surf beside. this is no problem. you dont need to worry about the perfomance .
I think 1gb ram is more than enough, i never had problems..
You are right. There are no custom roms yet, but they WILL come in a few weeks i think, at least CM 4.3 Nightlies

It's a 16:9 screen (1280x780). It's a great phone, you'll love it. Whether it's the best for you is up to you.
Another phone you might want to look at is the Moto X. It has a 4.7" 720p screen, but it's almost the same physical size as the HTC One Mini. The Nexus 5 debuts on the 31st, but that'll have a 5 inch screen so it'll be as big as the Galaxy S4.

The previous model of One Mini is One S from last year. The problem is One Mini isn't really a major upgrade to One S. In the end, most guys there on One S board(I would say almost all actually) decided to keep their One S. They also have a leaked official 4.2.2 Sense 5.0 from HTC, OS upgrade isn't a problem to them.
Clearly, it's not One Mini fault but fuxking stupid HTC Marketing to force people stay with old model. You don't have an One S, you are safe to get One Mini.
I love my one mini <3
I had a Huawei G300 prior to it and I wonder how I even used the thing! The HTC One Mini is so much faster and snappier, the speakers give amazing sound, it makes so much more sense to have stereo and to have the speakers at the front! I don't know but I think the design of it makes videos look better on it, when I watch YouTube videos for example, it's just really nice. xD
I put a clear silicon case on it so now it looks like the edges of the phone are made of glass (well to me at least), and I've changed the theme using the Themer Beta app
I took some pictures of it but it won't let me post them because I haven't got enough posts.. .-.
Anyway, I don't know, if you haven't decided on a phone yet, I think you'll be impressed by it. Also the camera is awesome.
The other kinds of phone designs, ovoids like you said look reaaaally outdated to me now.. I don't think I could go back to something like that!
The only thing I'd say is annoying about it is that it doesn't have a menu button, so you have to go from the top notification bar to go into the settings but I got used to it pretty quickly. Also I've heard that the plastic cracked for some people but that hasn't happened to me. Maybe because I had the case from the day I got it and I keep it in my bag so I guess it's safer..?

Hi
just about to buy this phone for my GF. Only worry is the often mentioned sluggishness in the reviews. is is that bad ? any android version doing better at that ? or do you need to tune it ?
she had sk17i so far (until it broke) and it was good enough, similar specs I think.
Cheers
Don't buy it if you still can - there are much more better phones
J hardware was already crap when it came out and faulty models are the reasons why it's considered as slow device.
As of real amount of sluggishness it depends from phone to phone - mine works smoothly at any rom.
You can do many things if it's slow - factory reset, greenify, overlocking, various tweaks and mods, trying cm10

Allright, thanks for opinion, the one i was about to buy - sbody got it earlier
So it depends on the given version ? We have low budget so sk15i / sk17i was some checked good one in that priced range and for a bigger screen alternative thats the one I found. I have to mention though that I take sar ratings into consideration as well (whatever conttroversy may be around it). If you have any suggestion let me know
Tell your budget here, and people here will find something good.
If you could find a galaxy s2 that would be a soild choice, maybe lg l9 would be possible, maybe
As for something similiar - xperia neo v or xperia lww

She tends to break things so not to waste money its about ~50-70eur used phone locally in poland.
criteria: not too large ~4 inch, battery more likely to last 2 days then one with occassional wifi/internet, sar ratings say below 1
Looks like HTC incredible S could be good ?
not sure about windows phone but Lumias like 610 or 710 are in budget range too
That's not too much.
Htc incredible s is an alright phone. Check out galaxy s,htc desire s, galaxy ace 2 if you want to.
If she had an android before, she probably wouldn't like a windows phone - lack of apps, features etc.

Thanks for that! I actually missed Desire S and Ace 2 in my search. galaxy s has no flash and is quite old. Also xperia arc s seems good too but is quite tall and has not front camera.
I forgot to mention that durability (like after drops) in opinions matters and those are good for Desire S, also it does some better videos as seen on that tool:

Looks like we'll go for that one although display's performing in sunlight has mixed opinions. This actually does also matter for her when trying to make/check a picture on sunny vacation day!
Damn ..there's so many phones and still finding an ok one with few criteria is quite tough !
Xperia M is good for a low-mid range phone
Or maybe you can buy Zenfone 5 if you want

Actually just discovered about GAlaxy S Advance that has some better guts, 4" and amoled display that shouldnt be a problem in sunlight. Did find some offers within price range for that. However the videos made by it are noticably worse than Desire S... choice still difficult lol
Xperia M, well also in price range and seems better hardware too but from what I read suffers from both sunlight problem and poor camera
Decisions, decisions
I recommend that you chose three or more models and let her choose the one she likes the most.
