Hi guys,
I have no idea why during calls sometimes the touchscreen activates itself which results in pressing mute or hold by accident... this is really annoying, i have to keep the phone far from my ear to avoid this. Anyone knows how to stop this?
Thanks!
My Wife has the same problem... Anyone have any idea? or how to just kill the mute and hold buttons in the dialer or render them inoperable?
Solution: I used Cheekey Hang Up Gard. This is free and works fine for me. It locks the screen during a call unless you press the back-button.
The problem with hitting keys by mistake happens to all the people who do not press the phone so close to the ear. In this case screen might activate so that you can hit some button with your ear.
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar! That is EXACTLY the type of solution I was looking for, both elegant, simple, AND free. I searched for a solution before posting, but apparently my android and google-fu is not as advanced as yours. I bow before a greater power (bow).
Thank you!
Thanks works like a charm

Do alternative markets like 1mobile work there? There is a program called "Don't Hang Up" (which I didn't try). But I attached Cheeky Hang Up Guard here.

Oh... I fear there won't be any software solution for that problem... If you are fast enough you could try cleaning it with distilled water and only use the phone again when it is 100% dried. However water might also come to some places where it is hard to get it gone again.

well it worked partially for a while... pity it was a nice phone!
The problem happens when you tilt the phone past a certain degree. I think it may be the flip for speaker mode. I'm going to shut it off and see if it happens anymore.
any way to change the calling screen guys??

Over last 2 months my XDA2 has started to hard-reset itself while it's in my pocket.
Usually happens while I'm walking. Always kept in my pocket, in its original leather case.
No recent drop/fall/injury
Now it's happening every other day....
Is it a hardware problem? Could not find any previous posts with this problem.
I have insurance but I don't want to have to send it back to O2 - can't bear to live without it for a week.
:x
Make sure your button locking feature is on. When I first got mine the audio record button used to get triggered in my pocket. Subsequently it would save an audio file to my program memory until the unit froze because it had no more memory left to run the processor. Subsequently it would not operate until I removed the battery and replaced resulting in a hard reset.

Thanks for the reply. I always keep The button lock on as I have had exactly that same problem before! But the XDA now actually spontaneously hard resets and the first I Know of it is That portentious ''bling" tap the center of the screen to calibrate...
Any ideas ? Do I need to take it to a shop?

hmmm sounds like a fault to me. Or maybe a loose battery or something. I know that the battery contacts in the XDA are sensitive to capacitant discharge, etc.
Hey ya all
Ive tried to google for this issue but haven't found anything. I got it yesterday evening, about 1-2 hours after OTA update to 2.3.4.
So what happens is when I hit the on/off button to turn of the screen, it sometimes goes black for about half a second and then turns back on. Same when I try to wake it, goes light and then goes dark. So it seams like a dubbleclick almost.
Sometimes I've also got the issue that my Home button just keeps making screen shots, took me a while to figure out thats conected to the power button. How am I supposed to take a screenshot? Could it be a simple hardware issue where the button gets stuck? I've tried to remove the backcover and clean up, but it all seams fine for my untrained eye.
How are you holding the phone when this happens? This same thing happens to me sometimes if I kind of wrap my hand around it when I pick it up. I unconsciously hit the volume button like half a second before I hit the power button, and the volume button wakes the phone & then the power button turns it right back off.
It can happen whatever way Im holding it im afraid, and it has only occured since last night. Lets see if someone else got this after 2.3.4 or if its just a wierd coincidence.
And also, as I said, it seam to bug out my screenshot function.
That's not a coincidence, happens to me as well.
My guess is that's because of the new screenshot feature (hold Power+Home). Can anyone hazard a guess as to how to turn it off?
Well, guess it's a good thing it aint then, hopefully it'll get fixed.
No one else with this issue? It anoyys me alot
I have this issue, but it only happens if I press the button too fast or something. I don't know how to explain.
happens to me too
Randomly enough, just tried the screenshot function and it said saved to Camera folder but it's not there. What app is used to take it? Someone said it was MySketcher but I don't know
I spoke to HTC support sweden today and they didnt seam to be aware of this issue atleast. Keeps happening to me about 30% of the times i hit the button.. I dont think its hardware issue but didnt care to factory reset the phone yet.. Anyone of you with the issue has other than stock rom? Did it only happen after you upgraded to latest firmware? Ive only had it since 2.3.4.
I'm getting this exact same issue since upgrading to 2.3.4. I have a stock ROM too. It's really annoying, press the on/off button and it doesnt always turn it off, it does exactly the same as what the op says.
Also getting it take screen shots when I press the home button.

Was abit tricky to understand you, well anyway, so you had it repaired then? Id love to avoid that, hate being without the phone. But maybe thats the only solution.
Thanks for your input.
Yea I'm not so sure if this is a software thing. I haven't experienced this during regular use, but I have experienced a double-press effect while in Clockwork Mod. If I press the button on the leftmost part and do it slowly, I can get a double click without actually clicking it twice. Scares the crap out of me when I'm flashing roms and kernels.
So maybe something is up with the power button itself? Too sensitive maybe?
same issue here, was afraid it was my button. first i thought it was crt animations that were causting it. i have to go in to build.prop and turn off power+home screen shots because half the time i hit home it take a screenshot. not sure what's up with the power button.
have the issue on both bulletproof and eaglesblood, both 2.3.4
Happens to me as well and drives me absolutely insane.. The problem is definitely hardware.. I got a replacement back cover under warranty and after two weeks the problem is back just as bad.
To somewhat remedy the screen off/on flicker, i use 'screen off and lock' for long press of search button.. Not the same I know, but at least it doesn't flicker back on.
As for recovery, you can use home/menu for up/down, back for back and search for select.. I find this light years easier than having to ninja push the power button to avoid a double press.
I wish there was some way to fix the damn button tho.. I don't understand how HTC screwed it up so bad.

Having the same problem. Is the problem with the back cover or the phone itself? I looked at the button underneath the case and it looks bent. I was thinking maybe a tiny piece of paper inside would help, if it does, I'll report back
EDIT: playing with the button with the case off shows no problem. It has to be the way the case interacts with the button
EDIT 2: A piece of paper doesn't completely relieve the problem but does make it much harder to reproduce, and in my opinion, it's much nicer to press now
EDIT 3: Thicker paper=issue solved. I'll send HTC an email about it not reaching the button all the way, maybe they can do a recall on affected backings

I ripped off a little piece of paper from a paper cd case about the width of the button inside, I then folded it until I found the perfect thickness and set it on top. I just carefully put the backing back on. It pushes the power button up about double what it was. I'd take pics but all it is is a piece of paper sitting on top XD

Heya, i know this has info here and there but here's the deal:
The power button has gone soft lately, it was good but then it became really sensitive to touch "one touch to activate" which was cool, until it started pressing by itself, now when i click it to lock the screen it turns on again, and if i shake the phone or something it'll activate.
But now it goes on and off randomly, and sending me sometimes to the power screen i can even activate it by pressing against the body around the front camera.
any ideas what might be causing it (my guess it's a broken/displaced spring), and please if you have links/guides to fix the thing (teardown vids/whatever) i'll be most thankful ^^
i looked around but i want something specific to our device, thanks! <3

Hardware problem mate. Will need repair. Read about this sometime ago where a user had actually taken the DS apart and fixed a broken plastic lever under the power button that does it... but since the power button presses a switch directly mounted on the motherboard beneath, i'd suggest you refrain from doing this yourself unless you are fairly good with tinkering with electronic innards. I mean software is one thing to mess around with, but hardware has very hairy balls indeed!
P.S. Love the thread title!!

I've experienced the same...
But I think it's good
Sent my thoughts to your head with XDA App
So I sent a text before dinner, put my phone down on the table, and ate. When I finished and tried to check my phone, it was off. The power key is unresponsive, along with no vibration on hold. I've done all the possible button holds for about a minute. It doesn't seem to register at all when plugged into the computer. I have a crack in my screen from an unfortunate drop about a month ago, so I know RMA is off the table.
Is there anyway I can fix this, or is this a case of ponying up for a replacement?
PS: It's also rooted, with CF-autorooter if I remember properly, with stock 4.4.2

If the phone doesn't respond to any key combinations, there's little you can do with it.
Why not try to RMA it? If it's a little crack, I doubt whether they will deny RMA. Besides that, you've got nothing to loose.

Hey all,
My nexus 5 is keep unlocking itself while it's in my pocket, and doing random things like calling people, opening apps etc.
I set the pattern lock, and it helped, but from time to time I still see that screen is awake when I pick phone from pocket, sometimes it's in emergency call... Is there a "pocket mode" or something that I turned on or what's up with my phone?
Anyone else experiencing similar thing?
I hate pattern lock thing as well, but I saw that as only solution to a problem that I had.
HA..ha.ha.. Happens to me all the time. But in my case it happens only when i get a call while the phone is in the pocket. Not only does the call get rejected or accepted, but it also unlocks the phone, opens a plethora of apps and then goes back to sleep.
Now, the solution
Do you use a case? If yes, is the power button covered by the case? If yes, then you can either change your case or cut the case around the power button.
If you don't use a case, make sure your power button is not messed up! or you might have to replace the button (THE CERAMIC ONE)
Good luck let us know how it goes

Thanks for your quick answer.
I do not use case yet, looking for one these days for sure. The phone is new so I don't think that button should be replaced, it's working just fine from what I can tell. Guess that i'll have to stick with pattern and to see if some nice case can help with this problem as well.
Thank you once again.
Never once has my Nexus 5 done anything in my pocket. I'd say its your pocket's fault, not the Nexus 5
I'm running LiquidSmooth. It has an option that the screen doesn't turn on if something covers the proximity sensor. It's quite useful when your N5 is in your pocket but if it is laying on the table and I try to unlock it I need to watch out a bit
Sorry for my bad English
