Hi,
I've got big troubles to replace greenish screen at my S2, so I decided to sell it, also my old SGS will be sold. And I want something new, with S2 speed, but honestly I don't know what to buy... I don't wanna wait for S3.
My favs:
- Xperia S - great design, screen (I know about yellowish screen at some models, but I will check it before buy) and performance. No ICS for now, and weak support (custom roms etc)
- One S - I don't know... I little bit tune up Sensation, price not revelant to performacne
- One X - love design of white one, great CPU, but quite laggy. And it's quite big, I really don't know about it...
For now, Xperia S is the winner, but I'm still thinking about One X... Maybe is big, quite laggy, but I think I can live with that size and I hope that in matter of days some devs will cook great non laggy rom.
Any advice? What would do you buy from those three, or maybe something else? I want android, no apple, no WP
Cheers
in my point of view, i prefer Xperia S
GNEX FTW
Ok, I ask on other forums and read about those three and for now I think I will decide to One X. But first I must take it into hands, I'm not quite sure about size... Second choice is Xperia S
Sony Ericsson is weak with smartphones (except X10) Get a HTC
S2 is a sure value
SGS II
I think S2 is the best choice.

I will chose s2 again, because i love this phone and it is so good and as you say it is fast. One X i realy good phone, but I would rather wait s3 and then see what to buy. Happy shopping
I would say HTC one S. Cheaper and better sized than one X, still provide decent power.

So heres the deal, Im on att and already upgraded so I will have to buy either outright, overall I'd say the Atrix bests the Arc in specs but the design of the Arc is fantastic imo and it has a better screen and im gonna assume the camera will be better, im just not sure though, also theres the question of release date and price, anyone have any ideas when these phones will come and how much on eBay? Also do you think that the Arc will make it to att or at least a 3g compatible version at launch? I know people are gonna say avoid SE but I like them and I liked the X10, only thing that annoyed me was no MT.
Anyway what do you guys think? I really need a new phone as I am using a 3GS after my captivate broke, its not bad but I really miss Android.
Well you like Android so I'm not gonna go into the pros/cons of the OS. Just these two devices.
Xperia Arc (Should be out by April, most likely WON'T support AT&T 3G)
Pros:
-Good quality camera
-Thin and sleek
-4" Screen (not too big, not too small)
-Great screen BUT there's only a major difference when playing videos or looking at photos. Besides that, it's just a normal but good quality LCD.
-Gingerbread 2.3
Cons:
-Sony Ericsson put a skin on it
-Sony Ericsson has a spotty history with updates (I'm sure you know that being a X10 owner).
-Probably just as expensive as the Atrix thanks to the "Sony tax".
Motorola Atrix (Should be out by March, launching on AT&T)
Pros:
-Tegra 2 = total beast and the fastest thing out there.
-4" Screen (not too big, not too small)
-Screen resolution of 540x960 (qHD) -- the highest res screen of any Android device.
-Motorola is better than most to provide software updates.
-Crazy WebTop app and Laptop 'Dock'
-1930mah battery -- largest of any Android device.
-HSPA+ so you get 4G-like speeds.
-Front-facing camera
Cons:
-Motorola's abortion of a skin is on there.
-Froyo 2.2 and no idea of when upgrade will come.
-WebTop app looks cool, but could still suck.
-Despite large battery, Tegra 2 is under the hood and that could suck some battery really quickly.
Do you like MotoBLUR or whateverskinSonyEriccsonhasontheirGingerbread? I personally think MotoBLUR is complete crap and the fact that AT&T is not known for updating their phones rather quickly might be a roadblock. Than there is the locked bootloader if you don't plan on doing much with custom roms.
In all seriousness, there is no way in hell that the Atrix will have a better camera than the Arc, mainly because Cybershot cameras usually take phenomenal photos (tested with two Cybershots) and the Arc kind of has the censor from the Cybershots. The Arc might be the best camera orientated Android phone despite the lack of 1080p video recording. Motorola isn't really known for having good cameras, but they are known for using gorilla glass on most of their phones, so I am assuming the Atrix has that.
Depends on your preference really. I would personally go with the Arc and hope that SE is true to their word about updating their phones.
Atrix will come by March 1st.
Arc will come April.
Most unlocked phones have AT&T bands, so I wouldn't expect the Arc to be any different.
I would definitely go for the Atrix. Im on ATT too but I upgraded last june to the captivate so I will be waiting as well.
However, I would definitely get the atrix because of the specs and docking capability.
Well im leaning towards the arc as I like SE and imo they make the best looking phones, and that silver one is...wow! Only thing I need a confirmation is price, date and most important if it will have 3g bands, im willing to wait but not till the mddle if the year either lol
my question as well...arc or atrix?
I would go with Sony, mainky because i own X8 aswell and it proved to be a quite nice phone for the price range it has.
Yea, updates are Sony's biggest con, but besides that i had no real problems with it All their devices i had run pretty nice and smooth
Defiantly arc the looks of it are awesome plus it'll have 3 rd gen snap dragon soc won't be as powerful as atrix but the is like no apps that really use dual core but wait and see as for me battery life is huge

It's funny how peoples' tastes differ. I think SE phones look horrible, especially the Arc. Also, in a few months time phones with single-core processors will seem so out-of-date.
Motorola Atrix for me.

lol it is funny, I love Sony's phones, they always look different from the competition as well instead of an iphone wannabe, Atrix looks so....common.
Wait and watch the forums on XDA see which phone gets rooted first/more easily and see which phone is more easily modded.
I had the X10 and while it's a great phone the lack of support from SE really annoyed me and the fact that they locked that phone down like crazy was even more frustrating.
True, but as every phone out there, X10 will get unlocked properly sooner or later. Wasn't much of a factor here when i was buying my Xperia X8

Not true, I had a Motorola Milestone (European version of the Droid) and that never was properly unlocked-- still a great phone for it's time through, despite its weaknesses.
Anyways, to actually answer the question, the Atrix is a beast. 16gb internal storage is fantastic. Super fast processor. Both Sony and Motorola have pretty crappy track records when it comes to customer support, so don't expect much from either company on that front. I'd go with the Atrix.
Atrix is way better. I dont trust sony phones....

I can talk about SE Arc 'cause I personally use this device atm
I'm really satisfied for its functions, pros:
a) weight, it's so light
b) good media section (camera, music player...just radio is pretty poor in tuning)
c) pack (two usb cables, one for charging, the other for car charging - car charger included - screen protection - nice headphones)
d) display (wide enough and natural colors)
e) design (IMHO, the best form factor atm)
i've seen both phones a prefer the dual core atrix as it is much quicker (atleast in my experience)
go with your feeling, pick up you like
These two phones completely died off after CES.
Yes, stay for the first will be root
Hi there.
I want to buy a new phone and i wonder which one of this? - Sony Xperia S or Samsung Galaxy S 2.
According to this - http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_s_vs_samsung_galaxy_s_ii-review-734.php both phones are awesome and i really wonder which one to buy?
What would you say about that?
10x for your help in advance
I'd say - buy Galaxy. It's superior to the Xperia S with SuperAMOLED+ and removable battery (yes, you can't remove Xperia S' battery).

I don't like AMOLED. From the few I used, I liked Arc screen more than SII one. Both hardware are quite the same, but Xperia S wins in a few things, such as design, better camera (not much, but for me it wins), and ICS coming (not so soon, but Timescape UI looks way better than TouchWiz UI).
Well, I would go on XS, but in the final is up to you.

When phone freeze, there is a key combo (Power button + vol down, if I remember right). And for the Micro SIM, if your carries sells iPhones, just go there and ask to they to exchange your SIM for one just like the iPhone ones.

AMOLED is better in power consumption, design is of personal preference, camera is better, but - you answered this one already - not by much, and ICS is already out officially for GS2.
besides - screw TouchWiz and screw Timescape too, that's what third party launchers are made for.
AMOLED only has better power consumption when its displaying mostly black stuff, because the individual pixels are turned off...on a white screen, it consumes alot more power than a normal LCD....i really really LOVE the black levels and contrast on the S2, but anything and everything you view on it will look FAKE. The color reproduction is much more accurate on the xperia whereas s2 is very over saturated...its up to u to pick which one to go for, but i'd take the xperia over the s2 but some say im a Sony fanboy
I've the SGS2 and even if the color was a bit... strange, the fluidity is awesome.
In my opinion, go for Xperia S because S2 is older.
Wait till MAY
According to the rumors, Galaxy S3 is going to be announced sometime in May. That phone like its predecessor, will blow everything available right now out of water...
sometimes i think the colours looks heated.
I want more natural colors..
Go for the S2, and you will never regret it. Also buy a cheap plastic bumper to protect the screen!

Hi,
I want to buy new phone. Now I'm using I9000 and I'm pretty happy with it. Also got I9100 but for almost two months is in service beacuse they don't wanna to replace greenish screen. So both are going to the market and I'm searching something new. I need phone for:
- normal phone stuff, calls, text
- web browsing, mail (important)
- sometimes play games (not important)
- photo, music
What I like in I9000:
- screen
- great sound on internal speaker
- size
What I hate in I9000:
- lack of camera LED
- sometimes laggy browser
- terrible chassis
What I like in I9100:
- CPU
What I hate in I9100:
- greenish screen
- it's a little big, but I can live with it
- terrible sound
- chassis
So that's should clear what I want, of course I don't want something worse in any things mention above. I think about two models:
- One S - love design, I think in future will be great support
- Xperia S - fine design, but I think support will be weak
I love to change roms and play (not play games, but change themes, roms, applying mods etc) with device, so I think HTC is way to go, but I'm not sure... I also thought about One X, but it's too big, and slower in normal day using. Games aren't important to me, so I think I never use full power of Tegra. Speed in normal using is more important to me.
There is also price... In Poland for now One S isn't official and price is almost the same like One X, so is definietly overpriced. Xperia S is 1/3 price cheaper then One X so price is good. I thinking maybe to wait a month a buy phone later, after premier of S3 price defimietly will drop down, I think One S price will be similar to Xperia S.
So that's all, thanks for any help I'm read and watch a lot, but still not sure about right choice...
Cheers
If he price is so close get one x. Xperia s is severely underpowered with specs that make it already outdated on release. If u can't afford one x, get one s. No contest
Xperia s has been tested to be faster than the one s and x for web browsing and I don't think the Xperia s is underpowerd.
I also know Sony have better support than HTC because helps developers and HTC does not so I think it is a matter of personal preference because the Xperia s has a better camera and screen than the HTC I personally would go with the Sony but it is up to you.

I am facing the same decision over which phone I want more... One X is too big for me and I am on AT&T so the One S may not give me good data speeds everywhere.. The Xperia works on all AT&T bands, but is just not as sexy or solid feeling.
I also am concerned about development.. mostly MIUI (after trying many others on my Desire), but am open to new things.
I did find this.. it may help you..

Hi guys,
As you can guess, I'm not fan with latest smartphones like Galaxy SII and SIII, HTC Sensation, and so on.
I consider them simply too big to be used as phones. I could never do or answer a call with these ones.
I think of them like "monster" phones.
Why, Is there no new android phone (high quality level) with dimensions lower than 4.0 inches?
I think this is a thing Iphone is better than other phones (at the moment).
Do you really like "bigger and bigger" smartphones?

I like bigger ones, to a point, too big gets uncomfortable to use, the sensation might be the biggest I can use (I have small hands) smaller screens are harder to see for me. my eyes are going. soon time for glasses.
i like S3 and One X but i think bigger phone like Note is great for the big screen but to unusefull for the too big dimention
I like very much but i think the Galaxy's SIII size is the limit to be cool.
Big phones are good to a point. The galaxy note is too large.
I do not see what the big problem is?
Why do people moan about size? It's perfectly fine size.
Smart phone that is. You just get used to them. Big deal. move on.
well that all depends on your use and really preference. I got the Note a month ago and dont regret it at all. Honestly when i pick up a captivate with 4 inch screen i have trouble using it. If i was to just want a smartphone for regular smartphone stuff instead of a tablet phone, then i would have to go under 5", but i like the option of screen real estate just in case. Its really just comes down to preference.
uhm...,
obviously I don't refer to Galaxy Note, its not a true smartphone at all.
It has been created for other purpose, and in this case I could agree with dimensions.
Anyway in my honest opinion:
1. For me it's a pain to stay more than 5 minutes in call with a SGII near my ear. Too big for one hand.
2. It is not so smart to use more than one finger to reach all the corners of the display.
3. It is not so handy
4. It is not so comfortable in pocket.
Have you even bothered researching your own claims, of course there are new 4" fones on the market!

Yes, the only new smartphone the suite my needs is the Experia Sola, but it is not the top in the hardware.
I haven't found other smartphones with 3.7''-4'' display size and top hardware.
There is the HTC ONE S, that HTC says is "a compact size", but it is 4.3'' display!

Font size is indipendent from display size.
What is different is only the area to contain the stuff.
As example, I find the SGII default look&feel size too big and unaesthetic.

Yes, I fully agree with you;

yeah, bigger is better. the resolution is everything for todays mobiles phones
I think better is not really good after is break, 4.0 inch it is the maximum fro me
It depends on the user's hand, head and pocket size. Lol!
e.g. The Incredible Hulk will need at least a 7-inch tablet as a Smartphone.
Tinker Bell can use the iPhone as a big screen HDTV.

i use to feel the same way. i remember the first time i bought my first smart phone it was an iphone. i remember walking into to the store and then walking out saying no way, no way it's just too big. and that was going from a small nextel push to talk phone. to the iphone 3g it was just way bigger it was like a monster compaired to my nextel. so it took me awhile too go back to store (about a month later) i eventually got the iphone 3g. and i remember thinking the whole time as i drove back home... this thing is too big i know i'm not going to like but i gave it a try. the first few days were hard i'm mean the size and the battery life was not what i was accustomed to. but i eventually git used to the size and the bad battery life.
my last iphone was a iphone 4. and my current phone now is a GS2 and now when ever i pick up an iphone it's just way too small i can't go back no way. i am now thining of the getting the note. at this point i have lerned to adapt the newer bigger phones and find myself never looking back to the old 3.5-4.0 days.
guess this guys video explains how i feel now.
http://youtu.be/cl6AHTNef-s
Like someone saldo it allí depends on the need. I heard somebody that those huge pones were made for People with big hands Like basketball and football de playero. I also heard that información japan all Phone were miniture and u can do anything with it.
i dont really like that Trend of bigger and bigger Phones, i mean, 4" is the biggest i would buy, first i had a Nokia N95 its was cool and for that time THE High End Device but it was really thick and i think the screen too small for Internet(2,6"), so i got a Nokia C6-00, bad performance but relativly good screen (3,2") in fact the Displaycable broke and i needed Replacement , now i changed to Sony Xperia P (4") and it fits perfect!
Two Friends of mine owned HTc One X and Galaxy SIII and i had both in my Hand but they are definitly too big by slightly low resolution change...
bigger or just nice
there are many phones just release and releasing soon in the android market.having alot of my time researching for specs of this upcoming phones,i can say that 4.2-4.8 inch display phones will become the norms in the near future.its about individual preference.i still stick to my nexus one.hehe.but have eyes on the s2(not s3 as for me the design is odd)..
I think there is a balance between too big and just right. Having said that, it is a moving scale, because everybody has different needs and uses for the device.
i don't like mini-laptop size any phones........
Hi
just about to buy this phone for my GF. Only worry is the often mentioned sluggishness in the reviews. is is that bad ? any android version doing better at that ? or do you need to tune it ?
she had sk17i so far (until it broke) and it was good enough, similar specs I think.
Cheers
Don't buy it if you still can - there are much more better phones
J hardware was already crap when it came out and faulty models are the reasons why it's considered as slow device.
As of real amount of sluggishness it depends from phone to phone - mine works smoothly at any rom.
You can do many things if it's slow - factory reset, greenify, overlocking, various tweaks and mods, trying cm10

So it depends on the given version ? We have low budget so sk15i / sk17i was some checked good one in that priced range and for a bigger screen alternative thats the one I found. She tends to break things so not to waste money its about ~50-70eur used phone locally in poland.
criteria: not too large ~4 inch, battery more likely to last 2 days then one with occassional wifi/internet, sar ratings say below 1
Looks like HTC incredible S could be good ?
not sure about windows phone but Lumias like 610 or 710 are in budget range too
That's not too much.
Htc incredible s is an alright phone. Check out galaxy s,htc desire s, galaxy ace 2 if you want to.
If she had an android before, she probably wouldn't like a windows phone - lack of apps, features etc.

Thanks for that! I actually missed Desire S and Ace 2 in my search. galaxy s has no flash and is quite old. Also xperia arc s seems good too but is quite tall and has not front camera.
I forgot to mention that durability (like after drops) in opinions matters and those are good for Desire S, also it does some better videos as seen on that tool:

Actually just discovered about GAlaxy S Advance that has some better guts, 4" and amoled display that shouldnt be a problem in sunlight. Did find some offers within price range for that. However the videos made by it are noticably worse than Desire S... choice still difficult lol
Xperia M, well also in price range and seems better hardware too but from what I read suffers from both sunlight problem and poor camera
Decisions, decisions
I recommend that you chose three or more models and let her choose the one she likes the most.
