Rogers/ATT HTC One X on WIND/T-Mobile (AWS) - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I know the phone comes locked from Rogers, but I was wondering if anyone has used an online unlocking service, trimmed a SIM into a microsim, and tested that the Rogers version does in fact work on WIND.
I will be doing this shortly, so check back for updates!
April 25, 2012 Part 2
I got the SIM from my friend and marked it up.

I cut the SIM down to microsim size.
Booted up my phone, entered the unlock code from cellunlocker.
And got no signal ):
This SIM is (was) working in an HTC Incredible S (international version that supports AWS) immediately before I trimmed it. The trim was successful since the SIM had a PIN lock and unlocking it was successful. I could also see the contacts stored on the SIM.
I went into testing mode to play with the radio settings.
And still get 'No Signal' and 'Emergency Only'.
I've notified HTC again about this and I'll let you know what they advise.
Also, if anyone wants to help me recover the cost of a new WIND SIM ($25), I'd greatly appreciate it, although it's highly unnecessary

Just an update: I contacted HTC regarding the discrepancy between the official specifications (AWS on wcdma), and Rogers' specifications (AWS on LTE only) and received this very promising response:
Thank you for contacting HTC. I would be glad to clarify this for you Daniel.
The HTC One X as sold by Rogers Wireless supports the following bands LTE CAT3 - DL 100 /UL 50; LTE: 700/AWS; WCDMA: 2100/1900/AWS/850; EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 .
It should not be a problem for you to use an unlocked version of this device with the Canadian carrier of your choice, if you so choose. To ensure that the tech specs on our support site were accurate, I conferred with our escalations team. You can be confident that it does indeed support the bands as indicated.
As for why these specs differ on the Rogers support page, I cannot say. Originally the specs were posted there the same as the official HTC support page. I have brought this to the attention of the appropriate department internally on your behalf. They will look into contacting Rogers to see about having the data corrected on their site to avoid any further confusion to our HTC customers.
For more tech specs or to get the user manual for this phone, please visit our official support site at http://www.htc.com/ca/support/htconex-rogers/tech-specs/ . On the downloads tab you can access your user guide if necessary. Use the binocular icon on the left to enter keywords. This will search the guide and provide you a list of pages that refer to your search term.
If you have any other questions for me, please don't hesitate to reply Daniel. We are open from 6am to 1am eastern time, 7 days a week.
Thank you again for contacting HTC, and have a great evening!

I'll follow-through on my test run on WIND tomorrow (going to cut up a friend's SIM!).

Thanks. I'll be looking forward to your findings. I'm interested in using it for Mobilicity.

I might wait a little longer before I test this since WIND will officially be selling Microsims when they release the Lumia 710. Going to trim my Rogers sim now though. Wish me luck

Successfully trimmed my Rogers fat-sim into a microsim without much reference (I don't have a microsim to measure or anything). This is a good sign as I should be able to trim the WIND sim once I get this sucker unlocked!

Its about $20 to unlock, which isn't bad. I plan to buy the phone for use on WIND when the price drops a little bit more.
There is no reason why it shouldn't work apart from being SIM locked.

If you'd like to PM me when you're done, I'd like to write about it for the XDA Portal
Try to be as informative as possible lol, so I can better describe to others what you're doing

Did you do the unlock yet? I am very curious if the model can be used on WIND and in return T-Mobile here in the US. VERY VERY curious about this, shoot me a PM as I am willing to donate to your cause to unlock it just so I could find out the truth about the bands.

Just to let everyone know I bought the phone on Friday from rogers and used cell unlocked (google it) it only cost $8 USD and I'm now using it on Telus. The unlock code only took about an hour and they emailed it to me.

Hey, since as far as I can tell your the only one with an unlocked rogers 1x (Hofo/xda at least) do you have any way to test the phone on wind or Moblicity

Just an update, I will be porting my number over to WIND on the 27th or so. This should be the definitive date on whether this actually works and that I can trim my second SIM successfully q:
I've been collecting pictures of the process, and I will probably be writing about it once complete.

Awesome, thanks. I'm stuck waiting till 5/6 to get my hands on one. But for me it's really important that it works on T-Mobile. Because that's what I ideally will be using and so if your test goes smoothly I will know that as a worst case scenario I can always purchase the Rogers model.

Hey can you message me too when you get the results.

Does future shop allow to buy it off-contract price? I'm looking to buy it and unlock it to use with wind.

[Q] D2G unlocking help

I bought a D2G on eBay and have been trying to unlock it. The guy that i bought it from called Verizon and they gave him 3 unlock codes (all of them were 8 digits long) which didn't work. I then wen to some site where they sell unlock codes and they gave me 2 codes but they were the same as the ones I had from Verizon.
I've been reading around different forums and have seen a lot of people having these same problems and the one common thing I've found between the people that originally had the issue and were able to unlock the phone is that they got a 16 digit unlock code from a 3rd party unlocking site. Does anybody know if all D2Gs use a 16 digit unlock code or are some really using the 8 digit ones?
Also, if anybody had this problem and fixed it by buying an unlock code (or any other way) please tell me which site you bought the codes from. I don't know if posting these sites would be against the forum rules but if it is then please PM me with the URL.
Additionally, I've read from 1 or 2 people that were able to unlock it by using a Turbosim but I haven't found a lot of people commenting on these so I'm still a little skeptical. Does anybody here know if these Turbosims will indeed work with the D2G?
Thank you all in advance for your help.
seems to me that the seller sent u unlock codes from code dealers and not from vz.
for now, turbosim is the answer. it works.
I already ordered a Turbosim last night so I'll reply here once I get it and let you all know how it wnet.
I had a talk with the Verizon people today because I was trying to activate the phone on my sister's account just so I could get the phone unlocked and then switch right back. Long story short, it seems like the reason why the codes didn't work is because I'm outside the US at the moment. I thought that since you can get roaming down here you could also have the phones unlocked while you were here which apparently you can't and that's also why I couldn't activate the phone under her account either.
If the Turbosim doesn't work I'm thinking of sending the phone over to my sister's house in the US so she can get it unlocked and then send it back to me but we'll see how that goes...
Yes, you can't activate while roaming, even if there is a CDMA network where you are. Activation works only on Verizon's own network.
It is good you have an option, I am pretty sure once you activate it on your sister's account unlocking will be sorted out.
As far as TurboSIM goes, reportedly it unlocks the voice part and data works in 2G (not sure why not 3G - is it because of lack of 3G on their operator, or due to TurboSIM - did not become clear. The user reported was from Ukraine. Phone works thinking it is roaming, but the guy says works - both data and voice!)
Please let us know how it goes once you get the turbosim
I will definitely post back here once I get the TurboSIM. One other question though... If I send the phone over to my sister, would she necesarily have to activate it before she unlock is or would the unlock codes work as long as she's within reach of the Verizon network? She could still activate it if necessary but it would be better if she didn't have to go through that process since she won't be keeping the phone.

I called VZW on Jan 2011 to unlocked 2 D2G. Both were 8 digit codes and both worked right away. I have used both phones on different networks(GSM) without any issues.
for me, turbosim works just fine.
i had issues with the subsidy lock, left it on error msg for a few hours, and phone went back to regular mode.
still didnt try the 3g, hoping will test with 1 soon.
hopefully one of xda wizz will sort this thing out without needing turbosim and things like that.

hey War-Rasta, klk?
Looks like we're on the same boat here. My droid 2 global just wont unlock, I keep getting the dreaded "Network unlock request unsuccessful" message. Tell you what though, I ordered two turbo sims about 3 weeks ago from hong kong, they're currently in miami,FL so they'll most likely be here tomorrow. I'll come back and report how it goes as soon as im able to try it.
I also had someone in the US call verizon and they were about to give me the unlock code but unfortunately since the person that was calling VZW for me made the rep think he actually had the phone with him right there, he was asked to dial 226 on his phone and to choose option 1. Ofc that didnt work as im in the DR. Supposedly, option one wouldve given me some sort of code they needed first in order to give me the unlock code.
hey Xtrife. Nice to see a fellow dominican around here. I did get VZW to give me the unlock code and it was one of the same I already had but at least it seems I had the right code and just couldn't unlock it because of where I am.
Do come back to this thread when you get your TurboSIMs and let us know how it goes. Mine should be here sometime next week I think. I ordered mine on eBay from somebody in TX so I didn't have to wait too long for something to get here all the way from Hong Kong. She did say the yare supposed to work for all phones but she said that 3G is not guaranteed so I'm crossing my fingers...
Just out of curiosity, why did you get 3 of them? Do you have 3 different phones to unlock or you're just trying to play it safe in case one doesn't work?
Well seeing as how id have to pay 150 pesos here for the turbosims regardless of the quantity (id assume 10 turbosims would still weigh less than 1 lb ) i decided to order two. I've only got 1 D2G. If the turbosim card does work, wouldnt mind lending one to you until you get yours
That'd be sweet!! Thanks. I'll be waiting for your post here then to see if it worked.
wow so Ive finally got a hold of the Turbosims and i cant seem to be able to fit both my simcard and the turbo sim in the D2G simcard slot lol. Having a hard time here. The turbo sim is mostly flat like a piece of paper but its got a little bump on one of its corners. Its the black version
EDIT: Wow, so im guessing this is what im supposed to do

Well i think ive finally been able to fit the turbosim + my simcard in there but apparently all its doing is making the phone boot into the bootloader screen, im unable to enter the phone OS in order to check whether the turbosim works or not
It didn't break your phone though, did it? Are you able to boot into the OS if you remove the TurboSIM?

Awesome! I guess I'll wait for mine to come in then since the first one you tried was broken. If the one I ordered doesn't work I'll order a few of the same ones you got.
Thanks XtriFe for proving my theory with TurboSIM right!!! Phew!
I wonder if we can fool US band ban with the TurboSIM. I will be testing at first opportunity (as soon as I get a chance to get close to the US border!

You likely damaged the turbosim while trying to fit it (broke a solder point or a trace). That happened to me with one of my turbosims before.
Hey XtriFe, I just got a look at the pictures on that eBay auction you posted and I think we probably got the same one.
Mine's on its way now and should be here on Saturday if everything goes well. I have my finger crossed so I won't break mine since I only ordered one. I'll post back here as soon as I try it.

Exactly- why bother paying $ extra / month..... you can just tether
The 16GB N8000 is $632 all-in including overnight delivery from Handtech in the UK. The VZW Note is $599 plus tax making it about the same price. The N8000 is literally a phone so you can use it as a spare or when you're making video calls or on long conference calls. VZW will kill the phone and MMS feature in their version. You'll receive updates from Samsung or can use Odin to install the latest on the N8000. You're at VZW's mercy for their version. You can use the N8000 on one of the AT&T MVNO's on a cheap voice/data plan, use AT&T's DataConnect plan and pay-as-you-go ($30 = 3GB), or add it to an AT&T FamilyShare account for $10 a month. VZW is $40 a month for 4GB or $10 if you add it to an existing shared account. With VZW you'll get LTE with the N8000 you'll get HSPA+ on AT&T. You'll also have to live with the giant VZW tramp stamp on their version which is the largest gaudiest logo placement ever seen on a mobile device.
Happy deciding.

Hey, folks who picked one up already - would you be able to do me a favour please?
If you have a T-Mobile or AT&T (or even international) SIM card, would you be able to put that into the VZW Note 10.1 to see if the tablet is SIM-unlocked out of the box? I know Verizon does this with some LTE devices (like the iPhone 5) lately.
Thanks very much!

A significant number of users still claim they can't use "out of region" sims despite having first used a sim for the region the Note 3 was intended for which is the way Samsung have said is the way to 'unlock' the regional sim lock.
A number of users in this thread who found their Note3 was still region locked despite following the Samsung advice have successfully unlocked their Note3 regional lock using a Russian unlocking web site at http://puman.ru/ Although I am the OP of this thread, I do not have an out of region Sim to test this out myself - so no guarantees but read the posts!
Pics say it all. The Note 3 "unlocked" models are still locked to regions like DVD's and thus not very attractive to globetrotters or international purchasers who are being asked to pay £600 or so for a crippled device.

That better not be the case, mine will be delivered today and i'm in the U.S. next week. If it doesn't work out there like my Note 2 does, it's going straight back.
It will only accept European sim cards. As long as your UK mobile opeator has a roaming arrangement with a US carrier, you will still be able to use the phone but you won't have the option of using a sim card from Verizon, Sprint etc.

I thought i was right to cancell my order from negrielectronics and order from clove.co.uk and it just feels stupid to be informed about this today.
I cancelled my order from clove and they sent an email for refund... no more ordering from uk or europe.

Such a surprise restriction..... I'm waiting for the bad news from handtec.
I wonder what will happen to the Australian sites selling imported note 3's.

I daresay there will be frustrated customers. I havr not heard of such a restriction on a "sim-free" "unlocked" device before. All we used to have to worry aboit were the radio GSM/3G/4G/LTE bands.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 4
I think this is an absolute disgrace to be honest, why have an unlocked, tri-band phone that wont work when you go on holiday unless you pay the absolutely disgusting roaming prices that UK networks charge?? I'm so annoyed about this, who the hell are Samsung to decide that i cant put a U.S. sim in a phone I've paid over £600 for

Logically its all bluff, but im thinking of a way if they could actually do that. I mean restricting the phone not accepting any carrier unless its from europe region that means samsung have full access on europe database or certain information that they could use it on their software.
99% the restriction is being applied from the software side and 99% the pro devs on here will find a way to remove that restriction. But even though ive canceled my order and just called them to confirm my cancellation. Many negative feedbacks will follow up very soon.
I wonder why, I do remember reading an article stating Samsung wanted to stop retailers selling a German device in the UK for example.
For those affected, hopefully something simple could be found to alleviate the problem, like flashing a modem from the respective country perhaps (yeah I know, wishful thinking haha).

I am really angry about this. This is a BUSINESS phone, so many business users would have a local sim to EACH country they visit!!!
I travel to the USA a lot and always use a local SIM there, which saves thousands! Now I cannot do this?!?!?!
If I cannot unlock this "unlocked/sim-free" phone, then this is certainly the LAST Samsung I will ever buy.
Luckily got mine from O2 didnt get any such warning on box. Requested unlock code will be issed next few days.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
I believe it would just be a software restriction based on the IMSI of the SIM card inserted.
I posted about this awhile back and saw the image on this thread confirmed it. Clove.co.uk were the first to post the announcement about the restriction and it truly is a disaster for Samsung to do such a thing with the Note 3. There currently is no law Europe demanding such action so really does question their reasoning for this.
I have already contacted Samsung and I'm awaiting any comments regarding this.
I will update here and my article http://geektech.ie/index.php/europe...ote-3-reported-to-not-work-outside-of-europe/
My note 3 has just shown up, big sim restriction sticker included. Do you guys think its worth keeping the phone and waiting for a software fix to the restriction or should i send it back? I'm just annoyed about that i'm in the U.S. next week and i wont be able to use the £40 sim card i've ordered because its american. I'll also be in the U.S. again next year so while it may only be a small issue, its still an issue. Worst case scenario is that i get the girlfriend to take her iphone and put the sim card in that so i can tether.

Id say return it to show them we are not abide by their rules and restrictions that's totally a ripoff.

I'm one of them.
The E.U. wants to eliminate the roaming cost for.all countries across. Maybe has to do with that. Nobody with Note 3 here with a foreign sim card ( non Eu) can try to see what's happening?

Sprint nexus 5

I was curious if anyone knows if Sprints Nexus is sim locked or not? I know it's the exact same phone as the Play Store edition but I just can't find out if it's sim locked or not. Thanks.

Are you paying full price?
If you are subsidize by Sprint, then maybe it's lock. But if you pay full price, then you are overpaying but it should be unlock.

I asked my local sprint store while getting my sim card for the googleplay store one I just received. Guys said they have NEVER sold an unlocked phone that you could take to another carrier and he did not see why they would start now.
so... who really knows. You know how those in store sales people are, just simply not informed most of the time.

How much did they charge you for a Sim? They told me $75.. Which is insane, I used my S4 Sim card. But now I still need one for the S4 so I can sell it.

Wow. what a joke. They gave it to me free of charge, same as if you use the chat-with-sprint method of getting a SIM
Also want to know if I can pop a T-Mobile SIM into a "Sprint" Nexus 5
It shouldn't be locked. I got mine from Google play though. The Sim should be free from what I know. I got mines from the best buy store because nobody at sprint store had any clue a couple of days ago

HUH? Sprint wanted to charge you for the SIM??? Was it a corporate sprint store? or just a kiosk or an affiliate type of store?
Assuming you are a Sprint customer, Corporate Sprint store should not charge you for the SIM, and if they do, you can call customer care and ask them to sort it out.
I got mine shipped from Sprint Worldwide support - but it was too slow - took 5 days, and I was getting impatient, so I went to a Sprint Corporate store nearby and asked them for one - they gave me one free of charge (they kept telling me - "we don't have one for the Nexus yet" - and I reminded them that the ones for the S4 or the HTC One would work just fine)

So what carrier are you using that proves that the "Sprint" version is unlocked? I want to use it with T-Mobile.
I just got the sprint version from Best Buy. I am on T-Mobile and can verify that it is 100% unlocked. Popped my sim in and good to go. Also, the phone came with a sprint sim card. If anyone is being charged for one, I WILL SEND IT TO YOU FOR FREE!

So what/who gave you the hint that sprint subsidized ver was unlock? I guess you just went in and ask the rep there to give you a sprint subsidized N5 or did you buy an unsubsidized sprint N5? If you bought an unsubsidized sprint N5 then it should be unlocked anyway.

Their chat support will give you your MSL. Just ask for the 'Activation code.' If they try to avoid and just tell you to run *#*#72786#*#*, be firm but polite about getting the code.

If phones are locked and you pay the full amount, you still need to get the unlock code. I popped my sim in right out of the box. The Sprint version is the exact same phone. Same model number, same build number, same kernel version, got the same 125mb update right at the power on. There is not one bit of Sprint branding or bloatware. I know my phones...this is my 8th smartphone and my 4th Nexus (S, Gnex, N4, N5) and I can assure you that it is the exact same.

'Activation code' is their term for MSL. Some techs aren't familiar with 'MSL'. Or simply ask if you can get your Activation code/MSL.

T-Mobile will work just find if you swap the SIM. You may or may not have to go and put in the correct APN settings with the TMo SIM in, though mine works just fine. I've also tested with AIO Wireless.
You may also have to go in to *#*#INFO#*#* and set the radio to 'LTE/GSM auto (PRL)' mode. When going back to Sprint only you'll want to use 'LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)' mode.

Are all Nexus 5's unlocked?

Might be a lame question, but want to make sure I don't get burned before I buy this. Found a craigslist post for an almost brand new Nexus 5, apparently from Tmobile. Here is the title "GOOGLE NEXUS 5 BY LG T-MOBILE 16GB"
Will I be able to use this Straight Talk? Could this somehow be locked to Tmobile under contract? That is my only concern.
Thanks for any help
Yes. Although you'll need to buy the right one for your country (D820 for North America, D821 for everywhere else)
So far, no Nexus 5's have come locked so it looks like they're all unlocked.
Some older Nexus' did turn up locked though, but so far no one has seen a locked N5 so the assumption that all N5's are unlocked is a safe one.
So I picked up a N5, 16GB black with box, no charger which is no big deal for $260. I get back to work and the phone isn't wiped, lots of d**k pics. I can't believe some people.

Do you have any info of the person you bought if from. I always try to get a license plate of their vehicle just in case.

You are screwed if the guy you bought it from isn't the original owner, that could be the reason why it wasn't wiped.
From what I hear the only way to get it delisted is to have the original owner, the one that reported it stolen call in. If he is the guy that you bought it from have the police make him call T-Mobile or give you a refund.
THis is going off topic, but speaking of unlock phones.
What frequency is the Northamerican one missing that makes it can't work over seas?
Google play store shows that is has almost every frequency band needed.

Most information on Bands for the D820 is taken from google's info, which I'm sure you won't believe but is actually not accurate. The maximum LTE bands the WTR1605L included in the MSM8794 of the snapdragon 800 is 7, which is actually the most any chip today can do - BUT teh google site and many other sites list 9 bands - which isn't quite right.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131705
The D821 does:
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20
The D820 is reported to do:
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
However, looking at the box of the N5, you'll only see 7 listed:
