This thread is discussion about porting Motoblur 2.1 (Cliq Leak) to our devices. I've supplied my work below. Finish it if you wish, or use it as reference.
THIS DOES NOT GET PASSED THE SPLASH SCREEN. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO FLASH THIS UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO DEBUG IT.
Done:
- edited boot.img (init.rc) (added init.trout, init.sapphire)
- a2sd (/sd-ext)
- oc'd kernel 2.26.34
- swap
- root
- Patched MTD Partitions. (THANKS FIRERAT & jcarrz1!)
To Do:
- Get it to boot. Almost done. Just audio issue.
Changelog | Issues:
Error Messages:
#demesg - "htc-acoustic: ioctl: invalid command"
#logcat - "Volmgr not ready to handle device"
Thanks/Credits:
Cyanogen, Kingklick92, Daneshm90, ChiefzReloaded, Firerat, shafty23, JesusFreke, jcarrz1, Drizzy, lbcoder, kmobs, barak,art010606.
If I missed anyone let me know.
I'm not responsible to what happens to your device.
Instructions FOR DEBUGGING:
- Nandroid backup before anything.
- Flash patch. (MTDBLUR-Patch.zip)
- Reboot to recovery mode.
- Flash ROM. (failblur-last-signed.zip)
Note: When flashing the rom, it will hang a bit near the end of the installation. Give it time.
Revert MTD Partitions (system: 90mb. cache:2mb. data: remaining.)
- Mount sdcard. Delete file /sdcard/mtdpartmap.txt.
- Flash FR-MTD-PartHack-recovery-v1-1_S.zip
- Reboot on recovery.
- Restore nandroid back up.
Have fun !
awesome. cant wait to see how it goes. i really hope people take this up. i cant stand stock and hero has seemed to die down. i personally didnt have a problem with blur. im big on social networking apps and blur is big for that. i really didnt mind it much at all and would LOVE to have a great blur rom. only problem with the cliq itself is that its a brick and moto keeps it locked up tighter than the house that is surrounded by cops in a "to catch a predator episode"
for those of you who dont know alot about it btw here are some of the new features,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpRUdHGirKQ
Only thing that looks cool about 2.1 is the adjustable widgets, from what I've seen on the Droid, the launcher runs slow and looks a lil choppy. I can't wait to see this done though

Yeah it was only in blur, it's in ADW but it doesn't work that well since the widgets weren't even made to be adjustable.

your issues would be trying to actually succeed with a2sd at such an early stage. allow me to suggest shifted mtd partitions, see firerat's thread on the 1st page of this forum (usually)
it'll allow you to cram everything on. you'll have to edit the boot.img to negate the effects of a2sd support.

Yup, that was my error. I still had default kernel from the dump. lol.
OP updated.
Won't be able to work on this until Monday. My sdcard fried (Original one from launch). I'm basically phone less because I fastboot erased system, Rebooted into recovery, and sdcard wasn't detected. So no nandroid restore or rom flashing.
Still not booting though. Anyone care to help? I don't want this ROM to go the way the pulse 2.1 rom did....

it likely will... they're a pain in the ass to port, and they're slow even when they work, so i don't want to waste my time. The only worthwhile things atm are 2.1 sense and 2.2. But good luck, if it shows promise when you get it working, i'll jump all over it.

the origional blur ports werent slow for first releases. i mean, im no expert when it comes to porting, but blur and pulse always seem to get little effort put into them. idk if its just the fact that the rom is so tied to the moto phones themselves or what the deal is that it makes it so its too hard for devs to continue progress on them. i just dont see how you can say its going to run slow and not be worthwhile without even seeing a preliminary release that actually boots...
idk, i just really hope someone will pick it up. if i knew how to do any of this stuff i would have tried my hand at it but i have no clue as to porting and i dont have the time with my work/family schedule.
sucks to the OP though. hope you can get a new sd card and a useful phone again.

Well it isn't necessarily moto blur, just an OS with little moto blur add-ons.
are you sure your sdcard is fried? I have a method to bypass sd temporarily, to flash a rom, etc.

I got it back working. I figured out what happened. Something in my SPL was messing with my sdcard. I dont know how, but it was. It was making large qxdm_[time stamp].qm files each time i booted to recovery.
Solution: Get another sdcard, copy DREAIMG.nbh to sdcard and go back to 1.0. Btw, UI is ugly back then. lol. Then I rerooted. Reformatted my original sdcard. And now everything's working. I'll keep working on this tomorrow or Monday.
Port of the Mytouch3g rom that had a rom stock rom from the Wildfire S
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025330
Rom link will be available again when I get a bootable version.
How to flash:
Go to clockwork recovery and wipe and format everything except sdcard.
Install the rom.
Boot up and wait a while (might take about 10 mins so have patience)

If you actually complete a GSM port of THIS! Wow that'll be amazing. I am curious though, since the mods frown on "coming soon" threads, what is your definition of "soon". I might actually enjoy sense if it was GB fast. Thanks for working on this! I know *some* devs have said they want this, but I don't know if you've asked them for help/teamwork. Not a bad idea, there's only a few devs left anyway, send some PMs maybe you will find some nice help

Actually im going to but the link up by today for people to test out. My phone is a jerk though and for every sense rom that isnt eclair only goes to htc boot screen and stays there (probably because of my ext3 partition or might be because im s-on) but im sure it will work for others and hopefully I will fix my Hero's problem.
Hello,
So are we talking this evening yet? It has been a long time since I was willing to drive sense! Thumbs up all the way...

Hey if you're gonna port GSM roms it takes kernel work, why on gods green earth are you s-ON !?!?!?
EDIT: also, if I read that correctly, you are not able to boot? I hope I misunderstood you...........
EDIT 2: I now reread your posts, and remembered your earlier thread posts today "I don't know how to port a GSM rom" and your last post in that thread was about 2pm, this OP at about 5:30. I sincerely want you to drop this ROM, but I now doubt you ported a GSM rom in a few hours. I really hope my suspicions are wrong, but if you don't post a bootable ROM, well.............................
I need to flash something. This may hold back the shakes & the slobbering tonight.

based SOLELY on this post, I will not flash whatever you put up - unless of course others do and it works - but it won't I'm sure. You don't flip a frakking switch to go "off" And you just confirmed you have a zip that will do nothing. Booting up a ROM has NOTHING to do with the security state of your bootloader. Man this kinda reminds me of "webOS on heroC"......... Prove me wrong, please.

Well, again, proof? I have a few thoughts that may help you. First, get s-off. Then, these froyo and GB sense ROMs are HUGE and may actually need custom MTD partitions for a larger /system (see firerats). Third, booting a beast that big will take a WHILE. Still, proove me wrong.

I would recommend the eng-spl method, as it allows fastboot commands such as "fastboot erase system -w" which may help you flash these things after a clean wipe. How big is the ROM.zip ? That should tell you how large your system partition needs to be. I think the stock system partition size is 160mb. I remember in the beginning of the froyosense port it needed to be around 200 or so.....

just Got my Mytouch today !! i dev for the epic 4g but since i gained employment at Tmobile ive decided to get another phone just curious
how many rom/kernel dev's are there ?
lol.. we just got it rooted. Roms should be out within another month or so..
a month lol not even that long my dude
Well I saw CM7 is being ported by nightly to the sensation. You know the sensation and the mt4gs are like twins with different personality. Also to get a camera apk to work on other rom didnt they released the source for this phone on htc dev site.
Sent from my myTouch 4g Slide.
Yea, I suspect that the first beta roms will start appearing in a few weeks, maybe sooner. But I wouldn't expect stable roms to start showing up for at least a month.
The camera is going to be one of the things holding it back.
I, personally, would like to see some almost stock roms with CPU control....I would like to see sense go away, but it appears that would effect the camera to some extent. Either way, I'm happy to have root at this point. At least I was able to uninstall the bloakware and crap that I couldn't seem to stop running in the background.
Well when I get home tonight ill give a look into the source codes that htc released. I'll let you guys know if the frameworks is in it or not.

I can try and port a sense 3.0 rom for you guys, but i'll need testers for it. And to the above poster, porting from Sensation to MT4GS isn't easy, this device has WVGA, while Sensation uses qHD instead.

If you do this, try and incorporate the stock camera .apk from the tmobile rom.
I REALLY think it's totally sense specific like the other sense rom cameras.

Not by htc, by members of xda of course. I've used the MT4GS camera on a rooted ver of the MT4G's 2.3.4 build and it works fine.
And on another note, i've finished the alpha port, i'll upload it to multiupload

I recommend that you guys do a nandroid prior to trying the rom.
DOWNLOADING - I'll keep you updated!
going to take my girlfriends's phone today and try the rom, thanks.
initial install has me hanging at splash screen.
redownloading to make sure it wasn't just a bad download.
interestingly, the install in CWM took like 5 seconds.. literally. so fast I couldn't even read what it was doing.
will report back shortly.
edit: second go-around with a fresh download and I'm still stuck at splash screen. formatted /data, /cache, /system and deleted .android and android-secure on my sd card prior to flashing.
do you need a logcat, Ace?

well I'd happily provide, but I can't get it. never run into this when trying to pull logcat.. judging from that error message, it sounds like /system isn't being written to during install? I dunno. let me know if I can help any other way, or if you have a suggestion for pulling a logcat another way.

restoring my backup for now.
I NANdroided, wiped data/cache/dalvik and installed from zip. Like pmcqueen said it flew through the install and rebooted automatically on me. It doesn't look like it actually rewrote/installed anything because my custom boot animation was still there from before. Unlike pmcqueen mine booted up fine, pretty fast actually, but acted as if I had just performed a fresh wipe of the ORIGINAL ROM; it took me through the MT4GS video and was the same rom, only as if I had just performed a factory reset. I wonder if it's clockwork that didn't perform the necessary functions? Are the files/folders/locations different on the MT4GS and that's why it didn't write anything? I didn't get any error messages... It's been a long time and I don't remember how to run logcats, so refresh me, and I'll hook you up. But it sounds like it just didn't install anything at all.
I think I know the issue, i'm working on it right now. I'm about to upload the 2nd test in a few minutes.

Ok so am familiar with android, and regularly flash and tweek my nookColor, but this phone is just WOW!
Ditching an iCrap4 for this phone was the best idea I had in a while, and within an hour after buying it I rooted it (had to do other shopping) . But there is so much more to choose from for an actual android device. The thing is I want to stay on stock 2.2.1 for a little while, until I do a lot more studying on roms.
Ok so here are my questions after tearing thru the searches with several different phrases:
1: Can I flash different kernels on stock rom? I keep getting many threads and read thru them hard but can't find the answer. Looking at Community Kernel 8.
2: Darn, reading thru other threads while creating this post fried my brain, forgot what 2 was.
Thanks y'all.
Yes You can! . I have flashed many different kernels on stock rogers infuse 2.3.3 with odin. I dont see why you wouldnt be able to on the AT&T version.
Sweet! Now to read up on odin, but will SGS or CWM work on the stock? That was the second question.

SGS kernel flasher works fine on stock ROOTED 2.2.1 ROM. I believe CWM is flashed/installed when you flash the community kernel in SGS kernel flasher or other method. I can't remember off-hand as it's been a while since I was on stock froyo for any length of time. LOL.
You will probably also want to read up on Heimdall as well. It's a good method of flashing pretty much anything to your phone and Odin can be finicky sometimes. Personally, I've never had a problem with Odin but knowing how to use both is a good idea. You know, just in case.
Even sweeter then, and I have CWM already, so that will get replaced? No problem.
This is gonna be hectic keeping all the stuff for the "andros" seperate. lol
I'm really itching to flash a rom, but this thing is set up like I like it, and it was a pain getting her there.
That is why I am waiting to flash, I'll get bored with the way it looks in a week or so, and start over.
Plus RESEARCH is crucial.
Thanks y'all
Ok flashing community v8 now and this voice is telling me it has 5 mins left, oh that is cool!
Now how do I tell if it took? What should cpu spy say? And I still have the green CWM. ( using rom manager, think its ok but can I switch it?)
3 button takes me to Red CWM 2.5.1.3 Voodoo lagfix. It wont let me get to my actual mSD card though. Is that normal?

I don't think rom manager does us infuse owners any good so you can install it but I've read it doesn't work all that well with our phones. It worked flawlessly with my n1 but support for infuse is not there yet.
I've never been able to mount the SD card in red cwm if that's what you were referring to. The community kernel does not overclock so really you just take advantage of the ext4 fs and voodoo lagfix (robot voice lol).
Hope this helps.

So everything is going good, trying out different radios now as service in my area sucks!
I have run into a small problem though, I really want a different boot animation, but there is no bootanamation.zip in the system/media folder on the stock rom. Just a bunch of .qmg files. Can I just add the file and it work? I was gonna try it, but wanted to see if anyone else was a guinea pig. Dont wanna screw something up too bad.

if your on stock i believe they are located somewhere else, but the main question is why are you still on stock??? :O
want good battery life and performance? CM7 is the way to go. yeah you can get prolly the same off infused or other roms, but thats after numerous tweaks, tweak this change that, tighten that up, loosen that up, delete that, add this blah blah blah. in my experiences, CM7 is the best out of all of them.
just my 7 cents.
Is everything (bluetooth) working on CM7 (HDMI doesn't I know)? Weird issues of any kind?
That or Serendipity are what I am looking at.
Bluetooth is the only buggy thing. But I don't use it so it doesn't bother me. Other than that its amazing.

If the bootanimation.zip isn't in system/media try data/local. I don't currently have an infuse, in waiting for mine , but other phones I've owned have had the zip in data/local... Good day
Tried data local, but I think the only way to get custom is to have a custom rom. No boot.zip on phone at all using a searcher.
it has to kernel enabled too... Once you get on CM7, if you do, it will be in the media folder.

Big dog Infuse I997 GB KJ4
Tried that too, no luck.
So Im lookin at S7, but coming from stock ROM, with infused 2.0 kernel, I know I need the infused GB kernel after flashing the ROM, but do I have to wipe system and DATA, and start customizing my stuff again? Or just format system, cache and dalvic, flash rom and kernel, fix permissions, and go? Then my phone should be the same with all stuff there, just updated to a better ROM.
I saw this post by wang on 591fan
It seems like he has ported a custom kernel and is developing cm10.1 on it.
Thats a good news. We can finally have a stable version of cm
http://www.591fan.com/thread-41545-1-1.html
Looks good if it sorts out the bugs on cm10, id be more than happy !
And what he says in that? I don't understand nothing. Not even using the translator
Even i didnt get what he said.. read the comments and people are exclaiming about a new kernel.. 'sofa and front row' support from me too if its true
I am guessing kexec support has finally come to wang's cm10.1 version. That or he is using 2nd init to load it. This is not a true unlocked BL kernel... just for his cm10.1 only, you will most likely not be able to use it with other roms, unless it a cm based one, that say altered could stuff into his PA versions or something.
The real issue will be battery life and RAM usage, because with kexec and 2nd init, you load the stock kernel then unload that and load the "custom one" so there is still some ram holding some of the "old/stock kernel" all the time.
And cand somebody talk to him? Or at least tell him that we are wondering what he do
Just give it some time you will find out exactly what is going on.....
This sounds complex...so thats why cm10.1 is dead at the moment..bootloader being locked down..i thought a custom kernel wasnt possible.
Any news?

Its out right now. Check out http://www.591fan.com/thread-43502-1-1.html
That's is great but that does mean we have to load the kernel by kexec and use 2nd inuit like Jim mentioned correct
And will we be able to run the new kernel with Bmm and patch... Would love to try it
Bmm
1. Stock 4.0.4
2. Miui
3. PA 310 4.2.2
4. CMPA 4.1.2

The new ROM and kernel is a single flashable zip file. Wang reminded that the ROM does not support bmm.
From what I read from the forum, some people are facing bootloop after flashing the ROM
Any brave ATT tester ??
I know it won't flash w/ patched bmm... I've Tried bout dozen times
Bmm
1. Stock 4.0.4
2. Miui
3. PA 310 4.2.2
4. CMPA 4.1.2
You can not use BMM to flash this, even with the patch.
YOU MUST use either safestrap, which can boot kexec ROMS, but most likely this will barf since wang has CWM build into his roms with 2nd init, so....
You will HAVE to flash this with bootstrap and it will be your only ROM. I have read that others are having issues getting it to boot at all right now, so my guess is that this is still not ready for prime time yet, go check out the dev thread about the cm10.1 ROM, that hankbizzo5 posted, it talks about everyone bootlooping who has tried this, so far.

it should work just fine with bmm.. of course as long as kexec files are in the right place.. download is almost completed.. will check now..
And considering how things are going, looks like you will have to get back your ATRIX 2 now ..
EDIT: As expected, kexec files are in/system/bootmenu/2nd-boot. Moved to the right place and tried with bmm.. well, once the modules are loaded and kexec executed, bmm loses where the system files are.. but then again, whirleyes says 2nd boot is WIP.. so no option as of now.. I will try editing the ramdisk tomorrow.. hope things work.. now off to installing by bootstrap..

Sorry, but this should NOT work with BMM.... BMM has its own way of handling the boot of the ROM. Wang has CWM built in with 2nd init, even using the patch with the 2nd init and kexec, this should NOT work. It is MUCH safer NOT to use BMM.
There are reasons BMM was made, and the way that CWM being embedded in the ROM with kexec, makes this much more complex, than just the standard boot with your stock kernel, no matter how kexec was implemented.
Yeah I really do not want my A2 back, sorry guys. The whole moto thing left a real bad taste in my mouth, besides working on Ubuntu phone is way more my style anyhow. I am only in here, since it looks like most have bailed. It looks like there are really only 2 devs still left, so I am kind of slowly stepping away. I am still doing some work on the back side, just do not want to do the day to day with it anymore.
Please, look into kexec and how BMM does that pass off, as well as the way that wang has it implemented into the ROM, and where he does the kernel switch off, all of those things matter. It specifically says on 591fan that bootstrap is the ONLY way to do this right now, there are several reasons behind this. BMM is mentioned but not recommended.
